My goodness!! I am so damn excited!! OMG!! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all , i am an all time huge google fan but when the time i lost my last google phone i was force to use a crappy phone for the past 5months , and now my dad finally agreed to buy the Nexus for me ...AND I AM TOTALLY GOING OVER THE MOON!!
but then i decide to instantly get root access and get some great roms when i get the phone and i have to be cautious because i killed my w8 in the past so ...i have some doubts in my mind , so can anyone answer them ? just to be on the safe side
1.Is there any precautions before i root my nexus ? like checking the manfacture date etc ...
2.i've seen a lot of preks paranoid android seems to offer and let say i wanted to flash this rom can i learn everything from this video ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72Ow-YQeex4 like how to root etc
3 . does nexus comes preloaded with a stock recovery ? if so how do you enter it ?
4 . how safe it is to root the nexus ? how prone it is to bricking from the scale of 1 to 10?
so thanks

Are you getting the gsm or cdma ?
And if its CDMA Verizon or spent ?

Yep that it is I have done every thing flashing wise with this phone and have yet to brick it.
unlike the droid 3 the nexus is almost unbrickable in my book.
But that still does not mean it can't be done tho.

Gratz ! i am getting mine in maybe some time but i am getting prepared for it!

very hard to brick this baby.soft-bricked at least 30 times, sometimes,a reflash of rom is all you ave to do,other times instead i had to restock the phone using fastboot due to big probs or a bad recovery.fastboot is simple to use, google for it and its commands to use.if you are totally noob, use the galaxy toolkit from mskip in top of development section.never tried odin's methods but works for sure (hate it,and it's very useless in a google phone like gnex.we have fastboot that is way more good and more powerfull when you learn commands to use.
If you want to only root, use the toolkit writed above.it's a easy opeartion,if anything goes wrong, you redo that without problems.before the root i think you have to oem_unlock the bootloader fisrt (always with toolkit)

Isn't Odin the father of Thor

Before you flash or root or do anything to your phone you are going to need to check the wiki's and stickies pinned at the top of each forum. You will need to determine which model of the Nexus you have, more than likely you will have the GSM i9250 version , but then there are different software versions of the Nexus, Yakju/takju etc. Once you have that all figured out make sure you read the OP for every rom you wan to flash and atleast the first and last 10 pages and you should be good. Pay special attention to the details enumerated in the OP's of each rom tho they are mostly installed in the same manner.
- Cheers

Tohno...so good to see you again. Ur the brick guy in X8 forum.
Answers:
1. To root ur phone, make sure u have all the correct drivers needed. No neednto check manufacturer code.
2. Nexus is the easiest phone to be used to flash custom rom. This is bcoz u can flash kernel just by using .zip file.
3. There is stock recovery, however, it is recommended to use CWM. U can enter recovery by pressing power+vol up and vol down together when turning on the phone, and then u can navigate through there to get to recovery
4. In scale 1-10, u pick 1 coz this is a developers phone, less worry, happy flashing.
U will get the gsm version. Most malaysians use 3g, its kinda the basic connection rite now...seriously tohno, its like 9 months since i last saw u,learn a little
Good luck with the new phone and hope u dont brick it..

Just do it manually. It's only a handful of steps, and then if something goes wrong, you'll know where it went wrong and have an idea of where to start fixing it.
There's a sticky at the top of this forum that gives detailed step-by-step instructions.

First off is the stock pc36img.img on your root of your sdcard? If so pull the battery out, put it back in and hold down the power and vol down to boot in the bootloader. you should be fine once it installs you should be back with a stock rom. If you don't have the stock pc35img.img you can get it from here http://www.multiupload.com/U27BZXVWWI.
hope this helps
http://www.multiupload.com/U27BZXVWWI
Download that, rename it PC36IMG, put it on your SD card... reboot phone into recovery(while phone is OFF, press and hold volume down, while pressing the power button), it will load, follow onscreen instructions
Have you tried using an ruu. It should be able to return your phone to stock
u should goto the androidforum and read ROOTING FOR DUMMIES thread! u will not f up your ph and it will take u 15 mins to root yah ph give or take a few!

ok guys i just picked up a play for att. sucks cause i have tmobile and wont get the 3/4g data. im almost always in wifi spots anyway so no big deal.
anyway i have already called att and got the phone sim unlocked. now if i think i understand this correctly this should be the order to follow. if you guys can confirm and provide latest links i would appreciate greatly.
1. sim unlock (done)
2. unlock bootloader (not yet)
3. root (not yet)
4. load rom (not yet)
correct??? did i miss anything? any preferred method on any of these? please advise.

Second of all, questions go in the Q & A forum.

For img flash you can use flashtool.
You don't need root or anything to use flashtool on your phone.

