I'm very pleased with my new Galaxy S3!
Little background about me, I've had Apple products for 10+ years and have had all the iPhone models since original release. From iMac's to Airports and iPods.. I have them all. In love apple you might think. But I am no fan boy.
I have tried the Samsung flagship devices every time they release one. I have had a infuse 4g, and galaxy s2 prior to getting the s3. I've always returned them because it was difficult for me to use and for some reason always had rebooting issues.
I was very excited when I saw galaxy s3 information and released date. I got it the day it came out for at&t.
I did lots of research on vanilla android because I just hated touchwiz so much.
I rooted and installed CWM. And finally I ended up with Cyanogenmod. I'm extremely happy. And I actually like using my phone.
Everything my iPhone did is much easier on this and the screen is close to the iPhone 4s which was important.
Anything I don't like, I can change!
Just thought I'd share with everyone and I will be on here a lot!

Hey, welcome to Android & XDA! I remember when I first picked up an Android device, because T-Mobile was literally trying to shove it down my throat for free, and they finally got me to bite by throwing in a $200 credit on top of it because my contract was ending, even though I had no intentions of leaving, lol! I was fascinated by it immediately and over the next two months I had acquired 3 more Android phones! I wish I would've discovered XDA sooner, I was on these other forums, and I kept hearing ppl mentioning XDA and I finally asked if it was a Rom or something? (Oh Boy did I get flamed for that)
The iphone hacking/jail breaking really doesn't compare to the vast amount of potential that a popular Android handset like the GS3 has. So many tweaks, mods, and choices its difficult to decide what you want sometimes? If you run into anything that leaves you at all unsure, then feel free to PM me, and if I can't provide you with a definitive answer then I'll point you to someone that can. Now I don't know if I was behind the curve at all, but it seemed like a lot to soak in at first for me, and I really hated asking what I thought were stupid questions, but it was how I had to learn sometimes. So if you are looking for anything, have any questions, or just want an opinion, I'll always answer Pm's.
Good luck, have fun, and most of all enjoy the community & your new toy!

Welcome to Android and xda (home)! I used an iPhone for awhile from February til the EVO LTE was released. I noticed a few things about the iPhone that lead me back to Android:
1) I got generally bored with it
2) I found the lack of options/settings annoying as I was unable to set certain personal preferences.
3) Organization of settings and preferences is illogical on the iPhone
4) Fake multi-tasking is pointless. If I wanted to have my pictures upload to sugar sync or Box I had to keep the phone open to the app or the upload process would stop until I returned to the app screen.
5) I can get more information faster on my Android phone than the iPhone- this is due to widgets, a more sophisticated notification drawer, and IMO better app integration and organization.
FWIW, I am currently using my 6+ year old VAIO but my next computer will likely be a mac book air and I stopped using an iPod when I started using smart phones.
I just switched from iPhone to android also. Like android a lot it beats ios hands down but iPhone is still on top when it comes to apps and games I wish that would change soon.

I remember when... LOL... I was on my old 8525 and guys were starting to port over android... you couldn't do crap but there were these crazy things called 'widgits'. I did the dual boot, but thought, winMO was here to stay!!!.... :silly:
Google owes the devs here a bunch of love for their work on pushing the OS as far as it has. Compare that to the "evolution" of the iOS - you'll see there's always some exciting new things coming our way. OK, not as polished as the apple apps.. but much more risque...
I can't stand the little bitty iPhone screen.
Same story for me bro. I I have every iPad out there (1,2,3), Mac Book Pro, MacBookAir, 4 iPhones, and Apple TV. I am no Apple fanboi.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I left iPhone after being with one since its initial release. I stopped at the iPhone 4. If they had come up with something better then the iPhone 4s, I probably would've stayed but I got tired of Apple always releasing outdated stuff (small screen, no 4g, slow processor, etc)
Since the 4, I had the Dell Streak 5 , HTC Inspire, Samsung Galaxy Tab (hacked to use as cell phone), Samsung Galaxy S II, and now the S III.
The main reason I am with Android is because of this forum, I love being able to change anything on my phone that needs changing, and the tons of roms that I can change to if I get bored of one.

