nothing for me yet; last update i received it 5 days after most received it

The most significant news in this update is this item:
- Optimized LTE system selection

Apparently one cause of the negative experience in the first LTE rollout markets is that handsets had been programmed to downshift from LTE to EVDO at a threshold signal strength for LTE that was too high. So many users couldn't get an LTE connection or hold on to in. (See this article at S4GRU.)
The other big factor was skimpy tower coverage at the time of launch. The handset factor magnified this problem.

Any way we can download it via odin because it not showing up in my phone yet.

But you are running a custom ROM. I see that build LG8 is floating around here.
LG4 is announced as an OTA update for stock.

no the zip my phone downloaded says its lg8....the file says 04646f9535b3.update_sph-L710_LG2_to_LG8.zip

If anyone is looking for the RDF from Sprint, you can find it here:
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-L710/LG8.rdf
Looks like LG8 is real as there is an RDF page for it. I don't know who is and isn't familiar with these, but we used/found RDF pages for the Epic frequently around upgrade OS time. Most of them are test builds, but it shows a lot of information about that release.
For example, if you change the last part of the URL to LG4.rdf, you'll get a page too as that's a legit build from Sprint. However, if you change it to LG9.rdf you get nothing as that build doesn't exist.
I don't know exactly what the number means but L must be for 2012 and G is for July. I'm assuming the number stands for the build (not necessarily a specific date) of that month. So the first build in August would probably be LH1.
Since we don't have any OS updates on the horizon yet, these may not do much good, but once we start hearing more about Jelly Bean, we'll at least know when Sprint starts working on it.
And FWIW, it's formatted nicely when using IE but I know some browsers don't format those pages well at all. I'm forced to use IE at work, so it's a bummer for 99% of things.

Something is wrong. Maybe Sprint just botched the announcement. Let's hope they didn't actually foul up the OTA.
EDIT: Sprint rep online now says they are checking.

I don't even have lg3

There was no LG3 released. The last official release was LG2.

Heh, I saw that literally about two minutes after I posted that. I'm into the habit of not checking General often because it was such a mess before...looks like I need to start jumping in there more often now that the separated all the carriers out.

Sprints now says it is LG8 after all
Sprint just corrected their announcement "for date and version number.". It is LG8 after all.
Release notes seem the same:
- KI – Touch Wiz home has stopped

When someone flashes this please post anything negative hat might have changed like Google taking away some functionality like they did in LG2 or if signal level, and download speed or something else is messed up.

My phone got quite warm when running the update and rebooting, since it had to rebuild lots of stuff during the first boot. It seems fine now.

4.1 Update - CDMA Only? Looks like it was just released?

It looks like there's a 4.1 update that may contain some new radio firmware and other changes - I haven't heard anything about 4.1 for the GSM version, but I doubt they would keep CDMA and GSM phones on completely seperate versions of Android. Do any devs or other important people know anything about this?

Yeah, but all LTE Nexus out right now are prototype devices, not retail models. The update may be available to both GSM and LTE owners when the LTE version finally launches.

I doubt Google have anything that could be considered a major release already.
Looks like a mistake or intentional padding to diferentiate Them.
P3droid and I both have test devices that get pushed the latest test builds directly from Google.
We are well ahead of the release version.
Sweet. So I take it none of this is going to drop anytime soon? I'm just curious, I haven't even found anything wrong with my Galaxy nexus yet

I'm talking major revision in the ICS branch, not 5.0/Jelly Bean/Whatever.
But if it's a version in testing it is of course plausible that it is a major revision, i didn't read the links and thought it was retail devices with it.
It's 4.1 and has significant enhancements...I would call it a major revision.