If you were rooted before you don't need to re-root unless you purposely unrooted it. IF you aren't rooted anymore superoneclick or the zergrush(however it's spelled) is the easiest. I'm 99% sure you don't have an unlocked bootloader though, so you have very few options. I'd say re-root if you need to and unlock your bootloader so you can flash flash and flash custom roms like crazy

You need to pay Setool credits in order to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to lose the sin lock as well, so you could have killed two birds with the same stone.

ya i just found the website. seems like thats the one everyone is sent to on this site.
im wondering now that im rooted if i can clean this stock rom up enough to use on a daily basis. i mean im using tmobile on the device so sharing internet would only be edge lol. i guess the only thing i really want ics for is that fact that its ics.
open the dial pad and use this code*#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration".
If it says unlock bootloader = no, then you have to use the paid service, if yes, then you can do it for free yourself.

Just got my HOX - what now?

Hey guys,
Before I get teared apart limb from limb, I tried searching for rooting on the new software and didn't really come up with any guides.
So, anyway. I just got my upgrade HOX in the mail, and I'm so excited! Of course, I've been on XDA before and rooted and customized and flashed to my heart's content, but I need some help.
Would someone lead me to a guide for rooting HOX on the NEW software? I just got my new kit today, I don't know if it automatically updates or not. I pretty much want to learn how to get to flashing a ROM.
Thanks!

Use it as stock for a few weeks at least to rule out any manufacturer hardware issues.
Update via the OTA check for updates in settings. (2.17 is the latest)
------
The when you want to play with custom, root of etc....
Install Android SDK
1st step is unlocking the bootloader via HTCdev
Then flashing clockworkmod touch recovery
Then flashing a rom of choice, all which have root I think.

I would actually emphasize this. So many people have had hardware issues and it will be a struggle to get the phone repaired after rooting via HTCDEV. Spare yourself trouble and give some time to rule out those problems.
Besides you can use that time to get to know the available roms, issues with them and the rooting/flashing process

It can be relocked but unlocking the first time sends HTC a notion that your device has been unlocked. And there are several people that are having a tough time getting their phones repaired even though the issues are hardware.
Depending on the country and law it is possible to force them to repair or replace a faulty device but trust me, that process will be a lot faster and simpler if you haven't tampered with the bootloader.
An irrelevant response but that's why I will always go the nexus route when buying android so I could avoid most if not all these issues.

Help with HTC One X ATT version
Hi Guys,
So I have unlocked my HTC One X ATT version using the HTCDev.com site. Now I want to install clockworkmod so I can proceed with custom ROM installations. But all the links that I find to CWM are dead.
Can someone point me to the live links please? I am itching to get the CM10 rom installed on my HOX.
Please note there are plenty of sites and links for international version of HOX but I want for ATT.

I tried CWM version but it does not work. The phone goes into loop when I try to boot it into recovery mode.
Thanks for the response though...

You'd be better off asking in the AT&T One X section of this forum. I didn't think you could even use htcdev with it.

This is what you're looking for:
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/evita/openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-evita.img
Found it through this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677447
And these are the forums where you should go for an AT&T HTC One X:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
If you have a ATT HTC One X, get off this forum, go to the proper section, and never come back here. Flashing any rom here will permanently brick your device.

This the method I used for rooting when I had 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611175
Check my signature for a link to how I rooted with 4.4.2
Depending on the version of Android you have on that phone, it will trip the Knox flag. Which won't affect the performance of the phone, but will indicate you messed with your phone. There may be other rooting methods that work, but this one worked for me.
BTW, I found that method by using Search on this forum and Google.

The safe root method is how i rooted with 4.3 but it is my understanding that you need your phone to be unlocked to use a different carrier. Unlocked and rooted are 2 different things.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Unlocked sop I can use whatever carrier I want.
Rooted Because I want control over my pohone and not somebody else saying what I can and cant do with it.
I can get it to bot in cwm recovery but thats all it won't rot the rom so I can see it its rooted or not. I followed eth entire instructions provided and used oden like it said to and all I suceded in doing was makeing a damn brick out of a phone I got to have running tomorrow morning

If you can get into Download mode (Power Off, then Volume Down+Power Button), then you'll need to download the Stock Rom and transfer it to your phone via ODIN. Do you know if you were 4.2, 4.3, or 4.42 before you bricked it? You can download the images from Sammobile.com

If you have access to ClockWork Mod Recovery, wipte the cache and dalvik and see if that lets it boot.
If not, just download a rom, any rom from the dev section that you want to try and put it on a micro SD card. Put the SD card in your phone.
Do a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) in recovery and flash the downlaoded ROM file. Your phone should boot right up.
You'll want a TouchWiz based rom if you still need to perform the SIM unlock proceedure so you can use it on the Cricket network. But once step at a time here...

