During my brother's birthday our parents offered us our very first android and smartphone, he took the HTC one X and I got the Samsung Galaxy S3 since both of us wants variety and preference and they both have excellent performance since they are on the top of the market but recently he has lag/slow issues with his HoX and I can't help but just watch from a distance (literally since he lives in the middle-east and I'm in south-east asia atm) since he is using Sense UI and I'm stuck with TouchWiz UI I can't help him anymore further than this so I'm making this thread.
I admit the SGS3 had lag and sluggish issues too at first that's why I got it fixed when I asked for help from the SGS3 forums section, where I removed S voice and turned off some unnecessary options that I never use (kies, nfc, account sync, motion activation, etc). Remember we both have the international versions of our respective phones and we both use SIM - free from any carrier and we are also non-rooted users. Is there any tips to make his phone faster? All I could do was to constantly advice him to keep clearing the ram and turn off apps he isn't using in the task manager since clicking the home button hides the apps in the background.
Even then he is having lag/slow issues, please get back to me asap so I can relay the necessary information to help him enjoy his HoX. Please do not make this into a SGS3 vs HoX comparison thread, please. I am sick and tired of fanboys from both sides debate endlessly. I am just here asking for help since he's 16 and never used an online forum before so I'm here on his behalf. I also told him to read and follow up this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1603360 but is there anything more we can do?
Your first sentence made it a comparison thread. You could have gotten better responses without the needless SG3 promo.
On the unlikely chance that you are up to something other than an attempt at another comparison thread, I would say that he should flash a Rom with less Bells and whistles.
I don't seem to have this magic lag that only SG3 folk keep talking about.

Rooting and flashing a ROM might do it, there is an add on called Ultra Smooth Rosie (its included in the ViperX ROM) that eliminates the micro lag generated by the Sense 3D animations.
However, before doing that (not sure if your brother doesnt want to mess with rooting/custom ROM s) ask him to install Apex Launcher from the Play Store as well as Home Switcher app.
With Apex Launcher I felt an increase in speed and completely eliminated the small lag I had with Sense. You might want to try it with your SGS3 as well.
Home Switcher app lets you switch between lauchers easily, in a way that you can use Sense or Apex at your convenience.

I wasn't making a comparison thread and I had no intention to do so, I felt compelled to add a background story since most people on this part of the forum will acknowledge that I am an S3 user since my forum signature states so and they would think that I am lying about my brother's HoX which I am truthfully not however I appreciate the honest remarks but I do not want to start anything with you. The second paragraph was a hint to the other readers if there is anything similar that I can do for my brother's HoX like what I did with my SGS3 like turning off some settings that are factory default on which might cause the lag/slow issues.

I am using the Nova launcher with my S3 will the Nova run with his HoX as well? since I'm not familiar with the Apex launcher but do thank you for the advice however if the launchers don't work I'll try to look up the roms you mentioned via root and I will ask him if he is willing to root regarding the risks of it. If anyone else has any ideas please do post further, thank you now all I can do is wait for him to get back from school since there is a 4 hour difference in time zones

Sense needs a lot of power and lags because the CPU (on stock ROMs) doesn't ramp up fast enough.
I'd just flash a ROM onto it. Mine runs 100% lag free now and smooth like the iPad, iPhone 4S and SGS III

As others have said, other launchers are lighter than sense, so will give a percieved speed boost. You will not be able to use the sense widgets though. They only work with sense.
This may get him through until the 4.0.4 updates start rolling out - hopefully just a few weeks.
I'd avoid killing background apps and trying to manage things manually. Android is very good at managing stuff itself - you can't do better. If you are always trying to close/ kill apps the.phone will just start them up from scratch when it needs them - which takes more power and battery. Leave them alone!
If you go down the root/ Rom route - please be careful. You can break the phone if you make a mistake. You will also lose access to official updates - you will need to rely on xda for roms and updates (though this is likely to be faster!)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Flashing a rom is not extremely complicated but one needs to be sure to understand all the steps needed and why they are needed coming from a galaxy s2 myself it took me a week to read all the relevant threads as it needs some extra steps compared to flashing a Samsung phone.
If your brother is not into getting technical I would recommend he install apex or nova launcher (they are basically the same). The difference was amazing for me. In this way you he can wait for the next official update. It's true he will lose the ability to use sense widgets but there are very good alternative. There is even an app in this forum that enables you to use the iconic htc clock widget with apex or nova. Also, htc wallpapers are still available.