like what? do you have both versions of GN to compare them?
I think 4.1 at API level 15 would make sense. (But would be for both GSM and CDMA) The AOSP 4.0 code makes some reference to something explicitly to be added in API level 15 but not available in 14 (ICS 4.0 is API level 14). And there's the Android Dreams/screensaver (Rocket Launcher) thing that is clearly there but not documented or normally accessible (Though it's in the API 14 support lib...).
With Honeycomb Google did 3.0 (API 11), 3.1 (API 12) and 3.2 (API 13). Then ICS 4.0 at API level 14. It'd make sense for them to do major.minor.bugfix with minor updates being an API change or feature additions.
(Also there was Eclair 2.0 (API 6?) and then Eclair 2.1 (API 7))
However they also did Gingerbread 2.3 at API level 9 and Gingerbread 2.3.3 at API level 10 rather than making it 2.4.
No , we both have LTE engineering models.
There is a new clockscreen screensaver mode when charging that shows the time and opens the screen if you touch the time display. Also many internal framework changes as well. subtle but nonetheless noticeable changes in the UI. It's really nice...and we just got another update that I haven't had a chance to load yet...just got off work.

Hmm...interesting. Sounds like 4.1 is needed for the docks to work properly, since they need landscape orientation and with no power button access. Looks like the docks were designed with these features in mind, but they couldn't finish the features in time.
Oh gosh, this means I have to suffer through another update availability Check Now stress soon.

Any thoughts of device performance after the update?
This is interesting. It implies that Google are doing what they did with Eclair (release 2.0 and then release 2.1, which was a major release, but not major enough for a new desert name). It's also obviously what they did with Honeycomb, a la 3.0, 3.1, 3.2. Weirdly, it wasn't done with Gingerbread. (I think 2.3.1-2.3.7 could have been all put together as 2.4, but hey).
Also, nice changes. Can't wait to see official release documents on it
Last nights update was very minor, no significant changes. I just loaded it this morning so I haven't had time to really use it yet, sorry.
Edit: they removed the clockscreen saver mode when charging. Probably intended for dock mode rather than simply with charger connected. There was a minor bug with facelock when first unlocking screen by touching the clock.
Will report back any other changes found while using it today.

[MODEM] Complete Modem List for both I747U & I747M

NOTE: If anyone has any further questions about modems on the S3, please note that I have moved on to another device. Sorry!
Hello XDA!
I’ve taken over this thread, and I’m going to try to keep things a bit more organized.
First, you need to identify your model; This is fairly simple, you just need to either know what carrier it came from, or have the box it came in. If your phone came from AT&T, it’s an I747U. If your phone is from a Canadian carrier such as Telus, Rogers, Bell, Fido, Koodo, Sasktel, or MTS, you probably have an I747M. If you’re unsure, look on the bottom of the box it came in; Canadian models should all say SGH-I747M, while I believe AT&T models only say SGH-I747. Please let me know if yours says something different.
Things you’ll need:
- Root (Technically you don't.)
- Custom recovery (See my signature for help with this!)
- The ability to click “Search” when you need help
- A basic ability to read
- And most importantly, a GALAXY S3 I747!
All modems posted in this thread will be flashable ZIPs, usable in either ClockworkMod or TWRP.
How to flash:
1. Choose a firmware from below and download it to your device’s SD card or internal storage.
2. Reboot into your custom recovery.
3. Select the option to “Install” (same as installing a ROM) and locate the ZIP from step 1.
4. After flashing, clearing your cache and dalvik cache is strongly recommended.
5. Reboot and enjoy!
Modems are listed in the following format:

