Either format the SD card with your phone/computer to Fat32, or, if you bought a 64GB SD card like some of us, follow the link.

I actually have a question regarding this.
I want to upgrade to a 16gb sd card and was wondering if there is a thread showing step by step instructions to do so.
I'm rooted and have a couple roms backed up along with titanium backing up my apps.
Do I really have to format the new sd card to fat 32? the 2gb sd card that came with it seems to work fine which I believe isn't formatted fat 32.
Is it really as easy as copying and pasting over??? I did not partition the sd card.
Also, after searching the forums I ran into a concerning thread regarding sd cards that DON'T work.... should I be worried?

If you want to transfer your files from the 2gb sd card to the 32 gb sd card just copy all files to the 32 gb sd card. Be sure to format the 32 gb sd to FAT32. I dont know how you didnt have to format your other card to fat32 unless you havent turned s-off. But anyways to format it to fat32 just plug in phone to computer( make sure you put phone on disk drive not charge only) and open "My computer"(shows all your drives ex. C:, D:, ect.) Right click on the drive that is your sd card and choose format. Make sure its in FAT32 and click format. You can do quick format too. Hope this helps

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking it was a lot harder than just copying over the files.
I have S-Off and I am pretty sure it's not formatted FAT32. I just checked the properties and it just says "FAT" and if I go to format it the selection at default shows "FAT" as well. But if standard procedure is to format to FAT32 I will on my next sd card.

SD card problems, Help Please!

Hello all, I have a 16 GB sd card (actual 14.83GB) and under Settings - SD card and Phone Storage it says that i have 7.04 GB available...basically half...
The problem is that I have nothing THAT BIG!! I copied the SD card over to my computer and it's only 852 MB...What the hell is going on?
Has anyone had this problem? or does anyone have any ideas as to how to figure out what is taking up so much space?
Help is appreciated, thank you.
Do you apps2sd or apps2ext? Also, by chance is there a folder called: LOST.DIR? Lastly, if you take the card OUT of the evo, put it into an adapter, and check free spaces on your PC what does it say? << Perhaps there's some hidden folders your PC cannot see when you just directly copy the files to your PC.
if you have downloaded a rom or somthing to it, plus music eats memory up badly, i suggest reformatting sd card.
go to settings>sd card & phone storage> unmount sd card> format
make sure you get the files you need off of it. akaics, videos, contacts, apps;etc.
If i helped, hit the thanks button!

[Q] 64gb SD card showing as 32gb

So I bought a 64gb sandisk microSD card but when I tried to format it using GUI format it only formatted to 32gb. I formatted it on an old vista laptop since I don't have an sd card reader. Any idea why it wouldn't show as 64gb?

So it's a SanDisk? It should work just fine.
Our phones unofficially support 64GB cards as do most phones. I remember even asking the question when 64GB cards just started to come it whether I could use them. You may need to format the card into another format then your phone will recognize every GB of it.
You will not be able to do this with your phone but formatting it on your computer. I'll try finding that form link for you which has a tutorial.

I used the GUI format which is a version of FAT32 format for windows to format the card. When I formatted it I ended up with 32gb instead of 64gb and wondering if it is just a problem with the laptop or the card. If the laptop micro sd card reader didn't support 64gb would it see the card as 32 or just not see it at all?
EDIT: I had my friend format my card with his stock S3 and it recognized all 64gb (although its in exFAT so my phone won't read it DOH) so it appears the laptop I used doesn't support SDXC and that was the issue. Gonna buy a media card reader for my pc to format the card. Thanks for the replys.
Glad you got it going. Here's the thread I started about it, if you're still interested http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-accessories/384806-64gb-micro-sdxc-card.html

Thanks for the link, but for me the issue was my microSD --> USB dongle converter which wasn't compatible with the SDXC. Not sure how the converter could limit this but obviously it did. Will try to find another usb dongle since its more convenient to have that than a SD card. i dont have a SD reader in my big PC either.
Next time you need to Format an SD Card, and want to do it on the PC / Laptop. Use SD Formatter. It has never failed me once. It has even saved a few SD Cards that were allegedly done. I've used the program on several older PC's and Laptops. With nothing more than the SD Card Adapter. But it does require the card to be out of the Device. So not having an SD Card Reader port on the PC /Laptop is an issue .
i had the same but solved
:good:

try using some other card reader or leptop with in built card reader and this time use "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" google and download
and just run it then unmount ur card and then mount manually u will see 2 partitions on ur SD card reader just delete 2nd partition and click apply and then after format it to exfat by using stock windows tool built in windows ....
Think used Mac or other os format it .???
I have a SanDisk ultra 64 gig micro sd card from walmart I bought for 59 dollars and everything I use it with see 64 gigs. Don't buy the cards online there cons and if you can get a refund. I paid 100 for a 32 gig micro sd card a few years ago, so 59 for 64 gig is a steal. I have the sprint gs3 also.

