[Q] editing contacts One V - HTC One V

A friend just got a One V from Virgin and she has asked me to sort out her contacts. I have looked at it and there is a + sign in the edit section of contacts but it is faded out and you can't add multiple numbers for a contact. I set up her samsung phone before with a custom ROM and contacts worked just fine.
Has anyone heard of this happening before? Is it something that is just part of the HTC One V package that Virgin has bought or is there something obvious that I am missing? I also have my own android phone (blade) running CM7 and the contacts works just fine in that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
eph

Just an idea: could it be that your friend stored the contact at the SIM card (not in the phone storage)?

thanks..
Yup, silly me. Never thought of checking whether she had installed the contacts to the phone or the sim. Once on the phone everything worked fine.
Much appreciated.

Lost ALL my contacts!? Second time, different phone...

2 totally separate phones (dash's) one with Rogers and one with stock Tmo WM6. Hard restart all contacts disappear! Since in their infinite wisdom you cant disable the sim contacts from showing, I rely on them STAYING in the phone memory! Anyone else with this issue? It has happened only twice in maybe 4 months, but is very frustrating!
Thanks for any advice!
A hard reset will restore the phone to factory default (no contact list). It's supposed to do that. Keep your contacts synchronized via outlook and activesync.
Sorry, I was lying when I typed hard reset. I yanked the battery so it wasnt exactly a soft reset but I did not do the clear storage either I guess next time it locks up I will be more patient!

You should be syncing your phone with your contact list on your PC or exchange server if you are lucky enough to have one. This is one of the most basic things you can do on a smartphone. What if you lost your phone???
I do sync. But I dont take my computer with me either. So today, all day, I was without contacts. Now they are back caused I sync'd.
I guess we should be telling people that want louder call volume to get a hearing aid and people that want to run another ROM to buy the right phone
backup
I use Sprite Backup for said problem and its golden. Simply make backups of your data on the go and when things happen like say an impossible to stop boot loop or a data error, you can still restore everything.
I guess I am just the kind of person that would rather look at the root of the problem, not the band-aid repair after it happens again. I will look into the backup, but I will probably just carry my spare deactivated sim card so I can transfer stuff back if it fails me again.
So does anyone know a way to KEEP the contacts on the sim, yet hide them from view on the contacts list? It surpirses me that something my 8 year old Nokia does WM6 wont let you do . I have never accidentally lost my sim contacts- but the duplicate thing is annoying
The rogers rom for the htc s621 (dash) allows you to hide sim contacts without a registry edit. goto settings then phone... you'll find it there.
also there is a reg edit for said issue for roms that don't offer this option. I have not personally found a smartphone rom without this option but the regedit is: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable.
Now you can keep your contacts on your activated SIM.
THANK YOU!!! I had not realized Rogers did this!

Message bug since update

I have a very strange bug since downloading and installing the latest OTA update. I'm just running a stock system if you need to know.
Basically after the update I went to messages and some old messages I have are shown as being received from the completely wrong person :S These messages were not originally received on my desire HD but I put them all on it when I got the phone. The original person who sent them is in my contact list and linked with their facebook account and all that. Before the update it was showing the messages as being sent from the correct person.
Is there any way to fix this...it's very frustrating as there are over 50 messages which it has done this for.
I cannot say if it's doing it with new messages as that person is away on holiday so I can't check but messages received on my DHD from them seem to be ok...it's only happened with the messages I transferred onto the phone.
Thanks
Also I've now tried backing up all those messages to my gmail account using the SMS Backup+ app. They appear on my gmail from the original sender, then I deleted them off my phone and restored them using the app but it goes back to being shown as the wrong person (it keeps linking it to the same wrong person). The only details I have of the wrong person are what has been sync'd from facebook. There is no connection between them and the original sender (and I've checked all the contact links).
Also I wanted to try deleting that wrong person and then restoring the messages but I cannot figure out how to delete them off the phone. They are only on the phone because of the facebook contact sync so when I try delete contact it gives me a list of my contacts which they are not on as they're only in the 'people' section. I guess deleting them of facebook would work but I don't want to do that if possible.
Sorry if this is getting confusing.
well, tried to unlink facebook contacts with your contacts ?
I have this problem as well, only happened after the latest update.
I think to rectify this a new update will be released from HTC as this bug was also present on the original Desire phone, and resolved with a update.
Very annoying I agree, lets hope its fixed soon.
Just out of interest which country are you in and which network are you on?
Im in UK and on T-Mobile.

I'm in the UK on o2 but the phone was bought new unlocked.
I even went as far as deleting the person off facebook. The messages then appeared as they should from the original contact but I then re-added that person and as soon as they accepted it linked the messages back to them. Its so strange as these people have nothing to do with each other, their names aren't even similar.

I rectified this problem by conducting a hard reset.
Probably not the news you want to hear, but it solved the problem for me.

