Due to the recent quantity of repeat questions in the forum I have decided to make this guide to the Blu Kuban rom by Rujelus22. I hope to answer most of the basic questions to limit these FAQ clogging up the forum in dev. Feel free to suggest any questions I may have missed. Thanks to Rujelus22, MoHoGalore, TrayLunch, Venum, Sn1per117, Esoteric68, ThirdCoastRaised,Mark.J.Linskiy, 1brainsurgeon, and anyone else who has helped out in the Blu Kuban forum. I will be maintaining and adding to this as necessary.
For anyone looking to link on a specific issue or just trying to find a problem,I have organized the posts into sections.
Post 1- Intro and installation
Post 2- The ROM updater
Post 3- Commonly asked questions
Post 4- Current/Version specific issues
Post 5-Helpful links
Disclaimer: I am not Rujelus22. I did not create this ROM. I am more than happy to help with any issues you may have, don't be afraid to ask.
Installation
Prerequisites: you must be on a custom recovery with the ability to flash zips. Your Android version is irrelevant if you follow the steps below.
Q. How do I install the Blu Kuban?
A. This is taken from the OP. I have elaborated where necessary.
1. Download the rom and the format all x2 script. They are both available in the op here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535 Place these in the root directory of your internal storage or somewhere you can easily locate them.
2. Check to make sure your MD5 sum matches what is shown by the download link.
3. Boot to a custom recovery. It is not necessary to ODIN back to EL29 but it will not harm anything to do so. Just make sure you have a CUSTOM recovery with root.
4. Make a nandroid backup of your current setup. If desired backup your apps with an app such as Titanium Backup before changing any rom.
5. Go to flash zip from SD card or flash from internal storage depending on where you stored the files in step 1. Run the format all x2 script. This does not wipe your sd card or internal sd storage, only the system files and installed apps. Its the same as a factory reset, but MUCH safer as it will not trigger the EMMC bug.
6. Flash the Blu Kuban rom.
7. Reboot the device. This boot will take slightly longer than usual, but should not take over 4 minutes. If you do not see a boot animation by this point you may have a problem and need to start over.
8. *This step is optional.* Once the phone has completed booting, go into the system menu and select Rom Updater near the bottom of the menu. Select Put Things Back to Stock and locate and install Full ROM Part 2. Select reboot and install if it says the MD5 matches. Part 2 themes Google Talk to match the rest of the rom. If you don't use talk, you don't need to do this step.
9. Congratulations, you are now running the Blu Kuban ROM.
Q. I am already running Blu Kuban, but how do I update to the latest version?
A. Check what version you are currently on. This can be found in the about phone section. If your version is only one version old, you can update directly. (Ex: you are on 1.0.4.3 you can update directly to 1.0.4.4 If you are on 1.0.4.2 or below, you will need to perform a clean install.) You may either install the UPDATE in the op or go into the Rom Updater and select Rom then check for update and install. There is no need to wipe.
Q. A cartoon guy with glasses just popped up in my notifications, what's the deal?
A. Congratulations! You have just been blessed with an updated version of Blu Kuban. Check your Rom Updater for the download, reboot and install.
Q. I heard there is a new version, but I don't have a notification yet. Why?
A. One of two things could cause this. If you are more than one version old, you will be unable to use the updater. Perform a new install. Otherwise, you may have changed a setting in the Rom Updater pertaining to checking for new updates.
---The Rom Updater---
The heart and soul of the BK rom. Here you can customize your phone in a number of ways. Make sure you read any notes that Ruj has put in the description of the mod. They are usually very important and will keep you from messing up your phone. I will break it down by the sections of the updater.
Updater Basics
Q. Can I flash more than one mod at a time?
A. In general, yes. However if you are flashing more than one modification to a given area, it may not work. Don't try to flash a new lock ring image AND a lock screen mod that changes the secondary button. They both modify the same file and can cause issues.
Q. Ok, so how do I flash more than one mod at a time?
A. After your mod sucessfully downloads with a good MD5 you will be presented with 3 options. Cancel, Ok, and Reboot and Install. Choose cancel. Download your other mods and chose cancel on all of those. When you have finished picking them select settings-> downloaded files from the rom updater. Check all the mods you wish to install and click install. Your phone should reboot instantly and install the mods.
