Well....
I just recently got my ion, and unfortunately, when i opened a box i saw no headphones inside. i mean, sony, wft?? where are those headphones??
ion did not work with arc s headphones, and it worked as just a headphones (no mic and control) with my ipod headset. so i decided to use it meanwhile i get some nice headphones from sony or beats, but that will happen later on when i will have some extra money to spend
But something was bothering me... white headphones with black phone.. i did not like the combination, so i had to do something.
my friend was wrapping his honda car with vinyl stickers, and there were some leftovers, and they became useful. i took my phone apart and did some magic. Metal back cover was covered by tiny vinyl film and now it looks completely different :silly:
here is result
i think will have this for couple weeks, and then, once i have some idea for new headphones i will change white colo sticker to carbon fiber
Very nice! Im diggin this. I would do the same, but i currently have a white case on mine so it wouldnt matter anyways

I think he took the metal back cover out and paint it. Now i wanna make the blue version for my ion now :laugh:
You painted your phone so nicely! but the "brushed"metal look goes :l
No. He said he used vinyls stickers. Like the ones they use for car graphics. It looks sweet, but I do like the brushed metal.

for the speaker had to use tiny needle which has a bit smaller diameter that those small holes, just pierce it.
the material itself can be stretched using a heat gun, so i was able to push it inside in those camera and flash holes, and than slice it like a pizza pie
the SE logo is mounted on double sided tape, so it can be removed
the metal back is nice, but it get scratches very quickly, i already got one =( sticker has matte finish and it not slippery at all, and any time a don`t want whit i can remove and have that brushed metal back
and nooo, its not paint
Looks really good. I haven't seen that the back scratches easily, though.
I kinda have scratches on back. But I put my phone in a weird slot in my car and in all my pockets with other stuff. That phone is pretty btw

I ran into a little bit of a problem last night. I have the extended battery (extra door included) and so I thought I'd modify a little and give it a matte finish and also to try to get that ugly Verizon 4G symbol off it. So I first tried wet blasting turned down to 5 psi. because I was sure it would just eat a hole right through it but it surprisingly did not. even when we turned it up to 30 psi. it was still not affecting the texture of the battery door. So I then tried to rub it with 80 grit sandpaper by hand which has been successful but also is a lot of work for something I thought was made of plastic. Then it hit me, maybe it's not plastic, maybe it's carbon fiber. which would explain it's resistance to force. So the question is, does anyone know for sure what it is made from? I just thought it'l be kinda wild because that would definitely debunk the theory that Samsung makes their phones out of cheap plastic. also the door is extremely flexible which is another very specific characteristic of carbon fiber. Just a thought though...

I know they call it a "hyper skin" but I don't know what it is specifcally made off. I think your mad trying to get the branding off yourself. Could you not buy an unbranded cover on ebay or something. Anyhow good luck.
its common to use a sugar cube to grind branding off phones. anyway i think the cover is some new polycarbonate material like the nokia n9, samsung calls it their new hyper skin.
It's plastic.

I guess I could of bought 1 online somewhere but then where would the fun in that be? Plus i got an extra 1850 mAh battery so im not losing anything. I will say that whatever its made of is really tough stuff if it can withstand a wetblaster that we use at work to blast titanium parts. And I have never seen plastic do that. It could be Polycarbonate but we have that stuff at work and its not as flexible as this is.

Wow! Did not know that. Too bad i didnt see that before. I did the same thing to my ipod once. Just took a piece of sandpaper and sanded the metal back to a brushed aluminum finish. This didn't exactly turn out the same way.

One major flaw, it leaves the camera lens exposed so that it can be scratched every time you put your phone down. Would need a quick Sugru mod.
It looks like you could rub the logo off
i bought this on amazon for $6.99 its not bad. was kinda my last resort as i was looking for something to match my pebble blue but theres nothing out there that did so i went for utility. its definitely has more grip than OEM but not by much. its a soft touch type material. fits just like an oem though. more rigid too

Manufacturers need to make more of an effort if they insist on stamping their logos on the back of their parts? Especially when the logo looks like it was designed in about 3 minutes by a 12 year old....
O.P! Check out my camera mod! Hope this can be useful with your rubberized cover.

