IThe volume is to low now for my bluetooth stereo headphones. How would I increase the gain in the ROM.I am not talking the slider in the sound menu.In the past on other phone you could hack certain hexidecimal values to increase the volume. I have know idea how to do it with this phone, or the Android OS. It would help out a lot since I listen to a lot of music through bluetooth in my cars also. .Also with this ROM I can not flash a boot animation, I was able to flash a new splash screen though. I know I am asking a lot, but this place is the best, and I know that you have the answers.
Thanks in advance recently unlocked and rooted my HTC Evo 4G and installed the htc_supersonic-ota-eng.deck-pb25.zip ROM. It works beautiful.

Ok, we have some smart people here at XDA-Developers so why has no one been able to come up with a hack for the low volume on many of these units? The SX-56 has really good volume in both the earpiece and the speakerphone but it seems all other HTC units do not!
When using the media player the volume on the speaker is adequate (not great); however the same speaker as a speakerphone can barely be heard unless one is in a quiet room. The earpiece volume is terrible in a noisy environment. If you compare this to almost any tiny phone it sucks to put it bluntly. Take my LG 4500, it is so loud that you have to turn it down (this is as it should be).
From what I have seen, changes in the ROM can effect the volume so this tells me that there has to be some value stored away in a .dll that limits the max volume. I have searched for a registry value but none seems to solve the problem. The same hardware used for Media player has to be used for everything else, i.e. amplifier and speaker for spearkerphone and just switched to earpiece when in normal phone mode. Thus the amplifier is capable.
Can someone identify the .dll used for audio? Is it different for the various models? Does one work better than another? Is there a hacked version that would work better than all of the others? Is it in the volume control .dll?
Anyone that can solve this problem will be a hero in my eyes and a true hacker in the best sense of the word. I have the new HP IPAQ HW6510 (also made by HTC) and it has some improvements in the version of Windows it has, such as the Bluetooth stack really seems to work well; however, since the unit supports Bluetooth 1.2 I'm not sure whether it would work with version 1.1 phones.
Thank you for any help you can provide. I searched the site first and found many other complaining but no solutions.
Doesn't anyone have a clue? Is there anyone that can explain the workings and which .dlls do what relative to audio? Surely there is some bright person that has been able to figure this out.
pda2k user here. NEVER had volume problems. lucky?
Hi all
One minor issue a few people have noted with the Desire is the low default volume. I particularly notice this on the 3.5mm out - when plugged into my car I have to have the stereo seriously cranked to get a decent volume.
None of the ROMs currently floating around have mentioned that they've increased the default or maximum volumes - I recall this being possible from the G1, does anyone know if it is for the Desire? If so, which ROMs have it implemented?
Cheers
Phil
Have you tried downloaing "Volume Control" from the App Market?
There's a few apps called Volume Control:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-roy-volumecontrol-Aqmj.aspx
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-android-trystania-volumecontrol-jptq.aspx
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.vol-qwmn.aspx
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-revsodev-volumecontrol-zFqC.aspx
I tried the first one and it showed my media and system volume already at the maximum. Was it one of the others?
Cheers

The volume cant be adusted for the desire at the moment mate;(
JD
Boooooooooo
Cheers for the info though. I'll just keep cranking the stereo and freaking myself out if I switch to CD
Have you tryed louder volume hack ?
Louder Volume Hacks works fine for me, at least with my bluetooth headset
I was under the impression only the T-Mobile ROM had its volume reduced due to some EU regulations and people who flashed the stock ROM had much improved volume. Why wouldn't the cooked ROMs also have standard levels?

My stock T-Mobile ROM had this problem (UK). Sounded awful on line-out from the headphone socket. The vanilla HTC rom doesn't suffer from this problem - it's fine. You'll need to make a goldcard and flash your device.
If the Vanilla ROM doesn't have the low volume problem then how about the Pays and other ROMs?

I have just moved from Touch HD to the HTC Desire I was supprised about low the level of sound output comparing the the HD.
Any hint to solve this will be more than welcome
Isn't it the Kernel that cause the problem like the Nexus ?!

Cheers for the heads-up Señor Womble. If I'm going to flash, I'll probably root at the same time - I guess if it's just a T-Mobile thing then all the rooted roms will be based off stock and be louder too?
Should find out this weekend
i had the tmobile rom. the volume was very low. but even the generic HTC roms have the same problem. no improvement yet all. its waste of time flasing with a generic rom.
is there something like winmo registry to increase it output volume? or we need to wait for HTC?
Could always buy a headphone amp for £10. I have a Fiio E5, works very well.
Its true most mp3's or fm radio are in quite low volume. However I have some mp3's that play real loud. Believe me - I am a musician and I know what is loud - but these few tracks I cant play on full Desire volume without hurting my ears!
I use Sennheiser headphones and all the mp3's are from CD's converted in Itunes with same settings.
It looks like some tracks are not affected by the volume limit of Desire...