Updater Sections
ROM
You can update to the next version of BK rom, find the xda homepage, and donate to RUJELUS22 here.
GENERAL MODS
Various mods including removal of roaming notification, restoring stock sounds, add/remove ad blocking, disable rotation and CRT animation, charging LED mods, and change screen shot file format.
LOCK SCREEN MODS
Change your lock ring image or modify the secondary lock function. Default is camera. Currently the lock screen only supports unlock and one secondary function. If you need more, feel free to install an app such as GoLocker.
BATTERY MODS
There are several different battery display options here. The default setting for battery display is the red battery bar at the top of the screen and no clock. Image (icon style) battery indicators will not work until you install one of the options on the bottom of this page. Install your preferred combination of clock/battery bar/image battery. Then chose the image or color bar you want to use. If you wish to display a numerical battery percentage, go to system menu -> Display → Display battery percentage.
STATUS BAR MODS
Various WiFi icons and images for your notification pull down.
BOOT ANIMATIONS
Do I really need to explain this one?
LAUNCHERS
Several popular ICS launchers themed for awesomeness. Default is Apex Launcher.
ADD-ON APPS
Lots of removed stock apps and new ones too. Many have fixes to fit the theme. Note that TW widgets and some TW apps will not work unless you are using a TW launcher.
THEMED APPS
These are already baked into the rom. No need to install these unless you went back to the stock unthemed app.
KERNELS
Source based awesomeness. If you don't know what a kernel does, just keep on moving.
All kernels listed are verified to work with BK.
KUBAN KERNEL TWEAKS
You can choose various governors to tweak the kuban kernel. Don't run these with the AGAT kernels. This section is currently in testing.
MODEMS
All of the leaked ICS modems. Modem performance is very subjective and device specific. Try them all to see which works best for you.
FIXES
Most of the time this section will be empty. Any problems found that need to be addressed before the next release will have a patch placed here.
PUT THINGS BACK TO STOCK
Your lifeline in case you screwed anything up and home of part 2 of the rom install. Make a mistake changing those battery icons around? Flash back to the stock status bar here. You can also download the full version of the rom here to make it easier to come back after testing one of those “other” roms.
STOCK GOOGLE APPS
Don't like the themed GAPPS? Want the latest version that just dropped in the market? Uninstall the themed version first, then get the stock version here.
UNINSTALL APPS AND MODS
Just like it says. If you installed it in the updater, get rid of it here.
LABS
Wanna see the not quite ready for prime time stuff Ruj is cooking up? Grab it here.
INSTALLED APPS
A list of everything on your phone. Anything marked with a red ! is a system app.
SCRIPTS
Reboot your phone, refresh your battery percentage (you flashaholic!), and get log information here.
SETTINGS
Various settings for the rom updater. Downloaded items from the current session can be batch flashed here.
Miscellaneous Questions
Q. Hotmail/Exchange/Live/Some M$ based email isn't working. How do I fix it?
A. You just have to use the test server.
Put in your email address and password then choose the manual setup up button.
Select exchange
Username: (is full email address @live.com or @hotmail.com)
Password: (your password)
Server: debug-m.hotmail.com
All other boxes are left with default settings.
BTW This is not a rom issue. This is a hotmail issue, this fix should work for all roms. Microsoft is changing a bunch of stuff on their end to sell more windows phones and its not playing nice with the default options on android email apps.
Q. Why does my lock screen weather say 90° C?
A. Damn that's hot! You've got a little touchwiz issue there. Go to settings-> display-> lock screen weather settings.
Change it to celsius, turn your screen off, change it back to Fahrenheit. All better!
Q. Can I change the DPI of this rom?
A. Technically yes, but it will break theming among other things. Rujelus22 does NOT support any DPI changes and has no plans to in the future. Don't ask. Questions on this topic are usually ignored.
I've seen the custom icons in the ROM revert to the stock icons before. DO NOT USE DPI CHANGER IN THE MARKET. It will Bork your install and get stuck on the splash screen. The app of choice for this is ROM toolbox.

