[Q] Carrier/Operator messages appearing under personal contact - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
This is a problem that I'm experiencing since I got my Desire HD and I will explain exactly whats happening. I dont know if there is already a thread opened in relation to it, I searched the forum and couldnt find anything. I there is a thread already open, then I apologize and ask that someone direct me to it.
So...
When I receive a carrier/operator message that message appears under the name of one of the persons under my contacts list. It always appears under the same person.
I have already tried to make a factory reset twice and the problem occurs again and again.
Its not something that stops me from using my phone, but rather annoying. Also, because some of the carrier/operator numbers do not accept replies to it, sometimes I cannot text the person on my contact whos being confused by the carrier.
Hope I could make myself understood
Anyone else here experiencing the same problems? Do you know how to resolve it?
I know this is a problem affecting other people, not only me. This is my first Android phone so Im not sure if its Desire HD specific, Android specific or a HTC problem. I know one other person who is experiencing the same exact problem. That person also has a Desire HD.

Is that other person on the same network?
Not an issue specifically tied to the Desire HD nor Android.
My first thought would be to contact the network provider. Are your contacts sync'd with Gmail account or did you import from SIM card?

Hey there,
First of all, thanks for the quick reply.
No, my friend who's experiencing the same exact problem he is not using the same network.
I might give it a try and call the carrier but Im a tech support guy myself and Im afraid I already know what their answer will be...
Im sure me and my friend, we are not the only ones experiencing this problem. I remember some time ago reading something about this problem somewhere but I overlooked it as I thought it would never happen to me. Now I cannot find it anywhere.
I guess not many people report this problem because it doesnt stop you from using the phone and only affects one of your contacts. The thing is that its quite annoying, even more when I cannot text the person as the phone thinks I want to text the network operator.
I dont think this is an Android issues, I think its probably something with the HTC rom. My contacts were pulled from my previous phone via bluetooth. I do not store my contacts in my SIM card. On the phone I see my contacts under 'people'. Also, HTC links my contacts (between my friends on facebook and the ones I have under 'people')... And I think that this is actually the problem.
I tried already to unlink this one contact but still Im keeps getting operator messages under his number.
As I said, my friend who's experiencing the same exact problem is on a different network operator. Also, I bought my phone SIM Free (not linked to any operator), while he bought his under contract and not SIM Free.

Actually, just searching a bit further on Google with different keywords and found a guy in Mexico who's experiencing the same problem (Im in the UK). Also found a huge thread on androidforums with people from different carriers also reporting the same issues.
Will read a bit further to see if I can get this sorted. Apparently is being caused by the 'facebook contact sync' and disabling it stops it from happening.
Not really a good resolution though, as if the 'facebook contact sync' exists, then we should be able to use it without causing problems for other applications.

Hopefully it is as simple as that.
I don't use Facebook which is probably why I never had or have seen this issue.
Please do let me know if that fixes it.
Cheers.

[Q] Sync problems after rooting

hey everyone, i'm new to this whole rooting thing, and i havent seen any threads regarding problems yet, so i thought it might be useful to start one.
i dont know if i'm the only one experiencing this, but ever since i've rooted (stock tmobile rom, didnt touch the eng build or slidemeroot rom), i've experienced a major problem. i wiped my phone to factory settings prior to rooting to try to get it to root properly, and ever since rooting, i'm unable to sync my contacts saved on the tmobile website to my phone. syncing the weather, gmail, yahoo mail, and facebook all work perfectly, but sycning my tmobile account just isnt working.
it might be a server problem with tmobile, but is anyone else experiencing this? or maybe other problems?
normally i'd post this kind of problem somewhere like the tmobile forums, but i looked through there and nobody else has posted about any similar problem.
it's a tmobile issue.
My phone was doing this prior to rooting.
T-Mo fails at sync... I'd use Google to store contacts. Keep it in the cloud and those with the know how = Google.
lol
Its not fair to blame the mob... especially since YOU rooted your phone... they cant guarantee itll work if you change settings and the phone in general... come on now... I bet if you un-root and revert to stock itll work fine...
Lots of other people are having the sync issue that arent rooted.
There are threads on the official tmobile board.
And this has been going on with my phone since monday, prior to root.
In fact, if you log into your mytmobile account and go to the contacts page, you can see it hanging there trying to sync, it will eventually timeout and tell you its server error.

done and done. didnt realize this was a recurring problem with tmobile.
just to clear things up, i wasnt blaming anyone, i just thought it was strange that i was syncing fine until i rooted. i spoke too soon.
That always happens to me after every reboot. I have to check and uncheck tmo contacts or sync will continue forever. The best way is use gmail contacts and remove all myfavs and it will stop syncing forever. Yeah, all and all tmobile contacts suck. Why even use them? Google works better anyways. And you can always bkup to sim.

