Sprint Help - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I do have this posted in the main Q&A section but I could really use the help so I figured since I have this phone maybe one of my E4GT friends could help.
Does anyone know of, is anyone here, or can someone put me in contact with an understanding Sprint Retentions Agent? Or even an elevated agent?
I just moved and drop calls like crazy. Frequently have 1 bar and rarely any 3G. I have the Airave, but it is about as reliable as a squirt gun in a gun fight between a clown and an armed assassin.
I've been with sprint for 3 ish years and have paid my bill in full every month. I used to love sprint, and I'd love to stay but this network is really bad at my new home, and this isn't because I want a new phone either... I have a GS2 and am a decent part of helping on the dev scene when o can.
I've been in contact with one agent whom I've been emailing, but I'm pretty sure he hates his job, life, and his wife is sleeping with his brother... He is very evasive in my questions and quite frankly, rude.
I understand you might feel uncomfortable posting here with your contacts, however if you could PM me any info it would be overwhelmingly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

By all means I am not trying to persuay you any way, have you tried to flash a different modem? I wish I had a contact for you but I don't.

Call Sprint. Tell them you don't get great service at home and you know "someone," who got an Airwave free of charge and there ya go. Worked for me twice so far.

He has the airave. I'm in the same boat, sprint used to be awesome for me and now the service sucks. I'm on the roam-like-a-crazy-person plan to termination without ETF. I've called sprint. I've even called their roaming department. They didn't care and told me that I might as well keep roaming because they can't manually term my contract even though it definitely qualifies for excessive roaming termination by their rules. They said "corporate" has to target me. Who is corporate? I thought that the roaming department would be, evidently not. Good luck!

I usually am a PITA as opposed to a help in these sprint threads but I'll turn things around here and offer a useful suggestion... I've been on sprint for like 12 years now, why? I don't know as my service is terrible but I dislike everything about att and Verizon so I stay... that said of course I've had my issues with them over they years and in my experance their customer service went from great to god awful sometime around the launch of the og evo 4g... in the past I've resorted to some deep Googling to find the number for "sprint executive services" department... it is a department in sprint corporate not affiliated with their regular cs depertments and actually has both the authority to resolve situations for you and extremely competent reps... basically the two or three times I've resorted to calling the rep that answers handles your issue all the way to its conclusion, they ask about your problem, research it for a day or two and then call back with the solutions they are able to offer. In short these people are awesome and directly responsible for me still being on sprint. I wish I had a number to give you but to my knowledge it changes all the time, so I doubt the one I have from a year ago still works... I've always been able to find them when necessary online though... it won't be an 800 number, which further shows how much they don't want to be contacted! Not sure if regular reps would be able to transfer you to them, I've never tried but I very much doubt it... good luck with it OP, this is the top and most competent department I've ever found within sprint...
Edit: I just did a search and found it listed as 1-866-398-4606 these days, which is not at all what I reached them at but is probably worth a try... its also possible they've gutted the department since the people there were good at their jobs, and that apperently is a bad thing in the world of sprint cs
Further Edit: according to this ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618335 ) thread the old consumerist provided number (http://consumerist.com/2009/05/reach-executive-customer-service-for-sprint-verizon-t-mobile-att.html) apparently still works, its 703-433-4401 and these people f'ing rock at problem solving and offering reasonable solutions, try them first

I usually don't condone doing this (well I don't at all). But when corporate money hungry capitalist monsters want to screw you out of your hard earned money, I believe you should fight fire with nuclear weapons.
Torrents will get you booted pretty quick without an etf.

change of terms
i had the chance to break out a few months ago when they changed how they applied corporate discounts to family plans. they gave me a free upgrade if i didn't leave (i went from the Evo 4G to the Galaxy S2).
i seriously regret not leaving. service in los angeles is awful. voice is fine but data is S L O W as can be.
every time you log into the sprint site to pay your bill or whatever, check the announcements. hopefully they'll make another change that will let you out.