Got the same battery cover myself. It doesn't provide more grip in all situations, but definitely provides more "feel" and less slippery than the original one as it's not gloss. What I mean by all situations is that most of the time I don't have a problem gripping the original gloss back, but it definitely becomes harder to grip (slippery) when my hands are too dry or have a little dust/dirt on them.
Every review and picture I've seen of this case has it fitting perfectly and snuggly like the Samsung original battery cover. However, mine is a little bit off. Seems the tolerance on the tabs are just a bit off and won't fit completely on my S3. Some of the corners won't 'snap' to latch and there's a noticeable gap along the edge. Doesn't feel like it will fall off but you can see it. I ordered through Amazon and will be returning this one to them. I did order the exact same case again from Amazon to see if the tolerance on that one is any better. If it fits well, I am definitely keeping it.
The case makes the phone feel more solid. There is no give/bending/etc on it at all when pressing along the back. Again the biggest complaint is the company logo. I've remedied this somewhat by darkening the logo with some flat black paint. I used a paint pen so it was pretty simple to do without it bleeding onto the rubberized part. You could probably do the same with a Sharpie to make the logo stand out less.
Would be really sweet to get my hands on 2 covers. Any tips on how to buy them or getting them transported to sweden?
Many thanks!
looks good
I thought I had read that the ZL has a rubberized back. My C6506 has a hard plastic with checkerboard pattern. It's very slippery and kind of frustrating versus what I was expecting. Is it just a difference between models / regions / colors? I suppose just getting a case for it would fix it...
Thanks!
not slip for me...maybe your hand sweating?
me neither ..quite a good grip compared to z
Mine is very grippy, it's a hard rubber/plastic. Push down on it hard enough and it'll give like rubber.
Phone is very grippy when bare, even when my hands are dry. You might want to check out the Incipio Feather case, adds an even nicer grip to the phone (with a nice minimal protection).

I have the black version. I had read about a rubber backing, and it had me thinking it was going to be like the Nexus 7. Turns out its a hard plastic with some texturing on it. Not the same thing.
i bought the red version, i have to say i was a bit dissapointed with the material. color is great, but the material feels the same as x10 (if not, more plastic based).
What i wanted to do is get the black back when it's cheap and readily available and switch the red with the black, while retaining the red sides which are itself very elegant. hopefully i'll be able to achieve this, but until then, i am extremely happy with it.

On eBay, just search for "Xperia ZL Housing" without quotes. The package does include the middle plate as well. It's a small price to pay for having something different. Plus with the black middle as spare, if one is brave enough and take the whole phone apart, we can transform completely into stealthy black as well

Nice thanks! Good to know i have the option. i'll be keeping it red for 6 months, and then probably bulge for the black. Knowing that my x10 lasted more than 3 years, i know i have plenty of time to play with this do post pics once you're done, ill be looking forward to them.
Pics will be coming soon. My XZL arrived this week and I've been playing with it. The cool thing is that the back is easily removable. There are two screws under the sim/sd card sticker under the flap. Remove those and slowly pry open the case from the bottom. There is a bit of adhesive but once all of it is removed, I can swap back and forth between black and red at my disposal. Black phone with some red accents down the sides looks amazing. A bit like the Droid DNA but more compact and stealthy. I thought I would despise the red but the metallic finish is nice. Red and black are now equal in my eyes. I also have a white back coming originally intended for a bit of art decoration like stickers, vinyls etc but I don't think it'll work. I'll send it back to the retailer for a refund.
I was thinking of getting a leather cover for my G4.
I was wondering if it's worth the money as I have seen a lot of G4's on ebay with very worn back covers - and they look terrible.
1. Do any of the covers in different colours last longer than others.
2. Are their any colour that doesn't wear at all
3. Is there any way to protect the leather, with a spray for example?
4. How long did it take your leather back cover to start wearing away, and was it just from general use rather than a fall
5. Has anyone use the replica fake leather plastic one's from alliexpress and how were they, they look pretty bad in the pics.
Any comments appreciated.