I'm just curious- I just sold my E4GT for an iPhone 4S- as to what your opinions are! This will be my first iPhone, I've only had android for smartphones (well Win6.1 for a few months). (although the E4GT is still my favorite phone ever).
I know this sounds like a "I'm leaving" thread, but it isn't meant to be. Just wondering what people may like about the iPhone vs. this phone, and what they hate! For me, I'm looking forward to the battery life, and the retina display, but will miss google nav, gtalk, gmail app, the notifications, etc.
If there's anyone who has both these phones, and could give some insight, please chime in.
There's a good chance I'll be back, since I change out phones every 6 months (and I got an iPhone because I've never used that OS before, so I'm curious), but I may try Win7 mobile before coming back to android as well.
On a side note, if everyone is really just hating on this thread, and I was an idiot for creating it and causing drama, I will just close it. Sorry all, was just really curious, not trying to create anything!!
My girlfriend has the iPhone, and she loves it. You'll instantly find that without jailbreak, you really can't customize the phone. For 80% of folks that's fine, very similar to the WinPhone7 experience, but you wouldn't be on XDA if you want to keep your phone stock
I will say that the application quality is better on iOS devices, seems like developers put a little more polish into them.
I'm currently in the same dilemma... Mainly because of apps. A lot of apps on iOS either take too long, or don't get released on Android at all. -Yes we have probably almost the same amount of apps on Android as on iOS, but not quality apps. Besides, for me as a startup app developer, iOS is better for business I was waiting for the SGS III, but was disappointed. Would have gotten the One X, if sprint imo wouldn't have uglyfied it. So now I'm waiting for the new iPhone, and hopefully it won't be an iPhone 4SS. Then I might consider switching too.
PS. see, not hate we can communicate in a mature manner
I think whosdaman (Korey) just came back to the E4GT from an iPhone and he has also had the OG Epic I am sure you can get some feedback from him all around.
I havent had the chance to use one but I put it to most people like this. If you've bought into one system why switch? If you really haven't and you like the other then don't let any stop you from having it your way.

I will definitely be jailbreaking the iPhone, I need my wifi-tether haha! Yea I'm excited for the applications, there are so much more on there. What's nice is that EA and Gameloft have a lot of sales, so all the games can be had for $0.99, if you wait for the right time (although still can't beat the market's $0.10 appsale).

Their battery is about the same for me but the iPhone 4s has battery on sleep mode/ standby but the E4GT has better battery while in use but by the end of the day their battery drainage is about the same. Camera seems better on the E4GT maybe it's just the screen. Seriously though it's whatever floats your boat. You like massive apps, buying accessories and just want a simple phone then stick to the iPhone, for everything else E4GT is better in my opinion I hate the size of the iPhone screen and it gets boring after 2 days.

Honestly, I love the learning process of new phones, which is why I switch so often. I still have not had a Motorola or Apple smartphone ever, so those were next on my list. I went from the Samsung Instinct to HTC Diamond to HTC Hero, to Epic 4G to E4GT, and now iPhone 4S.
I have put a lot of effort into android, but I can always come back. Plus I will admit, that I will probably spend less time on forums in general (still will be on XDA a bit) since you can't customize the iPhone as much. That was another key aspect of getting a phone like the iPhone....I will have more time to study for the GMATs instead of being drawn to all these amazing devs and their work!

I freaking hated jailbreaking the iPhone(on the 3gs days), everything stops working like Cydia when a new update/OS is available then you have to jailbreak all over again and spend so much time bringing everything back, it's one of the few updates I dont ever look forward to because of the hassle. My girl has my iPhone 4s now it had nothing to offer me that my E4GT couldn't do

My wife and I both used to have original Evo's and about 6 months ago I went to the e4gt, and she went with the iPhone 4s. We frequently use each others phones and we both have likes and dislikes. Here are some of our big complaints:
Most of these are the obvious *****es that everyone has...
No 4G
Small screen
No back button
No external storage
Your clueless friends act like you finally decided to get a smartphone.
Positives are:
Camera is much better
High quality look and feel. (The brushed aluminum is a nice touch)
Siri is really cool. (I have tried the leaked S voice app, and I don't think we will see anything that comes close to Siri in the next couple of years)
The iOS is very polished. The cliche is true, "it just works"...
Manufacturers of other products (home or mobile audio mainly) gear everything towards iPhone.
I personally wouldn't go to an iPhone, but I like tinkering and customizing. My wife just wants stability, excellent camera, and good battery life. I definitely see the attraction of both devices. They both have their positives and negatives, it just comes down to preference. Have fun!