I would have to strongly disagree there. My experience is that it was 100% the fault of the T-Mobile ROM and the generic unbranded Virgin ROM solved my volume issues, as well as an issue I was having with my SD card.
Sorry, double post.
I am having a problem with the headphone output. When listening to anything bass heavy... such as house music, the bass is distorted. Its sounds almost as if the headphones I am using are blown. I know this is not the issue because I have tested several different pairs, all with the same result. I even experience this when I have the phone hooked up to my car stereo. Volume isn't an issue and everything else seems to sound fine... its just that bass notes and kick drums sound horrible.
I'm coming from a Vibrant which was a powerhouse with voodoo sound enabled.
I understand that the Yamaha dac in the SGSII is nowhere near as good as the Wolfson used in the SGS... but it shouldn't sound this bad?!?!
I have tried just about every audio/dsp app available to no avail.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Also... not sure if it matters but I am running Juggernaut v3.7
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hmm I was going to suggest you get power amp and just turn down the overall level in the eq. that might help in troubleshooting where in the signal chain the distortion is coming from. If it remains distorted at low level i would assume it wsa a hardware problem.
Ive certainly not any problems with distortion as long as i keep good gain structure in my eq.
I have tried power amp. I also tried lowering all the levels down. Nothing works
I forgot to mention that the problem exists even at the lowest volume settings... quite fustrating
I really hope it isn't faulty hardware... not sure ill be able to get a replacement
Completely different hardware but I had this issue on my HD2 after either making the lower frequency settings too high with other DSP or equalizers or when I used root level volume boosters like Volume Hack+
Are you using a stock (non-flashed non-rooted) build? If not, you can try a nand backup and flash a fresh install of your ROM. Not installing anything and go back to the same songs to see if they distort.
The SGS2 can push a good amount of low frequency granted you have earphones/equipment that can pick up low frequency output. I use it in my cars and with my Sennheiser headphones with no real issues and great output. Even with max volume, no distortion.
The HD2 was capable of only so much before it distorted but I haven't been able to replicate the issue with my SGS2. But then again, I haven't installed DSP or any other 3rd party volume/equalizer apps.
Im running juggernaut 3.7 w/ bullet kernel. To be honest I didnt check what it sounded like prior to rooting and flashing the custom rom. I only installed the dsp apps to fix the problem.
A new release just came out so I will take your advice, wipe and start with a fresh install.
Hope it fixes the problem.... its really driving me nuts.
Have you tried a different ROM? If not, try CM7 Alpha v3. Theres nothing like CM's DSP Manager.
Make a NANDROID backup first, that way if the problem still persists, you can always easily switch back to your current ROM.
Well, the title says everything. The sound on the phone is great for me, there's no issue playing Youtube videos inside the browser, music plays just fine, beats on/off doesn't make any difference and external speaker doesn't have this issue. There's no equalizer installed and I can't figure out what to do to get this annoyance fixed.
I'm using the latest stock 4.0.4 update and my One X is the international version. I'm still playing with the stock firmware to know better my phone. I did the same with my old SGS and that helped me to choose the best ROM later.
Thanks in advance.
I knew this could be a not answered question, because the lack of info and not enough testing. But that's OK, I kinda sorted it out.
I was testing my HOX with two earphones, one from Galaxy S, other from Xperia Mini. As they are in-ear, I never bothered to pull the HOX earphone from the plastic bag. So I finally did it and with those freaking lids in my ears, it works. Then I did noticed the different headphone icon on status bar, it has a button on it. The others are recognized without that. Quite promptly I inserted one of the old earphones and pressed the answering call button and guess what? With the button pressed, it works just fine.
My guess is that HOX is very restrictive with the earphone support. And now I change my question, is there any way to recognize those earphones properly or is it a hardware limitation from them?
Thanks again.
OK so I used the search on here and googled this to no avail... I'm currently on slimkat 4.4 for the flo but I've also experienced this on 4.4 on my d2vzw... When I use my Bluetooth headphones to listen to music or watch a movie the volume is either extremely loud or too low... There seems to be no comfortable middle ground... I was wondering if there was a way to edit the build prop or a 3rd party apk I could use to fix this... I've tried to mess with DSP manager but I can't seem to aquire the volume level I desire... Maybe this will get ironed out with time... Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated...
I was having this same problem that I posted a few posts down from yours. The volume on the lowest setting was extremely loud. I put paranoid Android back on and now it's back to normal. I haven't found anything that fixes this yet so will stick with 4.3 til they fix it since I use my headphones often.

It is Kit Kat issue on all devices that use the default Google Bluedroid Bluetooth stack, meaning Nexus devices and Google Play versions (other devices running a modified stack may not be affected).
Supposedly, it is an extension to Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 that enables Bluetooth audio devices to directly control Android's system volume. It seems some genius thought two independent volume levels (headphone volume and handset bluetooth level) was too confusing for folks. Clearly they did not think about (or test) that some Bluetooth audio devices with their own volume controls might default to a very high or low level, and control of only the handset's bluetooth level would not provide sufficient range of adjustment.
So once again we have Goofle googing up bluetooth in Android. Please share your disappointment in the following threads so that we might see a fix ASAP. Guessing they are facing law suits for hearing damage if it is not addressed quickly.

Workaround for playing music is, Play Music > Options (3 dots thing on the top right) > Settings > Equalizer > On, then put everything to the bottom. Still kinda loud, but at least it won't bust my ears.
My issue was with movies not play music. I flashed a different rom and it works fine now anyways hehe
