Screen orientation bug on all customs ROMs? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

This morning I was with surfing and decided to try out the Navigation Menu hide feature. It worked great and I was able to surf with true fullscreen!
However, after I was done surfing, I decided to play my Smurfs and Lil Kingdom. The problem happened when the Smurfs game opened up in Portrait mode (when normally it's Landscape). The same problem happened with Lil Kingdom. It opened in Landscape mode, when normally it's Portrait.
I think somehow, hiding the Navigation menu while in Landscape mode must have messed up the orientation?

So....what rom are you using?

Reboot your phone.
Any app that doesn't expect your screen to suddenly increase in size (uh...pretty much anything) will open in weird ways when you decide to remove your nav bar randomly.

I have full screen and no bugs.
And I'm using an app to enable full screen.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^

half blank home screen???

okay so I've had this problem a few times on 2 different G2s
not sure what happens but the phone seems to trick it's self into thinking its still in landscape mode even though its in portrait and I end up with a black screen though I can see the notification bar and can even drag it down and see it so I know the screen isn't turning off and if I open the keyboard i can only see the very right side of the screen or what would be the bottom if it were in portrait mode yet the notification bar seems to work. It usually happens when I close the keyboard. It's not a huge problem as I can just hold the power button down to bring up the "power down, airplane mode, silent mode" screen up and that fixes it. I managed to get it to happen and was able to grab some screen shots. Anybody else have this problem?
I used to see that same issue on my G1 with ADW Launcher installed
ya it happens to me using the adw launcher... i think it is just a rendering issue. also if you use adw launcher you notice the pull down shade doesn't cover the very top when pulled down? just launcher glitches still runs like a champ now that i use temp root. beautiful thing about temp root is that unlike the g1 you don't have to reboot this thing every 8 hrs lol.... i do it just cause i feel like i'm still using my g1.. autostart kills all those damn google apps that run. setcpu is running great. no oc obviously but now you can throttle it... wireless tether plus they have it on a 3 click apk that you can use. SDk/adb knowledge needed though for it...

Netflix issue

This may be a known issue, but I've found nothing through searching the forum or Google.
Running GedeROM, and everything works perfectly. Netflix plays well, but won't go full screen. When it first starts, the soft buttons are visible, as always. A few seconds in, the buttons hide, but netflix does not resize to fill the screen, so I have a half inch border around whatever is playing.
This is not a big deal but, with a seven inch screen, I'd like to be able to use as much of the screen as possible.
Is anyone else having this problem, and is there a known fix or different ROM recommendation?
Thanks in advance!
If your having the problem of netflix only being in portrait mode try toggling the screen rotation back and forth this should allow it to rotate to landscape mode sometimes it gets a little sticky also make sure you have 180 degree rotation enabled.
Thanks, but that's not the problem. Switching from protrait to landscape IS sticky, but does work
Netflix firsts starts filling MOST of the screen, except for the bottom half inch with the Back, Home and Multitask switcher buttons visible. After 3 seconds, these buttons shrink off the screen but the picture doesn't expand to fill the space vacated by the disappearance of the soft buttons.
Works fine on the phone and other devices...
Oh, I should mention that my other devices are running variants of Gingerbread, and in one case Froyo. This may be a function of ICS.
Being that gedeRom has true fullscreen maybe there is a feature that you don't have enabled auto hide or something of that nature maybe someone would know better than I cause I don't run gede have but not presently
Have you tried holding the power button a few seconds and then choosing to hide the status bar?
Do you have auto hide enabled under system in the settings menu?

Thanks, Desanko. Turns out I'm an idiot. Problem solved!

[Q] Clear notifications button disappeared in LiquidSmooth

Out of nowhere today, the clear notifications button disappeared when I hold my phone in portrait mode. If I rotate into landscape mode, it appears on the far right, but when I flip back, it's not there. I briefly got it to return by switching Lefty Mode on and off, but after I use it once, it disappears again. Any idea why this is happening or how I can fix it?
I'm using LiquidSmooth RC9.
Turns out I don't even have to use the button for it to disappear. If I just rotate my phone to landscape and then back to portrait, it's gone.
I don't have that issue. that being said its only present what I have notifications to clear, not permanent ones
I was able to post about this in the development thread. Turns out it's an issue with having AM/PM turned on for the clock. It pushes the notifications button off the screen sometimes.
hmm good to know, I don't have am/pm enabled, which is obviously the reason.
glad I got it sorted

Android P auto rotate.