Theming isn't broken at all until you go past 180 (might be 190 I can't be certain right now). The only things that will be affected are the phone dialer and calculator being smaller and the market not showing some apps. The dialer and calculator you can use as is or use replacements. The market can be made to show all your apps if it eventually starts not showing them with a simple mod. I've applied that mod to the market in my mods thread/my website.

I have personally run it at 190 with very few theming issues. The only one that is really noticeable is the URL box in chrome doesn't like the non standard DPI.
Q. Why can't I read this menu/button. It just shows up as black on black.
A. This is a fairly common known issue. It is caused by app developers forcing text color. Any dark themed rom will be plagued by this. Please note the name of the app and where you are having the issue in the main thread. If there are enough requests to fix a particular app, a fix may get added to the updater.
Q. My status bar just disappeared. What happened?
A. This happens if the systemui crashes. It will come back on a reboot. Most commonly this is caused by flashing battery and status bar mods that are incompatible. i.e. flashing a battery bar and image battery, but not one of the dual battery status bars.
Q. I think I just messed up flashing a mod from the updater. It doesn't look the way it should. What can I do?
A. When in doubt, use the “return to stock” section in the updater. This will get you out of trouble 90% of the time after flashing something new.
Q. Can you add a 4g toggle on the notification pull down?
A. No, not at this time. There have been issues trying to implement this. A good workaround for this is click settings on the pull down and the 4g toggle is right there. Or use a power widget available in the Play store. When he gets it working, it will be added.
Q. Why aren't my contacts importing at all? Why is contacts app crashing?
A. Odds are you have a corrupt contact that you are trying to sync. Try to locate it via a web browser and delete that contact. They should import after that.
Q. Why is my rom updater crashing/hanging/ not displaying all options?
A. This usually happens when you have a poor connection. Connect to wifi and try again.
Q. My notification light isn't working when charging. What can I do?
A. This is a known issue. Until a fix is released you can use either Blink, or Light Flow in the Play Store.
EDIT: This has been fixed as of 1.0.4.8
Q:I can not install x program on my sdcard
A:The Rogue kernel that comes with the ROM does not allow installing to the sdcard. Unmount the sdcard and install the app.
Q:I can not update x program from the market
A:If it is a themed app. They can not be updated from the Market. They must be updated from the updater. You can also always uninstall the themed version and install the market version.
Q: Why is Part 2 so small?
A: Part 2 only contains the second part of the Talk theme. It should be small and flash fast.
Q:I downloaded something from the updater but it did not flash?
A:Try choosing the Flip SDcard name option in the Updater settings. If not all zips downloaded from the updater can be flashed manually through CWM.
Q:How do I change the keyboard?
A: Ruj removed the annoying ICS keyboard notification so to change the keyboard change it in the system menu.
Q:Is LOS an issue like on AOSP?
A:*No, no one has seen any sort of LOS with this ROM.
Q:What modem comes with this?
A:None. Your current modem will be retained. All Modems can be flashed after the ROM install from the updater.
Q:Will you theme Facebook?
A:No, Facebook is to time consuming, It will not be themed it anymore.
Q:My battery life is not that good.
A:Check to see if anything is stuck running in the background. This ROM has shown great battery life. Check out some of my links in the next post. They can really help with battery life.
Q:Will you offer more colors?
A:No, It takes forever to theme a whole ROM. There is so much changed theme wise I will not be making other colors. Themers are more than welcome to have a shot at it.
Q: Can I install a different font?
A: Yes. ROM toolbox isn't recommended. The best way is using flip fonts. Ruj has a repository of fonts here in apk format. Just download and install.

1.0.4.9 & 1.0.5.0
Both of these builds require a full wipe on install due to major system file changes. Follow the install instructions for a new install, not an upgrade.
Issues in 1.0.4.7
Anyone that uses the touch sounds option will notice the clicks aren't working properly in this version. Check the fixes section for a keyboard fix.
Issues in 1.0.4.5
Some users were reporting slow charging rates. There is a new version of the Kuban kernel in the updater that addresses this. Please download and install.
Issues with current version 1.0.4.4. Keep em coming guys.
Q: After updating to 1.0.4.4 Gtalk keeps freezing and crashing on me. It worked fine in the previous version. How can I fix it?
A: Talk 1
Talk 2
1. Remove all talk and data (everywhere) /data/app/ /data/data/ /system/app/ and reboot.
2. Talk should now be gone not even showing up (If it is there is something you did not remove)
3. Flash Part1 of Talk. (Reboot and you will have the half themed talk)(But it will work)
4. After you have Part 1 working Flash the second part to update to 4.0.4 and to finish theming.
If that does not work then I have no idea what you did and I would do a fresh install.
Various links and awesomeness.
Good explanation of governors and what they do.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
I posted this info in another thread asking about bad battery life and find myself linking people to it all the time, so I am just going to repost it here.
I work at a battery shop. Granted its mostly car batteries, but deep cycling any battery is hard on it. Personally I avoid going below 10 percent if I can help it. That being said, I wouldn't throw it on the charger until around 50 percent. Every battery has a limited number of cycles. So unnecessary charging will reduce battery life as well.
Constantly reversing current flow is almost as bad as draining it completely. Fast charging is also bad news. The slower you can charge any battery, the better. So steer clear of any chargers or apps that promise shorter charging times. They will just generate more heat. And as we all know a hot battery is a bad battery. I actually mount my car dock right next to my vents so I can keep it cooler as it charges. I use an OEM Motorola charger because it controls the voltage. My old moto back flip wouldn't work with a generic charger that didn't have this voltage control. Now I won't use anything that doesn't have it. Got it on amazon for 6 bucks.
Yes I know a lithium ion battery is not the same as a car battery, however all batteries work on the same premise, just different chemical makeups. I've seen batteries explode, catch fire, and boil themselves dry. A swollen battery is extremely dangerous even at these low currents and voltages. Any swelling OR becoming concave means get yourself a new battery.
(someone then asked about battery dropping 20% after a reboot)
Battery can drop significantly on a reboot. It does not necessarily indicate a problem. I've lost 40% before on a reboot. However the length of life was still roughly the same. In fact I actually saw battery percentage rise 2 - 5 points an hour for 4 hours before. Getting the exact state of charge for a specific battery at a specific point in time requires a little guess work. The amount of guessing is reduced when there is a constant in the equation (remaining on for a while). Rebooting takes all the consistent data the computer has and throws it out the window. You can't accurately tell the state of charge by voltage alone, but that is the only data Android has to work with. So it has to compensate as best it can.
To continue the car battery comparison:
A fully charged car battery will read 12.6V. A reading of 12.3V will equate to roughly a 60% state of charge. In order to get a more accurate reading we use a hydrometer to pull the acid on each individual cell. If the battery just came off a charger it could read over 13V. However if one of the six cells is bad it will reduce the total voltage of the battery by 1.5V. This will come close to that 12V reading. By checking the individual cells I can determine the battery is in fact bad. But merely checking the voltage, one might think it is just discharged. This is the limitation Android cannot overcome. Now if you think of the phone battery as only around 3v (I forget the exact spec) divide the above numbers by 4. That .3V difference at 60% just became .075V. As you can see, it won't take much to get an inaccurate reading.

