How do I stop 9016 text messages? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I have tried everything I know to stop the texts from 9016, but they keep coming. When I was having network issues, I installed google voice, but since its been removed I keep getting these. I turned the notifications off in google voice before I deleted it, I have tried sending a recorded message to [email protected] or whatever, I have tried sending a message to myself. I have tried blocking text via sprints website, I have tried blocking texts via the text blocker app built into the phone.....anyone help?

call Sprint customer service or maybe tech support. I've personally got no idea what a 9016 text is, so it's possible that no one else here knows either.

Go to the market and install mycalculator by chirpapps and put in 9016

black list the number..
go sms has the ability
along with many other security apps
just block it.

the 9016 is something to do with google voice having to forward your calls to get voicemails. Once I removed google voice, i continue to get the 9016 message, along with the notification from the voicemail app

I'm assuming you have a 3rd party sms/mms. Go into your third party settings and make sure "disable stock notifications" is NOT checked. Head over to your stock sms/mms and disable notifications.
If that doesn't work, uninstall your 3rd party and reinstall. When installing don't disable stock notifications if prompted to.

Subscribe to voicemail text transcription then unsubcribe. It might take a couple of days but it will stop

9016 is a related to visual voicemail voice to text service. A rom has to block it at a java level if doesnt include working visual voicemail. I had this issue on htc evo. Or yes blacklist it.

Visual voicemail not working: voicemail text?

Hi this just started happening recently. I don't know what's going on because I didn't flash a new rom or anything. I'm running Warm 2point2 version 5 from January.
Anyway, my visual voicemail was working a few days ago. however, now I keep getting text messages saying
//ANDROID: 2123314140 has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. Call 408-970-0000 to listen. MMSN, 165690d00, 2086, V69zLlbixvi//CM
Has this happened to anyone else and why?? Thanks for any help.
That sounds like Google Voice. Have you used that? You'll need to go to Google's website on a computer, sign in, go to "Voice" and go to settings.
Hm I've used Google Voice before and had issues and I brought it into Sprint and they fixed it for me. I thought I was rid of Google Voice already! Hmm so what do you do in settings? All it gives me is billing and account, to change it to english or the time zone =/. How do I rid myself of Google Voice once and for all???
I had this happen too out of the blue. It's not google voice. It is either Handcent SMS or Go SMS Pro. I have Go SMS and what I did to solve it was uncheck the box in Settings>receive Settings> Disable other message notification. That solved it for me.
All sprint probably did was uninstall the app. Trust me, I've made the comment of Google voice taking over your phone like Cyberdyne before lol.
Anyways, go to Google and log in. Go to "voice." Go to settings, manage phones, or numbers, or something line that. You have to uncheck your phone number to finally break the link. If you can't find it I'm sure somebody can explain it a little clearer lol.
It wouldn't hurt to check your settings in handcent, if use it. However, if you have not actually fonder to Google's website on the computer, and unlinked your phone number, then you have not really really escaped yet.
Hi this is Jack Diemer, the voicemail product manager at Sprint. It looks to me like you Visual Voicemail did not provisioned. You are receiving the voicemail, but the client does not know what to do with it, so it is giving you the SMS user experience as if you were not a Visual Voicemail subscriber. Try these steps.
Make sure that no 3rd Party Apps are affecting Visual Voicemail (such as any SMS, MMS, TaskKiller, Handcent app)
Next…..
1. Go to dial pad and hit *38 Talk to cancel any call forwarding.
2. Power off the device and remove and replace the battery and power back on.
3. Update profile by hitting Menu – Settings – System Updates – Update profile (try to leave yourself a VM)
4. Go into the visual voicemail application and compose a visual voicemail message (Hit Menu - Compose) of 5+ seconds and send to [email protected]m.sprint.com
5. Test to see if visual voicemail is working again, and if the top 4 items above do not solve the issue, I recommend you call *2 and talk to a Sprint Customer Care Representative.
Thanks for all the responses!! AliLaPointe was right; it was my GO SMS -_______-. I just had to disable the "disable other text notifiications" to get my voicemail working again. Does that mean you'll have to just live with multiple text messages to get your visual voicemail?
And voicemail guy thanks for the advice. Is it true you can send a voicemail as opposed to leaving one (i.e. you compose a message and record it and then send it to them? How does that work? is it like email but in voice format?"
ok, this has been driving me nuts. It is my Handcent SMS, that is messing up visual voicemail. I dont know how why or when they put a part of this program in to cause this text message notifications to come instead of my VVM, but I HATE IT! Uninstalled Handcent and all works like it is supposed to.
Any ideas of how to get handcent to work as it did just a week ago? I did not get an update that I know of.
Also if you hit #2 when you dial that weird number ending in all 0000s, it will say that you will receive all voicemails to the phone. I dont know if that works or not as I am not going to install Handcent again.

