It's a fine phone. Coming from a 4.3" device it will take some time getting used to the screen size though. But once you do it's pretty great.
Rooting is rather noob-friendly, I think, although there aren't too many custom roms yet. That will change in the near future.

Yea I've already got a build environment set up on a Linux so shouldn't be to hard to build

I am a total noob and I have the one v I was able to root with out bricking so I would be willing to bet you will not have any probs

I'm a noob to, just joined today. I currently have a Bold9900 which is from Rogers, I unlocked it and took it to virgin for a cheaper plan. Although getting tired of blackberry itself cause this phone freezes 3 times a day, I have to pop the battery every time. I was thinking of switching over to the HTC One V
It seems like a decent phone.. I'm not the type of person to have the "latest and greatest" And i certainly don't fancy those 4+ inch mini-tablet super-phones like the Nexus 4 or the Galaxy S3... Even the One X is slightly to big for my liking... I also prefer expandable memory, which the One S doesn't have but the One V does.
This One V would be my FIRST Android phone ever. All I've ever had was Blackberry and an old Motorola. So I think it would be a good Android entry level phone.

Or choice is good although one backside is its a single core phone

So Long iPhone 4S

Today I learned the true powers of the Android OS. It's So advanced. I left the 4S for this phone and I never been more happy.
I'm using the Asia One X in the usa on AT&T. The hardware on this phone is amazing. I'm so happy I made the switch.
When I first used it I noticed that the data was a tad bit slow. So I decided to to some research (Google and i go waaay back lol) and i found it could be do to APN settings. But the access point names where good. For all americans using this phone you gotta go online and change your data from Data for iPhone to data for smartphone. you can also call them. I did this now data just as fast as it was on my 4S and I'm getting more signal bars now. went from 3 to full.( if this helped you hit my thanks button) I'm trying to learn everything I can about android everything. any tips on what I can do or who I can talk to would be great. Thanks to all.

You got my thanks for the switch from 4s to Android. Have fun with Android!

Your Favourite Phone

OK so we all know the GS3 is, to date, the best phone. But after all the phones we've gone through, there's that one "special" phone. That special phone could be special for any reason...which one would it be for you.
I'll start it off..
Mine was the Nexus One...IMO, the greatest Nexus of all time.
Because at the time, not many people had it, since you had to really want it to get it. It was solidly built by HTC, had the most RAM, and was just the easiest to tinker.
Not to mention people used to see it and say, "is that the Nexus One? Can I see it" ....and they'd hold it like it was baby Jesus.
And how about your worst smartphone ever, or at least the most disappointing "smartphone"?
Mine would have to be the Xperia X10, out of the box. I feel sorry for my wife when I tried to sway her away from her 3Gs to Android via Xperia X10. Let's just say she's not fond of Android up to now.

I would have to say my favorite would be the phone that started the smartphone craze for me. That would be the AT&T Tilt 8925. It's what got me started here at XDA and began my flashing craze. I'd hate to have to go back to it now though.
I will be way back to Nokia N75. I love this phone old good flip phone. But of smartphones must be samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket.
My favorite was the Desire Z.....too bad my boy knocked it out of my hands and down the stairs, of course that's why I ended up with my S3 . Maybe I should fire up eBay and find a screen.....

Nokia N900.
Maemo linux, desktop-like multitasking, root from the box, Carl Zeiss optics/dedicated camera button/lens cover slider - best cameraphone I've ever had.
I was hoping that Nokia will get things right with N9, create and promote vast app ecosystem, instead they turned to the dark side(
My next hope was WebOS, failed too and here I am, happy android user.
My fav phone was also my first Android device. The HTC Hero (gsm version).
Oh boy that thing was fun. Didn't root or flash anything for about 4 months but was soooo happy when I took the plunge.
Built solid and was nearly impossible to screw up its was a great learning tool.
Upgrading to an S3 has been simply amazing. I look at my old Hero and can't believe how I got by with that small screen lol.