Yep when you try and jailbreak, that's when you realize it's not as straightforward as you'd like.
I am waiting for the new iPhone as well, as long as it has a larger screen, LTE, and maybe starting at 32gb (I wish!)
Yeah I have both and iPhone is for people who don't do a lot with their phone. Your paying sprint 10 dollars extra and you get slow 3g. And the screen is so small.
But it is a great phone. Maybe if it were bigger and had lte maybe but sprint 3g is horrible. If your on wifi its OK.
Pure ICS only
You will curse the screen for being so tiny on a daily basis.

My sister has an iPhone and I just jailbroke it for her yesterday. It's amazing how you can customize it with Jailbreaking... I made her phone look like the SII haha. But I still prefer Android because you can customize more even compared to jailbroken iPhones, and jailbreaking isn't completely stable. I'd say that custom ROMs on our phone are in general (not like nightly builds, but regular ROMs) are more stable than jailbroken features on iPhones. I personally don't like the shape of the iPhone or the small screen. Siri also isn't anything special IMO because no one ever ends up using it... just something to brag with. Like I seriously haven't met anyone who used Siri on a daily basis for functionality. To be honest, it's faster looking at a weather widget or opening a weather app than telling Siri to get the weather anyways.

How is it a zillion clicks lol. The only one click root for the E4GT I have seen once the app is running, its one click. The auto rooter was never advertised as a one click if thats what you mean. Maybe something else back in the EG30 days but i cam just before EK02 went ota.
I thought about getting an iphone but several things turned me off about it. First the hardware feels dated and screen seems small compared to this phone. Second in order to do anything with the files on the phone you have to use a software interface of some sort. For example you cant just plug into any pc, xfer files then unplug, you need itunes. Finally it just feels like a dumbed down content delivery device to me. Android feels and functions like a computer and I like that. I do understand how the simplicity of iphone would appeal to many but its just not for me. I also like being a bit different and popping down my S2 on the table with all my friends iphones at the restaurant or bar.

My job provided me with an iPhone and I use the E4GT personally.
The iPhone "just works"...but thats it...Its a no thrills phone that just works.
I personally love my E4GT but it takes much tweaking to make it yours.
I will admit. SIRI is awesome but i feel like its just a gimmick for the "Lazy" person who doesn't want to take the few extra steps to do what SIRI does for you.
It is a learning curve but in the end, it really is up to the person and their preference.
I had both, sold the iPhone. I will never own another apple device. The best thing about android is that its open source. That is how things should be. The iPhone was too small, not customizable, and the majority of the apps are paid apps. Also, downloads took FOREVER! I also tried a Galaxy Nexus and sold it this morning. Im sticking with the E4GT until something freaking spectacular pops up. My main things about the E4GT that keep me here: Processor is fast, screen looks fantastic, camera is badass, and the roms are plentiful.
I owned iPhones for years, the biggest deal breaker by far is the tiny screen size. Buy even if it was a larger screen I would never ever be able to go back.
I do see how it is better for average users who just want something that is easy and works out of the box

So i been a android user and for almost two years, my first phone was the Samsung moment on Sprint, rooted the phone still suck! Got me an evo 4g and was the best phone I ever had (came from bb and iPhone), alot people got to know the evo, but some people still asked me "is the a Droid?" verizon marketing did a lot for Android, move forward a few years anyone knows and iPhone or android, but no phone is famous at all, or at least that's what I thought, now I had my gs3 since launch day, and just in this past weeks, 5 people been able to recognize it, from walmart store, to grocery store and gas station (specially when you pay with nfc), so it looks like the galaxy s III brand is recognized and Samsung did a good job by putting the same phone on all carriers, makes me wonder has anyone else recognized your phone? And I'm not talking about tech people, just regular consumers?