Put The Pressure On Sprint Don't Settle

Ok spoke to sprint for 2 hrs today about LOS.... "Recorded all calls"
Hung up on 4 times while i was on hold while they research issue
Told to sell phone back to sprint "oh yea...Uh no!"
I am not giving you 2 months of credit "yes you are"
Account Services: Nothing i can do we don't issue credits "don't lie to me"
17 mintues in call "account services" says: I can give you $36 "i don't think so"
Call Samsung since they made the phone "nope try again"
We have nothing to do with the device "The name of the store was Sprint"
Im not going to loose my job over you "understandable but i really don't care"
Take it to the store "why if they all are defective"
Im not going to do this that or the other and etc....... "manager please and not someone who just takes escalations.
RESULTS "Time to get tough"
I want out of my contract do to local lemon laws and horrible
treatment from customer service.
Manager understood after i broke it down technically to him about the phone issues and asked what do you want "I've already told you!!"
Contract terminated "released from contract" Still have phone and service of course.
"not fixed in a month will call for credits" <----You have to play hard ball with Sprint...Calling 100 times is easier than checking your phone for LOS every few minutes
Mission Statement:
PUT THE PRESSURE ON SPRINT GUYS..DO NOT LET THEM RIP YOU OFF! IF YOU HAVE LOS ITS NOT ACCEPTABLE..I WAS PREPARED TO CALL 100 TIMES. HOW FAR ARE YOU READY TO GO????? do not speak to anyone but account services

Samsprint's been "working" on gingerbread for Epic 4G for months now. I believe if it's cost efficient in Sprint's favor to simply fix the problem, it's better of we annoy them to an extent.
Funny, I thought Sprint was the carrier and Samsung was the Manufacturer.
My mistake.
Carriers don't make updates/fixes they just test/approve them and release them.
Put the pressure on Samsung. That will get results, hopefully.

So has XDA. Its obviously an issue with that phone and an entirely different matter all together.
OP if you want to waste that much of your time and energy on something that will soon be fixed, either by the devs here or Sprint/Samsung, feel free. Just don't expect us sane rational people not to troll you.

Your phone is under warranty through sprint for the first yr. You go through sprint before you contact the manufacturer. Sprint cannot afford to take escalations for every LOS. As well as the credits issued and contracts cancelled for something they sold and provide service for. Therefore they will demand Samsung to fix the issue. Or if Samsung has fixed the issue, they will demand quality to release a patch "yesterday". Worst case scenario if Sprint cannot resolve customers mass number of complaints they will recall the phone, issue refunds, or do exchanges.

Well with my free service and no contract, I don't mind waiting. I was just helping others to see the same satisfaction and quicker response from Sprint/Samsung..When i get a LOS now, i can laugh about it because i am not paying for it!
If you don't find my post helpful than why respond. I got satisfaction. My job is to help others to get the same.
Now i can leave this post for anyone who finds it useful....

Only happens once in a while for me...My idea was to have everyone join together and get a quicker fix..I am out of a contract and free service...Im great!!! I just like to share to try to help others. But this is America...Half agree, other half don't.
newalker91 said:
Uh no, no it is not. Your phone is under (pause for keyword here...) "MANUFACTURER'S" warranty for one year. Manufacturer in this case is Samsung, aka the party responsible for FIXING this issue. The reason people go through Sprint before they go to Samsung for their warranty is because they have too high of a sense of self-entitlement and/or are too arrogant to read their user manual which clearly states a contact number for Samsung, not Sprint, under the warranty section. Sprint would never recall this phone for an issue that some people are having. Quite frankly if I were the overseeing supervisor in your case, I would've told you to direct your frustrations at Samsung and never have let you out of contract. As a consumer, do some research before picking up a product if you aren't willing to take the risk of having defects which WILL be fixed. This phone hasn't even received its first patch yet, and you've already cost Sprint valuable network expansion dollars to give you something you didn't deserve by throwing a temper tantrum. Grow up and stop ruining things for everyone else by shoving around the wrong people.