Well I thought about it but decided to contact HTC support first. They suggested that I backup all my contacts to my SD card then delete them all off the phone. I really didn't see how this would help since the person being linked to the messages wasn't a 'contact' he was just added to the People app by facebook.
Also another thing I noticed is that on facebook some people choose to put their phone numbers up which get put on the phone when you sync your facebook contacts with the phone. This particular person decided to be clever and instead of putting actual numbers they put things like 'Mobile: I'm not telling you' so the number was saved on the phone as 'I'm not telling you'. I decided to go in and edit these on the phone (cause you can't delete them) to just numbers i.e. '12345' so that none of his numbers were text.
Then in desperation I went and did what HTC recommended, deleting my contacts and restoring them and the problem was fixed!!!!
Unfortunately I can't confirm which of the 2 methods I tried actually work cause I did them without checking to see if they problem had been fixed in between.
So for anyone else with this problem. Check the person who the messages are being linked to, if they have text for their phone numbers, edit them to numbers (any numbers). If this doesn't work go to People>Menu>Import/Export>Export to SD card, then select all the contacts. Then in People go to Menu>Delete>Menu>Select all and confirm. Then restore the contacts by going to People>Menu>Import/Export>Import from SD card and that should do it!!

[Q] text duplication

I installed RCMixHD rom on my desire last night and went through all the set-up without problem. My issue is that for some reason I seem to have all my wife's sms messages on my phone as well as her contacts. I have not used her SIM in my phone and not used her SD card (she has the Desire HD), the only thing I did do was connect to HTC Sense using her account not mine (as she was registered to one of my email addresses).
Does anyone know what data is stored in HTC Sense or can anyone tell me any other reason why this could have occurred?

[Q] Carrier/Operator messages appearing under personal contact

Hi there,
This is a problem that I'm experiencing since I got my Desire HD and I will explain exactly whats happening. I dont know if there is already a thread opened in relation to it, I searched the forum and couldnt find anything. I there is a thread already open, then I apologize and ask that someone direct me to it.
So...
When I receive a carrier/operator message that message appears under the name of one of the persons under my contacts list. It always appears under the same person.
I have already tried to make a factory reset twice and the problem occurs again and again.
Its not something that stops me from using my phone, but rather annoying. Also, because some of the carrier/operator numbers do not accept replies to it, sometimes I cannot text the person on my contact whos being confused by the carrier.
Hope I could make myself understood
Anyone else here experiencing the same problems? Do you know how to resolve it?
I know this is a problem affecting other people, not only me. This is my first Android phone so Im not sure if its Desire HD specific, Android specific or a HTC problem. I know one other person who is experiencing the same exact problem. That person also has a Desire HD.
Is that other person on the same network?
Not an issue specifically tied to the Desire HD nor Android.
My first thought would be to contact the network provider. Are your contacts sync'd with Gmail account or did you import from SIM card?

Hey there,
First of all, thanks for the quick reply.
No, my friend who's experiencing the same exact problem he is not using the same network.
I might give it a try and call the carrier but Im a tech support guy myself and Im afraid I already know what their answer will be...
Im sure me and my friend, we are not the only ones experiencing this problem. I remember some time ago reading something about this problem somewhere but I overlooked it as I thought it would never happen to me. Now I cannot find it anywhere.
I guess not many people report this problem because it doesnt stop you from using the phone and only affects one of your contacts. The thing is that its quite annoying, even more when I cannot text the person as the phone thinks I want to text the network operator.
I dont think this is an Android issues, I think its probably something with the HTC rom. My contacts were pulled from my previous phone via bluetooth. I do not store my contacts in my SIM card. On the phone I see my contacts under 'people'. Also, HTC links my contacts (between my friends on facebook and the ones I have under 'people')... And I think that this is actually the problem.
I tried already to unlink this one contact but still Im keeps getting operator messages under his number.
As I said, my friend who's experiencing the same exact problem is on a different network operator. Also, I bought my phone SIM Free (not linked to any operator), while he bought his under contract and not SIM Free.
Actually, just searching a bit further on Google with different keywords and found a guy in Mexico who's experiencing the same problem (Im in the UK). Also found a huge thread on androidforums with people from different carriers also reporting the same issues.
Will read a bit further to see if I can get this sorted. Apparently is being caused by the 'facebook contact sync' and disabling it stops it from happening.
Not really a good resolution though, as if the 'facebook contact sync' exists, then we should be able to use it without causing problems for other applications.
Hopefully it is as simple as that.
I don't use Facebook which is probably why I never had or have seen this issue.
Please do let me know if that fixes it.
Cheers.

From SIM?! Transfer your contacts to your Gmail and no need to worry anymore. It's much better,as you can lose your phone/SIM along with contacts. But with contacts on your Gmail all you need is just log in to your Gmail from your phone and all contacts are ready to use with any Android phone...
