If u flash a rom with ur 2gb sdcard then all data etc from the rom will be on that, so if u swap the sdcards then obviously the rom will not boot

You have to partition you 8GB card in the same manner of the smaller one (sd-ext big at least the same or bigger + the same swap) if you want to use it with the old rom. You just have to put your old rom backup on the new sd card, and then from recovery do advanced restore-just sd-ext cause everything else is still on the phone.
If you want to flash a new rom, the only requirement for partitioning of the new card is requirements of the rom developer.

I don't know what recovery you use but I recommend 4ext (go to 4ext.net, download recovery updater app, install it to your phone and from app flash recovery.img).
First copy all you have on your fat32 part of sd card to your PC.
Then do a complete nand backup from recovery.
Copy backup folder (from clockwork/backup folder) and 4ext folder you made to your PC.
Copy 4ext folder from your PC to your new sd card (using card reader on your PC)
Turn off the phone and remove old sd card.
Put the new sd card into phone.
Reboot phone into recovery (power+volume down and then select recovery).
Choose tools then partition sd card and remove all and start from scratch.
Choose size and type of sd-ext I recommend 1gb ext4, skip second ext and choose size for swap if you want qnd rest of the sd card fat 32.
Let 4ext execute everything.
When it's done go to main menu and choose toogle usb storage.
Create folder clockworkmod/backup on you sd card.
Copy your nand backup folder you stored on you pc to that folder.
Choose disconnect to unmount sd card.
Choose backup/restore option.
Choose advanced restore and restore only sd-ext.
Voila, it easier to spend 30min of my time then to search a little and find everything already written.:banghead:
Thanks for your support.

[Q] SD Card Problem

Ok, here's the thing.
I was trying to install LeeDrOiD V3.0.7 rom for my Desire and I followed the instructions.
And there was this step: "Flash This EXT 3 Alignment patch prior to flashing the ROM"
I've done all steps and I was stuck in boot screen.
But the main problem is that my phone can't mount SD card.
Before all this (two months before), I was doing step by step "Noob Proofing Everything Desire Guide" and I was doing partition of SD card using Gparted.
So I don't know if I messed up my SD card or what?
I can easily read card on my computer, but not on phone.
Can anyone help me?
same..
I have same this problem.. gparted, Leedroid and then cant mount sd card..
I cant find solution :/
i find somethings
look there

Created swap partition and set it to 0 mb?
Which size has your ext3 partition?
I have 4GB SD card and when I used gparted i set 1GB for ext3.

HELP PLEASE:
Cant update or download new apps from market to SD card.
I can only download & update apps on internal storage and then move them to SD... But If I have app on SD I cannot update or install app.. I always get - Installation Unsuccessful
I am using Leedroid NOA2SD 2.4.1. Tried to format SD card, unmount and mount SD.. nothing helps.
Titanium Backup:
Internal: 23 MB free
SD card: 1.29 GB free
SD card (a2sd): 1.90 MB free
after flashing this fancy alignment.zip you must reboot recovery and then flash the rom.zip
try it now, if it doesnt work you must re-do your sdcard
this can be done with android, boot up into any rom and go to settings>storage>format SD card - and it will restore whole sd as FAT32 (you will lose ext3)
so you need either other android phone or other SD so you can flash any rom to your current phone.
there is also an windows aplication that can do it (restore whole SD as fat32) but i dont know its name (and it is not anything alike gparted which unfortunately cant do it)
I've used SD Formatter 3.0 and I succeded in formatting SD card.
My phone can now mount SD card again.
mac - disk utilities - repair disk - might work if its just corrupted

Restore SD card after partition

Hi, I format my sd card(his original size 8GB) and made a partition through cwm (1024MB).
Now I need this sd card for another use...
How I restore it to original size?
Thanks.
format
Insert the card into your laptop and then boot a Windows CD-DVD and then format, I have done so.

Where do I find this CD-DVD application?

and resize to original size.
But now I have a major issue, when I plug my phone to pc and choose disk drive (USB debugging marked).
I don't get any response in my pc except for the sound so I can't access my sd card through android platform,I can't copy files to my SD card.
I try two ROMs:

I just formated it using windows, when you want to use it for another android rom just format it with CWM
very useful thread. thank you
I can't access my SD card when I in android platform.
I must enter MAGLDR for this and choose USB Mass Storage.
How do I fix it?
Thanks.
anyone????
Can you use another SD in your phone? If not, probably you have a USB-brick. Take a look in the forum for how to resolve it.
I tried.Nope.
I'll read this:[USB-BRICK] All you need to know about USB-Bricks
Does this manual work with HD2 device?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
Thanks.
Can't you just partition/format it using CWM? I use Amon Ra so I'm not sure about CWM. In Amon Ra, I can select a partition size of 0 for the ext partition and Amon Ra automatically partitions/formats the entire card to FAT32.
sd card issue
I have tried to partition my 8 gb sd card but something went wrong now it is not showing free space or sometimes it shows 200 mb is available
Now iam trying to format it but it fails. I have tried tools like sd card formatter also but it didn't work
Pls help me.to format my sd card

upgrading SD card that has S2E

I've got an 8GB SD Card which i plan to upgrade to a 32GB installed in my HTC Desire
Only problem is my Desire running CM7 Official is also running Simple2Ext and Ive installled quite a few apps now (well over the Desires own internal space)
Is there an easy way to upgrade my SD Card and copy the Ext partition from my old 8GB card?
- nandroid backup using your current sd card
- partition your new sd card (4ext or gparted)
- copy everything from old sd card to new sd card (you'll only see the FAT32 partitions in windows, just copy everything you can see, as this will include the nandroid backup)
- insert new sd card and nandroid restore (will restore your ext partition as before)
not tried this with s2e, but should work
Yes this method works brilliantly as I used it personally couple of times in past.

thanks for that, i'll give it a bash

[Q] How to restore SD card?

Hi!
I think I've just mess up my phone, and I need an help.
I was installing a new rom, mildwild 5.2. But I've got some problem wiht app2sd, so decided to format sd card again for delete old ext3 partition and install a new ext4.
I've installed the FAT32 as primary and ext4 as logical... I did it right?
I did it, but now I can't see my sd card from the phone. If I put it in the card reader on pc I can see everything... but on android I can't see anything.
If I check memory status it says:
Total space: not available
I can only delete all... but the button "install new sd card" is not selectable...
What can I do?
THanks a lot!
Solved formatting the sd card again with a card reader and SDFormatter.
Thanks anyway!

[Help] Switch partitioned sd card

Hi,
I want to switch the 32 GB sd card I have on my Desire for another sd card with just 16 GB. I need de 32 GB card for my Tablet.
The card is partinioned using 4-ext with 2GB ext4. I would like to keep my phone exactly as it is now and I thought I could use the following procedure:
1 - make a nandroid backup through 4-ext to the sd card and then make a backup of the sdcard on the pc;
2 - partition new sdcard the same way as the original one;
3 - copy the nandroid backup to the new card and restore it from the 4-ext recovery;
4 - copy the data of the first card's fat32 partition from the pc to the new one (fat32 partition).
Will this work?
Can't really try it right now because I've only just now ordered the new sdcard.
Sorry if the subject has already been discussed but the search funtion is not working so I could not search for it...
Tks...
