im about to sell my Desire and i need to go back to stock rom.
Its running Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition med 4EXT Recovery.
While installing a stock rom i got an error with the system files (see picture)
Now i cant do anyting it just shows me the HTC Logo with 4 white triangles with exclamation marks. i cant get in recovery or anything.
Does anyone have an idea for what to do ?
if u tried to run a ruu.exe file then it failed coz u still have CM7r2 hboot, u should of used the AlphaRev downgrader first. the CM7r2 hboot system partition is too small for the ruu

It should be easy.
Flash this in bootloader (Vol Dn + Power). Put the file on root of your SD Card. Then rename it to PB99IMG.zip
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-4hydAqepNwbUZqWUd0ZTlFaW8
Then then pull your battery off, and copy on your root of SD card file below. It is unrooted stock ROM for desire. Again, you have to rename this file to PB99IMG.zip and flash in bootloader. It should be working.
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-4hydAqepNwYkcwaFoySU9iX3M
I did this yesterday and was before using the same rom as you do. My proximity sensor does not work properly so I have to send my device to the service.

imo this is not fastboot flashing. Flashing from fastboot means putting the device in fastboot mode, connecting the PC with USB and executing the fastboot program with the img file as argument.

And how do you call it? You need to flash this two ZIP files from Fastboot (you do not need USB connection with PC or Andrid Flasher utility) when requested files are stored on SD card. When you enter fastboot mode it will search for file PB99IMG.zip and if found this on your SD card root it give you an option to flash it.

There are two modes during booting. One is the bootloader mode and the other is the fastboot mode. It is in bootloader mode (Vol Dn + Power) that PB99IMG.zip files are flashed.

You´re right. I changed this two terms by a misstake. My first post updated.
Anyway, this method it the easiest way how to unroot the phone that works (executable file RUU was not working for me in windows)
@xpeter88 what are the names of these file u are telling him to use?? u cant just tell some1 flash these n not say what they are. what hboot and what rom? lol and my computer blocked it, malware or something

Anyway getting to the OP as suggested by jmcclue you must:-
- download downgrade img from alpharev.nl.
-Flash it from fastboot.
-Download 2.3 RUU from shipped roms and run the exe from PC.

go here then kernel source code/ see downloads/ filter by device(desire) then under check other then find files. there u will have 2.3 upgrade for all desire (gsm)

The names you should be able to see
1. PB99IMG_downgrade from alpharev.nl ... http://alpharev.nl/PB99IMG_downgrade.zip
2. PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed from this forum. ....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
I just posted links from my folder, they surely are not infected. The reason of this is that I was on my Desire-tapatalk so I did not have time to look for the original sources of that files when I already have it stored on one place.

Yes, go ahead and flash that RUU, and if you have branded phone you'll get your desire stucked at hboot.
Jmcclue already told him what to flash, 2.3 RUU is made for all Desire versions, no matter of brand.

Im massively confused.
I would like to return my desire to stock, I've had nothing but signal problems since rooting and flashing another rom.
My phone was originally an o2 branded phone, so I have downloaded the RUU for the o2 (i'm guessing this includes the radio?) I've tried running the RUU and its gives me an error about my bootloader, I've just checked and the bootloader is 0.80.
Now this is where i'm getting confused, I can't wholeley remember what SDcard I made my goldcard. So do I need to make a new goldcard in order to compelte the Unroot or do I need to downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 using this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256 and then start again...
Or am I miles out?
Which ruu did you try?

You don't need a goldcard if you flash the ruu which was installed on your phone when you bought it.
So if you phone was o2 branded and you flash a o2 ruu , you don't need a goldcard. If you want to flash a wwe ruu (unbranded) you do.
Did you write down the exact firmware version before rooting?

