Yes if you want hotspot you'll have to go with a custom rom with it built in. I havent been able to find a hotspot hack that works on ff18 yet that you can flash independent of a full rom. But wireless tether for root users on market works just fine. Better than it did on my evo.

Yep it worked for me with stock/rooted ff18.

It works for ICS STOCK but the phone gets extremely hot after 15 mind of tethering...

To get stock you have to Odin in EC05 stock and then allow your phone to OTA to stock Gingerbread. The full tar has not been released. If you mean a Google ROM like Nexus...Nope. You bought a Touchwiz phone. It is so far imbedded that it breaks some things to remove it all. Have you tried CM7? 4G is not working yet but most other stuff is.

That is your best bet right now. I remember there was some work with froyo and AOSP ROM but don't see anyone working on one now for Gingerbread. Probably waiting on the full tar release.

You are going to have to do the ota update, or flash the tar posted in this forum via odin, you also will have to make sure you are using the sim that came with the device.

Thanks for the reply.
I flashed whitehawkx deodexed rom which is probably similar to yours... only problem with his was that the browser was unusable because it doesnt scroll or zoom out smoothly.
I am thinking of wiping and flashing this rom, but am curious to know if the browser bug exists.
Thanks again!
***EDIT***: been using this rom and it is very smooth with NO bugs. amazing work mr x!
Does anyone have a crt mod for this?

I meant to include that but forgot, didnt realize untill it was 99% uploaded. Once i get home ill add it, re upload the rom and upload a quick patch zip so you dont have to reload the whole rom.

If the CRT mod posted is a mod in the services.jar, flashing it will re-add some bits of ciq back into the rom.

Thanks for the head's up. Could you throw in a percentage mod maybe?
I'll wait for the uploaded with crt since I'm out and about anyhow.
Edit: I just checked with CIQ spy and that mod didn't add anything to my rom with ciq. I'm on whitehawkx's version atm. There are three files in the kernel (faux123's 006r2) but nowhere else. ?

Mr. X,
I am using your Telus ROM on a T-Mobile handset on the AT&T network. No problems at all so far.

With this new ROM specific to T-Mobile handsets offer anything above and beyond your Telus ROM for someone in my situation? I do not need the wifi calling.
Thanks.

TMobile WiFi Firmware update= Lost Root
Posted in General section on this too. I called TMobile to state I wanted WiFi calling. They enabled from their servers, but since I was NOT running stock ROM to enable WiFi calling from menu settings means as they wanted me to do, they sent me an update location to grab latest Kies software, which included a detailed post on manually upgrading and havibg WiFi calling. Software installed on PC. Ran the file which recognizes phone with USB cable plugged in. States it has firmware upgrade to enable WiFi calling. Ran the upgrade and it stated Ver 11.12.16.02 was running and installing Firmware upgrade on device SGH-T989(my 10 digit telephone number in parentheses).
The good news is after phone reboots, the familiar skip or learn about TMobile WiFi calling was on my screen. The bad news is I definitely do NOT have root anymore. Settings in about phone also shows the regular update ran :
Android 2.3.6
BaseBand T989UVKL1
Kernel 2.6.35.11
Build number GINGERBREAD.UVKL1
Sounds like I have to go and re-Route my phone but I'm unclear what this will do regarding WiFi calling in general.

I'd stick with the telus rom, the difference between android 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 is almost non existent and this rom will give you no features you can use.

This is because your PS3 will only find wifi that is infastructure. The wifi tether from your phone is ad-hoc. There is a way to tether infastructure, but i'm just not quite familiar with it right now cause i never need to do it; but running a search for "how to wifi tether infastructure" should easily populate some good results.
You need to use the hotspot hack for infrastructure mode. If you are on a stock odexed ROM you need to make sure you flash the odexed mod and flash the deodexed mod if you're on a deodexed ROM.
Try different wifi tether there is like beta 6 through 10 or put a ROM on phone with hacked wifi hot spot

Can sprint block hot spot on Rooted phone?

Has anyone had an issue with sprint blocking hot spot. Got a new phone and was updated to 4.3 already.. rooted it. Installed a Rom with it built in and no go. . Even tried downgrade and install old Rom to use the wifi hack mod and still a no go. . Any suggrstions
Make sure you odin the wifi fix from your pc if needed and also make sure you're on the mk4 modem prior to flashing the mk4 hotspot hack. Last but not least, you must be on a deodexed rom in order to flash the hotspot hack. If your rom is odexed then id bet that's your problem. Post back with your findings.

That rom is also deodexed so yes you can flash the hot spot hack and tether will work on Smooth rom. Like I said, I bet his problem is that his rom is odexed. Switch to a deodexed rom and flash the correct hotspot hack for your modem version and it will work.
Found this thread after G search.
I was experiencing very, very slow hotspot performance and thought maybe I had been throttled or something.
Running MOAR (love it!) and took the advice of @tx_dbs_tx and reflashed 1.4-NE5-DEODEX.
Back running smooth and fast.
Many thanks.

Hey thanks!.........
A stock rom
The closest to stock I found for 4.4.2 was Blazed ROM. It hasn't been rid of boat. Wi-Fi works too, I use it and use fennys updated kernel and WiFi hack. The blazed ROM comes with fennys first kernal.

You can hack the stock rom pretty easily to get the WiFi hotspot hack. You just need root and a little work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52794746&postcount=166