A friend has had the Incredible since release. I have the EVO (also since release) and I rooted mine the day I got it. Since that time I've been attempting to convince my buddy to root his phone. I've almost got him to agree to do it (actually, I'll be doing it for him) so I've been doing a bit of research on the Incredible. I got the root method down http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-incredible-hacks/102748-how-root-stock-2-2-using-unrevoked-3-3-a.html if anyone has a different suggestion, please let me know.
I've also looked through the roms available and there is a very good selection but I think that SkyRaider Sense 3.5 probably looks like the best option for him. I know the suggestion of "try a few and see what you like" but the problem with that is that he just wants something that works and he doesn't have to mess with. His biggest complaint is battery life and I'm sure, just as with my EVO, that any rom would be an improvement over stock in that respect.
What I'm looking for is the closest to the stock experience with a focus on stability. For anyone familiar with the EVO roms, I've been primarily using Fresh (although, currently running CM7 )since I got my phone and I'd like to find something along the same lines.
I know this was long, I hate reading long posts, but thank you in advance to whomever could give a bit of advice.
P.S. He was all excited with the iPhone announcement and I'm doing my best to show him the benefits of Android over iOS.
Edit: I also noticed that there is a leaked kernel running around. I noticed that the most recent OTA was in November and I was thinking that there might be another fairly soon. Considering that he doesn't want to have to mess with things and update things, I was thinking that it might be better to wait till after the roms get updated to the next OTA before flashing one for him. Does anyone have any information on if and when a new OTA for the Incredible might be released?
In my opinion, you're right. SkyRaider Sense 3.5 would be great, that's what I'm running and it is unbelievably stable.

Thanks for the reply. 2 questions: 1) how's the battery life? 2) I noticed in the screen shots that the 3G Mobile Hotspot app was still in there. Did he mod it to work without any extra fees? Is there a benefit to using it over using Wireless Tether (which is what I use on my EVO)? I noticed that as late as v3.3 he included Wireless Tether.

This is pretty good too. It gets pretty good battery life (although I am on an extended battery so your results may vary)
The main draw there is all the optimizations on it, the thing is fast.
It's also been very stable for me.
I haven't really liked the built in 3g hotspot, Wireless Tether has been faster and more reliable for me
Battery life is very good, and it actually doesn't include mobile hotspot. He includes WiFi tether, but it has the mobile hotspot icon.

Thanks. I know someone on the EVO section cracked the Sprint hotspot app so I wasn't sure if it was the same deal. Personally, I think wireless tether is better anyway.
Yeah, there's a work around for the Verizon Mobile Hotspot. However, wifi tether works great and I'd rather just avoid verizon all together.
It always starts out peaceful enough....
@ OP: The reason we close what's referred to as "Best ROM Threads" is because the vast majority of the type end up a nasty flame fest. The reasons should be obvious. It's really a matter of opinion, and then you get the fanboys of certain devs chiming in, and well, you get it. You did nothing wrong. My advice is to read, try a few, then make that decision for yourself. It's easy to find the most popular ATM, because they stay on page 1 of the dev sub. That doesn't necessarily make it the best, however. Give some a shot and see what's best for you. Enjoy the forums.
@ OPX2: Got your PM. I'll reopen and give it a chance. Let this serve as a warning as to the future of this thread.

I actually really do like that, very nicely done. Still has that stock feel but just tastefully modified. First thing I noticed was the Gingerbread feel to the status bar and then I read the OP and saw that's what you were going for. I'm currently using CM7 on my EVO and one of the things I really like about it are the green accents.
Question though: I know the power control widgets in the notification tray can be modified, would it still keep the same theme if I were to change them up? (something like the orientation button, I think a flashlight or bluetooth button might be more useful in that spot)

Right here I'd say Magnolia would probably be your best bet, even if only because it's being actively updated; it's fast, it's stable, and the time I've spent with it gave the impression of giving good battery life

yeah, I definitely might be leaning more toward that. 2 questions though:
1) Do you know if the 2.6.32.17 kernel is the latest official? I was looking at the list of kernels and it was dated from October. I know there was an Incredible OTA in November, just wondering if you knew if that was the same kernel in that OTA. Just wondering in case I want to revert to stock from the modified version that's included with the ROM.
2) I noticed in the screen shots there was a notification bar power and control widget with a planet for it's icon, is that mobile data? From left to right they are WiFi, Bluetooth, I believe mobile data, GPS, screen brightness, and sound control.
Not sure about the first one but the second is correct

