USB 3.0 Card Reader - General Accessories

Hello All,
I am in search for a good USB 3.0 card reader for my PC. The internal one died so I am out for a replacement.
Any advice? I prefer amazon since I have prime but I am open to ideas! I got a class 10 micro SD card and wanted to speed up transfers a little bit over wifi and usb.
Thanks!

Why USB 3.0? There's no SD card which is as fast that it would require a USB 3.0 port.
Just buy a cheap 2.0 reader and you'll be happy.
I've got the "Revoltec Procyon 1.5" and I'm really happy with it (10 bucks).
If you think it must be a 3.0, I would recommend the "Akasa USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Memory Card Reader".

Hmmm I didn't know that about the 3.0, what about the difference between classes? Are ALL card readers faster than Class 10 cards? Or do some readers give better performance?
Thanks for the reply! I am still on the fence

USB Card Reader

Hi,
Is there any usb2 flash card reader out there that is fast?
I just bouth a sandisk MobileMate SD, a very convenient little thing, but it doesn't seem to be very fast, transferring 5b takes 30 sec roughly.
Are all readers the same, or can I buy someting with some performance?
I understand there is a limit to the SD card type you use, but c'mon, 200kb/s ???
I've got one of those 6-in-one FDD size USB2 ones in my machine, and it's pretty quick. I'd imagine most USB2 ones are going to be about the same speed. Sounds like you're getting low-speed USB rates of about 1.5Mb/s
is your USB port is ver 2
even your flash reader is ver 2
but your pc usb port is not
will not be fast
correct me if I m wrong

SD Adapter SD HC?

Hi,
I just wanted to check before I buy one, can anyone who has the SD card adapter tell me if it handles SDHC cards OK as I'm looking at getting a 32gb to store music and films on.
thanks.
Well I have the usb adapter and can plug in a card reader and I use a cool little memory stick pro which has two micro sd slots in it, basically I have two 16gb micro sd plugged into a memory stick pro which turns them into one 32gb card . I bought it for my psp but through a card reader works fine with my tab
I have the Samsung USB and SD-Card adapter and it can handle my 16Gb SDHC card from my cam with no problems.

Thanks for all the replies, I've put in the order.

USB copy speed is extremely slow

USB copy speed I'm getting is max 3.2mb/s, and goes as low as 1.5, is this normal? I imagine I should be getting a lot better speeds over USB 2.0 and my SD card is a new Sandisk class 6 micro sd card.

Use the mirco SD adapter provided with Ur purchase of mirco SD card.. wire is just slow... adapter have direct contact with the hard drive.. so u would get faster transfer rate
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I'm getting 8-9mb/s reading from sd to hard drive, writing from hd to sd is much slower at 2.5 - 3mb/s. This is using the original HTC usb cable.
Mmm try with wifi, there are some usuful app for this
USB is a mystic hardware somethimes have mysterious problem :s
inviato da HTC Desire Z
I have slow speed with usb too but only with Windows. If i use linux i get extreme speed over 15 Mb/s. I don't know if Windows has any restrictions...
Yeah I would just try either Bluetooth, a microsd adapter, or Wi-Fi instead.
Adapter is usually the fastest as the reader can interface almost directly with the hardware. Over USB you have several factors to consider, the speed of the port, as well as the speed of the phone (i.e.: what Mhz is it running at... and is the phone busy with something), and the speed of the internal microSD reader and so forth.
Plugging the card into the reader would be the fastest, however not very useful if you gota turn off your phone just to get the card out.
I've never tried the Wifi app route as for me the USB route has been fast enough, but can take a couple minutes to transfer say my CWM backups from the card to the computer.

(Q) Storage solutions - any help?

Hi, I have the 16gb version of the n5 and with all the heavy games and ROM flashing I find my phone short of memory.
Firstly, I'm not really looking for cloud style solutions because for the most part, I have low signal a lot of the time. This would mean slow transfers and extra battery drainage (which the n5 really doesn't need..)
Secondly, I've been doing a little research and found that I could use otg and a USB/micro SD card.
While researching I found that I could either get a usb 3.0 otg cable with a 3.0 USB memory card or high grade micro SD card, or I could go for USB 2.0 equivalent.
The problem is, from what I've read the n5 just supports usb3.0 and is only really as fast as usb2.0. Can anyone tell me if this is true? If so, should I just get the USB 2.0 equivalent?
Any other suggestions are welcome, because I really need extra storage space.
Thanks.

I think you are referring to something like this
http://www.meenova.com/st/p/m3r.html
I have not tested it myself but it seems promising. As for your usb concern, if you are using something like the above product, the difference in usb (3.0 vs. 2.0) should not matter as they would both work fine interchangeably
Meenova works great with the Nexus 5 :good:
If you use CM then it’s natively supported without additional apps. If you use other ROMs you may need something like StickMount (and rooted) to use the USB storage.
I have a Meenova Micro SD card reader, it works great with root and StickMount.
But there is a cheaper alternative on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131063464166?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I have bought one of these aswel and it works exactly the same as the more expensive Meenova, with the additional benefit of a full sized usb on the other end.
10 times cheaper aswel.

Nice! I'm looking at sandisk micro SD cards to go with that adapter, there's a few very fast ones supporting 95mb/s! What's the fastest that n5 could handle? I'm looking at the extreme pro / plus ones here: http://www.sandisk.co.uk/products/memory-cards/microsd/
Edit: I'm rooted and running slimkat / faux kernel

Maybe do you know which one will be fitted to ringke fusion case?
Or do you have any suggestions?
may be samsung, it have usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 ver, the 2.0 using microsd and you can easily replace it, dunno about the 3.0
