The battery indicator on my brand new S3 SGH-I747 seems to be displaying the wrong amount of battery life remaining. Each time it hits around 40% the phone dies (no low bat warning) screen just flickers and shuts off. When you plug it in and turn it back on the battery life is at 0%.
After charging and using the phone for a bit I've noticed that if the battery indicator shows say 90% and you pull the battery and put it back in right away, it will drop by like 20%, presumably displaying the actual battery life left.
I've already replaced the battery with a brand new one, after that didn't help I tried flashing it with a few different ROMs none of which seem to solve this issue. Has anyone else had this problem or have any idea what might be causing it?
Appreciate any advice I can get on this, thanks!
Ps. I've cracked the screen a little so the warranty is void and I can't just get a replacement but I was having the issue before the screen cracked.

Try downloading BatteryCalibration from the Google Play Store and following the instructions to reset the calibration.

You could also try wiping the battery stats in recovery, thus resetting the battery readings.
I'm assuming one of their responses helped out? I ask because I am having the exact same same issue.

My battery indicator (in status bar) likes to increase each time I restart my device. Does anyone else have this issue?
I am charging and the indication shows as charging plus the percentage is increasing like normal. However, when I restart the device it shows more than charge percent. For instance, show 56 % but after restart device shows 82 or more than 92. Thank a lot in advance for taking your time to reply
I've tried searching to see if it's a common problem, but I haven't been able to find others with the same issue with Artemis
My Rom: Touch_4.02_Vanilla
I've the same issue, and I guess its normal.
hmmmm...well..for past one year...i have my 100% battery accuracy.
Have you noticed when charging its getting charge slowly and draining is also extremely fast after restart because its showing more than whats charged.. Maybe i guess its my battery got screwed up

its a common battery problem with the artemis/p3300
leave device off while your charging though
Thanks dude for the reply.....relieved to know that its not my device nor rom....else I would be spending time trying to flash roms and roms.....till i buy another battery Ill stick to ur tip ' Device Off While Charging"
Just got my new anker batt and started first charging loop (0%-100%)
When the battery was on 1% the screen started to fliker (no idea how to call it otherwise) the back light just went crazy before the note went off.
Anyone know this phenomenon? Bad for phone? Or no problem?

I had the same problem with the gold battery at 1% just before shuting down.
Don't fret, it does that with the standard battery too. It's just the AMOLED screen struggling to remain uniformly illuminated.
I'm not sure if it's damaging for the screen, but it's not a result of the battery you're using, just the fact that it's near dead-empty.
Happens to me all the time with my Anker battery. Never with the original battery, however. When turned back on after swapping batteries, there are no bad pixels and such as a result according to an app I use for bad pixel detection. I perform this assessment evrytime I boot up my phone just to make sure.
my screen flickers 1 second before my battery dies (standard official samsung battery)
Same thing happens with Galaxy Nexus. Istead of just normally turning itself off, the scrren starts flashing and distortions appears and then it just dies on me. Weird.
Same issue on stock battery.. reaching 1percent flicker then it dies out. No worries its normal!
no worry i think
I doubt there is any damage done... I've had it with the gold battery, not sure about the std one because I've never went back.
It's just pulling the last bit of juice before depleted.
Sama here with original battery and anker battery
I think its normal in amoled screen

Like already said that can happen with every battery that's almost empty. Don't worry, just charge the battery.

My original battery more than 14 months old was showing this.
Got a new battery off amazon and all back to normal.
I went back to store, they said its not normal, got a replacement.
Proper behaviour is phone shuts itself off if below a unsafe level instead of this flickering.
Best assert your warrantee

True. Mine cuts out at 5%
From box 13......
I get the same thing from my stock battery at 1%.
If i'm playing a game when it does it though and i kill the game, it reads 3% so takes a little longer to finally shut down.
I had this problem a couple of times with my old battery...bought a new one and the flickering was gone!
The screen flickering means battery is end of life. Same thing happened with me with official battery and I replaced it today with another new official battery and its gone. Also I have noticed that my old battery became fat compare to normal one.

