You must root after unlocking. And install CWM recovery or some another. Then you put rom on your sdcard, do nandroid backup and wipe everything (format system, factory reset, format cache) and then install from zip. Everything through recovery. And for root, do it from some tutorial on xda and flash recovery too.

I rooted my 2.2 yesterday and lost usb charging and usb connection. I bought a sdcard reader and installed the pc36img file and reflashed my rom. When I rooted I did unrevoked3 and unrevoked forever. After flashing pc36img I rerooted with unrevoked3 and still show s-off on unrevoked forever. I did the OTA 2.2 update and lost root, I was able to flash clockwork mod. I am trying to get super user privilages back, so I did a nan backup and downloaded a few different roms. when I try to flash any rom i get stuck in a reboot loop. any help on what to do about loop problem or how I can get super user back would be awesome. thank you. :/

Hello guys, I would like to know how to update my ROM using dalvik cache? I have Foxhound ROM 0.3 and i would like to install the 0.4. Can anyone help me ?
Hi Mate
You don't update using the Dalvik Cache. The Dalvik Cache is just something that is best to clear before an update.
In order to flash a new ROM there are a few things you need to have set up on your computer and phone and they are well detailed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
Read the above thread and find out what has already been done. I think your phone will be Bootloader Unlocked and Rooted already. If so flash the latest Clockwork Recovery Mod CWM and then just download the ROM you want and store it on your phone. Once done you will be able to use the above link to easily write it to your phone using CRM and the Flash Update from SD Card Option.
Hope this helps.

Ummm. he doesn't have to read that thread..
Just simply download the ROM
Put it on your phone's storage
Boot into CWR
Wipe Dalvik and Cache
Flash ROM
[OPTIONAL] Flash Kernel (if you used one a custom kernel)

If you flash another rom, will your apps be wiped as well? And if you flash an update from the same rom? Just back-up with Titanium or? Thanks.

Apps are never wiped unless you wipe data/factory. Yes use titanium

Unlocking wipes it
Mod or Die
Got bored and flashed the new CWM. Flashing a new recovery image does not wipe the device.
What about stock removery

No. Unlocking the bootloader, super wipe, flashing a ruu, factory reset - they all wipe the phone

I have the following problem.
This was the situation:
I wanted to install a custom rom, so I did a full whipe, booted intoo bootloader, erased cache, flashed boot.img and going back to recovery to install the custom rom.
When I wanted to choose the rom on sd, it said: can't mount sd-card.
The only solution I found here on xda was to install the stock recovery, factory reset and flash again the custom recovery. And so I did.
SD-card is mounted, but all my data is lost!! So my question is, will there be a possibility to recover the data (not only photo's, video's and music).
Thanks in advance!

that's impossible..there are fake apps out there that pretends to do that but they do not work...
I was afraid of that answer, thanks for the confirmation!
This is what happened to me.
I was running Jellytime Rom very well on my DHD. Now i wanted to use another Rom (SVHD sense).
I WIPED DATA, CACHE, DALVIK CACHE, etc.
BUT..... I FORGOT TO DO NANDROID BACKUP. :crying:
After i flashed SVHD Rom, i rebooted. But i was seein my old Rom's boot animation and nothing after that.
So i rebooted into recovery again and NOW DID THE NANDROID BACKUP, WHICH I FORGOT.
Please help me what to do now. Is my phone bricked ?? If yes, please help me to unbrick it
Is your bootloader unlocked? If so read my signature.

I have rooted my DHD with Hack Kit and having S-OFF.
Then make sure your ROM downloaded correctly. Or flash another ROM.
Try reflashing your recovery.
From your original post, it seems as if you haven't done a full wipe
Presumably you're using 4EXT Recovery, go to the Wipe option & second from bottom is an option to wipe all partitions, use that & flash the ROM