Why do most people just call it "droid" or "android"? It sounds really silly if you ask me and it's all because of verizon's marketing.

90% of apple owners don't wanna hear about android. People buy iphones just because its an iPhone. Its like shoes, people buy nikes because they are nikes if you get a Nike and put the sketchers logo on it, no ones going to want it. Truth is gs3 kicks the iPhones asssss. I think the gs2 kicked the iPhones ass.

Around the time the original tmobile mytouch I switch to android and haven't looked back since. Bought a gs3 about 2 weeks ago and for the first time it's not "what phone is that" but "how do like that phone... I want one real bad". Personally I love tmo and love my gs3. Now iphone I have never liked but I get why it's huge... Great for what most people do with their phone but iphone may have been out played by the gs3 and could lose a healthy share of their market. I finally ran into someone who had the exact same phone as me yesterday. We had a bit of fun with that. She said her battery life was pretty good. I disagreed, but then again I also have mine overclocked to 1.9Ghz.. So I'm happy
Here's the thing: I'm in high school, and love developing. I love the android platform because it's so much more open than, say iOS. I currently have an iPhone 4S, and my mother is going to get a new phone tomorrow. This will be her first smartphone. I know iOS is more user-friendly and Siri would be a great help to her, since she drives a lot but also likes to text/talk to her friends. So what I'm wondering, is should I give my mom my iPhone, and get a Galaxy Nexus? Are they still top of the line devices? I've been longing for android ever since my samsung continuum broke and I was talked into getting this piece of garbage. I know that my mom's interested in smartphones, and I was thinking that my iPhone would probably be the best thing for her instead of an android. Or, should I let her get an android and then keep my iPhone? Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it.
well has she tried to use your iphone yet? let her try it. and the nexus still seems to be a live and licking device i just bought mine last night and i love it.
if your momo doesnt like the iphone take her in to the store and look at some of the lower end android phones. im not sure what cell provider you have though or i could recommend some to you.
Is the nexus top of the line? Not anymore. Is it a great phone? Most definitely. And it's still a very relevant device. Plenty of development, and will continue for quite some time.

Well, you'd be doing her a disservice but it depends on a lot of things, not the least of which is budget.
My thoughts: if you can get her a "powerful" android (as in, Galaxy Nexus or better, using your judgment and keeping in mind that some newer devices don't quite have the software edge) then do that. But, if it means you have to keep your iPhone.. well, I can't make that decision for you, it depends how much you like her I guess

GN is probably the best bang for the buck at this particular moment, especially if you custom ROM the hell out of it. Plus, it's relatively cheap so good if you're on a budget. (Make sure you take full advantage of its unlocked pentaband and go prepaid, preferably for the $30/month plan, which results in massive savings over time.) That said, it's about a year old and will be succeeded by the next Nexus within a few months.
Well is your mom tech-savy? No? Give her the iPhone. Yes? Buy her the next iPhone, it is just around the block.
Is Gnex top-of-the-line smartphone RIGHT NOW? NOPE. If you want top-of-the-line hardware, GS3 or HTC One X.
Is Gnex still an amazing phone? YUP! Despite the lower specs, Gnex runs smooth and fast.
Should you get it over GS3? I dunno. If you don't mind lower hardware or maybe you're on a budget, Gnex. If you definitely need top-of-the-line hardware, GS3.
My dad got an iphone4 and likes it my mom has had, palm Pre(my old) 3vo, and droid RAZR, and a touchpad cm9.
Now my dad its his first smartphone so iPhone is good for him. Mom on the other hand doesn't like iPhone.
On side note the nexus s(2010) is getting or got android JB. so I would imagine the gnex will get android K&L

Honestly, the S3 is my first Android device. Before this I had an iPhone 4 and before that an iPhone 3GS.
Things that I love about my Galaxy S3?
Google Navigation and maps, and the blinking LED, which I find incredibly useful!
Things I miss about iOS? My Shure earphones with mic / volume control don't work with the Sammie S3. Also, believe it or not, I miss iMessage.
But the ability to customize Android takes the cake. I used to jailbreak my Apple all the time... Even without rooting or switching to a custom ROM, the flexibility of Android is outstanding!
I'm LOVING the S3!!!!
I am also loving my S3. I was gonna hold of on the note 2 but have a nexus 7 and didn't really want a phone that big. Really wish the US S3 had the quad core though