Let me guess your work on Wall Street as well...
Send your phone off to Samsung and please let us know when you get the same phone back in the same packaging you sent it in. Should take 2-3 days for you to get your package back, so be patient.
Thanks
Just so people aren't confused. This post has nothing to do with the Wall Street guy above. I provided information on what Sprint did for me as a customer, do to LOS issues. Hope some will find satisfaction in reaching out to them for the lack of service you have had. If you had great service no issues...Cool!
Thanks,
ME
I'm in love with the concept that if you have anything to say about anything [that isn't negative toward a carrier] you must either be an employee or a "fan boy"
Seriously? Go **** yourself with that nonsense.
Samsung makes the phone. It's a great phone.
Samsung is KNOWN for slow updates NO MATTER WHAT CARRIER THE PHONE IS ON
You can pressure Sprint all you want, it's not going to change who is actually responsible for updates and fixes.
"Carriers don't make updates/fixes they just test/approve them and release them."
So is sprint fault too bc they have to test the phones first and looks like they are not.

Who said Sprint doesn't have some blame?
They do test the phones.
But *****ing at Sprint for the LOS issue in some vain attempt to get the issue fixed faster is like *****ing to Best Buy because the iPhone 4 has that antenna issue

It's as simple as they did better than people were expecting. They're still highly leveraged which is risky, but their improved cash flow suggests some margin of safety business-wise. Also, they've done very well so far in improving customer service and expanding their network. That wasn't a bad day for myself either...
I wish network Vision would come to the nyc area sooner.
Sell! Sell! Sell! lol. Only in these fabulous economic times can a company post losses for a couple straight years and then as soon as they post losses that aren't as bad as predicted, they become a company that people want to invest their money in. Wasn't too long ago bankruptcy was rumored to be an option. lol. Hopefully, it keeps up, they can use it to help secure loans for NV.

As long time Sprint customer I will agree that their customer no-service has changed to customer service. They have done a lot of improvements to right that ship, not to mention some of their plans are very nice, unlimited data... what other carrier has that now (unless grandfathered in)
Glad others feel this way and not just me. I bought it awhile ago when I knew they were getting the iphone, NV was rolling out, and LTE would be out soon. Took a couple dips on me, but it's doing well now! This was the first stock I've ever bought too.....figured I'd buy something I at least knew a lot about. What are other's opinions of a relative short term high point? In my head 6 months ago I thought $5 would be my sell point but I've read recently that that is the point it's ok for fund managers to buy so it will probably go up more from there. Just wondering what other people thought.
I think the new iPhone will give them another boost as people figure out that Sprint LTE is real and they can get unlimited fast data on Sprint.

I pray people don't figure this out. Sprint's data speeds TANKED when the iPhone hit, and you can be assured that an LTE capable iPhone will do the exact same thing...fricking hipsters.

Sprint Rant

Long story, but I switched to Sprint from Verizon back in March after ten years. I purchased the White Epic Touch and sure enough my problems began. I had the phone 28 days and my screen goes out. Bam 35.00 for a refurb. I have that phone for 3 months and take ICS update. Everytime I plugged it to the charger my phone would overheat. Bam 35.00 fee for the tech to do factory reset and have the same problems when I left. I woke up two weeks ago to a black screen. No response. Bam 35.00 and they sent me a new one. I woke up today with a dim screen and find out my screen is burning out so these idiots try to charge me another 35.00 and I said no way! So after arguing with Sprint for about 4 hours they finally replace it then kindly say the phone is on backorder and it could be up to 30 days to receive it. I ask if they have any black ones in stock and they basically tell me im screwed until my name pops up om the list and a phone becomes available. I dunno, but this old boys about to take his 4 lines back to Verizon. More expensive and less hassle. Sprint is so lacking I never imagined. I knew there network was bad, but figured they made up for it elsewhere. Guess not! I figured up that since march I have spent around 21 hours in the Sprint store. I also figure that all those fees had I known I could have sold this one added that amount to what I have gave Sprint for a Gs3. Sad

