N00b question. - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi, this is a n00b question..... To update a rom do I have to reset everything again? Cause I currently have cm 7.2 by phiexz and to update the rom I don't want to do a reset.... I already have the rom I only need the new things.

If you are going to install newer phiexz rom you don't need to wipe.
But if you install another rom (cm9 or cm7 not from phiexz) you need wipe.

Yes a newer version from phiexz. So I need only to flash the zip and everything is done? No need to wipe anything?

Yes, no wipe needed when just upgrading. You can actually upgrade from cm7 to cm9 without wipe

[Q] Gio AllReset (Nuke?)

Hi! I have a question. Is it possible to make some kind of super reset to Galaxy Gio so it will look like out of the box if i need to take it back to the shop? I hope some one can answer my question.
W/ best,
Jyrx.
Factory reset - resets all to default.
Clear cache, dalvik etc, then flash a stock rom if you have flashd roms before, delete superuser.apk if you had root acces ... Stock rom flash required if you used clockworkmod recovery and custom roms or boot.img..

Yes , if you flash a stock rom via odin, you can see ut also writes recovery.rfs or something like that.

Flash an official firmware by ODIN and your phone will be like first time - Stock Recovery, no root, etc.

[Q] Help: Which CWM to flash?

Hi guys, i want flash Cyanogen Mod 7.2 on my phone, but I need Clockwork Recovery Mod First. In the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650), under 5.0.2.7, there is options for either ext4 or ext4+rfs. I am currently using stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread, which one should i use?
Ext4 + rfs
Sent from my GT-S5660
Thank you very much! If i may ask, what is the reasoning behind that? Also, i am looking to install Cyanogen mod 7.2. Should i install the ext4 formatter? It says
"If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. Otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem!"
Does this apply to me?
Its for newer version of CWM wich is under construction, I flashed from stock but extformatter isnf needed

I flashed from stock also, but alway get stuck at backing up cache
I managed to make a backup ones, but that one had hash check errors.
I asked a couple of times in the original thread, and even pm'ed Phiex.
But it seems I'm on everyones ignore list

Try to roll back first to ginger and then flash it again start from flashing cwm, i recommend using phiex rom, it's stable and not too difficult to flash

Already tried that.
I went from 2.3.5, S5660OXXKS2 which had WiFi (baseband) problems to Russian S5660XXKS5

I know how to flash a custom rom, but I really don't want to flash it yet, because I'm (patiently ) waiting until CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0-GT-S5660-GalaxyICS-KANG-beta5 is ready.
And I agree that would probably fix it, but only because the system partition get's formatted to EXT4.
I just want to be able to backup my rooted RFS stockrom before flashing a custom rom.
PS.
Sorry for hijjacking this topic, didn't mean to do that.

GS2 ICS

Hello All,
im running a 2.3.6 rom , but i would like to run an ics rom. my question is, do i have to go back to stock and update or can i just flash the ics rom? any help would be great, thanks.
you can flash an ICS ROM. Just make sure you first flash a compatible modem, and do a complete wipe using darkside wipe and darkside cache wipe. Dont restore data either.

[Q] cmw

hey everyone
is there a way to do all those cool thing you guys talk about WITHOUT using cmw? because my last gio crashed while flashig it with the android third recovery and i had to buy a new one...
what do you want to do? you can't flash custom roms with the stock recovery. you cant do backups. you can only wipe data with the stock recovery (and flash zips)
and btw if you want to flash the cwm recovery DONT use rom manager (or whatever the app is called)
are you sure?
totally brick while u flash CMW??

Dude 1 of the most important requirements of rooting and using other custom rom is the CWM!

[Q] How to install Cyanogenmod 9/10?

I flashed CWM 5.0.2.x ext4+rts with Odin, I did all wipes and flashed Cyanogenmod 9 successfully.
But, when I reboot phone it just gives always me "Encryption unsuccessfull".
