Not working camera, volume buttons and headphone slot with rooted dhd - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am new here and i am writing you guys to
please help me out in this matter. I got my HTC
DESIRE HD rooted from my friend and i was
playing with it by flashing different roms
through Clock-Work-Mod. One day i dont know
what went wrong when i was flashing a new
rom. A message was displayed on the CWM that
installation aborted and some error appreared.
At that moment i got panic and didnt wipe off
this rom data and flashed the other one i had.
Everything went perfectly fine and mobile
restarted. When i tried to work the volume
buttons they are not working, i tried camera out,
No response....I put headphones in its slot but
nothing is working.
GUYS mind you that i was having a backup for
my roms when everything was working fine. I
restored them but still the same problem. And
volume keys are not either working in
CLOCKWORKMOD. I tried different stuff means
wiping all the data and cache and whatsoever.
Nothing is happening for me.
PLEASE HELP ME OUTTTTTTTTT...HELPPPPPP
MEEEEE.... I LOST MY WARRANTY AND NOW I
DON WANA LOSE MY PHONE...PLEASE
HELPPPPP!!!!!!!!

If you used adb then you know more than I do.
The only thing I can think of is if you are full wiping.
Booting into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe dalvik
Format all partitions except sd card.
I suggested to get 4ext touch becauee you can use the screen to navigate in the recovery section instead of the volume buttons to format and flash.
If you are having hardware issues, could it be a hardware problem? It happebed after you got nervous which leads to believe it may be software related. But if you flashed a stock rom using adb, did that fully wiped your phone? I don't know.
If it didn't, try a full wipe.
Read this only for informational purposes. Don't try anything until you are sure it's not software related.

It is all software related, well i tried everything but the same...it is not a harware problem. I think the rom that had an error when i was flashing it had a bad impact on my media driver. I don't know how to fix this crap now....please keep posting and keep in touch...and do ask your friends to fix this issue if you could please.
Thanks once again

when i was flashing a new ROM through CWM then an error appeared stating installation aborted...I got panic and when this error appeared....i just flashed the other ROM...but i didn't wipe the data of the Error making ROM...I think that is why this problem happened...but new ROM was flashed successfully and when i tried to work volume keys in the ROM and in CWM they were not working, Camera and Earphone slot wasn't working as well....After that i tried 4EXT Recovery to wipe everything and flashed the ROM once again but same problem for every ROM..Even i Recently flashed an RUU Stock HTC ROM VIA ADB but same....Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't help your problem, but if everything is really down and you're back on stock ROM, without root, go and complain to HTC and whatever your service provider is. Pretend like you don't know what happened. If you have a good provider, or if your phone warranty hasn't expired yet, then they should fix it for you.

As i have told you.....I dowloaded one ROM from XDA-Developers website...I wanted to flash it...I flashed it with CLOCKWORKMOD after going into recovery....while flashing i got an error that installation aborted...i didn't reboot my phone as i knew that this ROM will not work as it gave an error..I went to the folder where i kept other ROMS and flashed one of them but i didn't wipe out the data, Cache etc of this ERROR ROM this time and flashed other one..After that this problem happened...
I used 4EXT Recovery after that to wipe data again and flash another ROM...I flashed many ROMS after that but same....camera, Volume keys and earphone slot is not working....
Someone told me to flash an RUU that will overwrite all the previous data by using ADB....i did it as well...Everything went fine again....ROM was flashed....but F**king problem remains the same....

flash it used fastboot (adb tools)
1.Turn off your phone
2. Hold the volume down button + power until you boot to a white screen.
3. Use the volume rocker to select FASTBOOT then press the power button to select it.
4. Connect your phone.
5. Open up a windows command prompt and navigate to your sdk tools or platform tools folder. tools (c:\android-sdk-windows\tools) or platform-tools (c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools) (ore where you have the adb)
6. Type FASTBOOT DEVICES to make sure your computer "sees" your phone and is ready to flash the recovery. You should get a serial number and then the word fastboot as the output.
7. Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and press enter. Give it a minute to do it's thing. You should get a message that says writing recovery and success.
(you must have the recovery.img on the same place as fastboot)
8. Unplug your phone and use the volume rocker to select BOOTLOADER and then again to select RECOVERY and you should be booted into the 4ext recovery

Looking to replace this naff ass broken "replacement HTC Desire HD" battery. Any suggestions? Are these High Capacity Gold battierys any use?

Have you connected your phone to your computer successfully before, and only recently not working? Did you change anything?