They've actually GOT the patent GRANTED.
I have been an android user for several years now. I have been burning roms for my Inspire 4G with regularity. Now I have an s3 and I love it just the way it is. Although I couldn't resist rooting and adding CWM.
My employer makes me carry a iphone 4s for mail and phone purposes. After growing accustomed to touchdown, I really feel handicapped by the built in exchange support apple gave me. It sucks quite simply.
Tonight I got an email from our IT department telling me to not use my phone to respond to any meeting invitation as it could delete the invite for ALL recipients. I must wait for Apple to release an update for ios 6.
What I detest about the iPhone? The store- I have to enter my password each time. Tiny screen, crappy auto-correct, no back button. What do I like? Delete mail animation.

What model Shure's are you using?
Would love to hear what kind of setup you had with the iphone and now the GS3. Can't help you with the volume, but you can get a cable with a mic. Lol. But seriously, when I'm listening to music I don't want a mic, I don't think I'd use the volume but if i could advance a song that would be nice.
Current setup:
Shure SE315, paid version Equilizer and fiio E6 portable amplifier. (fx music off) I can rock and I'm about to really upgrade.
If you don't have your Shure's running through a portable amplifier, your missing out.
Thanks

Loving my Galaxy s III (i747)
I was going to stick with my GS2 but finally caved and upgraded to the Galaxy SIII (i747). I still miss the size of the GS2 (fit better in my hand), but the features (screen clarity, camera app, motion features, etc) on the GS3 are amazing. After 4 months of running stock, I finally went on a flashing spree and have finally settled on Ariel 2.10 ICS Stock/Moded ROM.
GS3 vs iPhone
I've always been an Android user and the GS3 is by far the best. My wife, due to following trend, insisted on having an iPhone 4S. After her and I doing a side by side comparison, she wishes she had gone with a GS3 as well. I enjoy flashing, rooting, customizing, and getting under the hood of my devices. It is interesting to see that Apple has played catch up on iPhone 5. It will also be interesting to see how their reputation continues to hold up within the next few years with their attempts to dominate the market through litigation.
Anyone check out the Xperia Ion? My mom had gotten it yesterday and said she didn't like it. The phone has a 12MP camera, but in my opinion that's the only good feature. The shape of the phone itself (big square with a rounded back) makes it uncomfortable to hold. The speaker is horrible. You have to hold the phone to your ear to hear things from the speaker. Software wise it isn't terrible. They give you a good amount of theme options straight out of the box.
Stock ICS on my S3
much mminemp
the i5 has better drop test results then the s3 they need to make more sturdy phones
My first android was the S2 SR. The phone was perfect save for the music player, I just couldn't find one I liked so I just tote my iPhone 4 around for music. Apple makes good music players but that's where it ends for me. Since I've used Android, iOS just doesn't cut it for me and I probably won't ever use another iPhone as a primary phone again.

S3 Better than iPhone 5

the S3 has a curvy feeling with being thin rather than boxy which is where it makes the sides and enclosure of the gs3 as a whole weaker.
If it was a box like the iPhone 5 it'd be better enclosure-wise yes...but than not as many people would love the s3

The Ion isn't too bad but I agree on the shape. Xperia's interface doesn't flow as well as TouchWiz does at all. Media-wise yes it's great but otherwise it doesn't
appeal as nicely as the s3 would. Xperia rooting also is more of a pain than samsung has ever been. Their camea's megapixel is higher, and always has been but
I dont see it being the solid reason to get one.
I started with the Blackberry Bold, then went with a cheap Windows Phone for a while, and now have the Galaxy S3. First time Android owner here.
I think I will grow to love Android. My first impression was that, out of the box, my Windows Phone was better. It felt quicker and did the things I wanted to better. I absolutely LOVE how much customization is available for Android phones, though, so I have a feeling that I will definitely love this phone, once I've tinkered around with it.
So when does Samsung think it'll be right to let all of us android virgins in on some of their secrets? Here's one of my favorites - No app to sd UNLESS the app is "at least 1 gig in size" (so why sell the device with the external sd slot?)