Yeah, my black leather back is holding up nicely. My wife's grey/teal one didn't look so good: corners got scratched and darkened purely from the pocket usage. Black is the way to go (if you're getting the back cover separately).
Hi there. My brown Leather Back Cover looks like the green one from Molius. All around the edges darkened from pocket usage. But just the edges, the middle looks like the first day. Got the golden plastic one too, but dont like it.
Yeah I have the black one. Its like new as always. All the others Will of course go away after awhile. That's just the way color skins are
I agree with the other posters. The black one holds really well.

Well I just picked up a new G4. It looks from ebay that the black one is the only one that doesn't fall apart. I wonder why that is cause some of the other colors have the same texture. The non textured ones like the brown and the burgundy ones seem to be the worst. Pity as those 2 are my fav colors. Oh well, black it is then.

Exactly. Mines been beat up pretty bad. But u cant notice unless u get right up on it. I also waz able to place a wireless charging coil on it. Kinda presses up on it but still highly unoticable
Get the leather, then ...
Get the leather ... BUT ... then consider buying this item from FastTech (Chinese co.), PC + Silicone Protective Case Cover for LG G4: https://www.fasttech.com/p/5608604 - it's thin and not that noticeable and at $3.10 plus registered shipping (recommended), it protects the resale/trade-in value of your phone if and when ready as well as any fumbles when and where it lands on something and breaks your screen, etc. Worth every penny, IMO.
Cheers,
S.

Does anybody know a shop were it is possible to buy LG v20 backcovers?
I found a seller on eBay but only verizon branded. I'd like to have a clean one (LG brand is OK).
My plan is to laseringrave my own personalised theme.
So pleas give me a link.

Nillkin Frosted Shield Matte Plastic Ultra Thin Slim Light Fit Case. Check that out on amazon. It is slim, looks classy and premium.
I think the OP is referring to the original back cover attached to the phone chassis, not a protective cover or case.

For some silly reason, I wanted a pink phone (tired of black or silver). I find the brow and chin. http://www.ebay.com/itm/272609599251 , Does anybody think I can grab a Verizon LG V20 back cover, sand it and painting it a matching pink?
The verizon logo seams to be laser engraved. Don't know how far u have to sand it till its totally gone. And is the texture also the same like the backcover.
Idk how much time you have on your hands. BUT possible anodize the back door.
Thats my current project. I have all 3 main bezel parts soaking in Dye. Hoping in 3 weeks when I pull them out they were able to seep deep enough under the external anodizing seal layer (DOUBTFUL) If not then Im gonna attempt to anodize all three (Will have to replace the NFC ring on the back door). I hesitate because the sealing process requires you to boil the parts for 15 mins after anodizing, and the top and bottom bezel have plastic and I dont know the melting temp of this plastic. But only $40 project that will give me knowledge for the future.
@DarkestSpawn
I like your initiative, that's exactly the kind of thing I would try.
Experimentation is educational and fun. Even better if it's successful.
Be wary of boiling the plastic parts, they probably won't take much more than 60°C before deforming.
Good luck with your project, make sure you update here with your results.
An other user in an older backcoversection found covers without verizon logo. It has the b&o brand but this is much better then verizon

Well, soaking in dye was a negative. Tried doing a thin layer of spray paint, parts would line up right felt weird, now I have a thin vinyl skin on it. PAIN IN THE ASS to install perfectly(see attachments) in which case I didn't do it perfect. The door is ridiculous to get a good alignment. I'm gonna see with these extra useless spare painted parts if I can remove the plastic without damaging, if yes then I'll attempt the anodizing. Otherwise hoping the v30 will be spec wise way better, still metal, still a removable battery, and anodized blue lol.
Lmao!
At least you tried. The rear cover looks OK, can't really tell much in the 2nd pic.
Good luck getting LG to release a blue V30
After some talk with co-workers, I was very cautious with an exact-o knife to trim a very small hang over portion around the camera ring, finger print power ring and sides, and used the spare bottom bezel skin, Its now done very well and am extremely happy with it.