Well, apparently you don't know what you're talking about. There is no such thing as rooting on Windows Mobile. You're talking about HardSPL.
Did you install the HTC drivers or HTC Sync?
To find out whether your phone is rooted go into the bootloader (turn phone off, then hold volume down when you power it back on). When the bootloader starts up if it says "S-OFF" at the top of the screen you are rooted. If it says "S-ON" then you are not.

you could still downgrade with PC10IMG.zip file (download link in rooting guide on wiki). Than it should be working fine - but you loose root!

Try a different computer/USB cable?
Can ADB see your device when it's plugged in?
Are you S-OFF? If so, try flashing a different ROM and see if the problem goes away.
Like others said, too difficult to definitively say what's going wrong without you providing some more information.

how do you flash a custom rom, im stupid and cant find it :'( and btw this has to be through an sd card cause i think cant do nothing with my usb :/
do you have root permitions ? if so - download rom manager (at market), at first click on flash clockwork recovery and when its done take "download rom" - choose which one you want to and follow the steps that will rom manager tell you.
otherwise you could (after flashing recovery) put some rom to your sdcard, go to the recovery (power button + volume up; take care to not have pc10img file on your sdcard in that moment) - go to the recovery, wipe data /cache, advanced - wipe battery status / dalvik; back , instal zip - choose zip file with rom - and you are ready to go.
... says an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands D:
i do have recovery mode what can i do with that?

A friend rooted it over a year ago.
Everything worked fine, so we flashed a ROM. (don't remember which one)
That worked fine, then few days later things on the phone started to fail. Slowly more and more things failed. Then I was forced to reboot the phone.
When I rebooted It stuck on boot screen. now I get those logs in recovered that I originally posted.
To say the worse, it sounds like a corrupted file system acutally . You can get to HBOOT screen right? (Vol + Power On)

Yes, I can get there very easily.
Is a corrupt file system irreversible? That sounds like something where I could just replace the files with non-corrupt ones...maybe? haha as you can see I know nothing.

Erm.. I'm not too sure, it could be just maybe a small error fixable by 'replacing', but then again it could be a physical damage (bad sectors, but those are usually very very rare).
If your bootloader does function fine, it could be the former (though not being able to mount in recovery sounds like a bad sector). It is possible that you can load a rom through ur sd card and restore it through the bootloader. (I'm still learning that part). Be very very very careful! You can actually make your phone not work! Do a lot of research, and don't rush! Hopefully someone with much more experience can help from here on.
I'll explain here: if your phone does not boot, usually it could mean that some files cannot be read or are missing, so the phone will not boot android. The fact that the recovery states that it cannot mount the filesystem could mean that there is a possibility that your memory filesystem may be corrupted. But, since it can boot the bootloader without problems, there is a high possibility that the problem lies in the recovery files being problematic themselves. In that case, you can load a original rom (BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU DO SO, I ASKED HERE, so this could be a jumping board for you.). A mention, u must be careful, loading a full ROM includes loading the bootloader as well, so it may cause your phone to not even load the bootloader.
I really think someone with better experience should help from here on, i dont want to brick your phone :/

Okay, I tried what you said but no success. My ClockworkMod seems to not be mounting. Because of the Errors I posted previously in my first post. So this way I can't flash anything from recovery because it will just stay on that screen with the top hat and the orange circle with the arrow. Nothing happens. If I tap the power button, it just goes back to the menu.
Should I be updating clockwork somehow?
Is there another way to flash?
Could there be a problem with my SD's? (i've tried on 2 different ones)
Do you have any ideas?
This is an educated guess, but you might want to try flashing the stock firmware back onto the phone and trying again, and ensure the MD5s match. You could even follow the instructions in the wiki to give CyanogenMod ROM a try; that's what I'm using now and is the more widely developed and recognizable ROM that I know of.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
Firstly, don't select stuff with power button in clockwork, use the camera or trackpad.
Secondly, those errors may indicate a bad emmc, which is a hardware defect, and cannot be fixed. More info here
You can either go for a warranty replacement, or you can boot cm7.1 from your sdcard, using Catherall's instructions

Sure, I can try that. Is there a step by step....don't really know what im doing.
Almost 100% you have a bad emmc, there is no fix for this, nipqer sent you a guide to run an os off your sdcard and this may be your only 'fix'
You can try and flash a new recovery via fastboot and a rom as well. But my best guess is your sol, try to warranty it if possible, run os off sd, or sell it for parts and get a new one

