Honestly I dont need 4g or lte as thry generate way too much heat. Is there a mod to force our phones to use 3g instead??
I think this may help in both battery life and heating up.
My s2 x hercules using 4g didnt heat up as bad...
Its just too hot for me since the antennae is heating on the place we hold the phone in portrait mode
Anyone can point me on the right direction??
Maybe I can play around with the RIL???

Well, the easiest way is flashing the JellyBean 4.1.1 rom from cyanogenmod, I get HSPDA and 3G on it and I wish I had 4gLTE. The rom doesn't seem to have much issues. I am using it as a daily driver and it is pretty good.
Well, the Rogers version has the switch under Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Dunno about telus, but I'm pretty sure it should be there otherwise you'll need to flash a custom ROM to make this happen as suggested above or use an APN with the 3G settings instead of the LTE settings...
I would have got the international version if I didn't want the device to get the blazing data speeds LTE can offer.
It would be a useful tool to have for our LTE devices though. Since not everyone wants or has LTE anyway. I plan on keeping LTE on but to each there own.
i love LTE speeds, makes the experience completely different than the international ( i know i have both). But the battery drain on LTE is maddenly and the heat is quite disturbing.

Hi, i'm an Motorola Defy ex-user.
This week i'm gettin' this phone and i'm reading a lot but i'm still have some questions.
Is there at&t version roms to N1? or can i use anyone avaible?
I'm askin' because i'm afraid to lose 3G using some an incompatible rom. Or there is not any chance to lose 3G modding this phone?
You may notice that english is not my native languaje, so be understandable with me.
No there is no specific roms for the at&t version.
They all work just fine. I have the at&t one and every roms 3g works for me.

Just make sure you get att version of the phone if you want att 3g. And vice versa for tmobile.
Roms do not matter its the radios inside the actual phones that matter.
And this is the WRONG forum by the way.

Rogers I747M
Question to those with the Rogers I747M running stock.
When you get connected to LTE, does the on screen data indicator show 4G or LTE?
I unlocked my phone to get it onto the MTS LTE (Manitoba) network, but it's only showing up 4G and want to know if maybe Rogers modified the software to not display an LTE icon like the manual shows.
On a side note, the MTS LTE network SUCKS. So far I'm barely getting any good speeds and MTS claims everything is fine on the network side. I will continue to talk with them to hopefully get better speeds. If there's any MTS LTE members here, if you're getting good speeds, feel free to give me tips!
Cheers!

the force switch from LTE -> 3G when a call comes in is causing problems
Anyone else see their phone take too long to switch from LTE to 3G when a call comes in? This results in the person calling getting rings and then voicemail, but no missed call on your device. It only happens when the LTE->3G switch takes a bit to get started...but I'm noticing it quite a bit.
I called AT&T and they just "reset" my account, but that had little effect. What gives??

They are still working on the tower. I know a co-worker with the exact same problem who talked with AT&T. I heard that it might be a week before the problem is fixed. I'm on the UCLH1 modem myself, and haven't had any issues so far with texts, while she's on the UCLG1, if that means anything.

When I first got my galaxy s3, telus said it would come with 4g lte. It worked well and on the top notification section, it specifically said, 4g lte. Now I'm trying out custom roms and such, and I downloaded CM10. However, on CM10, the icon no longer says 4g lte, but it says H+. When I revert back to my old rom, it doesn't say 4G (i ahven't seen it say LTE at the end yet though). Anyone can tell me why my data connection has been demoted, or if it has been demoted at all? Should I just give Telus a call and ask whats up with this?
And yes, LTE is available in my area, I'm in Vancouver.

After a pretty serious amount of searching, I still haven't been able to find a straightforward explanation of what works on which Note 2 on which network as far as 3G/4G service goes. (There was only one that came close, and it still didn't seem to actually be complete.) While the consensus seems to be that the T-Mo phone is the most flexible, what I've been able to cobble together is that the answer is much closer to "depends on what you want to use it for." (Duh, right?) So here's what I understand so far -- please feel free to correct me if I have any of this wrong, and I'll update (or if you think carriers/devices should be added to the list, comment with sources and I'll add on the info):
----
T-Mo T889 (stock unlocked): up to 42 MBps DC-HSPA+ on T-Mobile network (1900MHz); up to HSPA on AT&T network (trying to verify)
AT&T i317 (stock, unlocked): LTE on 700MHz on AT&T network (and future AWS when AT&T gets around to deploying); EDGE on T-Mobile network
T889 with T-Mo LTE unlock (est. Spring 2013): may possibly also enable LTE on AT&T network.
T889 with flashed AT&T radio (or NV partition edit): unknown -- no success to date. Hypothesized that it may enable LTE on AT&T network.
i317 with flashed T889 radio (or NV partition edit): loses AT&T LTE capability; gains HSPA+ (non-DC) on T-Mobile network (DC yet to be verified?)
No idea as to what would happen if/when an i317 can be flashed with a post-Spring 2013 T-Mo radio.
----
So the conclusions I seem to draw from this are:
If you want guaranteed highest speeds out of either service today, and some possibility of T-Mo LTE support in the future, get the AT&T phone and get used to playing around with radio swaps.
If you want the guaranteed highest speed out of T-Mo in a few months (and now, obviously), and some possibility of getting the highest speed out of AT&T (aka LTE) whenever xda-developers' ingenuity figures it out, get the T-Mo phone.
How does this sound to you guys?

Short answer, AT&T Note 2 can get full speed HSPA+ on T-Mobile and LTE on AT&T... I currently have it that way... You need to activate AWS bands on NV partition... I also have the T889 and the T889 can do the same... Remember what I have been telling since day 1... They are both the same phone... Just with different signals pre activated by their respective carriers...