Hey guys,
Assuming you have read the title there is something weird about my phone.
It shuts down at 40-50% battery (before it shutsdown it says empty battery briefly and then the htc flash screen appears and shutsdown).
The weird thing is the following:
It shuts down at let's say 40% battery, but when it re boots the battery is litterly empty (even when i boot in recovery it says --%, and when i plug the charger it starts at 0% again).
I have tried:
Battery Calibrator
Empty full fill up with wall charger and also tried usb charger.
Screaming @ phone
wiping battery data in recovery (4ext recovery)
The thing i am most confused about is that it goes out at 40% and when i turn it on again it's 0%. This never happened as it happened for the first time 2 weeks ago, confused. I tried different roms and it still happens (even ICS roms).
I wouldn't really mind if my phone would shut down at say 20% when it says actually it's @ 20. But as i said before: It says it's 40 (batterij indicator htc sense half full) and then shutsdown realizing after reboot it's completely empty.
Any help is much appreciated!
Mendel
Shutting down on let's say 15-20% is quite normal, but I never heard of one shutting down at 40%
Are you using the stock battery, that came with your device?

Any chance to try another battery? Seems really strange cause in most cases if you wipe battery stats you get your phone shutdown at 20%, not 50%.
Its most likely a bad battery that needs to be replaced specially if tue same thing happens when using a different rom.

Yeah i know it seems so weird that's why i started this thread.
Before i buy a new battery:
What could be the cause that the phone goes out at 40% (or 30) and when it reboots it's empty.
Seems like the phone or the battery aren't in "sync" until it reboots to show it's empty.
Any tips or suggestions?
Thanks!

I'd like to think of it similar to laptop batteries that have gone bad... you plug your laptop to it's power supply, it says fully charged but as soon as you pull it out from it's power supply it drops to 50% in minutes and then goes off. The battery cannot hold the charge anymore.
It can only mean that the battery's life is at an end. The only thing you can do is to change it. I suggest that you stick to original HTC battery as the "ChinaMade" ones will die a lot faster and you'll have to change it sooner than this one.
Regards.

Hey guys!
I know this thread is started since several months but I actually have the same problem : I have a HTC Desire and its shuts down at about 50% and when I reboot it, it says the battery is empty.
I tried several times to recalibrate the battery (and to do all the things MendelMusic said in his post actually) but nothing changed.
MendelMusic, did you finally manage to solve your problem?
Anybody have a solution or any ideas?
Thanks!

Battery drain?
It's called battery drain. I have it too, but only at 10/20%?
If someone knows a fix, please send it to me
AW: Htc Desire Shuts down at 40-50% battery
Probably your batteries are just weak now. I'd recommend you all to invest 5 bucks in a new battery. Actually that helped at my old desire. Greetings
Thanks for your answers!
I tried the link of madreef and it didn't change. I will try again, maybe I did it wrong (hope it will work this time...)
@dschibril : I don't think my battery is weak because the problem occured as soon as I changed the ROM (CM10). The battery was perfectly ok before that.