Call Display w/ Name not working after updating? Check this post. (Note: This doesn't affect names saved in your phone, only names that are obtained via your carrier's "Call Display Name" feature.)
F.A.Q.
Q: What is a modem, anyway?
A: The modem is the chip inside your phone that controls the connection to the cellular towers. This is a collection of different firmware versions for that chip.
Q: Firmware…?
A: Firmware is a type of software that directly controls how a piece of hardware operates. It’s a bit like a driver on your computer. (Yes, I’ve oversimplified this. Wikipedia can tell you more.)
Q: Which one do I use?
A: Make sure you’re using one for the correct model; Beyond that, it’s completely up to you. Results will vary from location-to-location, and even device-to-device. Try them yourself and see which one works best for you. (Note: Some people say that their reception gets better over time if they let the firmware “settle”. This doesn't make much sense, as the firmware doesn’t work like that, but feel free to try anyway.)
Q: I flashed the wrong model’s firmware, am I screwed?
A: Probably not. Just reflash the correct firmware and clear your dalvik cache, and you’ll probably be back in business. In worst-case situations, I’ve seen a phone require a full ROM reinstall including wiping /data, but that’s the price you pay for not reading the directions.
Q: Can I install this if I am not rooted?
A: Technically, root is not required for this, but how do you plan on getting the custom recovery on there without root?
Q: Will this give me LTE?
A: If you’re not getting LTE now, you probably won’t get any different results with a different firmware. Check your carrier’s network map to ensure you have LTE coverage in your area.
Q: My data/voice/SMS performance is much worse with X firmware…
A: Try another! Keep track of which ones you’ve tried and post back here with your results. It’s even more helpful if you give us your general location along with your results.
Q: My phone says “4G”, but my speeds are terrible… Will a different modem firmware fix this?
Short A: Maybe, but probably not.
Long A: Are you still on a carrier-built ROM? Carrier ROMs “lie” to you and label HSPA (which is a 3G technology) with a “4G” badge. This was a marketing ploy long before LTE ever existed. Now that everyone’s used to being on “4G” networks, they needed to come up with a way to differentiate LTE as something “new”, so they kept “4G” as the label for HSPA, and have added the “4G LTE” label for when you’re actually getting real 4G service. Most custom ROMs fix this, and properly tell you if you’re getting “3G”, “H”(for HSPA), “H+” (for HSDPA or HSPA-DC), or “4G” (for LTE). Flashing the modem firmware can't fix this specific problem.

Thanks for this. I must say, I tried out the lh1 modem. I live in Philly and for reasons I don't understand, it doesn't work so well for my area. When I did speed tests on it, all the servers that were able to connect to were all for the Midwest region of the USA. Lg1 seems to work best for me in the mid-Atlantic region. Just my observation so far and figured I'd pass it on in case someone was wondering.

[Q] has anyone got the samsung firmware update?

I stopped by the other S4 forum (i9500/i9505) and noticed users reporting a new firmware update. Some mentioned faster transitions and camera updates as well as some other things.
Has anyone got a Ota of this? Or would we (T mobile) not get it?
Also wondering... if your rooted, would you even get a notification about it?
Thnx

The firmware of the international version is not the same as firmware released by carriers. Carriers add a lot of stuff to their firmware and they do their own testing on them. It may take months for a carrier to release an update after the international version got it.
Since this is a new phone, I am sure T-Mobile will eventually release an update (most likely several updates). Just be patient.

Edit: Okay I found it quicker than I thought I would, lol. Here's the link, hope it helps:

Thanks for the clarification and info guys.
Definitely patient.. I dont have many issues w my s4 except home key timing, so I was hoping for fix.
Maybe some one can take a look at new firmware and see if there is any info within that could benefit our (tmo) devices?
I would do it but im not as proficient and knowledgable as some of our other members.

I have the i9500 and got the update a few days ago. The description from the update manager was "improved stability" which means they are ironing out the kinks. Another thing that is going to be updated and will surely be on your variant is locked kernels. This is a kernel level that blocks superuser from even executing code. Workarounds will have to be found/kernels compiled.

if you're referring to the home button lag, then just disable s voice like everybody else did, even back in the days of the S3. go into the s voice app and hit the settings button on lower left of your phone, then tap settings, then un-check the 2nd option "open via the home key".
as far as updates, t-mo is usually the 1st or 2nd carrier to get it in the US, but nothing yet. i'm hoping they'd fix the camera shutter lag that i love from the old s3. sigh...

Boring 4.3 update

I loaded the 4.3 leak and its smooth and runs great but I don't notice anything else but the flare/light lock screen, not even a themed out dialer or more features with Messaging app, like more bubbles or background options. I really was hoping for a revamped UI for TW but samsung kept it the same. Might as well just call it 4.2 since we didn't see 4.2 on our devices, except the i9300. But as I play with the leak on my phone its just too boring. Sorry but Samsung had us skip 4.2 to give us 4.3, I know its just a leak but how much different will the actual release be? not much.
That's why I flash CM roms to give it a different look on my phone. So glad I rooted my phone. Any way I thought I just vent a bit on the so called update that looks totally the same as 4.1
Yeah this is exactly why I'm going Nexus 5.
But I don't think 4.3 had many visual changes aside from the WiFi connection bars and tabbed settings. That being said it definitely brought along a vast improvement over GPU rendering, better battery life, and overall smoothness.