As I understand it the note 2 is the first phone to have all the different model have the same physical design and the software is very close to the same as well. I beleive that there are two internatinal ones the gsm and lte. All the us versions are based off the lte one so they are all very similar. I think we even have a few roms in the dev section now that are based off sprints rom. I could be wrong though. I was a little confused at first because usually on tmo our phone would be based off the gsm interntinal but not this time.
I gotta say I am really happy with samsung. And I am impressed with what they have accomplished with this phone and the sgs3. They told the carriers to go to hell and did it their way this time. I think they were able to do it because android is like 60% of the worlds cell phone market and samsung is like 75% of android sales. I am sure the numbers are off but I remember reading about that last year. Sorry to go off topic a little bit.

Uh, that's his point. And mine, for that matter. AT&T only so far - meaning my OP is currently correct. Nobody has done it on T-Mo (at least that has reported it here). "Hardware is the same," yeah, we all know that, but we also know the software isn't, so it's a matter of what we've actually tried and succeeded with and have confirmation of.
When somebody actually reports a success with T-Mo they can confirm, I'll update.

Sorry, poor assumption on your part. I found that. Did you read past the first post? First post says DC works (which was an edit, apparently yesterday) but post 3 says it only indicates DC, no actual speed bump to DC or 42 speeds. Lots of failures on that thread too. So I listed what worked for the OP. If you'd like to confirm dual-5MHz operation (which you didn't explicitly when you posted your success in that post), maybe some screenshots of the speed change if you have them, that should be fine and I'll edit.

Posts like yours aren't much better than trolling. What did it add to the conversation? Search for what?
If you'd actually searched and read the numerous threads across both the i317 and T889 forums, including both the General and Q&A sections, like I have, you'd see multiple claims of it works, or it doesn't work, and varying methods described with people saying they work and don't work. TEKHD has bounced back and forth multiple times on this, along with a few others.
I was just asking for clarification that this was done on a T889 or not, since TEKHD said in the post I was replying to that it does, but in the thread he linked he said it didn't.
This is a T889 forum, isn't it? What do the users of the T889 care about an i317 hack unless the same hack will work for us?

Ah ok... so i just got ATT today and am using it on my tmobile note 2. DO I need to do anything at all to be getting the best speeds or is it getting the fastest it can right now until someone gets LTE working>?
I hope you guys can help me, I'm frustrated already, I bought an AT&T SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 and also purchased an unlock code, phone was working just fine with 4g on AT&T ( Tested ) but after unlocking I just don't get service when I use a T Mobile or Simple Mobile SIM.
On the About Phone -> Status I do get "Network: T-Mobile/Simple Mobile" ( Depending on the SIM I use ), but I don't even get EDGE, I cant make calls, I get the annoying emergency calls only, its making me crazy. Is there a way to fix this issue?
( I already added the APN settings, but im sure I don't need that to make calls, or get EDGE, I don't know what else to do to fix this ).
Thanks

Im confused... do you have a T-mobile Note 2? or a N7100? I beleieve the N7100 is the AWS International one, the Tmobile Note 2 is T889... or you could have an N7100 ROM flashed on a T889 (which existed in order to get 4.1.2 before the Tmo release).
I did a search and got nothing.
I've been around here and not sure I understand the subtleties.
The AT&T and T-Mobile hardware seems to be identical or very similar.
Currently, I've got an AT&T GN2 rooted, unlocked and flashed to the t-mobile bands... at least the 4g ones.
I'm thinking about ROMing it and I'm trying to wrap my head around whether it is better to flash a T-Mobile ROM (perhaps getting more compatibility with the network and services) or flashing an AT&T ROM that is, presumably, more attuned to my phone.
Any info that the big brains around here have would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
The roms are pretty much the same minus the bloat.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I have an I317 with triple sim card adapter and sold my T889... I have installed 100's of roms over time... (On many Note 2's of course) And I can say that the Note 2 TMobile roms are more stable and offer faster network connectivity plus they have wifi calling... (if using a TMobile sim it comes handy...)

I have an unlocked AT&T i747 on T-mobile's $30 100 min unlimited text, and 5GB 4G data plan.
It is running a fitsnugly nightly build of CM 10.1 for d2att
Was previously running Leankernel and now i'm running Ktoonsez's kernel
I unlocked using this method.
The Issue: My signal switches between H+, 3G, E, and rarely G. All while being in the same spot. It spends 90% of the time on E.
This happens in areas of great reception, indoors and out.
Rarely will H+ happen and 3G is very sporadic too.
I live in the heart of a major city (Boston) where T-mobile is prepping LTE so I can get their 3G/4G on the refarmed 1900MHz and without AWS.
My IMEI is listed in the status section.
What I've tried:
Before doing any modding of my phone, I previously backed up my EFS/IMEI with Andromizer (XDA link). Restoring it hasn't changed anything.
Changing network modes (LTE/WCDMA, LTE/GSM/WCDMA, GSM/WDCMA preferred)
Enabling/disenabling data roaming
Changing APN settings (The choices were T-Mobile US and T-Mobile US LTE)
So would flashing Tmobile radios help? Tmobile/d2tmo ROMs?
TL;DR: MY ATT I747 ON TMOBILE WONT KEEP THE H+ OR 3G SIGNAL AND IT SUCKS AND MAKES ME WANT TO CRY. PLZ HELP PLZ PLZ PLZ
Seriously though, any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone! If you need anymore info Just let me know.
That "free" unlock method always made me suspicious and I've seen other complaints like this...

This is pretty frustrating. I changed my modems to an older ATT one, and now I only get 3G sporadically and 90% of the time its on G. So odd...
Also I'm pretty sure I'm specifically not supposed to flash a T-mobile modem....