Thank you voicemailguy....you've saved me. When I called sprint about this exact issue. The only hope they had for me was to do a hard reset...I don't think so. I truly think for my case I had a little of both issues my Go SMS pro was enabled and vvm wsa not activated. Thanks again for alleviating my frustrations.

[Q] GOOGLE VOICE is KILLING ME!!!

This morning everything was fine. I was able to receive voice mail's via Google Voice and text through the stock messenger app (on CM7 nightly)
I went ahead and installed Deck's ROM and instead of restoring Google Voice via MyBackup Pro I just installed it fresh from the Market. This is where the trouble began. Fast forward...I restore my Nandroid of CM7 nightly (where i previously had NO problems) and this is what is happening:
1. Text are only coming through the Google Voice app...I can send text through the stock messaging app but cannot receive them.
2. When I pick up a phone call I now get a message stating I should press (1) to take the call or (2) to send it to voicemail!
This is driving me INSANE!!! I have a feeling that this new Google Voice integration with Sprint is what the problem is. I have no idea how to fix the problems listed above...please help!
Ok. I went to google.com/voice and logged in to access some options that aren't available through the APP. I was able to disable the "Call Screening" So now phone calls are received as normal.
However, I still can't figure out how to stop this POS Google Voice from messing with my text messages. Now when I get a text I get only a google voice notification and no stock messenger app notification. this is retarded!
In the Google Voice settings you have to check the option to receive text messages on this phone. If you have that and inbox sync turned on you will get text messages in both the messaging app and GV. It's annoying but it does work.
my only fix for this was to disable inbox sync, but have voice send me texts when i get a new voice mail. its so super annoying...

There is a workaround. Just figured it out so thought i would share.
Go to phone (first tab in voice settings) > edit settings > very bottom - check you would like to receive text messages on this phone & save settings.
Problem should be solved.
Hope this helped
Yep, you have to edit the settings for your phone, when it shows what numbers you have under your account.

Dude, I had this same issue, yes you can disable the pressing 1 option, but i disabled google voice about 50x on my phone, and i did about 5 factory resets, called sprint 5 different times talked to 10 different reps.. I literally tried everything for over a month to fix my texting issue, If i didn't use google voice i couldn't receive a text on my phone.. Sprint literally suggested that i just get a new insurance phone and that they would waive my $100 fee, which i wound up having to do... If you are unable to get text messages on your native app there is NO fix for it.. Don't waste your time trying.. I literally spent hours a day for a month uninstalling and reinstalling google voice, factory resetting, downloading every messaging app, reinstalling the messaging apk's.. Having sprint change my number and reset my phone.. There is nothing you can do.. The only way to fix it is to get a new phone.. Which unfortunately causes you to lose root.. Just giving you the heads up.. I'm in no way a noob and i'm extremely good with my EVO.. I'm rooted and have ran basically every ROM out there, and I've made 100 posts on google voice forums and on XDA and even called every rep at sprint to try and fix it.. To this day i've read this happening to probably over 50 people and Not a single one of them ever found a fix, and ever single post i read the original poster said they had to get a new phone to fix it.. and i'm just another number on that list, as i now have a 2.3.3 unrooted evo because of this= / Sorry man.. stay away from google voice.. They offer 0 tech support or live help and there is no fix for this issue as of yet.
Everyone will tell you, just go to google.com/voice and click 'disable' under the gear in the top right hand corner.. But i did this literally over 50 times and i would install and uninstall google voice over and over and over, and nothing i did would fix my texting issue.. You can try.. but i'm telling you it's not going to fix it.. Even a factory reset and not logging into my google account wouldn't fix it.. I have no idea what causes it, but somehow it permanently blocks your ability to receive text messages without their google voice app.
i am also having the same problem. after installing google voice to recieve voice messages on my sprint htc evo i no longer recieve text through my stock messenger. ive called sprint 4 times and been through the steps (resetting my phone, taking the battery out, factory reset, etc) but i still cant recieve text.
ive tried changing the options through the gv browser, nothing! is there no way to fix this??
I'm in the same boat. I rooted, flashed a couple find and somewhere in between I wasn't getting text messages or voicemails. I unrooted, factory reset and it was the same. I finally went in to Google voice and made the settings so I can now recieve both cm and texts but even with the Google voice app on my phone telling me that I should be recieving texts through the native app I don't. Not sure if this is a root users problem only or for stock users that never rooted their phone.