Incredibly re-engineered 2.2 or 2.0 ROM is great for me....
I know I've made a few topics across XDA (and other forums) regarding my next phone, but after heavy consideration, I ordered a Galaxy Nexus, and the following case in black:
http://www.obostore.com/imak-colorf...slim-case-for-samsung-nexus-prime-p-3941.html
(I just really like the design - not concerned about protection level since I'm great with my tech)
Anyway, a few questions. I've used an AOKP ROM on my G2 with and without a tablet UI for a little bit, so I'm a little familiar with ICS and its features, but one thing I'm not sure of - what apps are specific to ICS and/or the Galaxy Nexus (other than Chrome and Google Wallet)?
Must-have mods/tweaks or ROMs? I haven't delved into it much, but so far, I'm liking ParanoidAndroid for the hybrid phone/tablet support and MIUI v4 for the looks, but looking for anything else is like a needle in a haystack - I have no idea which ROM is actually better/faster than the other.
Disadvantages of rooting the Galaxy Nexus? I know Play Movies doesn't work (but I'm not concerned since I don't use it), but does Wallet still work? Any other apps/functions affected?
Must-have accessories? I'm looking at getting an MHL adapter at some point, but I want to stay away from any docks (at least for the moment) just because of how expensive the official ones are, and not sure if there's any other such accessories I should go for.
Cool housing replacements? I've looked at tear-down videos and the Galaxy Nexus seems really simple to take apart, and I've seen white housing replacements, but I'm wondering if there are any other nice colors available.
Where can I get the official extended battery back/door? From what I understand, the case I'm getting won't fit the new battery door, but by the time I scrounge up the $50 or whatever the kit costs, I'll probably be bored of it and want a new one (not too big on having multiple cases, but I wouldn't mind another nice one just to have a little variety).
Any other things I need to know about the Galaxy Nexus? Don't tell me anything gaming-related - not too concerned both because I'm not a fan of touchscreen gaming, and I intend on getting a used Xperia Play for gaming purposes only.
I forgot to mention that I bought the GSM version off the Play Store.
Anyway, I did a little research, and it seems like everybody prefers the recent JB ROMs - are the JB features/enhancements really that good?

Welcome to the world of rooting
All your questions stem from an assumption / insecurity regarding rooting and trying out things.
There are not that many ROMs out there, learn nandroid, keep a stable copy on the PC. And just try these things out - it's so easy to jump around on ROMs (I've tried 2/3 in one day) that within a few tries you would settle down with something.
Lot of it is subjective, but one thing that remains constant - its safe to root. just follow the guide properly, and do not screw up installing CDMA roms on GSM and other goof ups like that.
happy rooting. (and you can unroot as you probably already know - so its not a one way street)
but then, once u discover the charms - it actually is a one way street
p.s the movies work with root now I believe. I'vent tried but read about it somewhere.

Okay so I'm planning on finally upgrading from my Samsung Vibrant(S1) to an S3. I would go to an S4 but it's still a bit too pricey for me. Anyways, I just wanted to know some general tips and such. What is the latest official firmware, some pros and cons of keeping TW, which ROMs should I use, etc. Just any input would be nice! I think I've just about maxed out my Vibrant's potential with it running SlimBean 4.2.2 for the most part, and recently switching over to CyanAOSP. I think it's my phone, but things are still very laggy. So I can't wait for my S3 to come in.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. First time posting.
You will find out quickly that almost everything here is great. Touchwiz isn't bad on this phone and cm 10.1 has almost all the bugs worked out. So all i can say is happy crack flashing.
Honestly, save a lil more and get the S4. Don't upgrade to last yrs model.
Don't get me wrong, the S3 is a major upgrade from the Vibrant, but I feel like if you have an opportunity to upgrade you should get the very best upgrade available.
Just my 2ยข.

Thing is, I'm in desperate need for a phone currently. My Vibrant is becoming unusable and it'll take me a while to save more money. I'm only 16, and the only source of money for me is an annual thing, which is doing the traditional Lion Dance every Chinese New Years. So, by next year's event, I'm sure S5 will be coming about and my Vibrant will definitely be dead by then. So I'm gonna go ahead and upgrade to an S3 now. I really need it to talk to my gf too, since we're a state away. Thanks for everyone's input about going to S4 though.
Btw, I'm guessing it's not possible, but a T-Mobile S3 can't flash ROMs from the i9300 can it? I wanted to try out the recently released GlamourS4 ROM, but I just realized it was in the i9300 section.. Unless the T-Mobile variant is the same model?

