which roms other than cyanogenmod support ad-hoc wifi ?
or any way to enable ad-hoc detection on ics 4.0.4 ??
my device is xperia arc s
I really dont know what ad-hoc is
sorry
did you mean wifi direct
ad hoc wifi means sharing your lan internet on your pc through wireless usb adapter like a wifi hotspot or from your laptop
but android phones with stock roms can't detect this connection , nokia and apple devices can

It's NOT ARC's problem, it's google android system doesn't support the ADHOC mode.
But it's annoying that android still doesn't support AD-HOC network. So if you want to use the phone with another ADHOC wifi spot, eg, my mobile broadband contract with unlimited data, ARC cannot "SEE" the ADHOC network. Any ideas?
There is something done on the system/bin/wpa_supplicant but that wouldn't apply to 2.3 system.
I need ad-hoc support too.. Anyone succeed to enable it ?
Anyone has any ideas on how to enable it ?
Nothing new about ad-hoc on xperia arc ? I tried to replace my wpa_supplicant with files from other ROMS, and it didn't worked.

plz help. i really need ad-hoc support
As far as i know, you need a wifi dongle with Access point capabilities and then you should install connectify on your pc, that should let it function as a wifi router, if not the only other option is buying a wifi router, which is pretty cheap nowadays.
i know that our Desire Z support DLNA, but i'm pretty bumped that it doesn't support seeing/connecting to ad-hoc networks... i need that because i want to connect the phone to my xbox, without connecting xbox to the internet... the only way to do it is to turn off internet connection from the router, and make xbox connect to it...
i made some tweaks to the wifi, but only got to a "place" where my wifi could see Ad-Hoc, but can't connect to it...
so my question is, did they add the feature to connect to Ad-Hoc networks on ICS??
thank you!

hi
i only can use my wifi in ad-hoc mode (in access point mode stability and speed getting ruind)
and stock rom andoid and based on stock roms (like arconium) has issue with ad-hoc (can't find them!)
so i use miui and miui roms are ok with ad-hoc
is there any way to use my ad-hoc wifi in stock roms?
I am sure Doomlord and other senior developers could port the CM or MIUI wifi to stock ROM......Guys please I have tried many tweaks on stock ROM but nothing worked for me to connect my ARC S to Ad Hoc network.

Ususally it should work.
You can share you're internet connection, but afaik you can also disable this.
tested and doesn't work .
it seems it's only for sharing phone internet . not using ad hoc wifi !

I've never tested it for not sharing your internet connection. I just know it from my X8, where you haven't had a wifi tether and so you could share over an ad hoc network.
But it creates a ad hoc connection, and you can't disable internet?

Does anyone know if it is possible to get wifi tethering working using an infrastructure system on the arc S? i have a device that i could do with connecting to it, but it doesnt connect to ad-hoc.
Does anyone know of a modified WPA_Supplicant file for the T-Mobile S3 TW JB 4.1 roms that would add the ability to see and connect to ad hoc networks? I've seen some for ICS but not JB. Maybe it exists but I just haven't found it yet.
My normal router recently burned out so I figured I'd use my computer with its separate wifi adapter to create an ad hoc network. Other laptops can see and connect to it (which is great with internet connection sharing) but my S3 cannot see it. That's the purpose of this question.