Hello, I have the same problem with you. Did you manage to fix it and how? Have you tried a brand new battery so far?
It has to do with the Desire's poor battery age management system. Li-Ion batteries age, meaning that, as time passes, they're gonna be able to hold less and less milliamps. After almost two years, my Desire's battery can only hold 82% of the original ~1400 mA charge.
The only way around this is to use the Nexus One Battery Calibrator (Nexus One and our Desire share the same hardware underneath the hood). You'll need a compatible kernel and some patience. Instructions in this post.
My 2 cents: if your battery is only able to hold less than say 75%-80% of its original charge, then you should replace it. Li-Ion batteries age in such a way that they suddenly go dead, so it's not worth taking the risk.
Later Edit - If your Desire shuts down at say 40% - 50%, that means that your battery is 40% or 50% gone, so it's time for a replacement. I'd still try the battery calibration method i wrote about in the above post, just to determine if it's a freak software error or the battery's fault.
P.S. - Wiping battery stats does nothing to solve most issues (for the Desire, at least).
My phone turns off sometimes at 50%, sometimes at 80% of battery.
I have new battery now (original one) and it is the same. Phone turns off, only when it is connected to charger it does not.
Hiii
My hTC Desire 728 shut down when then battery showing 50% to 60% in charge. What is the remedies?
I just purchased a used Galaxy S3 and have had it for a couple of days already. This is what my normal charging routine is with any phone I have owned:
I shut the phone off before I go to sleep at night (usually around 11:00 pm) and plug it in. I'll get up at 6:00 am, unplug it and turn it back on. I've noticed though that with my new phone for the past 2 mornings, the red LED light is still on when I unplug it and when I turn the phone on, I immediately check the battery status and it has only charged as high as 92%. I am using the original wall plug (5V-1A) but the usb cable is not original. I also tried using 2 different ones with the same results. I'm just wondering what the problem could be and if anyone else has had this issue and what they have done to correct it? Thanks...
Try to reset the battery in CMW
Sorry, I should have also mentioned that the phone is bone stock for now...
Soooo, last night I tried a third micro usb cable and I drained the battery all the way down to the point where the phone shut itself off. I then plugged it in for the night and the charging light was finally green this morning. However when I turned the phone on, the percentage still only showed that it was at 92%. I'm not sure what else to try and who knows, could the battery be borked?
How long does the battery last? Just because the battery meter says 92% doesn't mean its not full, it could just be calibrated incorrectly. Put another way, as far as the OS know 92% is as far as the battery charges even thought the battery is at maximum capacity. Unfortunately im not sure if there is way to reset the battery meter without root access.
Yesterday the battery lasted a little over 16 hrs. That's with mobile data shut off, gps off, bluetooth off and pretty much everything else. I sent a hand full of texts, around 3 hours of wifi usage and about an hour of music. I can't really think of anything else I used it for...
If you are getting 16 hours on a stock battery there isn't anything wrong with it :good:. If the calibration of the battery meter bugs you enough you can always root it and reset the battery stats, either from CWM recovery or with a capable app. I have SD Maid which can do this with root access, but im not sure if the feature is available in the free version. Im sure there are other apps on the market that can do this as well, possibly free ones, but im almost certain they will require root to do so. If you do, charger the battery overnight to ensure a full charge, if possible use a usb power source instead of the wall adapter. This is a slower charge and actually can achieve a fuller battery charge. As soon as you remove the phone from the charger reset the stats and let it run down to nearly dead, i would probably do this twice to give the battery meter a good high/low limit.
Thanks! I will try this once I've exhausted all other possibilities that may be causing this. It does bother me a bit I'm not sure why. Maybe my OCD kicking in lol! I've just pulled the back cover off and the battery in it is 3.8V and 7.98Wh. The model number of it I believe is GB/T18287-2000 and below that it also shows 4.35V. Can anyone confirm if this is even the correct battery in it for this phone? Thanks...
That is the correct voltage and wattage....so yes it is the correct battery.
Thank you...
So another morning went by with the same issue and i figured i had to try something else. I went into The Source after work and went ahead and purchased the extra battery kit they sell (comes with the battery and a battery charger/stand) making sure that i could return it if it turned out that it didnt solve my problem. So i took my old battery out of the phone and when i turned it over i noticed a dent and a crease running down one side of it (probably the culprit). I put the new battery in, plugged the phone in and a little while later i got a green light and a 100% battery status! I was worried that there was something actually wrong with the phone but a $50 gamble later and im good to go. Oh i also tried charging the old battery in the charger but it would not finish the charging cycle (wouldnt go green after 3 hrs in it and the battery according to my phone was at 80% when i took it out).

Yikes! Lucky you noticed this before it turned into a big problem. With visible physical damage to that extent i would say the chances of that battery causing some serious damage is high, especially if it had went unnoticed and was used for extended periods of time. I would contact Samsung as they should replace the battery under warranty if the battery was in that condition coming out of the box.
See thats the thing. I bought the phone used and the issue was there since day one of owning it. Since these phones havent been out for a year yet, there should still be some kind of warranty on it and i guess it wouldnt hurt to try contacting samsung about it. Who knows, i could get a spare battery out of the whole thing.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
My only problem with that is who knows how it got that way, if it didnt ship from the factory in that condition Samsung shouldn't be held responsible.
True but how in the world could someone do that on purpose? The condition of the phone itself is about a 9/10. Unless they took it out for who knows what reason and dropped it and whatever else. I'll never know. Maybe i will just leave it alone. Everything is back to the way it should be...

I have a HTC One M8 that I bought during June 2014. Right now my battery life is awful.
Recently, my phone always powers off even when it haven't reach 0%. I did try a lot of battery calibration method but didn't help much.
Only recently, when the phone dies suddenly, if I tried to power it back on the screen flickers , the whole display, regardless whether it is plugged in or not. This has happened twice. But once the battery is fully charged the flicker is gone and draining the battery won't cause it to flicker. It seems like its the LCD panel flickering but not the backlight. The LCD does looks normal tho.
Not only so, when the phone is about under 25% battery left, the camera start to have artifact. It becomes worst as the battery level decrease.(imgur:DwF1KcY)(had to do this as this is my first account) If the battery level is low enough (can't specify cuz it varies), taking a picture will cause the phone to power down. All of these issue without using flash.
My typical usage will yield me about 2:30 to 3 hours of SOT. Mostly youtube and google chrome. Using stock sense or marshmallow GPE rom does not make much of a difference.
So what can I do? My guess is replace the battery but it seems like NO ONE in the internet has encountered these problems.

That sounds like a defective battery. If the phone is still under warranty, get it in for a repair.