Oh and I'm picking up a replacement EVO today to "fix" the problem. I guess ill root it nandroid backup first thing and try a Rom out. Wonder if 3.0-3.5 sense roms are breaking it.

Interesting. I had the same issue, and just as I was at wits end, and changing/editing all settings I got it to work. To review my settings:
Phones Tab:
Google Voice Number: (my cell #)
Forward Calls to: box checked - (my cell #)
- receive texts at this phone (box checked)
- Notify me of new voicemails via text (box not checked)
Google Chat (box not checked)
Voicemail & Text Tab
- Email the message to (my e-mail address) (box checked)
- Forward text messages to my emailmy email address) (box not checked)
- Transcribe Voicemails (box checked)
Calls Tab
- Call Screening (off)
- Caller ID (incoming) Display Caller's Number
- Enable "Do Not Disturb" (box not checked)
- Place missed calls in the inbox(box not checked)
- Send missed calls to my email(box not checked)
- Enable Recording (4), Switch (*) and Conferencing options on inbound calls(box not checked)
- Send calls and text messages from numbers identified as spam by Google directly to the Spam folder(box checked)
There are a few other questions/tabs but none of them seemed to have any remote possiblity of effecting calls/texts.
I also use Handcent as my text default text app
I hope this helps.

I think the google voice settings might conflict - just go reset them (see my post above for my settings). You may need to go to the app manager, click on google voice, and press "clear defaults" -- then the next time you press the message app, you will get the GV/stock messenger choice. You can then mark it as default.
I hope this helps!
well i unrooted my phone, but it didnt help, seemed to make another problem!, now not only would i not get texts or voicemails from the stock apps or any other for that matter, now i couldnt make calls or recieve any calls.
i called sprint and explained it all again asking for tech service right away so i wouldnt waste time removing the battery, updating the prl and profile etc.. anyway after a hour with a tech my phone is working good as new.
it was funny cause after he told me some things to do to it i started getting a flood of texts from the stock messenger and tons of voicemails from the stock voicemail app. it now works perfect, no google voice needed! he had a hard time getting the voicemail to work at first, he said it was going nowhere. when people called my phone it said the cricket customer! im with sprint! he had me enter some codes in the phone app that he said reset the phone, on his end and on the phone itself.
anyway its fixed! no need for a new phone.
heres the steps he told me to do, i hope i got the numbers right:
dial ##654458#, it will do something and go to another screen after resetting some things.
select edit
then theres two options, select the second number (msid i believe) (write it down first)and change the number to ten 1's (thats 1111111111)
then hit menu on your phone pad and select "commit"
the phone will reset itself.
now do those steps again but enter the old msid number i told you to write down, back into where the ten 1's are.
then hit menu on your phone pad again and select "commit"
the phone will reset itself.
it should be okay after this and you should recieve texts and voicemails from your stock apps.
note: i uninstalled and disabled google voice from both my phone and through the google voice web site settings.
I had the same issue. When you set up voice you integrated your sprint phone number with google voice. Uninstall gv and reinstall gv. On the first screen it asks you to integrate your phone number with gv. Skip that and proceed with normal install. All your issues will clear up.

Gv is pretty cool. You can set up different voice mail answer messages for different people. I have one for my wife and one for everyone else. Plus it'll dictate messages for you if you don't want folks to know you are checking you're vm.

Having Voicemail Problems!!!

