Ive got 2 galaxy nexus', and 2 generic mhl adapters.
1 from was running build 39 (or something around there) with francos latest kernel. I try the MHL adapters and neither work. I flashed a JB rom and it still doesnt work.
All it does is send my phone into an endless boot loop.
So the second phone is brand new and bone stock. I plug in the adapter and things work great. I figure it must be some hardware issue. I proceed to flash AOKP (milestone 6 stock kernel). I go to plug in the adapters and neither work. It just sends me through a bootloop again.
Ive tried all different combinations of plugging in the HDMI cord, turning on this, switching that, plugging in the power cord, etc... Nothing works.
Is it AOKP? Id rather not waste the money buying the official adapter if it wont work either.
Any suggestions? I really need MHL but I didnt buy the galaxy nexus to run a stock rom.
BTW, both adapters work on my rezound and as I said, also worked on the new one fresh out the box.

Why not try a different ROM like CM and see if MHL works? If it works with other custom ROMs, you can then ask AKOP if they'll have MHL support in the future. If they won't then it's time to find another ROM.
Try a different kernel. Sometimes that makes all the difference in communicating through other interfaces (ie Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, MHL, etc). I use leankernel.
You have usb fast charge enabled?

No. Should I? I'll try when I'm home.

Wow I can't believe that that's all it was. Thanks. I've read multiple threads on mhl not working and never has your suggestion came up.
It does make me wonder why it worked on the stock rom though. Anyways, as long as it works I'm happy. Thanks again.
Woa woa, what was that? Now U say its working on JB AOKP?
I own an S2 and my AOKP ROM didnt support it, dont remember the kernel, now on Aberration ROM with Siyah kernel and works badly
What is that of fast charge setting?

So I am running XDA Senior Member twa_priv 's build of jellybean (20120824 ROM; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778010), and I found out that with ICS, people were able to use USB hosting with an OTG cable. I found a pretty decent case that has a full-sized male USB port, and I was wondering if anyone knows if USB hosting works with this ROM, and if I need any other software to run it? I am about to update to the 20120912 ROM if that makes any difference.
What I saw from ICS demos is that it is running Hashcode's 3.0 kernel, and I also am running 3.0.x, so I would think that this works, but I haven't had any success.

for me otg connecting things have always only worked sometimes. Like the kf would need to be fully charged but even then it only worked sometimes. Yes i have gotten it to work on jb though.

Hey there,
I'm not that n00b when it comes to Android (battery calibration is no secret to me, my phone is rooted, I can use CWM, etc/whatever) but I've never flashed any ROM or Kernel. But after buying an MHL cable and noticing that my phone (T999V) is not fast-charging even though the usb cable is connected to a power adapter, I felt the need to flash a custom kernel which supports fast-charging (don't wanna get another cable!).
After a bit of research, I decided to settle on Leankernel. BUT...then I learned that it wouldn't work with the stock, Touchwiz ROM (only CM10 or AOSP, and maybe AOKP). To make it worse, I learned that NFC on CM10 is broken, and that since Qualcomm's code is not open source, using CM10 will result in the CPU working at only about 60% of its full capacity...
Could anybody help me a bit on this confusing endeavor? I do have to advise that I won't be turning flash-crazy, flashing nightlies and etc, I want something fast and stable, that I'll be keeping for a while (got at least 55 apps installed...don't wanna re-install them several times a month...and not even every month).

so what is your question exactly? are you looking for a recommendation on what ROM you should run?
if that is the case, i would recommend infamous. and check out my thread here in Q and A about flashing ROMs...
good luck

Yes, I was looking for a recommendation. Sorry, I realized that the title of my thread was not the best but it was too late...! In the best of worlds, I basically want to flash a kernel that has USB fast-charge that can work on stock touchwiz. I would want to use Leankernel but I would have to flash AOSP on my phone. By the way, is there anything such as pure un-modded AOSP and where can I find it?
how can LGOG use usb otg... my device is rooted, can? e975
with a cable for it! :what:
It does not support OTG mode.
?
all fine with OTG lol
yeah, same here, both mhl and usb otg work just fine.
with a stock rom?
Much like skdubg, I'm running cm10.1 (0420) with the houcha kernel (3.4.41), and OTG/MHL has never worked.
I've got an e971 and with no microsd slot, I would love to see OTG on this phone. MHL would just be icing on the cake...

MHL is supposed to work in Chads CM10.1 at least, might be the Houcha kernel not supporting it.