Meeting content in HTC Calendar

Hi everybody,
I use my Desire a lot at work and everything was working well until i got this wired problem.
I got a lot of Meeting requests, but when I open one of them I see only a header (from who, subject and when it was sent) in black background.
But "body" is empty! I am missing when the other side want to have this meeting!!!
My colleagues who have Desire doesn't have that problem only me.
What should I do?
Thankful for any guidance!
Anyone?
Still got the problem...
I have the same problem and asked on the forums but never got any reply.
I contacted HTC support and after 15 days or so of troubleshooting (a few wipes too) I got the response that the requested functionality is not implemented in the Desire.
All of my colleagues that have the Desire have the same problem so it's pretty strange that some of your colleagues can see when the meeting takes place...
a (very bad) workaround is to select "propose new time" and look at the meeting time. The settings you see when you get the "propose new time" window are actual meeting times. Still, this is not nearly as good as it was on Windows mobile (it even warned about conflicting times, etc.).
not much of a help...
Whats worse I hade same functionality in the begining, but can't say when exactly it stopped working.

Hi
I have just checked my calendar and I can not see any issues. All details are present and correct as I would expect them to be. Could it have anything to with software version, etc?
Kind regards
Scott
Remove calendars, sync phone, add calendars again? I used to have similar problems, content missing in calendar...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Maybe I misunderstood the problem. My issue is that when the meeting request is in my Inbox I can't see the meeting date/time. Once the meeting is in the calendar everything's fine.
Mofolino, is this the issue you're having?
I'm having same problem with my Wildfire.
As I could understand after performing a thorough search on the internet (many forums, support sites and etc.) - the root cause of the problem is Froyo. This is not device specific issue.
In 2.1 version of the Android everything were fine.
Let's hope they will fix this issue in 2.3

Message bug since update

I have a very strange bug since downloading and installing the latest OTA update. I'm just running a stock system if you need to know.
Basically after the update I went to messages and some old messages I have are shown as being received from the completely wrong person :S These messages were not originally received on my desire HD but I put them all on it when I got the phone. The original person who sent them is in my contact list and linked with their facebook account and all that. Before the update it was showing the messages as being sent from the correct person.
Is there any way to fix this...it's very frustrating as there are over 50 messages which it has done this for.
I cannot say if it's doing it with new messages as that person is away on holiday so I can't check but messages received on my DHD from them seem to be ok...it's only happened with the messages I transferred onto the phone.
Thanks
Also I've now tried backing up all those messages to my gmail account using the SMS Backup+ app. They appear on my gmail from the original sender, then I deleted them off my phone and restored them using the app but it goes back to being shown as the wrong person (it keeps linking it to the same wrong person). The only details I have of the wrong person are what has been sync'd from facebook. There is no connection between them and the original sender (and I've checked all the contact links).
Also I wanted to try deleting that wrong person and then restoring the messages but I cannot figure out how to delete them off the phone. They are only on the phone because of the facebook contact sync so when I try delete contact it gives me a list of my contacts which they are not on as they're only in the 'people' section. I guess deleting them of facebook would work but I don't want to do that if possible.
Sorry if this is getting confusing.
well, tried to unlink facebook contacts with your contacts ?
I have this problem as well, only happened after the latest update.
I think to rectify this a new update will be released from HTC as this bug was also present on the original Desire phone, and resolved with a update.
Very annoying I agree, lets hope its fixed soon.
Just out of interest which country are you in and which network are you on?
Im in UK and on T-Mobile.

I'm in the UK on o2 but the phone was bought new unlocked.
I even went as far as deleting the person off facebook. The messages then appeared as they should from the original contact but I then re-added that person and as soon as they accepted it linked the messages back to them. Its so strange as these people have nothing to do with each other, their names aren't even similar.