wow nice job RP, and anyone who hasnt tried it yet, this rom is remarkable, there is nothing like it for this phone
Glad you guys like it. I spent the last few days reading every post from the last month and a half just to make sure I didn't miss any of the common questions. Stole a little of Ruj's original FAQ, (got the OK first of course) but for the most part its all brand new. Now we just have to hope the noobs start reading it. Split it into seperate posts so everyone can link to the appropriate section. I may not dev, but I can train dammit!
Very nice
You might want to add a little more to the dpi section. Theming isn't broken at all until you go past 180 (might be 190 I can't be certain right now). Maybe you can add the visual voicemail issue too. Maybe provide a link to the updated stock visual voice mail app. I know some people don't use google voice.

I remember seeing that a few days ago, but didn't take note of whether a fix was made. I don't use VVM. I only use Google Voice. Shoot me a link to the post and I will get it in there. Post 4 is going to become the current version issues section.
Also I added snipers post about the dpi changes to the appropriate section.

Hi everybody, I have been closely following the ICED GLACIER ROM development thread since it was started. I know there is a consistently growing number of people who have just purchased their myTouch 4G phone (android noobs and vets). The ICED GLACIER ROM thread is getting really large, and I am sure the thought of reading through 1,600+ posts can potentially be a little overwhelming and very time consuming. I know everyone is really excited to try that AWESOME ROM, but I also see in the thread that everyone wants to know what works, what doesn't, how to fix this, etc... I'm hoping that people with questions about this ROM can look here for an answer before asking questions in the other thread that have already been answered along the way (sometimes many times). I hope this will help the devs too- if we can provide info and answer questions about everything that has already been answered in the other thread then we can get rid of repeat posts of questions and problems that are cluttering up the other thread- meaning it'll hopefully be really easy to narrow down current hiccups or problems people are experiencing. If anyone can contribute to this thread, it would be greatly appreciated!
*Flashing- When I first flashed this ROM, Iced Glacier was at 1.0, first I flashed V0.5, then V1.0. With V1.1, you no longer need to flash V0.5 or any other version first- you can go from stock rooted to V1.1 (make sure to make a nandroid backup first!!!). If you are not sure how to flash this ROM, or how to root your phone- you WILL find answers by reading through some of the other threads in this section. *It looks like a few people have had problems when/ after flashing this ROM due to not completely wiping the phone in different versions of this ROM- you might want to do a complete wipe just to be thorough (I'm no expert, it's just a suggestion to hopefully save you any headaches down the road)
*Overclocking- Make sure to install/ purchase SetCPU, so you can tweak the processor speeds. If you are not sure what SetCPU is, or how to use it- do some studying first. It has been noted that each of our phones responds differently with the different speed settings- I have noticed, that when I have my phone set too high it freezes (particularly while I'm surfing using Dolphin HD), and I have also noticed that I get better performance (and Quadrant results) when my max speed is set at 1440 mhz as opposed to 1382 or 1497mhz. Again, every phone will respond different. Play with the different speeds and see what works best for your phone- everyone can make recommendations (i.e. lower clock speeds with the screen off, battery low, or temp too high), but in the end you have to find what works best for you. I would recommend that you use the 'on demand' option instead of 'performance' to avoid having your phone constantly working at the highest set clock speed though, and don't forget to set different profiles (i.e. screen off, temp too high, battery low...). Remeber, this will affect your battery life, along with a million other variables related to your phone, so make note of before and after results to find a good balance between speed/performance and battery longevity to your liking.
*Apps and Data before flashing the ROM- install 'Titanium Backup' (I recommend purchase as well to support the creator) and batch 'backup all of your apps and data' (run the batch 'verify backup' afterwords to make sure you have a good backup to restore after installing this ROM). I had problems with my backups, so after I flashed V1.0 every time I tried to batch 'restore all apps and data' my phone would reboot, in the end I went through my backup and individually restored data (and app if it was missing) for all of my apps- time consuming, I know, but it was worth it to have this ROM (note: I was using the free version of TB- I now have purchased the app, but haven't had to use it yet for a full batch 'restore').
*Once you have installed the ROM- open 'rom manager' and execute 'fix permissions'. Do this first, as it will likely fix force closes or the 'instant close upon starting the app' that sometimes happens, before you experience them. After running 'fix permissions'- power down, pull your battery for a couple minutes, and then restart your phone (I suggest this, because I had an 'instant close' problem with wi-fi calling and power down + pull battery fixed it for me). You will also want to check to make sure your wi-fi is functional-if not Gr8gorilla has a fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9328350&postcount=1
