(Q) Membership ranking

Ok guys so I usually am on XDA on my phone and don't actually see everything like in the browser version (such as the damn thanks button), but anyways I noticed that I am now a senior member (I feel like I'm a legit XDA member now lol). How does one acheive this and what are the different levels of "membership" you could say? Just curious.

Junior member is 0-19 posts
Member is 20-99 posts
Senior Member is 100+ posts
Recognized Developer you need to apply for, and you must have developed several unique roms
Moderator you must be a moderator lol

Ok cool. I figured it would take more to be a senior member, kind of like becoming a RD. So even total noobs like me can be a Senior Member. Lol Just our of curiosity, what does it take to be a moderator?

I think you have to apply for a position. Usually in the General section they will have positions available in a post. If you get it, then you get to moderate people and delete posts, as well as have the title.

Thanks for the info... On a side note, I noticed you put in your Sig a hybrid ROM that you have in the works. Can you give me any details about it? Like sense version, gb or froyo, and stuff like that? New roms are intriguing, but if you can't or don't want to post anything about it yet that's cool too, I don't mind.

Haha nah it's fine it's just an Evo Shift port right now... Everything works except camera and accelerometer(Landscape mode )
I want to get stuff working before I release it, but then I'll put stuff in like the 3.0 locking and maybe the 3D carousel.

Just wanted to add that Recognized Devs are not JUST rom developers, but app makers and script writers (like myself)

Sweet! This sounds awesome! Is it like GB and stock sense, kind of like Stang's Hybrid or is it going to be themed? By stock sense I meant like without remappable right button and other stuff like that, because 3.0 lock ring is not stock. Lol

It probably will start out as stock, but I will theme it as I go along. It's a bit like Pure Speed at the moment, but I will implement things like the lockring and carousel as well as maybe some AOSP features. It probably will also have a remappable right button.

What does the op mean? Some people are senior member and some are seinor member [op].

according to his post, xda moderators closed his thread because he is charging for his app.
but i really dont see anything wrong with this, he does offered a "lite" version and a paid version.

Seems pretty clear, if you require payment for certain features, you can't use xda to advertise your product. If the free/paid versions offered the same functionality, there would be no problem.

Just searched for JKay's Deluxe Framework for SIII and that thread also disappeared -> so 2 GREAT things were not only closed but completly deleted from XDA.
LegendK made his simplistic framework with some goodies (FREE), the awesome "MultiWindow App/MOD" (FREE) for it and - if you wanted more - you were able to DONATE to him to get FULL CONTROL over his stuff.
He didn't break the rules, he just bended them.
So what was the problem?
Someone should start a petition.

This sucks bigtime. Lucky I still had the latest version backupped.
I know there are rules in place, but I guess the closure of the thread is quite demotivating for Legend.
Afaik, the thread was about the framework. The control app is an extra you can buy... Nevertheless, there's no way back, and hopefully he'll start another thread.

Everyone says "Thats why all the developers are going to Rootz"... I get it, whatever... but here is the thing, it looks like that forum is NEVER updated. My question about that is... do I really need to become a paid member $10.. just to see the "special" developers forum? lol

Chill... XDA has the best devs. and most active community. Dont see that changing. Do you feel like you have received $10 worth of help/software? If so, pay the $10. If not, don't.

What happens is that on your page .. the developer says that those who donate, will be able to have the firmware before, but also later, release them FREE to the entire community. I mean that's just to support and encourage hard work.
oh and it's true ... You're right I did hurry and did not realize .. Moderators please move this thread to the General section please ..

The application for RD covers more than "Did you release anything?" It also asks how you will help the community in general. Only XDA can sell the work developers contribute here. It's a lot like a university saying they own the rights to your projects. I don't think either side is right, but you know what you're signing up for.

But surely there've been Portal Posts promoting paid apps made by members of this place, that XDA does not profit from? Besides, XDA can't possibly sell an Android ROM, right? I'd like to get the full story on this; I don't like the sound of it at all. What the heck happened that could possibly justify their abuse if it isn't your reason?

well he is going to release a free version after one month
developer of dixperia roms did something like this too but why no one told anything to him?

XDA doesn't seem to be on the right side of things on this.. atleast they don't sound like they have a logical reason to be right.
Overlay team was doing right,.. that's my opinion.

They do have an area for announcing paid software, but that's the only place it's permitted.
XDA doesn't sell ROMs directly, just advertising and stuff like that.
There could be 1000 reasons, but they're really between the dev and XDA. Only one side of the story is given by a blog post and most people aren't going to admit they were wrong and then ask for donations.

Well known Recognised Developer team that works on 4.4 for Xperia 2011 devices(including xplay), has built their own 4.4.2 firmware. They offer an early access version to people who donate $5 on their website. After 1 month, it all becomes free to the public. Apparently XDA didn't like that, and revoked their recognised developer status and deleted the thread. The development team is asking us to PM the forum administrators and show our disagreement on the matter.
Also, achtojan hasn't posted anything in the past 3 days on xda since this happened, can't blame him.

XDA FORUM RULES - #11

So basically they should have just made the mandatory donate version on their personal website, then when it goes free they could have posted it on xda and still accept donations. The rules aren't very well laid out concerning this. It certainly doesn't justify revoking their RD status.

They didn't technically break rule number 8. The development team isn't saying "donate now and in a month you will receive it". They're saying donate now and receive it immediately, or wait and get it for free. Or is that still not allowed? I've seen many paid services on XDA, I guess the teams main mistake was posting it on XDA instead of just their website.

The problem is, that all of they're firmware can only be obtained for a fee. That is against the rules. If they posted a link to a donate and free version then it would be fine, but everything they linked to is for money. Not OK.

That makes sense. If that's really the case, I'm on XDA's side.