I dont have a clue how to use either tbh, but Im willing to learn if its what I have to do to get this brick unbricked
Download the ruu again from the link eddy gave you.
Then use EddyOS his instructions about extracting the .zip file from the .exe you just downloaded.
You can extract the ROM.zip from any RUU to install via ZIP
Start the RUU and once at the first main screen click Start>Run and type
%temp%
now, find the newest folder and in there will be a ZIP file called Rom - copy this to your desktop and rename it PB99IMG. (Don't extract the file) Now copy this to your SD card and start the phone in HBOOT (turn it on whilst holding volume down). It will find the file and start the update. Just follow the instructions...
Do all this while not plugged into your computer. Not sure if it will work, but it's worth a shot.

Hi!
I USB-Bricked my Desire PVT4. Now it is with HBoot 1.02 and official unrooted Gingerbread 2.3.3.
I tried common methods, but I cant get access to write misc partition.
I got my SD card working with fastboot oem enableqxdm 0. I made a valid mtd0 Image etc... but after copy the flash_image, rageagainstthecage and mtd0 the terminal emulator wont run after stopping the task.
Cant downgrade HBoot without root. Alpharev (revolutionary4-4) needs USB running in ROM.
I did following steps to unbrick (with help of "Leinad"):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955845
Cant pass step 5! Relaunching the Terminal Emulator fails! Doesnt open anymore. I read, that writing Misc partition in HBoot 1.02 is not possible using this method.
Need working method for HBoot 1.02 with official Gingerbread 2.3.3 in order to USB-unbrick my Desire!
Any ideas?
Please !!!! I need help!!!!!
Thanx guys

Which ROM should be included in pmg99.zip?
An ruu is an htc utility that restore everything to stock
as u are usb bricked and can't run the ruu from the pc, u can use a PB99IMG.zip
is it basically what an ruu contain inside the exe
so the steps are:
1) run the gingerbread ruu 2.3.3 without plug the phone..start the exe go next till it ask to plug the phone or something
2) then from windows/run write %temp% and search a rom.zip file
3) rename it as PB99IMG.zip (ensure is not .zip.zip)
4) with an microsd card reader put it in the root of ur sdcard (not in any folder)
5) switch off the phone (pull the battery and plug in again just to be sure)
6) boot the phone in bootloader mode by pressing and holding vold down + press and hold power button..hold both untill u go in a menu with a white screen
7) after some seconds it should ask u automatically to flash the update..the choice yest with volume keys, then confirm yes with the power button
the update will restore everything, so u will lose everything in the phone (not in the sdcard)..ensure to have enough battery..thats it
EDIT: just edit this, check it

Yes, I tried the PB99IMG.zip method several times.... Verification failed... (works with official GB 2.3 but there is still USB Brick )
I also tried changing rom.zip of official RUU to downgrade but it did not work.
Too bad that revolutionary needs USB in running Android
In Fastboot USB is running fine....
Would be great if there is a way to downgrade via Fastboot!!!

You have cm7r2 hboot which gives you only 145MB for system partition and RUU requires stock partition table (250MB for system).
Flash alpharev stock hboot via fastboot, it can be obtained here:
alpharev.nl
After that run RUU, it should work perfectly.
Plus:
Reconsider using some other RUU the one you used is history old. Try with 2.3 RUU.

so you mean that your phone still in stock right..?
while you installing that RUU before..is that already finish..?
did you already tried flashing that RUU again...?, maybe you can try it to flashing it that RUU again but now is tried flashing it from your bootloader..
to do that you must go to bootloader and select FASTBOOT..then connecting it your phone to pc until indicator is FASTBOOT-USB..then try open cmd from your adb / sdk folder..then typing "fastboot oem rebootRUU"..then after that..you can try running again RUU.exe from your computer..and wait until finish..then just tell me if that success booting or not..
hope this help..