Project Roadrunner? 4.2

Has anybody heard of this? I did a quick lazy glance here and didn't see it posted so I thought I would. Looks pretty amazing with new features and improving Gnow and improved battery life for Android users. Of course the main concern is in order for us to experience we might have to switch phones or of course wait on our devs to do their amazing work. Thoughts??

Your point? We all have to move on at some point. By the time this phone gets 4.2 we'll have some really amazing devices on the market that will make this phone seem like it was from the stone age. Just like this phone makes that HD2 seem like its from the stone age. Idk how people are still using that thing. I think my next one will be a nexus.. There should be some nice ones coming out soon..
I was thinking.. I'm sure that the galaxy Nexus is a shoe in to get 4.2 and if it can handle the software I am sure that this phone can too!.. It's unlike that tmobile will put in the resources to update this phone after JB but it might be a slim possibility.. Especially since we will have the option whether or not to have OEM skins

Officially I don't think this phone is getting past ICS. I have high doubts about an official TW JB update for it. Only the international GSII has been officially confirmed. As we all know that phone and every other GSII has the exynos SoC so I wouldn't doubt the others can get it easily. But since we have the s3.. idk.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
And I just wanna state that it's obvious that Google is listening to what people want and trying to add it to software updates! We have all been talking about how nice it would be if we had a choice of AOSP or OEM.. And voila! Google goes ahead and appears to be implementing it!.. This is totally opposite of other mobile operating systems (not naming names) that always hold back the features... This is why I will probably stay loyal to android for a long time!

Well, it's goodbye!!!

With a heavy heart I am here to confess I am leaving the world of Vivow... :crying: The waiting game for updates and empty promises from HTC and Verizon both, I have made this decision to sell my Incredible 2 and never look back. With that said, I am also saying farewell to HTC completely. Not enough backing of their current lineup in my opinion. I shouldn't have to upgrade to the latest phone just to get the new build of Sense or latest build of Android. I should also not have to depend on community developers to get what I want. Oh well, it's time to cut the strings.
Dev's.. from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you all for giving us your personal time and effort into developing fun, useful, and up-to-date roms that just make us flash-aholics happy!! You will never be forgotten!!

Ah.. those issues if I remember were ROM related.. The phone has always been 100% using stock or CM7/9 ... but it's very picky about what other roms I use.. very strange device I have.. but un-rooted and stock it will be good as new.. cosmetically just a few blemishes and only one 1/4" scratch on the screen... not bad for having it and using it almost non-stop for almost 2 years now.. I have it on eBay but I'm thinking of pulling it.. almost 40 views already and 3 watchers.. unless that grows I'll probably yank it.. maybe.. I don't know..
Any thoughts on what you are hoping to get out of it?

Honestly, I think the best way to go would be an unlocked gsm nexus device because Verizon screws even nexus owners with updates. The gsm version already has official 4.2.1 yet us toro (vzw) owners only have official 4.1.1 and have to rely on custom roms for 4.2.1

IMO, I think HTC devices are better. Every Nokia I have had has been junk. Not sure/don't understand why everyone likes Nokia so much.
My one v is awesome, runs great. Only issue is grip of death signal issues. Are you going for CDMA or gsm?
Also I'm not sure what the Nokia you are looking at is. If its android, check out their development scene. If its slim pickings, you may be stuck on ICS or jb for a long time to come. A few devs for a device go a long way.

I'm either going with Virgin mobile $35/month if I get this or T-mobile $30/month if I get the 620. So a CDMA 1V as It's cheaper for the CDMA model. Does skype on android support rear camera video?
Not sure about Skype, it should work though. I am on the VM 35 a month plan and its great. Signal strength is just as good as my friends with sprint phones.
I do recommend groove IP for internet calling. Its a good alternative to using up cell minutes.

I really like the One V, I really like the build quality and how it grips with one hand. Its not the fastest phone in the market but for the price its well worth it. I use mine more like an mp3 player as I don't pay for service. My only grip is no FFC. To take self portraits look to the nearest mirror and point the camera lens towards you also works for video chat that allow you to use back camera for video chat.