If you look at my signature, you'll see that I've got a SGH-M919 also and I'm on T-Mobile with a phone purchased from T-Mobile.
I've provided links that worked for me.

Thats cause it wasn;t rooted before, hopefully it is now, cause my wife just went to Cricket to see if she can get her Iphone and mine on their network
I finally got the phone rooted but I screwed it up so bad I had to install a different rom to make it work, so not I'm roted and running wicked rom .Next I installed, updated and ran region away, it said it didn;t know if it worked or not, but I was told that it does unlock so hopefully it did.
I havea different S4 here ( SGHM919) that I'm gonna try the cf auto root on when the battery is fully charged, cause both my sons have S4's and they want to keep the rom they have now just be unlocked
If you were looking at cwm recovery then you most likely have root.

And if you don't you can easily get root with CWMrecovery
Sent from your phone. You should be more careful where you leave that thing.

When I used Region away it says somewhere that it doesn't unlock your phone to where you can use other carriers. So you might want to find out lol

Thank you gentlemen, my phone is working again, rooted, currently running wicked rom, all the other phones are rooted with the stock roms for the kiddies unless they want to have a better rom
Region away works perfectly on mine even though it says it doesn't know if it did.
I was going to use triangle away, but it says something about bricking my phone and I really don't give a damn about the counter so ........
PanchoPlanet, Google is NOT my friend when it comes to phones XDA id my friend when it comes to phones
Now to go look for the stock memo pad that comes with the S4, I like that one best its simple and works
I too prefer Memo Pad, it's quick and simple, my reference to Google was that its quicker than the XDA search and more accurate. Good to hear your back on track.

If Google is not your friend, then maybe his big brother may be - Google Advanced Search:
https://www.google.com/advanced_search
where you can seach specific sites, specific words or phrases.

I found Smemo on line, took a while since I'm on oxycodone for pain due to a hernia operateing, but I got it, placed it in eth rom and reflashed it
Now I'd love to find a theme for Wicked V10 that would change teh color of the phone dialpad, I HATE white dialers, makes me remember when I was a kid back in teh 60' when my mom had nothing but white so she could see if it was clean, and sanitized, degermed, and all that, ( yes I was an outside type, and brought it all inside )
Oh and all I can say guys, is thanks for trying to help me I WILL figure it out for the firmware and hardware and software that I have, experimenting with a phone that I totally bricked today, gotta re-instal the entire os on it, so I'm gonna experiment with various versions of the SGH-M919 software, if I find out what works on what I'll post it for you guys to check and make sure I did right

custom recovery . any source to get development updates?

Hey guys,I was wondering if theres any development blogs ,sites, that may get us an indication about what's going on with the custom recovery?
I'm looking for it now and then but all I get is antique topics about how the phone is just out to market and we should give it a month to see custom roms/recoveries .

T-Mobile is the only one with the bootloader unlocked so they have full access to using recovery and roms, I don't know if other variants are using a recovery yet since I am a vs985 (verizon) user I don't watch them closely
For vs985 we can't get into fastboot mode because verizon decided to remove or disable it, so we can't use tethered recovery (temporarily booting the recovery from adb shell)
I can tell you that Recovery's aren't hard to make at all. its just we don't have a way to use them right now &
Roms will quickly follow after Recovery's are able to be flashed

Any personal thoughts /guesses about how long will it take?
I'm really excited about it , because when I bought my g3 I left my note 2 for experiments, and hell isn't the name for what my oldie note went through.
My point is that I finally learned how to install custom EVERYTHING. from kernel to build.prop, and my hands are itchy to do the same on my g3
Unfortunately and until the bootloader is unlocked, we have to patiently wait for our great devs to unlock this retarded bootloader. It may take a couple of days, it may take a month, it may never happen. We just have to wait. Oh, and friendly advice: never ask for an ETA on xda

Very true , I'm going to get a nexus as I'm not completely convinced an unlock will come and even if it may be awhile.

jcase already found a Loki-like exploit but won't release it till he is sure a complete unlock is impossible. So, we will have an unlock and if not, then we will 100% have the exploit.

I hope that it wont take long till they find a way to unlock the bootloader. The stock rom is loaded with a lot of bloatware and lg apps that i never intend to use. I want to see how fast the g3 is on a cm 11!

no news, this are older "news". you can find them in at&t lg3 forum section with forum search.
be patient, the devs don't like to get stressed and the whole xda drama about unlock.
jcase already said he is able to run custom images but time is the problem to release it. when everyone is stressing them, they will lose interest to unlock under pressure.
when it's ready you will know it. until release be quiet please. thanks.
There's the "news"