So one of the reasons I updated for beta was that auto rotation feature. That even if I have it disabled my phone will suggest me on my navigation bar that I can click and change the orientation of the screen.
However I don't know if it's only me but it's not working at all. I'm on YouTube , or chrome or any other app and that aware button that should appear on my navigation but just doesn't appear at all. Every time I want to change to landscape I need to scroll my status bar and enable it on quick actions.
Anyone expericing the same problem or knows how to fix it?
Thanks for your help in advance
Not me...
How did You get P? By updating or flashing the image? Did you performed the Factory Reset?
I'm also facing the same problem. I did ota update from DP1

From the normal view (video at top, details and comments below) if I rotate device landscape nothing happens.
If I press the expand icon in corner of video it goes fullscreen and landscape even when holding device portrait.

You clearly don't know what I'm talking about.
We this video with the new feature is Android P. Around 2m20s it shows the new feature that, even if you phone has the auto rotation OFF, when you rotate your device, a new icon appears on your navigation bars where you can tap and change the display to landscape. All with auto rotation OFF. To give you the opportunity to change it or not. If you have the auto rotation ON, Everytime you change your home orientation, it will go landscape mode even if you don't want to.
So that's the feature that's not working on mine. With auto rotation OFF ( how it should be ) when im in chrome, in YouTube , in all other apps and I change my screen orientation I don't get the icon appearing in navigation bar.

Sorry for the confusion.
What I mean is auto rotate works fine.
Even the new feature of rotation suggestion also works fine for me.
Check my screen shot attached. Rotation suggest icon is properly appearing in my nav bar when auto rotate off in youtube. However the icon appears for few seconds time limit and when we click it it stays with nav bar to re-rotate.
I shared build number to see there might be any differences due to region or something etc...

Yeahhh it's exactly that. I don't know why it doesn't appear on mine . It's so useful when I'm at bed watching YouTube...
You did anything to activate it or it just appeared?

Question Auto rotate bug?

My P6 Pro is doesn't always auto rotate (it is enabled in QS) I'm rooted (Magisk 24.3), and am on April's FW. I am using Nova Launcher Prime v7.0.57. The other bug I have is: I have home screen folders with 8+ shortcut Icons inside. When I am in portrait mode, I can swipe up to scroll through the folder's icons, but when the phone is in landscape mode - the folders are not scrollable. only the first 6 icons are viewable Is this just me or anyone else with Nova Launcher Prime v7.0.57 can try this?
EDIT... Nova settings--> folder--> window-->immersive. fixed the folder scroll issue
but still have the auto rotate issue
I'm using Nova Launcher Prime v7.0.57, and one of my folders on my home screen (technically in my dock) that I have set to open the folder when I swipe up on works perfectly for me in landscape and portrait including scrolling to get to the additional items in the folder. Tried rebooting?
Edit: Disregard about the folder - I see you found the cause.
Regarding auto-rotate, I think my auto-rotate has been better than it used to be. It mostly affects me when I'm using Google Reader and it didn't always rotate in a timely manner - but I also haven't been reading lately. Rotating on images or videos have always been fine that I recall.
The auto rotate on my P6P is messing up sometimes too, but I'm on completely stock and unrooted. Fully update to date as well.
Sometimes when I rotate my phone into landscape mode it doesn't change, even if I wait a while, so then I rotate it back to portrait mode to try again but as I'm rotating it back to portrait mode it then momentarily DOES switch to landscape mode for a half second and then back into portrait mode since I'm now holding it in portrait mode.
Doesn't work when playing back videos for me.

To add to what I said previously, you could long-press the auto-rotate Quick Setting tile, and if it's enabled by default, which I think it is, then you can disable "Face Detection", which is supposed to make it a smarter auto-rotate in case you're looking at the phone from a weird angle so that it only rotates when it makes sense to.
I turned that off some time ago although I may turn it back on eventually to see if it improved.