CWM + My EXT SD CARD = No Fun

Well I have a new version of CWM Mod, and apparently when you format the sd-card, it no longer formats the inner sd card but your external sd card. I was really pissed as I lost all my data I had saved, but it also managed to screw up my sd card. Neither of my computers recognize my SD Card and I have no idea how I can go about restoring it. My phone can detect the sd card but it will say its corrupt randomly. So I'm guessing CWM formatted the card in a really screwed up way. Any suggestions brahs?
I'll even try to mount the sd card on CWM but it wont be able to mount it. It's a shame to waste a 32 gig sd card like this

Make sure you card is not in exfat. CWM will not read cards in exfat, I had the same problem. If it is you are going to need to format it to fat 32. Most 32gigs sd cards and higher come in exfat now. You are most likey going to have to do it on the computer also it cant be done from CWM.

Yes but my computer won't even detect the SD Card. It was fine and dandy up until yesterday when I hit format on CWM on the SD Card thinking I was formatting the internal storage (since it's labelled /sdcard) but it formatted the actual SD. Windows won't detect my Micro SD and neither will my Mac. However if I put the SD card into my phone and connect via USB, it shows up.

You pressed format /sdcard, and it formatted your extsd? That's a pretty serious bug, so thanks for the heads up. What version of CWM are you running?
Op. I did the same thing a long time ago. I have gotten into the habbit of removing the sd card when I am formatting with a custom recovery. I also back up the sd to my pc and reformat the sd when changing roms. A bit off topic but I also wipe system before flashing a new rom. So far I have avoided many of the issues mentioned day after day. Maybe I am lucky but my wierd habits have been successful so far.

5.8 something. It's weird because it allows for both internal and external SD use. When you backup the first open is to save to external then its internal. First version of CWM i've ever used with such an option.
For anyone wondering about a solution, I used an android 2.3 device which actually has a format option for the SD card and now my computers recognize it again. Life is good

[Q] How to use 64GB SD card in Tmobile Galaxy S4

I have tried to use a samsung 64GB micro sd card in my galaxy s4, but everytime i put music on the sd it says the sd is damaged and needs to be reformatted. I contacted T Mobile and they told me that their version of the galaxy s4 would only take sd cards up to 32GB. I have read some other treads on this site to try and get around this, like the exfat thing of fat32, both of which failed. I have recently rooted my phone, successfully, and i was wondering if anybody could help me get past this 32GB sd card only bs. Now that I have rooted my phone is there any option i can take to successfully have my 64GB sd work in my galaxy s4. If you need more information please let me know. I would like to solve this problem as quickly as possible. Thank you in advance to anyone willing to try and help me.
Find a kernel that's exFAT compatible our reformat to FAT32. The factory firmware s should be compatible iirc.
Tmobile is wrong about only accepting 32GB sd card.

I have tried both ways exFat and Fat32. I have over 32GB on the sd card, but once i put the sd in my phone the phone tells me the the sd is damaged. I am new to all this ROM, Kernel, etc... stuff. Where could I find a kernel that supports exFat or FAT32 and how would I install this on my phone without messing it up?
I think they all support FAT32, stock firmware should support exFAT. You might just have a bad card.

Have you tried a different 64gb card? I have no problem on stock rom using a 64gb card I got on amazon.
Like what he said. I've been on Stock for a month before switching to custom ROMs but within that month I've got no problems using my 64GB card. Try another card, might be your card is damaged in the first place...

I honestly think, if you've really tried 3 different sd cards, that you could have a bad MicroSD slot. You might go into T-Mobile and ask them if you can try your card in one of their S4's. If your card works fine in a different phone, then, if your phone is a recent purchase, exchange it, if it's relatively new, get a warranty replacement.