I rectified this problem by conducting a hard reset.
Probably not the news you want to hear, but it solved the problem for me.

Well I thought about it but decided to contact HTC support first. They suggested that I backup all my contacts to my SD card then delete them all off the phone. I really didn't see how this would help since the person being linked to the messages wasn't a 'contact' he was just added to the People app by facebook.
Also another thing I noticed is that on facebook some people choose to put their phone numbers up which get put on the phone when you sync your facebook contacts with the phone. This particular person decided to be clever and instead of putting actual numbers they put things like 'Mobile: I'm not telling you' so the number was saved on the phone as 'I'm not telling you'. I decided to go in and edit these on the phone (cause you can't delete them) to just numbers i.e. '12345' so that none of his numbers were text.
Then in desperation I went and did what HTC recommended, deleting my contacts and restoring them and the problem was fixed!!!!
Unfortunately I can't confirm which of the 2 methods I tried actually work cause I did them without checking to see if they problem had been fixed in between.
So for anyone else with this problem. Check the person who the messages are being linked to, if they have text for their phone numbers, edit them to numbers (any numbers). If this doesn't work go to People>Menu>Import/Export>Export to SD card, then select all the contacts. Then in People go to Menu>Delete>Menu>Select all and confirm. Then restore the contacts by going to People>Menu>Import/Export>Import from SD card and that should do it!!

Stupid Android SMS Bug

it's finally happened.
Yesterday, I sent quite a sexual content text message to my girlfriend, BUT my employee received it.
The text I sent to my girlfriend showed up on the conversation between me & my gf, but she did not received it. However my employee received it.
How freaking annoying.
I have contacted HTC & am waiting for the answer. I bet you that the answer is: please hard reset your phone.
D
It's not an HTC issue but a Google issue, which they're aware of. No fix as yet...
**** are you kiddin' me i'm going to freak out if this really happens on our phones
Happened once to me, luckily sent it to Facebook instead of my mate but wasn't anything important
This isn't something that happens easily. Google have stated its a freak event that they (AFAIK) haven't been able to replicate thus haven't been able to fix the issue yet.
Sent from my GT-P1000
This has happened to me, my brother, and my girlfriend, and has happened to me multiple occasions, although only once with a text meant for my girlfriend lol!
As for the bug, I read on the BBC website, a news article, a few weeks ago, stating that google found it hard to replicate the bug, but have, and are working on a fix.

Biff.
Have Google come out and said what the conditions that cause this are yet, if they've been able to replicate the bug?

Yes they can replicate the issue, it's been moved from 'medium' to 'critical' priority since it's been getting more media coverage. They have know about it for well over six months. This is an old issue they haven't been bothered to fix.
Look here for the original issue post, it's got all the information you can possibly soak up on the matter.

[Q] HELP! Mystery text messages?

It seems that my phone is sending ~90 text messages a night to one of my contacts, but they aren't showing up in my sent messages (stock messaging app or Handcent), or listed in my usage when I check my plan online. When my friend called his carrier, they said that one of the phones must have a virus. He doesn't have a smart phone, so I'm guessing that my phone is the one with the problem. No one else has mentioned this to me, but it's happened two nights in a row now.
Has anyone heard of this happening? I'm running CM Nightly #32, but nothing too fancy other than that. I'm going to try a full wipe and reinstall, but I wanted to tap into the knowledge here and see if anyone knows what this is and how to stop it.
weird. what does it say in his smses?
Check all of your applications that have permission to send SMS messages. One of them may be nefarious.
I've had this happen with nokia dumbphones before. Where are the two of you located? it seems to happen a lot in Europe. I was living in Poland for a few years, and I often had random or 10x copied messages from people. It was usually a network thing, and nobody was ever charged for it, even when an international SMS was delivered tons of times.
We're both in Philadelphia (US), he's on Verizon and I'm on T-mo. His phone is older and dumb, but not a Nokia, I don't think.
Am I right that if I had picked up some kind of virus other people would be receiving hundreds of texts, too?
In any case, I think that the full wipe has taken care of it. I am still interested in finding out what exactly happened, if anyone has any more ideas.
