[mod] [req] to use fm radio without earphones - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hi,
Does anyone know of a mod or hacked APK fm radio file to use the radio without earphones?
Thank you

Don't think it's possible because the earphones act as an antenna for the FM radio.

But the earphone port could also be used as an antenna too.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Yep, I don't think it's possible, it needs to use another antenna, not the internal one, so it uses the headphones as the radio-fm antenna.

It is possible probably. I had seen such mod on other phones.
I too need it if made available.
Phone: XXLQ5 (Android 4.0.4)
Modem: XXLQ6
Kernel: Siyah 3.4.1
Launcher: Apex 1.2.4

if im not mistaken, i think i glanced at a radio app that can work without headphones while browsing the web before..
i wasnt that much interested so i didnt try it..

Awesome, I'll do some digging and see what I can find
Thank you

There's more than a few of them out there, the problem is reception is terrible without the headphones acting as an antenna. You'd be better off streaming than trying to mod an APK.

You can use spirit FM it works for me without earphones
But for a better reception put your finger on the jack

couldn't get it installed (e.g. reset permissions, etc.) .
if anybody else can get it going, holla.
P.S. got it from the EVO 4G forum.

I'll give it a go!
There is a problem parcing the package????
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
If is a parcing error you usually have to download on a computer and move it to your phone then install.
I don't think the g2 has been shown to have a FM radio chip inside. Has it? If not tune in (aka radiotime) will work for most major markets.

the phone does have a FM transmitter and receiver....
it's just a matter of getting it on
NAND unlock can't soon enough
APK's not valid, only contains MAINIFEST.MF
FM radio won't be accessible until someone implements it in a custom ROM, like Cyanogen did on the N1. perm root is needed to get the drivers working, etc. it'll happen at some point.

that's what i feared.
If you pulled it from the evo then it's not a 'stock' froyo radio. It's the fm tuner by htc, and it probably requires some sense frameworks to function. Not to mention it probably requires kernel changes.
Sorry to disappoint...
And if I'm not mistaken, isn't the CM fm app a modified version from the MIUI roms?
I'm not sure if it needs much from Sense. I read a week ago that a group got it working. I also read that it was gonna be part of cm6.1.
This was from the Nexus threads.

I'm so excited if it actually has a transmitter, I didn't know that

I have not read the kernel sources.
is the radio uncommented? If so, it will work.

Yes, yes it is.
Has anyone had anyluck with this since PermaRoot... I cannot get any data connection at work and I miss my Radio?
It will get figured out prob once CM 6.1 stable drops. It's definately the Kernel!!!! I have a nexus one and it's working thru bluetooth somehow. I can play thru the headphones or the speaker using the headphones as an antena...bluetooth must have to be on to connect the kernel to the app. Not sure but hope it helps!!!

I know for a fact it has a transmitter because I installed the Sense ROM on my G2 and the FM app worked.
Theres a difference between FM receiver and transmitter, transmitter is broadcasting pretty much sending music you have on your phone to say your cars FM radio
So I'm assuming you guys dont mean transmitter?
Would be soo awesome if it can transmit!!

[App] Pissed that VM didn't include FM radio in stock? Spirit FM Radio

Just a shoutout to those apk makers [Mike Reid] out there. Try Spirit FM Radio, an android market free download ($10 unlocker for best results). Packing it in my new rom. Nice.
Rob
Thanks insink71.
Saw your post long ago and didn't have anything to add at the time.
LOTS has changed and improved the last 4+ months, including support for stock, un-rooted devices.
I have one user now who has a problem with severe system slowdown when running my app in that mode (without SU). It may not happen when the earphone is not plugged in though.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else sees this problem. To get the same experience when rooted, deny SU to Spirit when it starts.
April 13 free version is here: http://www.mediafire.com/?g4d0at7b3nc3p1z
Thanks !
I can test this.

Will test...
Still perfect sound.
On new phone, HTC unlocked but not rooted; dead stock.
Must be not plugging proper earphones in.. I've heard if the chord is too short it doesn't pich up as the antenna it should be ::shrug::
Ya want me to test free version too? I got unlocked and it picks up more stations than my car radio.. no lie.