*Test a flash website on your browser- if it does not work, you likely have to install flash from the market. If it does work- you should be good.
*Bluetooth- If you use bluetooth for calls, it should work fine (I use bluetooth for making calls and have had no problems with V1.0 or V1.11). However, if you use bluetooth for stereo music (A2DP) I understand that it does work with V1.0, but not on V1.11. I have noticed that when I have bluetooth turned on and try to dial a number on the stock dialer- it is very very sluggish to dial the numbers (ex. I press a 5 on the dial pad and wait about 2-3 seconds for the number to light up, sound the DTMF tone, and provide the haptic feedback). I have since switched over to using the 'atakephone' app and have had 0 problems. ***The devs are aware of the bluetooth issue, and plan to include a fix in the next update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9684992&postcount=1577 *EDIT*- bluetooth fixed in ROM V1.1.2
*Genius/ Handsfree- there have been issues with this not functioning properly or not at all. Again, this will be fixed in the next update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9684317&postcount=1573 *EDIT* Fixed in the V1.1.2 update!
*YouTube app- I would say it's not usable- it starts 'turbo scrolling' when I use it- it will sometimes stop if you hold your finger on the screen, but revert back when you take your finger off. This ROM is based off of the original MT4G kernel and I think I read somewhere that the version of this youtube app associated with the original kernel had this bug. Goolge released a new version of the youtube app yesterday (12-8-10)- since I installed that update, I no longer have problems in the app. *EDIT* See *RECAP- KNOWN ISSUES below.
*MMS- looks like some are having problems sending and recieving MMS messages- it might be a problem with the phone rather than this ROM (I am getting a replacement because my phone has that problem). Depending on who you talk to at Tmo customer service, they will confirm it as a known issue with the 4G. Make sure to do atleast a handful of tests sending and recieving with your phone before and after flashing. *EDIT*- some people (myself included) noticed that when using the stock messages app, contacts pictures don't display- looks like there are 2 fixes, 1 being a FULL wipe and fresh install of the ROM or 2- clearing cerain contacts cache settings as Notxel21 posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9706457&postcount=1653
*Bloatware- this ROM has the original bloatware apps removed. The Monopoly demo, demo video, Rock Band Demo, etc. are gone (as well as some other stuff that I forgot to mention- which is proof that it wasn't needed in the ROM anyway ).*** A 'spare parts' app was added for tweaking window animations and viewing battery stats. A 'dsp settings' app was also added to allow equalizer settings for the phones earpiece, external speaker, and the 3.5mm headphone port (really sweet btw!). I had to reinstall 'superuser', 'rom manager', and titanium backup from the market after flashing. The market still works for me after flash without any glitches fwiw.
***Updates- they will come when they come, theres no need to ask about it every day or so. The easiest way to check for yourself is to open the Iced Glacier ROM thread and look at the changelog in post #2- the devs have been faithful to update that post whenever they release a new version. (You can also look through the first post, but the second is cleaner as they put the newest changelog right at the top of the post) *EDIT*- Version 1.1.2 released
*RECAP- KNOWN ISSUES-- Youtube- no worky until you update in the market *EDIT* some are having problems with the youtube app in the 1.1.2 version- looks like it works fine until you use the app in landscape and try to return to portrait- the display returns to portrait, but stays stretched out for widescreen.
*Themed vs. Unthemed- I tried themed first in V1.0- I switched to unthemed and currently use V1.11 unthemed. I only used the V1.0 themed version for about 15 minutes, so I can't really provide any info on it aside from intense screen transition effects and alot of blue/black icons. V1.0 unthemed appears just like stock (if you don't like the HTC sense, you can use launcher pro, ADW or a list of other homescreen replacements). V1.11 Unthemed looks just like stock, but the drop down notification bar is transparent, and the icons at the top are colored with a circle battery meter that shows the battery % in the middle (very cool). There are other notification icon options available in the themes and apps section of this MT4G forum if you want to try something different, but I think you will lose the transparent drop down if you flash a different bar.
*There are also some other issues that seem to be random- someone is having problems with wifi not working at all, someone having problems with the 'media room' app, etc... to my knowledge there is currently no resolve for these problems.
Hope this helps! If anyone has anything to contribute, please let me know, and I will try to update this OP, so all the help stays in one common place.

Excellent, thanks! I just threw it together on 'notepad'...never gonna do that again- no formating sucks lol
1.1.2 is up now.... in case you didnt see lol..
No DSP manager in this one, didnt look to see if it was in 1.1.1. Also, Wish Meltus Audi hack worked for our phones.

lol, Yeah, 1.1.2- go figure, just as I got done typing this out I logged in to the forums here to see that. I've never heard of Wish Meltus Audi- I'm gonna do a search.
EDIT: Found it- Meltus' Audio Hack- that would be cool!

OK, how do I move it, or do I have to request it be moved?
I guess it probably could be closed anyway since IG is now at 1.1.2. Gotta love the speed of development!