Dude This happened to me too first if you downgraded to froyo and if you kept a nandroid backup of it restore to the froyo nandroid backup BE SURE THE NANDROID BAKUP OF THE FROYO VERSION IS A ROOTED ONE OR ELSE YOU'LL BRICK YOUR PHONE OR SCREW UP THE ROOT!! then after that flash another ROM using fastboot in bootloader mode
okay heres what to do
1.Open A CMD window in windows
2.Navigate to the folder where you have fastboot for example cd...
cd...
cd /
C:\Android SDK\Platform Tools
then you should also have ADB at the same folder together with Fastboot
then plug your phone while it fastboot mode in Bootloader
it should say "FASTBOOT USB"
3.Then verify that your computer recognizes your Phone by typing "fastboot devices" without (" ")
4.put the ROM.zip on the same folder where you have Fastboot and ADB
5. type in fastboot clear cache (I don't know the exact command but you need to clear cache)
6. AFTER CLEARING CACHE TYPE IN "fastboot flash zip ROM.zip (REPLACE "ROM" with the right ROM name it ahould be like ICS.zip or whatever your gonna flash
7. just let it do its job
8.Celebrate if it worked =))
PM me if you need more help
SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I DID SOMETHING WRONG

flash lastest clockworkmod and you can mount USB from recovery, copy rom and install as normal.

@vorticalbox tweet me
what the latest version i got 5.8.4.0 i think this is the latest but i dont know hot to mount USB :/
Yep that's the latest version. Flash it via fastboot:
Put the recovery.img in your fastboot folder and rename it to "recovery.img", then open a command prompt and:
cd..
cd..
cd fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now extract the boot.img from the ROM you want to flash on your PC, and copy it to your fastboot folder and:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then boot into recovery and:
Go to mounts and storage
Choose Mount USB Storage
Copy ROM to your phone
Factory reset
Wipe Dalvik cache
Choose Zip from SD Card
Flash Rom
Reboot and enjoy
If this doesn't work, you'll have to boot into flastboot mode and run the RUU for your phone.
Either way, it's not 'BRICKED'.
Just make sure your battery doesn't go below 30% before you fix it or it will be much more difficult to recover (but not impossible).
It's impossible to totally brick an S-ON One X as whatever happens, you can always get into fastboot mode.
Guys i have problem too. I flashed boot.img with kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1967897 via this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962428

Ok guys. I almost had heartattack. By holding vol down buttont and power it went into Bootloader mode. I was able to get into recovery and then used venom flasher to change back to stock kernel. Oh god... Thank you guys trying to help me
Dudes, when its stuck in start up logo doesn't mean its bricked. It's bricked when you can't turn it on or go into bootloader. Please don't use "bricked" to describe every problem you encounter please.

That is true. What's more I was stupid enough to flash kernel to totally different phone (One XL). Luckily my stupidity was spared this time.
I hope OP will repair his phone too.
Like I said, it's pretty much impossible to 'BRICK' an S-ON device.
What about If you flash a Ron intended for a different phone, doesn't this change the layout of system positions? Or I'm just being stupid and you need s-off to mess things up like that?

Flash the newest CWM Recovery. Or any recovery with that you can use the option "advanced restore". Now Backup your Rom> wipe everything> restore>advanced restore>restore data only
Here you go
Sry, can one the mods delete this post? My browser is f****** up and didn't show me there are already answers...
I think this qualifies as "bricked"
OK, I am trying to help my sister with her HTC 1X. It will not turn on whatsoever. I hold down the power button, nothing. I hold down the power and one of the volume buttons (up or down), nothing. I hold down the power button and both of the volume buttons, nothing.
I have hooked it up to my laptop because I was able to find some drivers for the device and some files that will allow me to root it, should I be able to get the phone to do anything. Anyway, the only thing I get is a message from Windows saying that the device has malfunctioned and that I should disconnect it and reconnect it or replace the device.
I've scanned through several of the threads but cannot seem to find anyone with as legitimately bricked a 1x as my sister has. I am used to rooting and ROMing Samsung devices and thought I would lend a hand by trying to help out with this HTC device but I cannot get it to even show up in MY Computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I was afraid she was going to have to send it back to HTC. What really stinks is that she's only had the phone for 35 days at this point. Started having problems a couple of days ago and ATT doesn't seem to want to do diddly.
Anyway, thanks for the response!
No worries. Pls let us know the outcome. Good luck.

