Hi guys. I've had this problem for some weeks now, and it's bothering me cause i didn't have this problem one i bought my one X.
When i go into and out of the camera app, the screen brightness stays set at a very high level and then drops to the brightness level i have selected. And don't even have the auto brightness on...
Does someone know how to help me? Thanks:good:

Its this way on every HTC device, its just the autobrightness readjusting
Well the camera app forces 100% brightness. Once you exit the asp it slowly returns to your normal selected value

Seriously? Lol, didn't know that, and cause i'd only noticed that a few weeks ago, i thought it was some kind of bug or something. Thanks for the replies, i'm more relieved now.
Cheers, guys.

Hi guys, i'm new here. I've actually done some searching but can't find anything related to my problem.
My brightness is set to auto. But at least once a day, i would notice that my screen is too bright. So i check my settings to see that brightness is on full.
So i change it back to auto, but after some time or the next day, it happens again.
It just irritates me because i set it to auto but the setting somehow disengages.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I have exactly the same issue. Also on 1.28

That's strange! I am also on 1.28 and never had this problem in any of my one x (I own 2 devices). If your bootloader is unlocked you could try flashing a custom rom. your problem might be gone. good luck.
I've had this a few times wondering ky my screen brightness isn't changing but since being on custom ROM I haven't has this issue.

Is anyone having issues with the auto brightness on this phone? I can be in a stationary location looking at the screen and it goes from bright to dim and back every 5-10 seconds with no change in the room lighting or input on my part. Just trying to determine if it is a hardware defect before my 14 day window closes for an exchange. Thanks.

Both GT-7000 & T889 did the same thing , thats why i disable auto option.
I just found this thread right after I posted the same question regarding auto brightness. Ooops my bad.
I guess I am not the only one having this issue. It is annoying isn't it? I had other phones that didn't do this. Now if our awesome developers can come up with a remedy or cook up a rom that doesn't do this. I'll be the the first one in line.
Glad it is not just me. It is especially worse at night, the screen goes light to dark every few seconds it actually gives me a headache. I am using Lux with adjust on wake right now. Hoping there is a fix because a phone of this magnitude should have a working auto brightness feature.

I decided to exchange mine yesterday and boy was it a good decision. The new one does NOT do this. If you are still having problems, return it if you can before your remorse Window closes. Good luck.

Hi guys m facing a strange issue. I have observed that sometimes my proximity sensor remains on. I tried to find out the app causing it by Force Stopping each app one by one but that doesn't solve the problem. .
I am not using any motion like quick glance which uses the sensor or any other app like turning the screen on off (eg smart cover etc)
only a reboot fixes this issue but after sometime (say few hours or 1-2 days) the sensor turns on. . Can you suggest me what else shall I do? coz m observing more than normal battery drain in stand by mode. . Please help!

Try turning off "quick glance" under settings--> motion.

I too have noticed it and posted it on a thread also
I also notice this..only now i came to know that it is proximity sensor..will appear as a dim red right and if it stays on, it turns off only if restarted..might be a bug..should we report it to samsung so that they will fix it in updates?
I have noticed one thing that after 2+ or more (random) days of usage if I receive/make a call the sensor doesn't turn off. .might be this is a s/w bug. .but this is what I have noticed after closely monitoring my phone. .
Sent from my GT-N7100
I've noticed this too! Didn't know the dim red light was proximity sensor. But i've noticed it only twice (with battery below 40% on both occasions).
Viber has a known bug that cause the proximity sensor to be always on. If you uses it, u need to update to the latest version i think its v2.2.3.109.

Still, I would love to see what's the cause of this and how to resolve it.

Even though I first got this proximity sensor bug after I turned on "increase volume in pocket" (only 1 time so far), I'm pretty sure it's not related, because I did a few tests and as far as I could tell the phone increases the volume based on its position (and possibly movement) in the second it receives the call. If it's vertical (like in a pocket), or on its side (like in a bag), when you get a call, it will increase the volume. If the phone is horizontal, like on a table, and starts ringing, the volume doesn't increase, and it won't increase even if you pick it up and move it around while it's ringing.
I also thought initially that it uses data from the proximity sensor, but I tested and it doesn't care if it's covered or not when the phone rings, it appears to use data from the accelerometer/gyro exclusively.
I'm try turn all motion off right now. Let see if it can solve the problem
I have the same problem.
I resolve it by pressing volume up + home + power.
Let it restart and so far after about 1mth+ did not encounter this issue any more.
Hope this help :fingers-crossed:
i have the same problem
all motions are off
and still have it random....only restart to close the sensor
If you lower the screen brightness all the way down and open the stock internet to Google, and tap the search bar to pop the keyboard up, you'll see a slight flicker. So far on every display s4 at the store has the same problem. Anyone have an idea if this is software or hardware related?

Same here. Tested and experienced no flickering issue.
Are you talking about the smearing issue when the phone is dim all the way and you have white text on black background. Text turns hazy purple when u scroll. If so this is a known issue that's been reported here already.

I've noticed flickering on super white backgrounds. It's hard to see and it's got to be the right lighting and high brightness. IMO if you need to go through a process to see a slight flicker, blobs, etc., it's not really a concern. I'm assuming it's software related.. Same with the text blur.

Well yeah thats what I mean't by flicker lol. I honestly think the oled screen samsung put in the s4 is a little faulty and they needed to calibrate it better before shipping.

mine does it... unchecking the auto adjust doesnt help.
Most users wont notice it. Hell, I myself didn't notice it until someone pointed it out on their device and I tested and saw it. OCD kicked in.
Go in any app with the keyboard popped up and go into the Sun directly hitting the screen and you will see your screen flickering endlessly no matter what app your in

When i turn off auto-adjust screen tone and auto dimmer and have the brightness up full blast cause thats the way i like it when im in a dark room the screen still adjusts brightness and bounces back and forth between full brightness and a cooler tone. Its kinda aggravating just wondering if anyone has experienced this and is there another setting im missing. Power saving mode is off too

You may want to try the Lux app, which provides you control over display brightness beyond what's normally allowed by the device's own setting.

It's gotta be software related , I wonder if a fresh flash from ODIN would fix it or if it's something Sammy Is gonna have to fix.
It's software I believe, does it happen when you have the browser open?

Don't matter what's open. My girl has an S3 and she said the S3 had an issue similar and it was tied to smart stay having trouble detecting your face and the screen would auto dim by default even if everything was turned off. I turned smart stay off and it still does it though
Have you tried turning off smart stay? Also make sure power save mode is not on with screen power saving checked.