Hey, thanks alot, that goes a long way! Since IG has been updated I will continue to keep an eye on it and update this thread accordingly. I plan to work on that tonight.
No Bugs in Mine
I have noticed none of the above mentioned bugs you claim. Youtube works fine, and so does Genius button. According to information I have gotten from others on IRC, the only bug is BT stereo, which I do not care about to be honest. I recommend the non-themed version.

Your fortunate. Not everyone has experienced all of these bugs, I'm just posting what I have read about in the IG ROM thread as well as what I have experienced. As far as the non-themed version, it's my fav. Just got my replacement phone and looking forward to flashing IG 1.1.2, but first I'm gonna play catchup in that thread to see if I need to update this one yet.

Duplicate Ringtones and Notifications
I am not sure what happened but all of a sudden I see two of each ringtone and notification. They seem to work properly but not sure why they are showing up twice. I added a few new ones to /system/media/audio by hand. Wondering if this has been tested by anyone else. I do not have any in /sdcard since I thought that could be problematic.
=====================
Update: I fixed this issue by creating directories on /sdcard/media/audio as follows but empty folders:
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
Also according to Zinx: Any folders on the /sdcard named notifications or ringtones will be found regardless of subdirectories...thus I think that may have been the entire issue I was seeing.
Everything looks about right

I'm glad you were able to fix it! I had that same problem shortly after I got my phone, but it was with alot of my pictures as well. I ended up searching my sdcard from my computer for *.mp3 and *.jp to find all of the duplicates.

Was that through Clockwork- when you choose the reboot option after flashing? When you power down, do you have to pull your batt before you can restart your phone again? I know that the first time I flash a zip through clockwork, when I select reboot- there is a longer delay than if I were to execute that command without flashing any .zips.
Nice thread, should really help. I really wish someone had a list of the bloatware that was removed from it though, I used more of it than I didn't. There might be something removed that I might need someday.
I've been using the S2 for a couple weeks now and although I'm satisfied with it for the most part, I want the bloatware gone and I want it rooted. Easy enough, except for one thing; there are TONS of ROMs for it and I have no idea where to start as far as which ones are best, and don't want to have to flash dozens of them to find out.
A few things to note;
1 - I'm looking for ease of use, something that includes minimal apps or at least allows me to delete apps that are packaged with it if I don't want them, and something that gets good battery life. I read this thread here and may try Slim Beam Unofficial due to it's better battery life.
2 - Or is there a way to just rip the stock ROM off, remove what I don't want, re-package it and flash it back to the phone? That's what I did with my Evo but it's been over a year and I was VERY familiar with that phone and what tools to use for such tasks. A point in the right direction (ie: link to an informative thread on this subject) would suffice, but specific replies are very much appreciated.
3 - Useful apps would be nice. Perhaps not packaged WITH the ROM but just names of useful apps (I see Titanium Backup mentioned a lot on here) would be helpful. Something to easily copy contacts & texts/call records to my PC would also be nice - the Evo didn't have much as far as that went, at least not that I could find. Maybe some music mixing apps and memory editor suggestions too. This phone is new and exciting to me, capable of WAY more than my old Evo 4G. :victory:
4 - HTC and Samsung have much different interfaces. HTC's was more customizable...I'd like to get that back. Anyone know of any HTC interface ports? Specifically the way the icons on the screen are - I don't like being forced to keep the 4 it came with on the bottom, I'd like to change them to something more useful. Also some switches for a quick data network toggle (not by going into Data Usage to toggle) and stuff like that would be nice. I can do it the Samsung way if I have to, but HTC's interface was more user friendly for me.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back at xda. Thanks for any help/suggestions! :fingers-crossed:
Try AOKP 4.2.2
AOKP B5 3/10nightly NOS V0.0.7
Suppose I'll try that or a stock Samsung ROM. Surprised at the lack of replies and suggestions...usually everyone has something to say on this forum.
Cl3kener AOKP 1.3 is very good. Has good audio apps, and several built in useful apps.

I don't know anything about CM or AOKP roms cause I need Wi-Fi calling so I stick with TW. Ptmr3 has some good roms and puts out loaded and stripped roms. I'm full of great idea's, but don't have the time to create them or learn the coding to create them. If you want to make one of my ideas a reality just message me and I will give you my idea as specific as possible.
ideas:
-launcher/lock screen
-line rider type game where you control the character
-2d fighting game like art of fighting for the SNES
-multiplayer fps where you create your own map with a creative mode (minecraft style)
-roller coaster tycoon style game
-get phone out of sleep mode
-many more!
Just message me which idea you want info on and I'll tell you!