Yeah but what is your purpose? We all know how customer service experiences are. Some are bad some are good.
Are you looking for some help or using custom roms and see if some of your issues can be fixed that way? I just don't see the reason behind you ranting on a development forum. I can see this in sprint community forums. Thats all.
Edit: And I am a BIG believer in never switching providers when something is working just fine with original provider. I work in fios tech support and whenever someone tells me that everything was working fine before switching and I hate your service... I always think in my mind.. Why the hell did you switch? Save 10-15 bucks vs the peace of mind of working service? Not worth it.

I'm a tech at Sprint and I think its kinda funny that every phone that you received craps out. I would say get TEP then you don't have to pay $35 for these issues. Don't rant about how Sprint is crap when you do not take advantage of all of your options.
Verizon does not offer on-site technicians . They would simply tell you buy another phone full price or go to asurion and pay a &150 deductible

Well onley thing is I had one phone in 10 years mess up and they did replace it free of charge. I do have a question for you since you work for Sprint. Ive noticed everytime I go in there all the people in this store always have the latest phone. When I baught the Epic they had it. Evo LTE came out they had it. Now I noticed all three of the same people at this store carry an S3. Went by there today and two of them was showing off there Iphone 5 to customers. This is a contract store not corp. It just irritated me when the rep talked about Sprints cost going up because of exchanges on bad phones. There could be but I highly doupht these people are making enough money to buy the new phones every month. Just curious

Sprint does not manufacture the phones , Samsung does. However that's why we have good technicians who check for liquid damage, because if we don't we send them off to get refurbished and we endup giving a liquid damaged device to someone else.
That being said that's why its good to be honest if you liquid damaged a device. But people would rather lie and hope a tech just replaces it , and screw sprint and other customers just so they can get something for free.

I don't work for sprint but I used to work for cingular wireless and afaik the store always wanted us to carry the latest devices so we could 'demo' them to the customers... think of it as eyecandy.
In fact, I had my own phone from sprint and another device from CW, I was not allowed to use my sprint device for obvious reasons but had to have whichever device from CW visible and sometimes using a BT headset for demo purposes. If I can recall correctly, those devices were written off once another one came up.

I got 2 Epics last year in Oct, his and hers and had only one hicup in 11months, when the ICS update rolled out the wife wanted to try it, so she accepted the update and it did not go well, horrible battery life, apps not working weird charge cycles and a bunch of other fowleups, later I tried a couple of custom roms, but that was just a bandaid , phone was not a daily driver. Finally went back to gingerbread, the os that kept the phone reliable for 10+months with no issues what so ever. I had tried a couple of ICS releases myself and always wound up going back to gingerbread, needing a reliable phone on a daily basis I could not afford to leave home with a quirky phone that needs a charge every 6 hrs. I settled into a custom gb Rom that I have been running since April with no problems what so ever, wifeys Epic is on the same custom Rom. The only time we ever went back to sprint was to pickup a desk dock for the Epics.
Corporate sprint stores are usually more user freindly than privately owned stores, and I think if you go to a Corp store and plead your case in a nice manner you may get some satisfaction. The new phones the employees flash are just perks of the job, either huge discounts or free, don't let that get to you, besides it makes sprint look good. I have been with sprint since 2000 and have no complaints.
Give sprint another chance to make good. Good luck.

Just my 2 cents. I got the Original Epic on launch day and never had one problem with it. Got the Epic Touch on launch day and am still using it. I have not had one problem with it. With anything mechanical there is always going to be the possibility of failure. It is just a game of chance. I can guarantee you that there are people saying the exact same thing about Verizon, AT&T and TMobile. It just happens.

I know how technical support goes... I did both tier 1 and tier 2 for U-Verse. And it's actually 95% of customers are not tech savvy so they call in for every single issue including a Wi-Fi password. Tier 1 technical support is basically a power cycle then transfer to tier 2 if the issue is still happening. Tier 2 does ALL the REAL technical support. Tier 1 is just a filter, which can't even do that correctly most of the time.