Well said. My first smarty was blackberry - no joke - I thought I was made, man. Then HTC Inspire blew my socks off. In a couple months I was up for an upgrade. Did my research and got the powerful sgs3. OMG and all that! But now I'm sooo bummed. No sd recognition other than memory capacity. Sammy says it's just the way they made it. When I said their promotions didn't reveal the fact that there was no "app2sd" capability UNLESS the app used 1g+ (I found that tidbit out only days ago), the response was something close to 'sorry about your luck.'
I dunno how this looks to others, but I feel that the sgs3 was misrepresented. Whether deliberately or not, that's not my issue. I'm no dev or geek, so when you sell me on the monster memory, unequaled personalization, and myriad other bells n whistles, I'm gonna expect that ability. But don't tell me it's mine with an after-the-fact 'btw just the phone and some of its power are yours; you'll never be the 'administrator' unless you wanna void our warranty... ' I'm just saying...

Stop crying about apps to sd-card here is what you need : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849857
I hear this is the place to ask so, I'll take a swing. SG3 vs HTC OX+? I'll be picking one up tomorrow. I've read the reviews. Each seems to have pros and cons. The HTC is much faster, the SG3 has a memory card slot, removable battery, and a bigger support base. I'm hoping for some real world input please..
Here is the situation:
I am a 23 year old CIS Grad who loves technology, computers, and my phone.
Current Phone - iPhone 4 (Needed trusty OS and previously had a Fascinate, Droid, iPhone 3G)
Carrier - Verizon
Upgrade Available? - Yes
Reasons I am on iOS
I steered clear of Android over the last few years because they release so many phones that I always feel that I will get the short end of the stick, see a newer, better phone, and want to kill myself.
Android Updates are just inconsistent (unless you have a Nexus, which is already outdated).
Reasons I Shouldn't Be on iOS
I love customizing my phone
I love rooting my phone
I love experimenting with the OS
So, should I get the Samsung Galaxy S III?
Wait for a newer, better phone this holiday season?
Other phones I am interested in -
HTC 8X
I'd wait for note 2 or next nexus. The next nexus is gonna be announced at tje end of this month

Well we already have jelly Bean albeit it's a leak but near perfect
Removable battery
Wires that don't cost a fortune

Has a perfect weight/thickness (my friends complain about it being too thin)(not joking or sarcasm from them)
Google maps will forever be> Apple maps
No camera problems (iPhone has that pink thing)
Removable battery
Cdma versions already have cm10 and miui and paranoid and aosp and aokp

I would get the S3 over the new nexus any day. Only for one reason though LG is making it and I will never own something from LG again. I have had bad luck with LG everything and I mean everything I have ever bought that was LG was complete **** IMO. Even with it beaning a new nexus I feel the S3 still is far more superior. Good luck on your choice.

I find it funny that one of your reasons for avoiding Android has been because of the wide variety of choices, fearing that as soon as you purchase a phone it'll already be outdated.....
So to remedy this you went ahead and chose a proprietary phone that was outdated 6 months before it was even available to purchase!
ICS is good on the S3. With the right custom TW ROM, you get good speed, a smooth UI, good battery life, and that it's easier to use than GB (my wife has the Conquer 4G).
I've used the JB leak though, and can confirm its faster, easier to use, provides better battery life, and seems to have enabled better data speeds (although, this could just be a placebo) than my current favorite TW ICS ROM. I believe KLP will see even more improvements, and that's due out towards the end of the month (rumor has it).
As far as phone hardware goes. This is technology. Of course it will be outshine shortly after release! The market is competitive, and that means the consumer wins. You can't go wrong in getting the SGS3 right now. Likewise, if you wanted to wait, nobody would blame you for holding out for the Note 2, or a new Nexus device, or HTC's answer to the SGS3, or the SGS4.....I could keep going because there'll always be something around the corner.
So break out of the pen, sell your wool, leave the apple where it fell and get yourself a phone that you've researched and are confident meets your needs - then come back here to XDA, do more research (use search please), and make your device unique, one-of-a-kind, and expect the best from your device.
Cause that's what XDA's all about...enabling probability in the natural pursuit of demanding excellence from the things we enjoy.