Yeah you're right. far as smoothness it is better. far as visual its not attracting. But the phone runs faster and not a big fan of toggles. I hope to get on the N5.
That's the thing, not much change from 4.1 to 4.3 visually, even with stock android. Trim support should keep or system running smooth tho

Thats true sometimes all those apps that come with the rom I never use. But I don't understand whats "knox" and I do like the samsung apps like calendar, notes, music apps. I just hope that if we ever get TW 4.4 I hope that at least it'll be an nice minimalistic TW UI. that'll be nice to see that. I wish I was good at programing. I can do images, icons but not good with coding. Hopefully we can see a google style TW UI. I just think that TW should go another direction and lean more towards a google style UI. Flat colors.
I beg to differ due to the fact that I'm not bothered by the lack of aesthetic changes personally. I'm fine with stock 4.1.2 right now so the overall performance improvements are a good enough upgrade for me. I wasn't expecting Samsung to change much anyways.
Biggest plus imo is group messaging. I haven't run a TW Rom since getting this phone until now. I was fine with asop, but the Wi-Fi calling is another big plus with TW.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Thanks guys for pointing out some things I didn't noticed. I never used group messaging or used wifi calling. I guess everyone has a thing or two with the update. I use my phone in the most basic way, I mean basic. I make a few callings, text mostly to people and try to customize my phone to look cool. I mean thats it. I don't use really the other special features that comes with the phone. Maybe Gmail and on occasion the web. I just like to try to make my phone look different. and love trying out roms.
Well, if this article is to be believed, (http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2013/11/12/galaxy-s3-android-4-3-update-pulled-note-2-delayed/) we may not get the OTA update for a while now. Funny how I don't read about most of these issues in the 4.3 leak threads- I just wonder if it's because most of us do a factory reset because we're coming from another ROM. Maybe Samsung needs to make a factory reset mandatory for a major update like this.
I like it...
I personally like the (leaked) 4.3 update. I did use CyanogenMod for awhile on my S3, but there was just a few too many bugs that never seemed to get resolved (camera issues, audio issues), which ended with me going back to TW. I like the transparent notification bar with 4.3, and the fact it seems to (so far) be smoother than 4.1.2 was, with better battery life as well.
Most likely I will get a Nexus 5 after the holidays, because I personally love stock Android, but I will miss wifi calling.

It does appear to be affecting our release, but I believe ours to be relatively free of the issues in that article. (We've had a few problems, but it's only been for a few people). Just keep in mind they are talking about the I9300 in the article, a very different device from ours.

The only issue I've seen is the keyboard and lack of kernel source. Other than that all is well with the current leak itself IMO, so the official release shouldn't be too much to wait on.

We're at the middle of the month and hoping that the actual release would come out but don't know if it will. Plus again, its the TW I do like it but its just not a lot of fluff for me to keep it on. I like making my phone look different thats why I keep trying out roms. I'm on MIUI because it looks awesome especially with the themes.
I did like KITKAT 4.4 from CM but it still has some bugs. I'll probably try it out again. My friend is jumping ship from his GN2 for the N5 he's never going to see the 4.3 update anytime soon.
I wish you all good luck with the 4.3 drop..even sprint didn't get theirs on the 6th like they were supposed to.
Nexus 5 will be here in..3 days.