In reading your post it seems as if to me 1 you need to simply root your phone. From that point forward you can do anything you want to it. Now coming from an Evo which I myself came from, at first things seem different but when its software related its relatively all the same. I know you said you were shocked at the lack of responses but I think thats because your questions/feelings are a simple fix and more personalized than just sending you somewhere.
You dont have to use the 4 at the bottom they can be switched and data toggles are all over the web. Not for nothing but you really need to do some homework on android and the amount of customization apps out there...You are missing out on quite a bit
Steps to personalizing your phone below:
Root your phone
Install Root Explorer
install Titanium Backup
Install Android Commander on your pc (if you like)
Just use Google or Google Play to look up apps
Hundreds of way to simplify your rom and I only named a few.
Use the SGS2 toolkit, install a custom recovery, and root your phone. From there you can delete all the Tmo bloatware and clean up the stock rom.
see how that is for a little while, and if you still aren't satisfied, you can try some of the other roms in the dev section.
As far as apps, I have all my contacts in gmail, which automatically syncs to my phone. Airdroid is a neat app that lets you manage stuff on your phone through a PC that is connected to the same network. Evernote, quickpic, photoeditor, titanium backup, and google drive are a few apps I always install.

All Star Devs or Jedi Knight Roms. I ran Slim Bean for a little bit, but the bugs, as insignificant as they may seemed, would occur too frequently. I'm currently testing out Jumping JellyBeans and lets just say I'll be flashing back to Jedi Knight this evening. Good luck on your ROM Quest.
Yeah I rooted it but it still doesn't function entirely the way I want it to.
In using this phone for a couple weeks now, one BIG complaint I have is the clock & weather widget on my Evo allowed me to check the weather OR change thje time/date/alarm simply by clicking it...unless I'm blind, the SG2 didn't even come with an alarm clock, let alone a way to click the clock widget and edit alarms.
Is there anything like that for the SG2? And yes, I do need to do more research and find out what's out there...which is kinda why I'm asking here instead of spending countless hours which I don't have, reading through tons of forums and trying tons of bunk apps. Anyway, thanks for the advice, it's been helpful so far!

You could always flash a better rom that is newer, like others have suggested. Any rom with ICS or above will have a clock that allows you to tap the widget and get the alarm, and can display the weather below it. If you're looking for a fully loaded rom, "PACman" (see the link in my signature at the bottom of this post) is the way to go. It it 3 roms built into one, "Paranoid Android, AOKP, Cyanogen Mod". I literally bought my SGSII just to be able to use the PACrom, (I came from a Tmobile MyTouch 4G (Doubleshot) which didn't have a working PACman rom link, so far as my patience to find one allowed).
Other options are to install a new launcher for your phone, like the "Go Launcher" from the play store, or an htc clock widget from the playstore or online. Either of the 2 will instantly provide you with your clock and weather settings.
I have world weather clock widget on my lockscreen. Has weather and time. I think there might be a way to configure it to set alarms, but I'm not sure. I don't really ever set alarms on my phone.
I am using JB 4.1.2 with build Jedi Mind Trick JB2 and the beta kernel as a DD and it is fast and smooth. Prior to I was using Jedi Mind Trick X4 by the same dev and I prefer JB 4.1.2 over the X4 but everyone is different.

First off, kudos to Chilly for allowing me to use JB on my Dinc2. Thought I was going to be stuck on CM7 until an upgrade. Now, maybe I can use the upgrade so the teenage daughters will have fancyphones (a bill with four smartphones would be an ugly thing, though).
I flashed the newest PAC3 and wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing any of the few bugs I've run into (I first just updated, saw some of these problems so I wiped and installed, but they persisted).
1. SystemUI crashes: I saw a mention of this on the development thread, but it seems isolated? On that thread it was mentioned that it would restart, but mine doesn't always restart (or, at least, restart quickly). It seems like it will restart when there is a new notification, but not always. No particular pattern to when it crashes, either. I didn't have this problem on the May builds.
2. It seems like there is a longer-than-usual lag after disconnecting from WiFi before it picks up mobile data. Again, not something I noticed on the earlier builds. I use Tasker/Profile4Tasker with the CM profiles, and I thought it might have something to do with that, but I've got it set now so that all profiles allow mobile data.
Other than some general lagginess at startup on some apps, everything else seems to be working. The SystemUI crash is the biggest hurdle; it basically renders the phone unusable until it decides to restart or I reboot.

System ui is just the status bar and such nothing terminal or anything and yeah no telling when it will happen or what triggers it. I use a different launcher than trebuchet like apex or at times nova which helps semi with the lag. another way is also trickster mod from the play store to OC the kernel and apply at boot or even the "other" kernel thats floating around.. hey our phones ain't young anymore things slow down as we get older so will our phones... Yeah thanx to @chillybean our phones are Jelly Beaning like a boss

It feels better back like the first day I got it. My phone before the ota was a lot slower. I did benchmarks a couple weeks before the ota and my numbers seemed weirdly low, like sequential read was 5mb now it's 26, I'm guessing that's trim doing it's job? One thing I don't like is that we can't swipe between tabs in settings, it never bothered me in phone since I didn't make calls daily, but I go to settings multiple times a day and I keep trying to swipe. Maybe I'll get use to it. Also I love the new lockscreen (I use a pin setup) it's cleaner and with the xposed module we can choose our own lockscreen widgets.