FiOS is a fiber optic network similar to U-verse in the sense that you support IPTV, HSIA, and CVoIP.
I know how an ONT works, unless there is a major issue that requires a technician to physically repair the line... it is a simple toggle or reboot of the CPE.

Yes, sprint does suck, I've known more than any sprint tech or rep and they don't generally fix anything, water damage??? Seriously? Who cares if it's been water damaged, doesn't mean the phone won't work, that's why they have quality control refurb people... Yeah, I'm on sprint and I hate every day of it but ALL cell phone providers suck major ass and have you by the balls... I've been paying for 4g for over two years and have NEVER seen it and probably never will until my contract is up, again... Truth be told by the time I and the other 75% of America do see 4g from sprint, they'll put a cap on it and stop unlimited... If I were you and you don't like sprint, just keep going up through the chain and tell people strait up what's going on. If that's a no go, just change your prl and roam constantly until you get that "letter" in the mail... One rant to another, good luck...

Ill be honest if I ever found a phone ( worth keeping s2 s3 ) I would keep it , keep it off , pull battery , put away for couple months , let any heat cool down then sell and I would check see if its rooted if so I would unroot , master reset , reset binary then follow the above steps
Depending on phone easy $125-300 depending on phone and condition
But sorry for you loss , be more anal with your phones lol

Or you could not be an a** hole and return it and possibly get a reward. I have had my phone stolen in a robbery and I have lost my phones before. Obviously you have never lost a phone because you seem to not know what it's like to lose such a valuable and important thing. When I got robbed, I felt so violated that they had my phone. I have had one person return my phone to me and gave them $100 for it and thanked them a million times. You are the reason people have to take such crazy measures for protecting their sh*t.

It isn't hard (especially for us) to get into a phone and find out the owner's address and contact info. If I was cold hearted I would have done the same thing as previously stated. Although I would much rather give it back. Unless its an iPhone. Then I'll sell it, buy a nexus, and return THAT to them.
Also, if you have sprint insurance you just pay $100 and you get another one.
Still curiously how you lost a phone in target. Did you set it down on a shelf or something??

What kinda of lame excuse is that? Who would "toss" their phone after losing it and then having it returned? Especially if it was a S2? A phone is a very personal item for most ppl. Contains photos, contacts, text msgs, etc... At very least, losing a phone is a huge inconvenience. For most people, it's a sickly feeling know someone else has your personal details in their hands.
The fact of the matter is, if you find someone's phone and don't make any attempt to return it, you're a heartless asshole. And what for? To make a quick buck? Apparently your integrity is only worth a few bucks. Just call a spade a spade. If you're a heartless asshole and you're ok with it, then just say, I'm a heartless asshole. Don't try and masquerade your assholeness with some lame excuse about making sure the loss item is "still being used." That's just bull**** and you, as well as everyone else knows it.

This seems to be really poor timing on HTCs part, as they are trying to rebuild a public positive image, regain market share.
Killing this kind of resource is only shooting themselves in the foot. It pisses off the geeks that would otherwise give them good recommendations and reviews.
This kind of website costs HTC no money, incurred no losses. And, imho, actually Saves them money (in man hours) for tech support, as XDA does.
Foolish, HTC. Hope you're reading this.

My bad
BTW it doesn't matter if you don't switch carriers, and just unlock your phone. Unlocking your handset without the branded carrier's permission is easily grounds for ETF and being kicked from said carrier if not getting legal action brought against you. For example, the SIM mod being worked on to allow us Sprint users to use GSM towers with a 3rd part SIM card is illegal on any phone purchased after tomorrow....as you are technically unlocking the phone. You can still have your Sprint contract and Sprint service, but that mod is illegal as of tomorrow on any phone purchased starting tomorrow.
AAMOF, that SIM card mod thread will probably be deleted and disappeared before too long.