I'd wait for the fall/winter offerings
I have only owned 4 smartphones so my opinion may not be on great use. However I thoroughly enjoy the S3 and have to say it is my favorite phone..plus I haven't even rooted it yet. My first smartphone was an iPhone 3g so of course I loved it, but when I got my Inspire I never looked back. I rooted my Inspire and flashed the hell out of it. Every other week it felt like I had a new phone with new tips and tricks to learn. I never felt like my phone was outdated although it was.
After I was eligible to upgrade I picked up an Evo 4G Lte which I ended up returning. The only things I miss are the build quality and audio quality. I'm not saying the S3 doesn't have good sound because it does, and it is much louder than the Evo was. The build quality is fine as well, but I liked the kickstand and "metal" body. Regardless of those two factors I still love my S3. I have yet to root it and feel that if I do I will love it that much more. I also feel that with the internals, screen, and software this phone is packing, it is a definite winner. ICS/JB are both very good operating systems and feel much more fluid and closer to the level of "quality" someone who buys an iPhone might expect. The community here is also great which is another reason that I'm sticking with the droid.

Honestly, that's one of the things I like about android phones. With so many OEMs competing, you get slightly better phones every few months or so. Better processor, better screen, better camera, NFC, new design etc. So you get gradual progress over the year. With iPhone (at least starting with the 4s) you get slight progress once a year.
To paraphrase NWA, the SGS3's the motherf*cker that's built to last.
Don't buy lg
S3 is future proof

S3 is a great phone no doubt. But it should be easy to pick between it and the Note 2 because they are in different catagories. Do you want a phone that also doubles as a small tablet or just a phone? IMO the Note 2 is too big for someone that wants just a phone but I realize that is not always the case.
Other thing to consider is the sooner you upgrade the sooner you can upgrade next time. Also, the S3 is going to be cheaper on the upgrade since it has dropped in price while the Note 2 or any of the new phones are gonna cost more.
Not trying to sway either way just giving some things to consider.
New dock, and the headphone jack is on the bott..........oh damn never mind. In all seriousness I would just wait, you hit the nail on the head about all the different android phones that come out after the release of the newest thing. You will never have the latest android phone on contract unless you have money to burn.
The S3 is a fantastic phone and will hold me over for the time being and plus I bought the plan from bestbuy that gives me the most bang for my buck if I want to get something else before my two years is up. I would not recommend buying any lg phone even if it is a nexus device.
Do you plan on staying with Verizon and what type of plan do you have with them? Hell if you could spare the cash, find an s3 for sale locally and save that upgrade.

I have to stick with Verizon. My plan is through a company. I don't believe the Note 2 will ever come to Verizon.
I am not as petrified of LG as most of you, but I'm also not content with it either.
To those of you basically saying I am an Apple fanboy or iOS junkie, thats just simply false. I only bought the iPhone 4 because of how frustrated I was at Samsung with its Fascinate support and the speed at which Android released new firmwares that were incompatibile with almost every phone except the Nexus.
I cannot stand iOS, I just didn't feel like shelling out $600+ while under contract for a phone that saw less support (albeit with more features than the iPhone).
I am worried about spending my contract on the GS3 because Key Lime Pie is due out soon, and technically the S3 doesn't even have Jelly Bean yet.
I know a KLP rom will be out but I would prefer a KLP based rom.
If you're a tech enthusiast, I don't think you need us to talk you into it. Look at the stats, make up your own mind. Think for yourself.
Obviously you come into this forum you're going to get skewed results. Go into an iPhone forum and tell them you're thinking of switching to Android and see what their consensus is.
That being said, I have had zero problems with my SIII and I don't think I'll have any regrets about buying it until I'm eligible for a new phone.
The advancements that have been made in Android the past 1.5-2 years are incredible to say the least.