No further testing needed, thanks !
Versions prior to the UI update seem fine, and now he's set Theme to Dark and it looks like the problem may be gone. I'm still wondering how that might be a problem though.
I just got a VM WFS primarily because it has FM radio. However, even after downloading the HTC widget I could not get it to work?
Do all VirginMobile WFS have FM radio? I'd purchase the lite version on Google Play but I'm not sure if it would work...
I tried the above link for the free version of this app but the file is no longer there.
Any ideas/thoughts?
Thanks,
Nick

FM Radio in ICS

Hi,
I am not sure if this is too early to ask..but i dont see FM Radio in any ICS roms..i tried both LC and VA roms. I also tried installing spirit FM Radio from market but its not working in ICS.
Any idea if we can run fm radio in ICS?
btw many thanks to LC and VA for such awsome ICS roms..
+1
yeah, please someone add FM Radio to ICS ...
Miui has it.

The FM radio is having issue but I think you can use a radio from the market which might work
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
FM is on the to-do list, but there are other issues that take priority. Once all the camera bugs are out, and BT is fully functional you should see it appear in some ICS roms.

Please, someone bring FM Radio to ICS!!!
Bump to this thread
Ok, I'm trying to use Spirit FM, it opens fine, it scans alright, but I can't get any sound, nor from the headset or the speaker... can anyone help me?!?!

[SOLVED] FM Radio for ICS ROMs.

Hello all! I'm really quite pleased with the performance of ICS on our Desire Zs, though I really am quite missing with a feature I use of my phone, the FM Radio. I know there is Spirit FM, but I don't want to spend money. I tried extracting the FM Radio apks from 2.3.x ROMs, but it won't get installed. Any other solutions? Thank you!
As far as I know, there is no FM radio for ICS yet.
I got SpiritFM (bought it for gingerbread) and with andromadous does not work...

Fix for poor A2DP quality on 4.2.2

Just wanted to share this here. There is clear audible decrease in audio quality on 4.2.2 when listening over bluetooth (A2DP). All the higher tones were somehow garbled, like cymbals, or high vocals, etc. I could clearly notice the poor quality on 4.2.2 on my car stereo and also the improvement after installing the fix on my stock rooted GN 4.2.2 (GSM). I haven't tested this on custom ROMs.
Steps:
Root your phone, if not rooted
Make Nandroid backup (in worst case, you might not be able to boot)
Download bluetooth.default.so http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632#c158 Also attached to this message.
Download audio.a2dp.default.so http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632#c163 Also attached to this message.
In /system/lib/hw, rename bluetooth.default.so to bluetooth.default.so.bak (or whatever)
In /system/lib/hw, rename audio.a2dp.default.so to audio.a2dp.default.so.bak (or whatever)
Copy files to /system/lib/hw
Set permission on both files to be same as with the original files (644)
Restart phone
Edit: deleted

I asked information about the bluetooth files for A2DP streaming fix..
CM's Bluetooth quality (I mean A2DP streaming quality) is much better than on stock ROM.
I noticed the difference when I tested CM10.1 first Nightly of JB 4.2.2..
Does this help with call quality over standard Bluetooth

ok i'm sorry, but just to be clear, doing this on CM10.1 won't do a think correct?
I have been looking for something like this!!! Thank you! What exactly does it do? Does it increase the bitpool of the stream?
FYI, I just noticed that it changed my bluetooth device name to "Nexus 4" which can easily be changed back in the bluetooth settings...
Very, very good fix. thanks

Interested in this answer as well. Can anyone clarify please?
Is it possible/likely that in addition to fixing issues with quality, this will also resolve the high-speed playback problem? A few other people and myself have experienced BT audio streaming where it plays back way too fast in the car. So far there doesn't seem to be a qualified fix for it. I'm interested to try this and see what happens - just wanting to see if anyone knew for certain ahead of time.

Probably only works on stock. CM should have same/similar fix on some later build, check the Google bug thread at http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632.

Thanks so much for posting this OP!!! I have been lamenting my purchase of the N4 until this fix. The phone is now perfect! Well aside from no voice search for music like Siri (Google Voice search never pulls up my music).
I finally fixed my Bluetooth in call audio.I switched back to 4.1. This really sucks as I got used to 4.2.2 pull down toggles. I really hope Google gets this straightened out. This fix does help the Bluetooth audio streaming but my work truck and headset are not A2DP and when in call the volume seems to fade in and out. My Subaru has A2DP and made music easy to listen too but in call still seemed bad.

Any chance this fix works on non-Nexus hardware? Since moving to a JB phone from one running ICS I have lost two very useful facilities - Llama being able to pick up cell changes without the screen being on and good quality BT audio.
Not sure if this will help anyone else but found doing factory reset fixed most of my 4.2.2 Bluetooth issues. Ota gave me issues. When 4.2.2 Google factory image was released I fastboot flashed it did a factory reset immediately and all seems to work fine but id tags for songs.