firstly remove your phone serial number and imei from the attachment picture...avoid someone can cloning your phone...
you can try download this RUU from here..
after that without connecting your phone to pc..firstly you must find the rom.zip file from that RUU.exe..to do that..
just running that RUU.exe until two steps next..then hold there..do not continued and do not closed that..just let it open..then open your explorer..
C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Temp\[here you will find a lot folder like this "{5CAD3393-EEC0-44CE-9F93-BCAA365B77FB}"] ..search the latest folder by date..and inside that folder you will find subfolder like that again..open it..here you will see the rom.zip file..just copied the rom.zip file to another location...then after that you can cancel and close it RUU.exe
rename it the rom.zip file to "PD98IMG.zip" then copied to the root directory of your sd card (do not place it in any folder)..you can using card reader to copied that file..
after that...just put it in back your sd card to your phone..then boot up your phone to bootloader..then let the bootloader check it the PD98IMG.zip file..and wait until they ask to updating it..just confirm it with volume up..then wait until finish and ask you to confirm reboot with pressing power button..after that if your phone is already success a booting normal again..you must remove it the PD98IMG.zip file from your sd card..

that's so weird things...
what if you try too installing that RUU.exe like normal way...i mean just connecting your phone with pc (select FASTBOOT mode from your bootloder) then running that RUU.exe until finish..
if that still fail too...then another way is you can try it to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev.com first..then after that you can continued installing custom recovery like 4ext, twrp or cwm..and then installing custom rom..
to unlock your bootloader via htcdev.com...firstly you must update your hboot version to 2.00.0029...that hboot update file is already in there site..just follow instruction from site it self..

Dear all,
I have been looking around the forums and downloaded a few things and looked at various solutions, but I am stuck at the first hurdle.
I have been given an htc Desire Bravo that just will not boot. I do not know how it failed originally but I can only get it into the boot screens, either the fastboot/hboot logon ot the 5 buzzes and the htc logo lock. Also it takes about 30 minutes with the battery out after every failed boot attempt to restart the boot screen.
I have run adb but it cannot tell me a cid number, I have a micro sd card in it but it does not have the pb99diag.zip on it. When I put such a file on the sd card it does not find it. Communication via adb and the phone has varied success. I suspect it is drivers and what I read is an old adb bug where server is out of date.
I have never done this before this weekend so please be gentle with me!
If I can get it to work, even to use it like a wifi tablet without phone I would be happy. I am in the UK and if we have real success I would get it on tesco PAYG
I get the "cannot find pb99diag.zip etc" dialogue when going into hboot.

After you s off u can flash hboot the easy way but first s off.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Free mobile app
If u phone does not boot then u can NOT s-off, ur phone needs to be booted.. also if ur s-on and not rooted then all u can do is flash a ruu.
Did u try factory reset from bootloader menu? Try that first, u never know but chances r ul prob need to ruu a ruu.

Hi jmcclue,
Thanks for the comments. I can boot to the HBoot and Fastboot screens, thats how I could find the S-ON and version data. If I get it to reboot, I get either a white screen with just "htc" on it, or 5 buzzes and a screen with no life at all. I am hopeful to get it to S-OFF as I have had some communication through the usb to pc connection. I am not sure if I can do an RUU update as I don't seem to have a CID. I do not have a factory reset option on the HBOOT screen. I have tried clear storage but that has no effect. Perhaps I need the S-OFF first.
Cheers again,
A
Use the 2.3gb update ruu its wwe (world wide english) so dont worry bout cid. U can find it in bortaks troubleshooting guide in resources section and its naned 2.3.3 ruu. U will find it easy enough in google aswell. Search for "htc desire 2.3gb update" its a exe file so just boot ur phone into fastboot, plug in ur phone and run the ruu, hopefully it willvwork. Im a bit worried tho about the 5 vibrations u get, maybe a sign of hardware failure. But try that ruu anyway. And again u can not get s-off unless ur phone is fully working/booted.

