My idea is to wait until someone releases one that claims compatibility with JB

You can use the same kernel throughout specific android versions and they will work fine. For example, you can use a CM9 kernel with ICS and all ICS revisions. However, a CM9 (ICS) kernel will not work with CM10 (JB). Even in the event it DOES boot, you're going to run into a lot of issues. Either way, even if you decide to try, as long as the kernel is specific for your device, worse case scenario is that you soft brick and have to ODIN.

Tdj just released a jb kernel

You can use the Darkside Venom #6 Aroma #1. I am on CM9 RC2. You just have to do a darkside cache wipe first.

TDJ has kernels posted for both CM10 and the JB AOKP ROMS

[Q] 3.0 Kernel

Is there a 3.0 Kernel for the droid inc, 2.x.x.x.x is just not working.
And aokp doesn't even boot up...
There are no 3.0 kernels that I'm aware of. I can tell you now that the kernels being on 2.6 is not the problem. If you're running the wrong kernel for the ROM it won't boot or will boot but not run properly. What ROM or ROMs have you tried and what kernels have you run with them? What is the build date on the kernels? (incredikernel has the build date in the zip file).
Also you can try flashing the ROM without a kernel - it would use the included kernel in this case - and that should boot. Not working or not booting is not specific enough as it doesn't indicate what you tried flashing.

Later aokp builds had issues booting. I cant remember the last build that did. Which one did you try? If you look in the aokp thread there's a fix to get the later ones to boot. Also note that aokp is no longer supported by the aokp team for the inc.

I found that all the ROMs that changed up the stock 3.0.8 kernel jacked up the hardlights.. the only working ones are stock 4.0.4 and also the AOKP ICS rom. theres really no fix until they fix the kernel source
this includes CM9 and almost anything cyanogenmod based, darkside ROM also have this issue but it comes on sometimes, the only stable one i found was the July 15 build 40 of AOKP rom, and anything as close to stock as u can find with the 3.0.8 kernel.
goodluck
CM9 RC2 works fine so if the kernel could be ported from RC2 that would work

yea exactly, i even suggested that to some devs and they dont answer the call so idk.. they are just waiting for the kernel source to be updated thats all they tell me...
By the way on the RC2, how did you flash it? im thinking of just doing superwipe, flash rom, cache wipe via CWM recov?
thanks

According to teamchopsticks they are working on the kernel and making things more stable with CM10 so we should see it fixed whenever they release there next version of CM10

[Q] Can I flash any kernel after flashing a rom?

I use cm10 build 6, can I go ahead and pick a kernel to flash over the stock cm kernel?
Well the kernel you want must be compatible with the rom you are using and your device. For example if you are on CM10 you must flash kernels built for CM10/jelly bean. Otherwise you will get boot loops.
There might be some kernels for CM10 in the development section of Galaxy wonder.

If kernel is for your Custom ROM that you have, you obv can.
flash the kernel that is exactly for ur ROM
kernel that is for CM10
kernel that is for CM9

It's better to stay with the same Kernel, from my point of view, I guess if you shared with us why do you wanna change the Kernel, there might be a solution for your problem, a friend of mine Flashed a different kernel and it was supposed to be compatible, but still he had problems and he flashed everything back again.
I wanted to use other governors. Btw I flashed a new kernel and it seems fine as of now

Good for you, as long as everything is working smoothly, then good luck with the new Kernel:good:
is it really just limited by CM9/CM10? Like if I am using acro's cm9 RC6 and the kernel was released after RC7 was released, maybe some of the extra features in RC7 causes a slightly different coding for the kernel which of course may cause problems if you use it on RC6?
also i suppose there's no need for clearing data/cache, fixing permission etc when flashing kernel right?
sorry if I'm not supposed to ask questions in a question. I just feel this is relevant to the title and i feel that it is better when people can just read this post and learn more about kernels. The list of how-tos in the dev section has not much details on kernels

Nope no problem at all. You can even flash R7 kernel on every previous version of arco cm. as long it is for the same android version
No need to do that. But just to play everything save it is better to do wipe cache and dalvik no need to wipe data

Paranoid Android 2.99?

I can't seem to get this to work. I am running PA 3.10 but its too 'experimental' yet to use on a daily basis. Any special tricks I need to get this version to work? Or a list of what kernels are known to work? I suspect that it is a kernel issue.

try Evervolv 4.2.2
EXTREMELY STABLE :silly::silly:
Maybe I am missing something but isn't evervolv missing most if not all of the features and options of PA?
If you could point me to the stable version of AOSPA 4.22 that would be great. I only can find the one thread that has the buggy version.

So... you never answered--does Evervolv have the hybrid mode and cusotmization options of PA or is just a straight vanilla rom, because thats what it sounds like when I read the description.
And does anyone know how to get 2.99 working?
Evervolv is a vanilla rom.

2.99 is working
just flash the hellboy kernel( not the 4.2 one)
or u can also try super sick kernel
So which hellboy kernel do I use? There are tons of them and not really labeled or explained coherently.
Do I just get the latest one?

nAa kernel works on CM10;CM10.1, and should also on CM9

Try including the ramdisks of each android version by extracting boot.imgs and then try. But the process is really hard and u may also need to prepare a new zImage...

Itcan be done but with various patches in ramdisk (but not everything woring 100%). I had a kernel on my PLAY for GB ICS and JB but compared to say a GB specific kernel or ICS specific kernel performance decreased.
So to anwser the OP's question. Yes its possible but using a specific kernel for that specific android is much better.

I could but WiFi wont work and not sure about anything else. I will not attempt to do anything like this without a mogami device without owning one. I was meant to be getting one soon but donator moved to a new device and unfortunately sold his old device to family member instead
Hard to hear those words but I'm happy with your kernels... Without owning mogami device you did tremendous job for us .. hands off