Latest update is 4.1.2, which has multi window.
Touchwiz is ok, definitely recommend getting Nova launcher. Rooting is simple, plenty of instructions, follow them and you'll be good.
I definitely don't recommend flashing kernels or roms not meant for t mobile. You don't want to end up with a hard brick phone. Especially your case that you're tight on money. You don't want to pay extra for a repair.
From MY PERSONAL opinion. Wicked v10 and Stockorama are fantastic touchwiz based roms. Solid battery life and super smooth.
Always read the op and hit the search button.
I can't advise much about AOSP based roms since I just started using one two days ago. I'm on Liquidsmooth 2.5 and it's working great so far.

If you're really that tight on money, then maybe you shouldn't root.
And as mentioned above, do not flash anything from the International S3 section.

So 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 are leaks right now? What would be advantages of staying on 4.1.2 until the official release?
Yeah, I've been using Nova on my Vibrant for who knows how long. I love it.
Thanks to everyone for the info about carrier-specific flashing. I wasn't intending on trying it until I got an answer anyways.
So what kind of advantages would I get from TW roms and AOSP roms? I know the Samsung specific things like multiwindow, but what else? Or is just a matter of preference?

Trust me, they won't. I've tried asking for a bit of money so I could get the S3 when it was first released. It'll be the same thing if I ask for a bit to get an S4.

I'm not against rooting, but if you're tight on cash, then maybe you should think twice about it. Accidents can happen, you can accidentally flash the wrong kernel or rom and brick your device. It can be fixed, but it will cost you.

The latest official release was 4.1.2 which came out a few weeks ago. It's major improvement imo was multi window. I didn't care about the other features personally.
If I'm not mistaken all AOSP roms are 4.2.2 based.
Advantages for touchwiz roms is great stability. You shouldn't come across many, if any bugs at all. You will have all the gesture features on touchwiz roms. Palm to screenshot, tap to refresh, smart stay, etc. You will have more camera features. Everything should just work.
AOSP have more customization but you will give up Samsung features, downgraded camera imo, and you will likely come across minor issues. Random reboots, flickering issues, etc.
I'm not saying AOSP roms are bad. The community here is great and for the most part there's always a solution. I'm running an AOSP rom and I haven't had any issues so far.
One thing I'll recommend, don't switch between AOSP and touchwiz roms back and forth. You may experience some issues, best to Odin stock from an AOSP rom then flash a touchwiz rom afterwards. It's not difficult, just a bit time consuming.

Touchwiz isnt horrible, I just don't like it very much. Its stable, but to me its too laggy, that and I can only have 4 rows and columns on the launcher for icons. If you ask me, it wastes screen real estate, but there are alternatives to it.
Overall once you get 4.1.2 running on this phone it becomes very very stable.
If you want another launcher, Nova (Prime version is 4$, Go Launcher Ex, ADW are all fine choices. Just be warned that Touchwiz Widgets (Such as the Touchwiz Calendar, Accuweather) cannot be used with those Launchers. I use Nova Prime (With Teslaunread for unread email and MMS counts), and it is rock solid stable, and also has Project Butter enhancements which just make it so smooth its not even funny.
Granted, there are also replacements for those such as the Weather Channel, Weather Underground, Google Calendar (Which is what I use anyway), and tons more on Google Play
The S3 is a reasonably good phone, and the only phone I would actually ditch it for would be the Galaxy S4: Nexus Edition when it gets released, granted the GS4-N is not LTE compatible, and costs full price (650$ from what I hear), but it will be Pure AOSP.
I like my GS3.
Also dont use the stock music player, believe me, its not that good. Buy/download one of these
Poweramp (4$)
N7Player (also 4$),
Winamp (Free, but has a paid version that removes Ads and unlocks a couple features).
There are many other Music Players. As for Video Players, I use Moboplayer.
Also the i9003 is the international model. No rom for the SGH-T999 will work on the i9003, nor will any rom built for the i9003 work on the SGH-T999. In fact, flashing either of them to the opposite will brick your phone.
-----------------
I think Purple Ferret meant to say i9300, not i9003.
-----------------
Throwing in my experience with TouchWiz.
The SGS3 is a pretty solid phone, and some of the TouchWiz stuff can get you quite hooked (personally, I like how you're able to flip through the homescreen until you are back at the beginning, and some nice touches they recently included for their file manager like the helix and roll pin scrolling), but it's mostly a matter of preference.
On the other hand, I started having issues with the stock TouchWiz after almost a year of use. It would randomly restart itself from time to time, then all controls became unresponsive after start-up (volume buttons, home button, touchscreen and the soft buttons); only the power button was working. I only got it working again after I did a clean wipe and restored an older backup. Which then inevitably led me to check out custom ROMs.
I never had an Android phone before this one, but my brother had been tinkering with his Vibrant for years now. He was the one that helped me root my SGS3, and he stated that it's a lot easier to do things now than it was back when he first started since there's an app for just about everything needed. (Just to give you a perspective)
Besides, the instructions around here are pretty easy to follow.
And yeah, if you are going for a T-Mobile SGS3, only look for ROMs compatible with SGH-T999 (T999) for T-Mobile (d2tmo).