Bootloader relocked on its own now wont accept token

So i unlocked bootloader and did not compete rooting process and when i went to finish, the phone had relocked itself. Now it will not let me unlock it again. I flashed the ruu provided in a post on this site and reset everything and tried again. Nothing.
When i flash unlock_code.bin it says: sending unlocktoken (0 kbs) and that's it, nothing more. When i finally disconnect usb it says fail. Error too many links
I am having such a difficult time with this phone! Any suggestions out there??

xp?
I must've tried it 20 times with the same results.
So I copied my files to a flash drive and packed em on over to a friend's computer running windows7and bam first try. Must not like my ol xp system.
Do I'm unlocked and flash the twrp recovery and follow the steps power this forum and when I go to install the htc dumlock files it installs and then I reboot but when I enter the app tray to install and run dumlock it says program quit working and closes down so I can't update binary.
So at this point there I'd no WiFi or 3G and I'm forced to run RUU to rest phone cuz my dumb A$$ forgot to backup after installing twrp:/
What should I try to install or what steps should I take next?
Thanks in advance for the advice!!! Much appreciated
I dont think you have to RUU your phone at this point. Just do this.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676686 and download the version for HTC one V,
download downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
and downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
move both of these on your SD card
Restart your phone without connecting it yet to the PC in bootloader, you just shut it down, and then you press volume down and power. in the bootloader menu select the 1st option FASTBOOT. you should see in red text FASTBOOT.
Plug the USB cable in the phone and FASTBOOT should change to FASTBOOT USB. open All In One tool and select upper right option Flash Recovery. TWRP GSM (if you use PrimoU) or TWRP CDMA. (For PrimoC).
If the recovery is succesful you can select now in the fastboot menu to go to recovery. in recovery select install and flash those two files to install the Switch User (superuser in this case) and...that should be it. please let me know how it works, im not very good at this either but that's how i did it every time and it was 100% fail safe for me.
Thank u
Thank u very much, it worked perfectly!
Now I found the rom Im gonna try out, can u explain to me what is meant by flashing the rom and kernel and gaaps? This is my first root evall these terms and such confuse me and sepecially which mode to be in,if debugging needs to be on or off... learning rapidly tho, thank u

i'm too lazy to help you out... and you are too lazy to search it out... there are TONS of "how to flash your one v" in our threads... search for them - either here on Help and Troubleshooting or in General.
You copy the kernel on your desktop, put the phone in fastboot USB mode and in the all in one tool select flash kernel, browse to the kernel needed for the ROM you chose (make sure to read the threads for the Roma very well so you can learn about bugs they might have)
You need to copy the ROM and the halls (google apps) on your Sd card. Reboot in recovery, select wipe, and use only the following options: wipe cashe, wipe system, wipe dalvik, reset factory. I hope I remembered the names well. Now go to install and flash the ROM, like you did with superuser, and reboot the phone, the first boot can take up to 5 minutes so don't worry. After it boots conpletly you can go again in,recovery and flash gapps. I recommend that when you flash things, to do a reboot betweeen each program. Also, there's no need to use any of the wipe option. Wipe is only for when u change the ROM good luck

Did you do a full wipe (system, data, and cache) before flashing? Are you S-Off with AAHK or S-On with unlocked bootloader?

Yes, i did a full wipe before flashing...
I cant see if i´m S-ON or Off because i can´t go to the original boot menu, but i think its S-Off because the Rom that was in the phone before i messed with it was not the original

An unlocked bootloader with S-On still permits flashing of custom ROMs. Is your recovery updated? If not, do that.

The guide in post #7 of the guide in my signature is pretty clear. Read that. What is important to know is whether your phone is S-On bootloader unlocked or S-Off. Since you didn't hang on the boot splash when you flashed ARHD, I'm guessing S-Off. But just to be safe: to find this information, reboot while holding power and volume-down. That is your bootloader, known as hboot. What does it say? Finally, my hunch is that you need to update your recovery. The guide has instructions for that, but basically, download the image to your computer and flash it from fastboot.
Oh, and you may need to install your drivers on your computer. Install HTC Sync from the HTC website.

When you're tired, it's best to get some sleep. Most mistakes happen when sleepy and tired (been there!) so I'd suggest a little shut-eye and continue then
Sounds to me like the problem will get solved pretty soon, just read the guides and don't rush things. If unsure, read the guide (for what-ever you are doing) a second or a third time and don't try doing many things at the same time (ie.don't try updating your radio, rom, & recovery all at the same time ).
Pretty much anything can be fixed as long as you got recovery working so don't stress too much. Best of luck and hope you get your phone working soon :good:
Still havn´t found a solution for my problem, but i think i´m on to something....
I think the problem with my phone is the boot.img.... i can´t flash it correctly...
Dont know what program to use or what file to download.... i tried openning a command list but i and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as i´ve seen on other posts but i always get "this is not known as an internal or external command, etc...."
What can i doooooooooooooo?!!!! going crazy with this
Hey buddy, stay calm haha. I had the exact same problem. The problem is that although you tried to flash it, you nee to have the boot.img and some files including fastboot.exe. All of the files you need and how to flash the rom are in a guide by glevitan. You can just google it.

Then your drivers aren't working. Uninstall and reinstall with the phone unplugged.