MHL works with Houcha kernel... :fingers-crossed:
all good
Weird. I've tried a couple of times over the span of the last month or so and it didn't work. Could be my cable I guess, but I'll give it another go when I get home tonight.
EDIT:
MHL does work! I swear the last time I tried it did nothing. Still no OTG, though. The light on my flashdrive doesn't even light up for a second.

That does absolutely nothing.
"Calibrating the battery" not only is it useless its been debunked by Google
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443108
Any "battery calibration" methods or mods even apps are useless and do nothing at all.
To OP
Are you using the original cable?
I've read that some cables charge real slow for some reason while stock cable charges fast.

I agree with you about the stock cable as well.. Some cheaper after market ones don't play well with our phones. Also make sure you use the plug in charger and not a computer to charge your phone, it takes longer to charge via the usb port on your computer.

that happened to me but i learned that the transition effect from stock or a different custom Roms has effects on how long your phone goes back to normal as in charging fast or how it used to be
so wait and let the phone do its work am sure yu'll be fine after a while devices/machines needs break or need to adapt to a new different ROMS/FIRMWARE or like migrating from XP/VISTA to windows 7/8 yu just dont expect machines (windows, linux, MACs) and Devices(android, Windows Phone, Ubuntu, IOS, Mobile) to work flowless from an upgrade or a big change in OS
go out, get some from a party ........ todays world with computers/smartphone cant let you take a breathe always on the screen

yep and everything will be fine, if that doesnt work lay off the flashing and stick to one ROM or stock and so on the battery perfomance will be better than ever :victory: happy to help as always

Wiping the stats and the battery.bin files is as useless as using a task manager.
System is going to write it again as soon as the system boots lol.
Yeah break in the ROM. Charging might speed up. In know in TouchWiz ROMs it takes forever but on AOSP it shouldn't. Battery also improves after a few cycles.

Well this happened to me on me on another galaxy s3 as well as my own now but it seems that whenever i install a custom rom /w kernel my phone cant turn off and go to charge mode. all it does is when the phone is powered off and i plug a charger in it keeps vibrating and the phone screen flickers black and continues until i unplug it. i can charge when i normal mode thought.
You're talking about aosp roms, i have encountered the same issue and i just chalked it up to the fact that aosp is not made for our phone and so it doesn't have some features (another example is the 6099 texts for voicemails, which gets intercepted by touchwiz normally but not on aosp). On touchwiz roms you shouldn't encounter this

strange on ASOP and any Custom TW based rom when i turn off my phone to charge it just shows the splash screen constantly.....but when I'm on stock TW ND8 i get the battery charging animation and i get it with stock kernel and Ktoonsez kernel your welcome to try his Kernel for ASOP or TW to see if it fixes you problem and you can flash one of my Splash Screens (link in my signature) to see if it has any effect on your charging screen like it did on mine
i forgot to mention that im on miui v5 and i believe thats cm 10 based rom, the Ktoonsez kernel doesn't boot up on my phone

i forgot to mention make a backup and i always flash one of my splash screens with every rom that i try
mp phone does not make it o the splash screen, all it does is flicker black screen and vibrate. however when using a official galaxy charger it freezes on the splash screen. my default charger is not for the galaxy.
maybe i need to re partition nand with odin?

have you tired with the usb charger that came with your phone?
I brought this phone second hand, there's no charger with it. And I already spent enough on repairs to spend 30+$ on a new Oem charger. But when I charge on the official charger (borrowed from my friend it does a similar thing as what I said. But it freezes on the cm S3 logo.
I will get the charger eventually but just not now. Boy it charges fast

Im flashing 100% back to stock and trying again to see what.
1 issue was my charger, it only supplies 0.5 Amps. the galaxy s3 requires 1A so i swapped out the charger box but now all it does is flash the charging mode for 2 seconds before going to that cyanogen splash
Edit i flashed back to stock and what do you know charging works.
so the verdict is the kernel or the recovery...

I also noticed that with stock Rom and with custom splash screen it shows the battery charging animation when turned off yet with custom Roms AOSP/CM based it gets stuck on the splash screen so it might be something in the kernel base itself since i have used the same recovery on both stock and custom Roms
ok so custom recovery+stock 4.4 rom i can still get to charge mode. now to try different kernels and then different roms.

Are you 100% sure you're flashing software specifically built for your device? Maybe the downloads are somehow getting corrupted. I've had 2 S3's and have flashed many ROMs to each, and never seen anything like the problem you're experiencing with yours.
Are you using the same power brick with both cables? A bad brick can lead to elusuve charging problems.
