Is it possible to set up different notification sounds for:
Calendar - different notification sound for different calendars (for example phone based, Google and Exchange)?
Emails - different notification sounds for different email accounts (for example Google and Exchange)?
BTW I'm using standard HTC calendar and email widgets and Android 2.1.
Does v 2.2 supports this feature?
Thank you for your answers.
Best Regards
Greg
Hi
Can't get my email to appear in the messages widget on motorola defy (only had this phone for a week). Only get a notfication image of new mail in the status bar. Is the messages widget only for texts?? or should you be able to read your new mail via the widget?
Thanks

Do you use Gmail app from Google? You have to add your e-mail account to Motoblur. Also disable original Gmail sync or you'll get notifications twice I think.
[edit] That's if you use a ROM with Motoblur, I don't know if there's e-mail support in deblur ROMs.
Hi
I thought I had added it, my google account appears in the accounts as " other account" below the motorblur account with all the twitter, facebook etc.
Have I got it in the right place?
( you can tell this is my first smartphone )
Do you have Accounts or other apps from Motoblur like Social Networking? Stock Motorola software is different for various regions and might come with or without social features called as Motoblur. If you don't have it then Messages widget works with regular text messages only, I think.
No I don't have accounts for any of those social networks like twitter etc.
So I suppose I am stuck? And won't be able to have the e-mail displayed within the widget?
Thank you very much for your replies and help though.
I've figured it out and now get email in the messages widget. I hadn't realized there are TWO seperate accounts one for G-mail and one for E-mail. It's quite confusing for a smartphone virgin, but what a cool toy
Have the Yahoo email app. Works great. I use the stock email client for my work exchange account and the Yahoo app for my sbcglobal accounts. The Yahoo app makes a standard sound but I would like to assign a custom notification sound. Want to use the old AOL You Got Mail sound. I have custom sounds for Handcent and I can add a custom sound to the stock email client but would like to add one to the Yahoo client. Anyone know how to do this? I tried to add it as system default but all it did was assign it to the stock messaging widget.
I set the reminder to either notifincation bar or alarm and neither one actually works.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
EDIT:
See post #6 for the fixings.
Same problem here. This is killing me as I use this function constantly. I am not getting notified on gmail calendar or exchange calendar.

Setting up calendar events actually works. I just tested it - a popup does occur in desktop calendar when I set it through the phone.
But absolutely nothing happens on the phone itself.
Is it like that for you too?
Yep, same thing here.
Does anyone know of any widget style calendar app which can force notification/alert for upcoming calendar events independently from the built-in android version (which obviously doesn't work on this phone)?
I started using the free Calendar Snooze from the market on my Evo, mainly because the Evo didn't have (or I couldn't find) a built in snooze, and it works well on the E4GT too. It's very configurable, gives a full screen notification, and will even use text to voice, if you want it to.

Thanks, I am trying it now.
Calendar Snooze works just like I want.
Perfect.
I just asked in IRC, and people said their alerts were working just fine.
I wonder if it's a common app me and gfsnic have...
Right now, I can only think of one calendar related app I have installed - Simple Calendar Widget...
Works fine for me. But the alerts I use were set up within the calendar app on the phone. Are you guys setting the alerts on the web?

No, from the phone.
I've had my SGS2 now for a few weeks and love it.
Got it rooted, boatware removed and setup near perfect.
I'm coming from a N1 running CM7 and an super annoyed by the lack of option to set different notification tones for each gmail account I have setup in the gmail application. (e.g. personal email has a different notification than my work email)
Thinking about this and the google apps post rooting should be the same as I was using in CM7, right?
Anyone know how to get this functionality back?

You can go into the settings for Gmail (Menu > More > Settings) and then choose the specific email account and then choose "Labels to Notify" and set the ringtone for Inbox to what you want.