Yes exactly, my bad.
Ask your mom or dad or even family members if you can borrow money to buy an S4. I was touching the S4 the other day at Tmobile and it's so fast and smooth makes me wanted it so bad. I think S4 is better than S3. Go for the S4 I would say.
TouchWiz feels too bloaty and laggy for my taste, so I recommend using CM10.1. The smoothness in scrolling and general navigation of the UI are definitely noticeable compared to even the most de-bloated TouchWiz ROM. Just my 2c.
I would love to send my phone off and get it now but that's just not possible. I'm actually enjoying a bone stock device right now. If no exploit comes I think this is the first phone I could run stock and pretty much enjoy it.
I will wait, I am in no big hurry enjoying stock also.

I actually did do the S-Off, and I'm running a 4.3 ROM and I'm not entirely convinced I'm going to stay this way. I think I may return to the BoneStock ROM. Sense is nice. If Verizon would let you remove their bloat it would be even better. I can understand pre-loading stuff but prohibiting us from removing apps we'll never in a million years use? That's crap.
I agree. I'm still locked down but its definitely the first device I love stock already. S3 was ok, but the One puts everything else to shame pretty much.

First thing I did was get away from Sense 5. I never gave Blinkfeed a chance, I'll admit it, but I hate it on principle. I have flipboard and only have to look at it when I feel like it. I use Nova and it does everything that I need it to do and more. I have seen every iteration of Sense and liked it until Blinkfeed. I do have a question though; those of you that stayed with it, does Blinkfeed cause a noticeable drain on resources such as battery or data? Besides just being in my face, that was my major concern.
I agree that this is the first phone that I have owned that I am enjoying bone stock and locked. However, I get complaints from anyone I call on Bluetooth (with my car) that they are having a hard time hearing me. I had a S4 with this car and had no issue. Very hopeful that 4.3 and its Bluetooth updates will fix this problem as it is the only thing that is driving me nuts as I can't use the Bluetooth in my car at all right now.
Wish I could unlock and flash 4.3 to see if it fixes the problem

I've got an f-150 with the SYNC system, it has been buggy since I bought it but so far no problems with this device, bluetooth media streaming and all.
I'm stock and I have no problem with it this way. Would I like to get rid of the bloat, run ad blocking, etc? Sure. Blinkfeed is like Feedly for grammar school or something. So I'm using Nova, which I like a lot.
So yes, I'm hoping someone comes up with (and shares) a root exploit. If 4.3 should arrive OTA, that will be a tough decision as to accept or not. Chances are I'll wait a bit to see what develops. Meanwhile, I'm loving this device.

I enjoy BlinkFeed. I just switched it so it's not my home page. I have awesome battery life on this phone.
I don't think blinkfeed drains any battery whatsoever. I pretty much don't use it, but I really like the sense launcher so I deal with it.

I am still up in the air about getting the s-off or not (at this current time - will probably do it eventually). I love the phone as is thus far...quick, decent battery, and I like how slim Sense has become - compared to froyo and gingerbread...
I am not entirely sold on the blinkfeed yet...it's cool...but I'm thinking it's because it is a novel item.
I'm still locked, I'm also fine with the stock ROM. I would like better backup options, and remove the Verizon bloat. I'd really like root access to block ads. I've also been a fan of Sense, but I don't care much for Blink feed. Right now I'm using the Nova launcher, and it works well for me. In either case, I'm keeping the phone, unlocked or not, but hopefully an exploit will be released for those of us who opt to not ship off our phone.
With blinkfeed removed I love sense 5.
I have it removed by default in my ROM.
you can easily add it back but once you do you can't remove it until re-flash.
it doesn't eat any battery while not in use from my experience..

