I've got an 8GB SD Card which i plan to upgrade to a 32GB installed in my HTC Desire
Only problem is my Desire running CM7 Official is also running Simple2Ext and Ive installled quite a few apps now (well over the Desires own internal space)
Is there an easy way to upgrade my SD Card and copy the Ext partition from my old 8GB card?
- nandroid backup using your current sd card
- partition your new sd card (4ext or gparted)
- copy everything from old sd card to new sd card (you'll only see the FAT32 partitions in windows, just copy everything you can see, as this will include the nandroid backup)
- insert new sd card and nandroid restore (will restore your ext partition as before)
not tried this with s2e, but should work
Yes this method works brilliantly as I used it personally couple of times in past.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
thanks for that, i'll give it a bash

Hi guys,
I have a question regarding the migration of data and apps from an old (stock 4gb) SD card to a new one while running APP2SD on the desire.
I'm using Pays 1.9 BraveSoul ROM at the moment with APP2SD installed and working sweet on a device-partitioned ext2.
my new 16gb class 6 card has arrived and I want to transfer all my apps and data from one to another without losing anything (I don't mind re-installing though).
I can back up my apps with Titanium and I have been doing that successfully for non-APP2SD ROMs. However, I'm not sure how to copy the ext2 partition to my new card and how the desire will react.
I found this method in my searches and I was wondering if anyone can confirm it is suitable for the rooted desire?
"I did an a2sd swap yesterday.
Did a nandroid/ext backup.
Copied card to computer.
Powered off phone.
Switched cards.
Partitioned new card.
Copied back from computer to SD card
Restored nandroid
Worked like a champ."

Also, I'm not using linux, I do my partitioning from the device in recovery.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Paul.

Update:
Looks like the desire is not liking the nandroid+ext backup.
I think I will have to do a full titanium backup and re-flash to get my APP2SD on the new card...
You can back up all your apps using Titanium Backup, format the new SD card in recovery, boot up, install Titanium, and restore your apps using that.
as the title suggests i have leedroid 2.3 froyo rom and have been running it with a 8gb microsd for a couple of months, sd card partitioned, gold card etc.
8gb card created into gold card with gold card creator tool on modaco
however if i put my 16gb card in desire it doesn't boot, maybe due to fact that it isnt a gold card too, and no leedroid rom info?.
questions
1. do i have to unroot and reinstall a generic 3uk rom (my network)
2. create 16gb gold card
3. unroot again.
any quicker way as i would like to try 2.3 roms out on 16gb card
and yes i have tried searching but i find xda search engine pretty useless guys sorry bots.
Does not have to be a goldcard (better tho).
If you are using A2SD+ then you need to partition the new card (with FAT32+EXT) then
a) Re-flash the ROM and restore things via TI Backup or Mybackup PRO.
or
b) copy the content form the old card's EXT partition to the new card's EXT partiton (Linux OS required AFAIK).
You can also make a nandroid, partition your new card, copy everything from the fat partition to the new card and restore the nandroid (with your new card in the phone).
thanks guys

Ok, here's the thing.
I was trying to install LeeDrOiD V3.0.7 rom for my Desire and I followed the instructions.
And there was this step: "Flash This EXT 3 Alignment patch prior to flashing the ROM"
I've done all steps and I was stuck in boot screen.
But the main problem is that my phone can't mount SD card.
Before all this (two months before), I was doing step by step "Noob Proofing Everything Desire Guide" and I was doing partition of SD card using Gparted.
So I don't know if I messed up my SD card or what?
I can easily read card on my computer, but not on phone.
Can anyone help me?
same..
I have same this problem.. gparted, Leedroid and then cant mount sd card..
I cant find solution :/
i find somethings

Created swap partition and set it to 0 mb?
Which size has your ext3 partition?
I have 4GB SD card and when I used gparted i set 1GB for ext3.

HELP PLEASE:
Cant update or download new apps from market to SD card.
I can only download & update apps on internal storage and then move them to SD... But If I have app on SD I cannot update or install app.. I always get - Installation Unsuccessful
I am using Leedroid NOA2SD 2.4.1. Tried to format SD card, unmount and mount SD.. nothing helps.
Titanium Backup:
Internal: 23 MB free
SD card: 1.29 GB free
SD card (a2sd): 1.90 MB free
after flashing this fancy alignment.zip you must reboot recovery and then flash the rom.zip
try it now, if it doesnt work you must re-do your sdcard
this can be done with android, boot up into any rom and go to settings>storage>format SD card - and it will restore whole sd as FAT32 (you will lose ext3)
so you need either other android phone or other SD so you can flash any rom to your current phone.
there is also an windows aplication that can do it (restore whole SD as fat32) but i dont know its name (and it is not anything alike gparted which unfortunately cant do it)
I've used SD Formatter 3.0 and I succeded in formatting SD card.
My phone can now mount SD card again.
mac - disk utilities - repair disk - might work if its just corrupted
Hey guys, i had a samsung microsd 8gb class 2 card and i just got a 32gb lexar class 10 . i was on miui a2sd. i partitioned my 8gb card using rom manager (unfortunately), the 32gb is ALL fat32.
first, i copied my 8gb card to my computer, then transferred that to my 32gb. the card didnt work (phone stayed on HTC screen forever).
after a bit of fooling around, i backed up my apps+data to my 8gb sd using titanium, then i performed a factory reset of the phone. i then moved the dalvik cache back to internal memory and for some reason, the 32gb card worked in the phone.
then i decided to switch to mildwild rom instead of miui. the problem is, now when i open titanium with the 32gb card, NONE of my apps are shown. if i use the 8gb card, the apps are shown and able to be restored.
so can anybody explain this? and do i need to partition my 32gb for mildwild?
If your rom requires EXT partition, then obviously you have to create EXT partition on your new card.
via xda app
maybe you have an EXT partition in samsung card. You have to prepare partition on new card, do a nandroid backup with samsung card on, copy files to pc, paste files on lexar card and restore nandroid with lexar on.
If you were using MIUI A2SD then part of your 8GB will have a Ext partition. I suggest (no responsibility accepted) you partition your 32GB using gParted and use some kind of Linux OS to copy the files from the Ext partition of your old card to your new one. Failing that, do a nandroid back up on your 8GB and copy that over to your 32GB and restore. But be sure to have an ext partition of your 32gb because you need it for your MIUI A2SD.
Hi,
I want to switch the 32 GB sd card I have on my Desire for another sd card with just 16 GB. I need de 32 GB card for my Tablet.
The card is partinioned using 4-ext with 2GB ext4. I would like to keep my phone exactly as it is now and I thought I could use the following procedure:
1 - make a nandroid backup through 4-ext to the sd card and then make a backup of the sdcard on the pc;
2 - partition new sdcard the same way as the original one;
3 - copy the nandroid backup to the new card and restore it from the 4-ext recovery;
4 - copy the data of the first card's fat32 partition from the pc to the new one (fat32 partition).
Will this work?
Can't really try it right now because I've only just now ordered the new sdcard.
Sorry if the subject has already been discussed but the search funtion is not working so I could not search for it...
Tks...