Yea seriously mods stop merging these threads all the time. Not everything needs to be consolidated into one thread. You are actually making it difficult for users to find answers to questions when you try to force ALL the info into one thread. A better idea would be to leave a poll that asks if the current thread should be merged, left as is or deleted. That way its not just you guys randomly deciding what is important and more us users making the judgment call.
Thanks!

Things I've noticed:
1. Apps update and open faster
2. LTE seems faster
3. Slighty more and quicker battery drain (using ZeroLemon battery)
4. Can now close all instances of stock browser windows completely (no window left open)
5. Stock 4.3 ROM seems to take up about 200-250MB more RAM
6. Ability in Task Manager to "launch by default" function; helps apps from asking you each you time you use them which other app you want to open them with (eg. Gallery, Photos, Skype, Internet, etc.)
7. Ability to change size of text in text messaging by using up or down volume button
8. Additional folder under /storage called "emulated" -- don't know anything about Android OS, but appears to be duplicate prior operating environment under 4.2.2, and takes up about 2.11BG of space in System (internal) storage.
I am getting Internet errors and having display issues now.

This guide was designed for S10 series, but the majority of the Guide of course is applicable to all android Pie devices as if based on apks and adb debugging, you shall test at your own desire. For adb debugging to be enabled, go to: About Phone > built number > tap until you unlock "developers option" go back and and inside "developers options" enable "adb debugging" from there.
First and foremost, I would like to express how I am amazed with the level of customization you can do without root on a Samsung nowadays, as I've been an android/samsung user for quite some time its really something to consider.
Okay, now lets cut the chase. What I really did is to put together different applications, tips and miscellaneous information together in order to achieve what I felt the most customized Device possible without root and that I think lots of users could still absorve all or at least part of this guide in their own devices.
1) First, what I did what to go through the Battery Optimisation Guide by @Corv0, which honestly speaking led me to an average of 9-10 SoT.
1.1 Even though people talk alot how they liked OneUI I cant change from Nova Launcher, its simply the ultimate Launcher experience. I recommend getting the prime version, totally worth it and you get it for life.
1.2. If you are used to Adway, you know we can't live anymore without it, but in times without root, Blokada is for me the best alternative. I also found it better and more stable than Adhell and does not need key update every now and then, thats lame!
2)If you like music and once used Ressurection Remix roms, you must have fallen in love with Pulse music bar. It simply reinvigorates the navigation bar. As an alternative I must suggest the well known Navbar app. For me its a must to change navigation bar color and enable their music visualizer.
3) If you once used xposed in a samsung, you might remember the Samtweak, and now you can have it in Pie without the need of root with great function like 180 degrees reverse (which I find very useful when using headphone jack so it does not bother you against the chest for instance), volume warning, navigation and status bar hide, etc
4) Another must in S10 plus is to use Button Mapper. Some may talk about Bixby Action app, but Button mapper is the ultimate deal with many more options, check video link.
5) Okay this is more of a personal preference, which is my case I can say: sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. If you didn't like/ didn't get used to the front camera cutout I strongly suggest to use Status Bar and change status background color to black. I find it do the job of hiding the front camera pretty decent and improved a lot indoor and low light experience as you cant see the cutout almost never.
6) Last (so far) but not least important, if of course the installation and usage of Nice Lock (for the ones without access to Good Lock). I think we may can it as an official customization app for samsung devices. It almost made me remember Rice tweaks app. I personally like to use 7.1) Task Changer mod to change recent apps back to vertical. 7.2) Navistar to fully customize the navigation bar with different icons and 2 more buttons. The rest I didn't really use it but I suggest you install them all and see what's useful to you.
I will record a video and post it here (probably tomorrow) to show all these changes and tweaks I did and how they actually appear on my device.
------- v2 (April 26th):
Actually these are "tweaks" I had already done before v1 but simply forgot to mention on the original post however to keep things in order I will continue the numbering:
7) Bloatware removal, this is another must you have to do, specially when talking about samsung, with is known for the amount of apps its included from stock. And within this link you can easily do it through adb shell. Big thanks to @Neo3D for this amazing guide.
7.1) Once you "debloat" your device, make sure you deinstall/deactivate youtube standard version as well, and install the well known and amazing Youtube Vanced (Non Root version of course). In addition, set it as standard so it will be fully integrated to the links.
Well those are my suggestions for the customization of s10 without root (so far). If you have more tips please comment down below.
Video is up, check comment for exact cue by "tweak": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_giH6O6-Pdo
Great guide for the S10 XDA gang! Kudos

Doesn't bloat removal cause more battery drain? I mean when the phone tries to find a certain package and cannot it is starting to heat up and etc
I started out early in the process and I was able to get Adhell running .... Seems like maybe my battery was worse after Adhell. Wondering if you guys thought, based on this guide, I should get rid of Adhell and go more this direction (for ad blocking and app/bloatware freezing) ?

I tried both and found blokada much more stable. You can try and compare yourself, its way easier to install and get it running as well.
Also, using Blokada and it works well...