Since you are rooted and unlocked.
Make a nandroid of the stock system, then remove all the bloat you want.
When it's time to take an OTA restore the nandroid and do it all over again.
I have a few days... Wish there was an equal device to switch to but this thing is an animal... The bloat is bs, and I really miss running mokee on my phone, and could build it for this one if we could get it unlocked... Really good factory sw but I've been on 4.3 with my atrix 2 since days after it came out, I just want some source code and an unlocked device... I think I'll wait, but I'm not locked down yet... This is my first HTC device, but code is easy, for anyone else that wants to tackle the lock down with me....

That my friend is a true Android statement!! Although I believe whoever does figure something out would deserve it for the work that goes into it. After all this is a free hobby for most people besides buying new phones.
forgive my ignorance, but isn't their a way to free bloat on stock?
I think remember this being talked about on the s4 forums.

the OP above you was what I was thinking of.
pardon me if this had been asked recently. while the roms out there are top notch, I feel like im getting bored. why is there never new roms or updates? is it because we still have 4.1.2?
I bought this phone because its the greatest phone for me. battery life. size. power. etc. thought it would be one of the better supported.
dont get me wrong. I love the rom im using. its flawless. so I shouldnt complain. but it also has a feature to use torch on lockscreen by pushing the home button. love it. but I cant find it as an add on. so im stuck on this rom.
and im nervous about aosp roms. I love them. I really do. but battery life decreased by about 50% during the week I had an aosp rom installed. so im partial to touchwiz.
I have a great set up now. its just discouraging to think people are giving up on the note 2. which imo is still the best phone you can buy. not over the top on specs but good enough. huge battery. screen res that is not beyond what my eyes can see. and a cpu that doesnt have to blsze at 50 million mhz to run the phone and every app I need. enough ram. etc
This is the same song-and-dance that Samsung has displayed since they started making flagship Androids. They promise timely updates, and not a single one of their phones has ever received an update that can even be conceived of as "timely."
The way Samsung treats their customer base is exactly why TW ROM development has grinded to a halt. People are sick of it. There is nothing new that can be done/added to 4.1.2, so TW devs are waiting for 4.3 to drop (if and when it ever does) to resume TW development.

Or, the devs have done as much as possible with what's been released of TW thus far.
To the OP: The pinnacle has been achieved. Go forth and use your phone and not be bothered by the lack of dev lately: there's nothing left to do until more TW is released by Samsung

Tips for a pleasant XDA:
Search before asking. Someone has likely already asked.
Spell your words completely, and use punctuation. It confuses people when you use "u" and "ur" and "dat", or when you wrongly use "there/their/they're/your/you're".
Be nice. Don't be rude, just move on to another post without leaving a comment. We are not 7 years old.
And PLEASE, do not ask for the "best" anything. We all have our preferences.

Agreed my HTC one went from 4.1.2 to 4.2 to 4.3 already while my note 2 has yet to get an update.
That is sad lol
We should not complain. This is nothing compared to the wait i had to endure with my x10
Because AOKP rules and I get over 6 hours of screen on time with the stock battery/kernel
You said your nervous about AOSP roms because of the battery drain......I was always told the Rom needs to settle and drain all the way down and charge all the way up a couple of times before it settles and you will see the buttery smooth stuff....lol...(Great Battery Life)
Once a month, I let my battery completely die and charge it all the way up (while phone is off)....
I have great battery life on all the roms I try. I can make my phone last 4 days doing regular stuff most of the time before a charge...
I do always come back to Jedi X19....Its just more my type. Beanstock, PACMAN, and others are good too...I just have better experiences with multiple apps while working with TW roms. On the other hand, all the customization you can do with an AOSP rom is insane and I miss it......
To each is own......Battery life sucks on stock roms...Even with freezing apps, its nothing compared to a custom rooted rom.

4.3 TW rom for the Note 2 should be out in a month or so. Development will increase again since they will actually have something new to work with. Unless you are looking for a TW rom that gets updated weekly and the only changes made is the style/size/color of the font.
AOSP development tends to slowdown (almost to a halt) everytime a new version release draws near, as developers don't want to spend countless hours making a new feature that might very well not work in the new version. Once the source code is out development will skyrocket for AOSP devices, while our forum may take a few additional weeks to actually start seeing any action.
Last, I don't consider this device to be stale and dead, I just think that it's in a limbo of some sort. Since I only run AOSP roms I'm not mad at Samsung support, but I am very intrigued of the way samsung has ingnored it's MOST EXPENSIVE phone. I really expected a lot more from them. But as I said I'm runnig 4.3 (AOKP) and I'm extremely happy with my Note 2. Don't see any other device out there that would make me ditch the Note 2. (well maybe I'm a little curious of the Oppo N1).