Well At Least You Know Your Updated On Firmware Somewhat
Well, the last leak is working perfectly for me, I was hesitant to switch from Dirty Unicorns back to TW, but I tried it and I'm really happy with it. The icons seem to have a better definition, the UI is a lot smoother, different lock screen options including the light effect swipe to unlock from the S4, different setting menu (tabs), toggle tiles and Gear support. Yes, Gear is working perfectly with the unbloated knox free leak. The Gear is now getting all notifications with text to read due to software released that you can flash thru Odin. Stock keyboard isn't working yet, but shouldn't be a deal breaker, I use swype anyway. Overall, I love the last leak and can care less if they delay the official update.
I'm loving the 4.3 leak.
Bluetooth is finally working properly for me. No more connection glitches or horrible crackling audio in A2DP.
Google Voice properly integrates with the new call log.
Lock screen improvements are very useful to me.
Notification improvements are great and work more reliably with Knock+2
I just wish I could find out if ANT+ is truly enabled as was reported for the international version. I can't seem to get it working.

Its possible there could be a couple of reasons it wont work. If its rom related, then its probably just not been implemented in this roubd of testing. Much more likely though is it is probably because of the kernel. the kernel used is the AT&T kernel from the oldest leak of 4.3, UVUEMJ2. Either too many changes were made, it wasnt yet added, or its implmented differently in tmobiles kernels.
Isnt it a wifi technology? or is it used via bluetooth? if it is wifi, as i seem to recall, itll definitely be kernel related. the sole reason for using the older AT&T kernel is wifi doesnt work with tmobiles, so if it is a wifi only protocol, thatd be the most likely reason.
hope that makes sense!

I think it's most closely related to bluetooth low energy or 4.0 .

[ROM][CDMA][4.3.1] PAC-Man for SCH-I800 and SPH-P100

Hey guys, I recently found an SPH-P100 in a dumpster (score! :victory and I was quite disappointed to see that there's a terrible lack of development for these devices. As such, I've forked the newest device configuration available on github, and I'll be working to release a wider variety of ROMs and to complete hardware support as much as possible. Unfortunately, there is very little I can do to address the complete lack of 3G support, as I have no service whatsoever on my device.
Now, the ROM! This is a clean build of PAC-man 4.3 for p1c. I have removed the hardcoded verizon-specific properties and model identifiers as a first step towards proper support of both Verizon and Sprint models, but no functionality is changed from the newest CM10.1 builds.
I notice that there are not any PAC builds for p1(l|n) posted either, so if there is adequate interest I may begin builds for those devices as well.
TWRP 2.6.3.0 is the included recovery, and has full SELinux support. (Compatible with KitKat ROMs!)

You are definately right. As of right now, there are no developers working on the p1c. The last one i remember was stimp0z, and his son broke his tab. So, all the developers are now gsm based. Terenceng does have a kit kat version for the p1c. I have it on my other tab. Anyway, the developers all went to kit kat.
If i can be of help, let me know.

first up - great to see someone working on development for the p1c - good score finding one in the bin!
to make things clearer - i was never a developer for the p1c, my old tablet (the p1 GSM version) was broken by my youngest son recently. my work on the p1c was purely guess work / diagnosed via my testers. p1c lost it's support from it's main developer (jt1134) before kernel 3.0 was released so without a developer to work on p1c related issues, it was hit and miss all the way. both humberos and myself had it booting, but it never worked with data (though attempts were made). now due to a generous donation from one of my CDMA testers, i will soon receive a Sprint tablet he has spare so i can continue developing - which means it will be a lot easier for me to work on issues facing the CDMA variants (but will never be able to test data myself as I live in Australia, not USA).
however - the more developers that work on the p1c the better, so please keep working on whatever you can - also working on something different to CM is definitely called for as i believe the users deserve a choice between custom ROMS for their SGT7.
if you wish to have a crack at data already - shoot me a pm and i'll give you some commits to look into that may help you on your way.
I am another P1C user, the last build around here that worked for me was alrodger's 4.1.2
Terenceng's does not work on my P1C, I am on verizon and it doesn't find the carrier and never activates.
P1C is only $75 on ebay these days for refurbished, great value.
I was kinda hoping to find a kitkat build for p1c that works but none exists and doesn't seem forthcoming by anyone.
I guess I will try 4.3.1
Does this have working usb and wifi tether? That's a biggie for me.
---------- Post added at 06:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 PM ----------
Okay I get the same failure trying to install this that I got with alrodger's final build.
using TWRP from the last kitkat flash, I wipe everything except the external sd card
then I try to install the rom and I get
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") ==
and a long list of devices
does that mean I have a device not in that list?
it then says
"E:Error executing updater binary in zip"
Also on 4.1.2 on my Sprint tab 7. I'm downloading and will give it a run. I dont have 3G but I'll report back after install.
terenceng is working on 4.4 and has "Coming Soon" for the PC1 but been a while. so now one is working on 4.4.
thanks ultravioletnanokitty for giving the P100 some love.
Update : ROM installed with out issue also used PAC gapps. WiFi OK camera OK feels quicker than 4.1.2. So all good for last 30 minute of use. Thanks for this rom dude nice job.
Cheers
update: okay I remembered how to get back to basics and I used heimdall to sideload cwm bootloader recovery
very fun looking rom, however it suffers from the same problem as Terenceng's:
it does not find the verizon radio/carrier and crashes when I try to manually activate it

