My Verizon Nexus has been acting up for the last day or so. I was running the CM10 preview from the dev's G+ page with Trinity kernel. I've been on custom roms (ICS and JB) since I got the phone and have had no troubles up until now.
No matter what ROM and kernel Im on it freezes up and reboots. Its done this on stock, CM9, CM10 by fitsnugly, CM10 preview, and Paranoid Android. While messing with all of these I was unable to get some of them to flash completely. (CWM touch 5.something) It would get halfway through installing and then start bootlooping. My MD5s have been good the whole way. Ive relocked, unlocked, went back to stock. Tried TWRP tried the CWM 6 build. Nothing I can do will stabilize this phone.
Could the RAM or CPU be bad? Am I screwed? Been working on this since 7 am (its 230P now) and cant get any progress made.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to go back to an iPhone.
Note - I am not new to android, been rooting and romming phones since Android 1.5. Just had an iphone for a month or so a couple times.

Hi community. I'm new to thus phone. I've been around for a while but never created a profile here. I unlocked the boot loader and rooted it. First from installed is aopk with Franco kernel. Seems to be running okay but I am getting random force closes here and there from different apps. Not sure if this is ice issue or rom. Its intermittent so not an annoyance yet. Got some freezes when typing horizontally on the keyboard and xda app fc as well as other apps. I am running yakju. Would I benefit from just going back to stock and just keeping unlocked boot loader and rooted? Is there more stability with 4.04 vs 4.2 ? Being as this is my first Google phone I'd like to always get updates from Google without too much hassle. Please input and I'm always willing to take criticism.
When you get freezes and closes from apps randomly, I always tend to blame the rom. It could be the kernel too.
If you're wanting official updates then I would go with the stock rom. I flashed a custom rom and tested a few of them out and they were pants so I just roll with a rooted stock rom.
Just flashed the new Franco kernel and it sped things up. Haven had any freezes yet. Just running the kernel out of the box without any tweaks. Seems snap pier too, specially in app drawer.
I can't boot cm10 (unofficial) or Evervolv's JB preview ROMs. They both sit at boot screen. Also, Sometime mid July cm9 (unofficial) changed something that breaks my data somehow. Stock browser begins to load but stops and closes. Same with FB app. Any nightly (cm9) I use prior works fine and last Evervolv ICS release works great as well.
Is my Evo outdated? I've heard of some Evo's not handling some ROMs for whatever reason but I haven't heard of anybody having my problems with these new ROMs. I use Smelkus ver RA recovery and I have my SD partitioned, though I rarely use sd-ext. I'm always through on wiping and my hardware is 003 if that helps.
I have a pretty old EVO as well, and haven't had any issues getting any jb up and running. Have you tried redownloading? The most recent one I tried was here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805348 and I liked it, just no camera so I had to go back to an ICS.
If you do a full wipe there shouldn't be any reason why ur not able to run those roms.
Thanks for the input. I flashed the ROM above (With evervolv jb gapps) and decided to wipe everything individually. I'm running JB now! Only thing I did differently was not use combo wipes and try this ROM. I wonder if that's it. Will try other ROMs now.
Just for an update I downloaded new Evervolv JB preview 5 and it booted so not sure what's going on. Unofficial CM10 still won't boot so maybe it is a download issue but I've tried multiple ways (3g and landline). Team Dirt CM10 booted though. I'm scratching my head.....
So basically I am just here to answer your question concerning if your HTC EVO is too old? Why, yes, yes it is, actually, any phone that comes out is usually obsolete within one to two months after debute.
I have booted cm10 to my evo with no problem. I have encountered a few issues with cm10 but that was expected. Can't wait for the camera to work. Only major setback.

So I've decided to start playing around with custom ROMs. I'm still pretty new to Android so maybe this is going to be stupidly simple.
Earlier today I flashed PACman Rom. Downloaded directly from the thread. I wasn't super happy with how slow it ran and a friend suggested it might be a nightly. I noticed in settings it said the release was from 09/09 so I thought he might be right. I decided to wipe it and install the most recent stable version of PAC man.
Seemed to flash just fine, but the startup was a bit odd. It didn't go through the standard stuff like syncing your google account, setting up wifi, etc. Jumped right to the home screen. At first that didn't seem like an issue. I can do that all manually. But then it flashed on screen saying AOSP keyboard couldn't launch. Obviously without being able to type at all or even open the keyboard, I can't do a whole lot to get it set up.
Tried a couple times to flash that ROM and same thing every time. Restored from my nandroid and everything worked perfectly. Decided to try CyanogenMod and got 10.2 stable release with gapps. Wiped and flashed. Same thing. Straight to the home screen, no keyboard. Every other gapp is there.
Any ideas on what I can do differently? Or what I might be doing wrong, or some way I can get this to work?
Did you flash gapps with pacman ROM?

Yes I did. And I actually just figured out what it was. I was using 4.3 gapps with 4.2.2 ROMS
Is there anybody out there that can help?
I've had a SGN for over two years and it seems like I have always had problems with it. I've been through mulitple SIMS, devices, ROMS, and various apps. Most recently, I had to get a new device. It took several steps of troubleshooting, but I finally rooted the phone. Got Rootchecker Pro and was able to confirm with no errors. For a while now, when I wipe, CWM skips over Android_Secure because it can't be found. About a month, after rooting the phone, I flashed the CRDroid (based on Cyanogenmod) ROM. It was then that I would get bootloops after checking on the Mobile Networks setting. It didn't always do it right away. When it didn't restart immediately, I wouldn't be able to make phone calls. Shortly after, I went through the Developer Options and updated to CM 10.2. The Mobile Network Bootloops stopped and I thought everything was great. But, there has been about three times that the phone will randomly restart and go into a bootloop at the CM splash screen. It's happened a couple times randomly and yesterday after taking about 45 pictures over a 45-minute span.
Luckily, I've been much better about making Nandroid backups and it hasn't been a big deal to restore. You can imagine, though that it is incredibly annoying and critical sometimes. I've been trying to rack my brain about what is consistent about the bootloops and can't figure it out.
It's a Toro with CM 10.2 on 4.3 Android. I flashed Golden Kernel and PA 4.0 GAPPS.
I would love to see what everybody thinks the problem could be. Thanks again.
i had my n7100 rooted and running linaro kitkat... i tried to return to stock, and after i tried 1000 times, finally i did it, i reverted to stock samsung. I noticed after that that the note wasnt smooth anymore, it freezes from time to time, and it was becoming annoying. so i re rooted again. installed linaro again with big hopes, but it has the same problem yet again. i dont know what to do anymore.
try wipe
