I just installed android update FF18 following QBkings video. Next I tried installing agats CWM recovery following QBkings video. It won't install. I've tried many times and redownloaded many times. USB debugging is on and my PC recognizes my phone. It finishes and reboots like it should but when I boot into recovery I'm still stock. Only thing I noticed is superuser won't update. I don't know if that has anything to do with it but wanted add that. Anyone have any suggestions?

Use mobile odin.
Works for me every time.
If superuser is an issue, re-odin FF18 root.
You should probably try to use sfhub's one-click to make sure you're rooted correctly then use his Autoroot to add Agat's CWM kernel.
Yeah I think ur right, I'm probably not rooted correctly.

OK i got it, so if I'm not rooted correctly then the recovery will not install. And instead of installing the ff18 android update on Qbkings video, just run sfhubs one click instead like the EL29 one click I used when I first rooted my phone back in February ? And then install agats recovery.

Yes. But unsure why the steps didn't work if you followed the video. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229

If you used sfhub's one-click FF18 (Stock plus root) then all you have to do is use his Autoroot package [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 I suggest downloading the 'full' version] to add FF18-CWM-agat-src kernel.
Then I'd also grab Agat's latest (2.3) safe kernel [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421]and flash that via CWM.
Good luck.
Thanks leaderbuilder ill try it when I get home

? Just being rooted will not stop the update. In fact most paths will let you take the update and brick your phone if you actually did things like removing system apps. Luckily thats usually a soft brick.
Are you on EL29, some other Gingerbread, one of the 4.0.3/4.0.4 leaks or FF18? There hasnt been a "New OTA" in a month. If your not on FF18 and you want FF18 just odin it.
Fh13 update possibly or just sending out ff18 again.? Hmmmm

it's FF18 update and im on el29. I read more about it and mentioned that adobe flash will not work on ICS build and seen battery drainage from users who updated their phones. I guess I'll wait till the patches roll out if needed. Also can't flash with clockwork recovery installed. It has to be stock recovery.

LOL Flash works fine on ICS, are you sure you were not reading about Jelly Bean? Which still works in just no new installs allowed.
Besides as of today Adobe is supposed to have pulled Flash for ALL phones on all android versions that dont already have it installed
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/14/psa-adobe-halts-new-installs-of-flash-on-android-as-of-tomorrow/
You can flash FF18 OTA, in clockworkmod, or flash the tar in odin that we had 3 weeks prior to the OTA. I flashed a tar/one click earlier for testing and someone else flashed a zip for it in clockwork mod using a safe recovery.
Taking the OTA means you loose root anyways, not sure why people think they want the OTA. With no root exploit youd have to flash an prerooted one in odin.
I tried to flash it with the original update and looked like it was going to update but after the animation showing as a box with a arrow unpacking the update it threw me into the Android with the exclamation screen. Had to battery pull and safe to say that my phone is safe and not bricked.

Well once again its going to rape you of root and the only way to get root is the same way to get rooted FF18 from where you are. Mind you the update to FF18 is not without its issues. Swype for example you have to delete its data for it to work again. Best bet is to backup your stuff and wipe it.

I am currently on stock fh13 unrooted at the moment (not my first time flashing a rom) and i am wondering what steps do i take to flash the rom.
Can i do this?
1) transfer the rom onto the internal sd card
2) odin back to stock el29 with qbking77 videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vmEmheJnyg
3) root the el29 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7pWjmKCsoc
4) download mobile odin
5) flash the el29 directboot cwm 5.0.2.7
6) then follow the instructions in this video, except the different version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPHUlfdcQc0
Thanks
Why not just odin stock el29 rooted? Takes out the rooting step as the root is already included. The mobile odin el29 direct boot kernel.

I am assuming yes. As using Odin you just need the right file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
download the 6.5 .TAR file and follow the video.
put your phone in download mode.
open ODIN, make sure only auto reboot is checked
load .tar file into pda slot.
hook your phone up to the cable. (you'll see a yellow box with COM:xx) means your connected.
press start.
Wait until phone has rebooted. Good to go
Awesome I shall give that a shot after I read a couple more threads.

I would recommend upgrading your kernel to Agat's 6.5 kernel or FI27 kernel repack.

Yes. I did so and I used option 7 in the toolkit. But you can just download the stock recovery file from the dev section and flash it through the PDA slot of Odin.

Thanks, BTW would you have the link to the one to use in ODIN, Just not sure what search to do. THANKS!
I would recommend using the toolkit. I don't know where the file is for the stock recovery. The toolkit downloads all the files you need and simply walks you through the steps of using Odin to flash it. It even puts the device into download mode for you and opens odin for you. The only way it would be easier is if you didn't have to even navigate through Odin.
Or you could always go to the QBKing77 video that was linked earlier. He always has links in the description of his videos, and he's one of the best instructors out there at rooting, unrooting, and everything in between.

Now that we have the latest official release for the new TouchWiz GB27 4.1.2, I figured I would update this thread for those that have downloaded the update from FL24 to GB27 via Kies.
This guide was written for Sprint devices however the procedure is the same for Boost and Virgin variants of the Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch. The only difference is the kernel you flash after rooting.
You WILL need to use a PC in order to gain root access
DISCLAIMER
DO NOT USE AGAT RECOVERY TO FLASH ANY AOSP ROM. THERE HAVE BEEN CASES OF HARD BRICKS.
I WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO WITH YOUR DEVICE. THESE METHODS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND ARE PROVEN TO WORK. FAILURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS MAY GIVE YOU UNEXPECTED RESULTS.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
How to root with SuperSU
You will need...
Odin3_v3.04
Source built Jelly Bean kernel
SuperSU-v0.97
Stock GB27 kernel zip - optional
SuperSU from the Play Store
1. Using a Windows XP or greater based computer, download and extract Odin to a directory which you are comfortable using. You can extract to your desktop if you want. I personally use my documents folder.
2. Power off then press and hold volume down and power to enter download mode, plug in your USB cable after opening Odin. Click on PDA to select and flash the source built kernel.
3. Download this file and reboot to recovery by pressing and holding volume up and power then flash SuperSU-v0.97.zip
4. After flashing the SuperSU zip, flash the GB27 stock kernel and reboot. This is now optional, the source built kernel works perfectly and can be used as a DD.
5. Download SuperSU from the Play Store.
6. Open the SuperSU app and update the binary.
This method WILL trigger the yellow triangle and increase your flash counter by 1 count.

One-Click Method
You will need...
GB27 Rooted Nodata
1. Download the Rooted Nodata from the link above.
2. Using a Windows XP or greater computer, open the One-Click package.
3. Power down your phone and then press and hold volume down + power to enter download mode. Plug in your USB cable.
4. Click start.
This method WILL NOT trigger the yellow triangle or increase your flash counter.
You now have root access. Congratulations.
Do you have an ugly yellow triangle after performing one of the first two methods? Do you want to get rid of that and reset your flash counter back to 0?
Chainfire has an app for that!

If I had the know how, I'd try making a repack. And as far as I know, agat was startinghis computer from scratch due to issues building from source.