Ok for some reason when I recieve a voicemail it no longer gives me the notification at the taskbar that I recieved a voicemail.
Instead it texts me that I recieved a voicemail but it doesn't actually text me whats in the voicemail.
I can't figure out why these settings changed. Why did it stop telling me that I have a voicemail in the notification bar.
I recently downloaded Handcent SMS but the problem started way before I downloaded the app.
I checked the messaging settings and can't find anything. I also checked Handcent SMS settings to see if I can find something for voicemail notifications. No success in either.
Before I downloaded Handcent sms I didn't get any type of notification just a missed call. When I just checked my voicemail one day I had 8 voicemails...
1. Where can I find the settings to give me a notification in the taskbar when I recieve a voicemail?
2. Also in my voicemail how come I can't set the system standard greeting? I have to leave a personal greeting. Is there anyway I can get the system standard greeting?
Probably google voice

What are you trying to tell me.
Is there a setting in google voice that I can turn on to have the notification in the taskbar? and to shut it off from sending me a text?
What about the personal greeting?
Did you go to www.google.com/voice and click on your number on the top right-hand side and look at the settings? Under the phones tab you can tell it to send you a text when you get voicemail. Under the voicemail & Text tab you can change the greeting to System Standard, and Transcribe voicemails.

[Q] Text Message Not Sent

If I send a text message from the default messaging app, I get a "Text Message Not Sent" message, and if someone sends me a message, instead of showing up with their name, it has a number I don't recognize, but their name will be appended to the message. I don't have these issues if I use Google Voice.
I KNOW it has something to do with GV settings, but I've tried everything I can think of to reset it, including clear data on both apps, uninstall and reinstall of GV. I even tried changing radios. I really do NOT want to do a factory reset. I suppose I can use the rather anemic GV app for texts, but if someone texts my "real" phone number, I think I won't get notified of it.
Is there some setting I'm missing, or some third-party app that can unify texting across both numbers?
Wait now... So first off, when someone texts you, they're sending it to your Google Voice number?
And when you send texts out, which number are you trying to use?
The first part of troubleshooting here is to go into Google Voice settings and tell it to not receive texts via the Messaging app. If you're going to be using only your GV # for SMS, just use the Google Voice app. Don't have it forward to your Messaging app it just causes problems (like random #'s as you've seen).
It keeps things simple. When you get an SMS to your Messaging app, you know it was sent to your carrier #. You reply and it comes from your carrier #.
When you get an SMS in your GV app, you know it came to your GV # and when you reply it comes from your GV #.
This really is the simplest way to manage it if you want to be able to use both your carrier # and the GV #.
Regardless, GV should never get in the way and prevent you from sending texts from the Messaging app.
The problem is that it doesn't matter what I have the GV app set to. I still can't send texts from my messaging app. Even if i uninstall GV, i still can't send texts from my messaging app.

I think you're having a separate issue. In all of my time using Google Voice in different configurations there's nothing that has stopped my stock Messaging app from sending and receiving SMS to my carrier #.

CM 10.1 voicemail issues

First, I have a d2tmo so I'm unfamiliar with the d2spr builds. I'm actually writing about my brother's and I haven't seen this issue mentioned in other threads. Basically the problem is twofold:
(1) He can access his phone's internal voice mail just fine and it registers his key presses perfectly. But when he tries to access his work voice mail, it seems as if it does not register his key presses at all (i.e. when he tries to press a key to delete or do anything, it just continues as if nothing had been pressed). This so far seems to only affect accessing his work voicemail remotely. I confirmed it is working on my d2tmo. Have there been key press issues with the dialer?
(2) Whenever he gets voice mails, two things happen. First, he gets an SMS saying "[Person] has sent you a voice SMS message, please dial [CA phone number] to listen." When he dials it, it gives him a busy signal. He also gets random texts from #9016 saying he's received a voice mail as well. From what I've read this sometimes is caused by visual voice mail issues on different phone models, but he has no visual voice mail installed. Is this a common issue with the GSIII?
Other than these two issues, he loves CM 10.1, so I'd like to help him out and solve them.
Any help is appreciated; thanks.

Well known problem.... It's how Sprint notifies the visual voicemail app to download the message.
You can download root call blocker and permanently block them, but you will never get another notification as to you having a message.
Option 2 is what I did. I installed Sprint Visual Voicemail, downloaded Red List from the marketplace. Turned off stock message notifications to hide the text, in the redlist app I blacklisted 9016 and turned on the notifications in it. This causes the notification to come from redlist, not the message app and redlist deletes the text messages so you don't have to deal with them. They pop through with just enough time for the VVM app to know to download it so you get your messages as well.
Theres a fix for the text from 9016, try googling "disabling texts from 9016 cm10" because it was an issue starting wih jellybean for most phones