Well that was a bit wierd
If anyone can see where I went wrong, feel free to say.
I could not seem to get the link between the phone and the pc so I removed the htc sync and restarted the pc. I could then connect to the phone in some way as abd gave a command error when I sent a fastboot oem readcid which it normally does. So leaving it in fastboot with usb I ran the wwe~.exe file and it all seemed to be doing installing. There were tens of installations going to the phone I guess each reaching 100%. Suddenly I had a web page popup in my browser s.rev2pub.com/ul_cb/player.html?a=19471543&context=c23573548&size=800x600&rt=popunder&ci=10&cb=[CACHEBUSTER] recommending I download latest drivers. The wwe ruu vanished and I have no continuing processes in Task manager that I can see.
So, should I have installed in hboot? Thankfully I can still get the phone to power on. What should happen after the exe file installs?
I am able to get some response from the phone as adb devices returns the phone device number. So I hope I can try again.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks

Hey Adrian, I had the same problem as you did, hopefully I can be of help.
First, like everyone else is saying you will need S-OFF.
To do this head to this site on your PC revolutionary.io hit download for windows or Linux or whatever your pc is running, then you will need to fill out information about your device (see attached screenshot). Device, HBoot number, and serial number, (the serial number can be found behind the battery of your device). Once you have done that, click "Generate Key". it will give you a key, remember it or write it down.
Then, open the file that was downloaded, and extract the contents to your documents and Run the revolutionary( should look like the screenshot attached). Plug your device in (assuming you have the drivers) and it should ask you to enter the beta key we had before. Enter that and hit enter. it will then S-off your Desire and soon ask if you would like to install a custom recovery. hit Y and then enter, once that is finished, unplug your device and in HBoot go to "Recovery". Now you can flash a ROM of your choice.
Hopefully I made sense!
Best of luck

Can I confirm that I can do this from the HBOOT screen or the fastboot screen? Also where jmmclue said if I can't boot then I can't S-Off, does that mean boot to the HBOOT screen or into Android? Then if I want to load say WWE, do I put that on a microSD to get it to recover?

Thanks lilsafbig, that was a little too ambiguous to understand, but I have a few developments.
I am able to communicate to some degree with adb between phone and pc. Before I was unable to get anything back but now with the right syntax I have got back the CID as HTC_001 and the device number. But when I run revolutionary from the fastboot USB screen the revolutionary continues to wait for the device to show. Is it likely that USB degugging was off prior to the failure, is there a way to get it on. I suggest this as when I connect it to my pc it recognizes the device and shows in the device manager as an htc unspecified device (this is progress). As I cannot boot android it does not show as an additional drive in file manger. when I try some of the fastboot oem commands I get bad command errors, whilst fastboot getvars is ok. Could this be why I cannot get revolutionary to S-OFF!
Thanks
additional info, when usb is in an in fastboot usb, the device manager sees it as android 1.0

If you can still get to bootloader / fastboot screen, then you are rarely ever bricked.
1. Ignore anything and everything to do with revolutionary and fastboot for now. I'm afraid the first few posts while trying to be helpful have been misleading. Get your phone booting up into Android OS first, i.e. into a stock ROM using an RUU
2. Use the 2.3.3. GB RUU, nothing else, it doesn't need a goldcard or care about CID etc.
3. Download it from the bottom here, then use Bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of Q&A, Point [7] to run it as a PB99IMG.zip from the root of your sdcard. That way you don't need to run it through USB or care about what drivers are installed.
Thank you Eddie, I will try that. I did try flash a PB99IMG.zip before with no success but I will try again.
I found it here Official Stock Sense Gingerbread_v1.2 GB-2.3.3_A2SD – http://androidba.se/J7 for desire (neophyte)
I hope it can work out ok. I guess I format the sd card to fat32 not ext4
Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks,

That did not work because the file is not an RUU...it is a stock rooted custom ROM with A2SD (the clue is in the name). It is designed to flashed in recovery like any other ROM. Renaming it to PB99IMG.zip won't do anything.
Use the actual shipped roms RUU link provided.
Reformat your sdcard to a single FAT32 partition if necessary, then follow Method [7] of the guide, place only the PB99IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard (not in any folder)
