Keep root? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I just rooted my GS3 and I want to get the latest update for my phone so I can have the brightness slider. How can I apply the update without losing root? Also I dont want to wipe my phone or install custom ROMS cause I just set up everything and got all my apps and I dont want to do that again.

I downloaded it, but can I just update the device now? Do I have to do anything special?

Just follow the onscreen instructions from the app, worked perfectly on my device.

Q: When to Root?

I just bought my SGS3 yesterday and still going under battery calibration, first cycle. Question is should I wait to complete the battery calibration before rooting or go ahead and root?
I'm coming from a Vibrant, so I know about rooting, just don't know if its a better idea to get the calibration done right first before rooting.
I would just go ahead and root it. I rooted mine on like the 2nd or 3rd day

I just rooted my phone anyways! Ah, I guess I have been misinformed and been trapped in my old ways, Vibrant ways. lol. Had another question, will removing any of the T-Mobile crapware mess with the full functionality of the stock rom? I remember for the vibrant, removing certain apps caused the phone to force close repeatedly and crashed the phone.
Flash a debloated rom and you should be fine.

I wanted to keep it stock rom because those debloated roms look like they are the previous OS versions? I bought my phone with the OTA update that everyone seems to be talking about now and how some kernels don't work well with the new OS update

Edit:

Like, I set up the phone, go for a week, then decide I want root.

You don't need to wipe anything before rooting. You just need to make sure you back up your stuff in case the worst of the worst happens.

What if you're doing it through Odin?
** EDIT ** Meaning, flashing a stock rom with root injected in Odin.

No clue. But if you haven't touched anything in the /system partition (I.e. removing the bloatware, installing 3rd party drivers from apps like viper4android, using xposed, etc etc) then the install should go just fine.

Have you tried it and it worked? I tried it once before after I restored my phone from a soft brick caused by the update, then I ran freegee and it would show the screen where it says the bootloader was unlocked with the LG logo then jump to another screen with just the LG logo and just kept looping in that boot forcing me to do another restore. I don't know if something went wrong and that's why I didn't work

i think there a easier way
just use titanium backup to convert superuser to system app
Here is your root in english, no need to watch video.
Supersu has been uploaded too.
After root install superSU and do as promted, it will remove the installed root app.
Now go to apps and uninstall the chinese app that vroot installed.
For OCD clearance do a wipe ?

Well the problem with vroot is that it supposedly Logs and uploads IMEI Numbers to servers in china(possibly). The idea around that is well they could use those IMEI numbers to take a stolen phone or Chinese phone and give it the uploaded US IMEI and then create a activation outside of the US.
