Okay, I'm pretty sure this was just a fluke because I cannot find how to do it anymore, but I thought it was pretty neat. When I went into call settings and networks, it let me choose between a list of LTE, Maritime (3g), and 2g. I have read that there is a setting in the hidden network settings that deals with this, but have been unable to change the settings. Has anyone else run into this settings menu? I was just playing around with the phone, and there it was, now it is no more. Maybe. For those that have no LTE coverage, I bet this could really help with battery life.

That's what I thought it was, too. But, unless I'm being totally oblivious to something, it does not show up there anymore. The only list to show up is the APN list which I'm able to populate with full network settings, but what I'm talking about was the ability to switch between LTE, 3G, and 2G on the fly. I wish I would have gotten a screen shot. Can you do a screen shot of what you are talking about?

Nope. I don't have that. I have the lt28at, btw. Is that the international version? That's not even the screen that I got when I got into those settings. Mine was not a pop-up, it was another screen of its own. It listed "LTE" (not sure if it had 4G next to it or not) then it had 2 different "Maritime 3g" settings, then 2g. I remember this specifically because I thought the word Maritime being in there was odd. My network settings page is attached.

Go To Settings/Xperia and Click on Internet Settings.
It will download the Internet settings for gprs and mms.
It worked for me.

Just wanted to share for the people that arnt aware.
Hit menu, developer settings.
1. Force GPU rendering.
2. Limit background processes to 3 or 4 (this will need to be set on every reboot).
3. Turn both animations off.
I say may work on aokp, because I havnt used it yet.
This may turn into a full blown "battery saving tips" thread, but atm its for ICS.

I'm sure most people know, but for the slow ones like me, would you mind a little how-to for your tips? I can do the limit background processes, but don't know how to do the others...
Thanks!

The tips 1-3 are all in the same menu, developer settings. Sorry I couldnt post the image, using xda app, not allowing me to, but theres the direct link.

LOL , thanks Adrian, and yeah Im about tired of the new advanced 3g in Atl. Better speeds outside maybe, less signal penetration, definitely.

Sadly that's where the advantages of GSM shine
I just went through the animations, it doesn't make sense why people would want to be turning at x10 its redunk lol
anyone know if in ICS theres an option like in GB to turn 'background data' off?

Yep. You can either shut the 3G off from: Settings > Wireless and Network > More > Mobile Networks > 3G data [checkbox].
OR you can just turn the background data off like you said: Settings > Accounts and Sync > ON/OFF switch in the upper bar.
Hope this helps. You can also use Juice defender or something like it to stop the background data automatically and let it connect once every 15, 30, 60 minutes or so...
Hey guys. Hope this has not been answered yet I could not find it. Since installing cm 10.1 I have not had access to any 4g mobile networks.
Right now I am on 20121226 can someone please tell me what might be wrong. I can only use 3g outside of WiFi.
Thanks alot

Who's your telco?
Are your APN settings correct (Settings -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names)?
Do you have the right network type settings set (Settings -> More... -> Network types, and/or dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> Set preferred network type)?
Hey thanks for getting back to me. Sorry I forgot , I am on ATT. newbie to all this so not quite sure about all that APN stuff

Go into setting/more/mobile networks/network mode and make sure either lte option is selected as well as in access point names make sure att&t lte is selected
Check your APN settings and since you're on AT&T just Google "AT&T APN settings" and it should be the first link. I'm still new so I cant link yet. :/
Same problem here and connection to LTE is very intermittent. I'm on Telus and I've tried both the LH1 and LK4 modems to no avail. It always connects to 3G or H+ and then tries to connect to LTE and I see the following "dead" signal bar:

At which point if I try to place a call I obviously get the following error:
OK I am very curious if i can disable all network modes except gsm or just select only gsm. Now a lot of you are wondering why and pulling out your hair, well in my area there are a lot of places that I get 1 bar of any other network, but if i manually force my phones over to gsm I get full bars and great reception, even in buildings and basements that everyone considers dead spots. So yes there is a legit reason to this and I'm very curious if this can easily be done with the us model?
thanks

You can force the radio to GSM only using the hidden menu..
You can get to this menu by typing in the following code in the phone dialer : *#*#4636#*#*
I always forget the code, so I use an app called Network Switcher which does the exact same thing as the code..
The second SIM slot is GSM voice+text only. So if you ever want to turn off data, I s'pose you could just disable SIM 1 if you had a second one in.

very good I believe this is what I was looking for. It works this way with my current phones and wanted to know if it was in the zp2. some companies/carriers disable this.
Bought a note 8, unlocked, verizon, etc and have it on ST.
There are no APN settings at all and no option to add.
Anyone ran across this? Workaround?
Thanks in advance for any help.

It could be the firmware version you're on.. Of course I'm using mine with the Verizon sim card and Verizon firmware version N950USQS5CRID.. I don't know how you have yours set up but in my network Options I see Access Point Names.. May I ask what you need the Access Point Names for?
Since the switch to this phone (I used smart switch so it moved my old apps over). The messaging app I am used to will not send pictures.
Initial thoughts are that it is an issue with the APN not being properly set up.

Reinstall the app. It's not always an APN issue.

Reinstalled it (stock samsung messaging app), no go.
I was able to go install quick shortcut maker and then go into mobile networks that way and access the APN's.

I had the same problem and this is what i did.
i use someone original Verizon SIM, the APN option will come back, edit the APN to TRACFONE.VZWENTP then save.
Put your ST SIM back in and it will work
Note 8
I am having the same issue. I've tried everything from calling ST to putting the old Verizon sim in changing apn saving it and it still did not work for me with ST. Has anyone had any luck?
What happens if you go into settings, General Management, Reset, and the Reset network settings?
Download from playstore shortcut master lite
There should be a free one name something like quickshortcutmaker ( actual shortcut master doesnt have a lite version anymore) when you search for short cut master lite
launch app
go on applications tab and search for com.test.LTEFunctionalityTest
it will say Try on an option or launch
tap try a couple times then check settings under mobile networks,
it should be there
if not go the app again and create shortcut and launch within app by pressing try
worked for me
Has anyone else has this option greyed out?
I have the option to choose between 5G,4G,3G,or 2G (Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Preferred Network Type).
Yep they've greyed it out even though my phone was bought simfree (unlocked)

Nope just a 'Choose Network' which is also greyed out
I'm at a loss, hopefully, someone else will chime in.
FWIW, mine is a US Model, puchcased from T-Mobile, SIM unlocked (using a T-Mobile SIM Card).

You could always just use the dialer code *#*#4636#*#*
Turns out certain networks have the option disabled, I had the same problem when using an ID Mobile sim but my Vodafone sim was fine. To fix the problem make sure your rooted as I don't know of any other way other than the one I'm going to show.
Use a file manage that can show you root files (I use MiXplorer)
Go to /data/user_de/0/com.android.phone/files
Look for a XML file that starts with "carrier", If you have more than one then you've used more than 1 SIM in the phone, Make sure you've opened the XML file for your SIM.
Look for the line "hide_preferred_network_type_bool" and change it from true to false.
Reboot.
Profit.
Hope it works for you.

I'm with Smarty (owned by Three) which also uses the Three network like idmobile so it looks like Three maybe the culĀ·prit
I'm on I'd mobile which uses threes network.
Type this *#*#4636#*#* in dialer, it enters a test mode.
Click on phone info which takes you to another screen.
Scroll down and you'll see a slightly gray box that if you click on that and scroll through you'll find LTE only.
Click it and that's it, 4g network only.
Restart phone, job done.
Pretty sure my battery also seems to last longer