Hi again, as stated before I do not have 3G connection plan on my Sprint tab, So I cannot test connectivity to 3G. All other functionality I can test.
Rom working nicely, few issues with following apps:
Netflix: movie never starts playing
Youtube: video never starts playing, "There was a problem while playing, Touch to retry"
Pandora: Audio does not start
Google Play Music: Audio does not start
Timely alarm clock: The set time to ring caused app stop
Navigation in all these apps is OK just issue when playing something
Apps working well:
iHeartRadio: Working OK
Gmail: Ok
Camer: pictures OK
Ebay: seems to be working ok but have not tested placing a bid
Let me know what else I can check, weekdays have little time to test but should be able to get something done.
Let me know what you want me to check or report on?
Cheers

media playback is flat-out broken in all p1x 4.3+ roms, i believe... also, i've never found charging while the device is on to work at all... if i leave it plugged into my laptop with the screen off overnight, it gets up to 99%. if i want to fully charge it the only option i've found is to power it off and plug it in. i don't have the original samsung charger or cable, though, so that could be it. regarding the keyboard, are you using gapps? i am on my tab, and i don't have any issues... it could be an issue with the aosp keyboard, though.
I just also recently picked up one of these guys, my actual intentions for mine is to get it on verizon prepaid using a extravert as a donor phone and tethering the 3g. I seen a guy offering a service to flash them but I am a bit unsure I would rather do it myself. Have you ever looked into this yet. You might get more bars with verizon than you do with sprint. Plus at like 10 bux a month unlimited internet isn't tp bad ( if you buy a $30 card good for 3 monthes IE $10 a month)
Let me know if I can be of assitance, Looking to flash a light weight rom.

It is my understanding (but not firsthand experience) that verizon can detect this within a couple of months and kill the imei, so be careful.
Instead I got onto a friend's family plan for $10 a month legit (but data cap of course)

Lets say I work for Verizon in a department that has privy info and tools at my disposal and I will tell you we have a tool called MVD it is a Mobile Virtual Diagnostic it can detect root and will show if the tool is run. The thing is it is only loaded for tools that have the most current version of My Verizon application installed 10.0 or higher. Anything prior to that it won't load your info so root can't be seen with general tech tools. Just FYI... I am happy you all are working on SCH-I800 But I can't seem to find the the Root and Tar files to load... Any image files link?

Well, that explains the lack of sound and the fact that all video apps crash.
Seriously though, this ROM is a significant improvement for me compared to Cyanogenmod 9.1 (4.0.4). My Tab is far more stable than it was, and has only crashed on me once, forcing me to do a factory reset.
Can I flash back to an earlier ROM, say 4.2.2 or 4.0.4, without bricking my Tab? I have seen on the AT&T Galaxy S 3 (SGH-i747) board that S 3s that updated OTA to 4.3 will hard brick if flashed to an older ROM, so I am concerned.
Also, how close in hardware is the p1c to the Galaxy S GT-i9000? I have several i9000 ROMs on my computer, and if it is close enough, I might be able to get media working on mine. Worth a try. :fingers-crossed:
