I love my Galaxy S3 very much, just hate the bugs/battery drain/bloatware. The specific bug I dislike is the cell standby. I was just wondering what would be the daily driver/go to rom/kernel combination for AT&T?
AOKP, ktoon kernel do some research first. And don't post questions in that thread you will flamed

Ok. I have been doing research, but just wondering what the general public was going towards... There are so many choices. I also read the OP of their thread and that is why I posted the question here
Diet ics with kt Sammy kernel is popular

Ok so from stock non rooted, I flashed CWM and did a nandroid backup. Do I have to root before I try out task and Ktoonsez rom/kernel or can I just flash the zip from sd card and then the gapps?

Greetings
UVKL1 Stock ROM.
Is it possible to flash an alternate kernel build for the T989 in ROM manager or CMR, or is more needed,ie Odin the kernel etc.
i'm coming from the Vibrant, flashed kernels, ROMs on that for 18 months but like the rooted stock I have now..just looking to try another kernel and maybe jkay mod, which I know involves build prop and framework changes
Thanks from an old noob

Show me a link. I've looked dude since Thursday and have not found a specific answer to my question, until now, and following the rules I posted a general question in the general section. It's not useless.
I'll have to read your posts and see what great info you have offered

You can apply the guts of this to get a better understanding. Good info:

With that, give this a read as well if you already haven't:

So at the moment there aren't any ICS kernels for the Epic 4g Touch? Also when he says dont wipe if your are on ICS what does he mean? Dont wipe cache? what? Thanks
The stickies in Dev section has this. And i do apologize. For some reason my comprehension level has reduced significantly lately. You asked where, not what. Here's a repository done by Rwilco:

Just read about how not to brick and about the emmc bug thread. Both stickies.
And read the combination that's feared to have started the bricks again.

**** all those kernels are a lot of confusion lol im scared to brick my phone now lol. Well im running the Paranoid 2.16, could you suggest me maybe a good kernel to flash for that rom? Thanks man all your help is much appreciated!
I don't remember is paranoid ICS? If so look for agat's 0.54 kernel it's his newest one. Its perfectly safe I've personally used it several times switching between GB, ICS and JB and never once had an issue.

El26 cwm. The easiest easy i have found to keep up is just reading the thread of the ROM. I mean that in all sincerity.
When in doubt, use el26.

Yeah sorry the 2.16 is JB. So that particular kernel works with JB? Sweet Thanks brotha
Edit, it say that those kernel can only be used with TW(touchwiz) right?

EL26 CWM? Is that a stock kernel, custom? Who make that. Ill search it too! Thanks
Is right at the top of the link. Not sure if you're running the cwm6 with what you have now.
There's also the direct boot el29.
And depending on what you're doing can change recommendations.
Going from jb to jb, jb to ics, ics to whatever.. Etc.
But i stand by el26 cwm5 by chris41g if im going to recommend something.
Personally, i use agats and rj's kuban kernels. But I'm not usually running aosp or aokp builds unless i just want to try for a few hours.

No it doesn't work with JB. Your phone will not boot if you ODIN EL26 kernel. If you are looking for custom kernels for OC, UV, Governors, etc, etc for JB there are none.

Someone said they have the AT&T Jellybeer rom running perfectly on our T889, I need to flash our modem though, correct? Does anyone have a zip link to one, I can't seem to find a recovery flashable one? I'm kind of excited now, since our forum seems so quiet.

No need to flash a modem. Clean install first, then just flash the rom and flash gapps. I'm currently running Jelly Beer. :good:
I have Jelly Thunder running fine on mine, I just stayed in recovery and flashed Persius kernel for our device after flashing the ROM, everything working here.

Wait, the modem is the same? So not used to having a phone with the same specs, Lol. I do have to flash a different kernel though?

Modem is not the same, but I am assuming the roms that doesn't include a modem will not replace the one you have now

Yea, I just asked someone in the Jellybeer thread if I had to worry about that, or flash a modem, or kernel. To be on the safe side.... if so, Mmm..... back on AOSP, is going to feel so good. Lol

I too am running jellybeer and it is great it will do for now till whitehawkx and cmenard relese a nice shiny new AOKP rom for us (fingers crossed) it has some AOKP features in it. All I have to say is read read read and when you are done and think you got it read again. All the info is in the the first few posts of a rom thread. just make sure that there is no modem mostr devs do not include a modem but I have notices a few that are starting to put one in so just watch if they do they usually say so because like I said it is not standard pratice.
I do have a question I have not flashed any touchwiz att roms only the unofficial cm10 and jellybeer. So on the TW roms do you have to flash o tmo kernel? The reason I ask is because on the s2 the main difference was the rotation. It was always messed up so the way to fix it was to use a tmo kernel or vice versa . Until someone made a .zip that fixed that and the device name in the build.prop so is that the same situation here.. It doesnt sound like it.
And one m ore question while I am here I posted a question in the q&A thread if anyone knows the proper lcd density. I dont like the way jellybeer is it has small fonts on the phone but everything in the market is way too big and it is driving me nutts.

That i dont know, all the note II has the same hardware, correct me if im wrong. so i dont know if flashing a tmo note II kernel with a Att TW rom will work. but CleanRom is using Persus, and i think Tmo N2 has Persus kernel, so maybe it will work
Here it is guys, i took the risks with my heart pounding every second when it was installing and booting
Using CleanRom by scrosler, here is the link
I flashed the rom, in aroma, i choosed ATT as the carrier and persus kernel, then the rest is pretty self explanatory
then i flashed Tmo modem and Tmo Persus Kernel
it booted and it is running, i powered it off and took out the battery to test if it will power back on again, and indeed it did
Clean rom works perfectly without a flaw.. no need to install any kernel, modem or anything .

So I installed an EL29 repack on my boss' phone and I was thinking about getting him up to date on GB08. Can I just 1-click over the top of what he has? Or do I need to unroot him first?

One clicks clear everything. It will do no harm to use that. Now if you were planning to flash a custom ROM in CWM, that would be different.
Are you flashing the entire ROM and modem? Jb kernels and modems will not work with ics or gb.
You'd have to read the threads associated with the builds to find that out though...
Seems like a lot of questions that have obvious answers from someone with your "experience"
Why not flash him to CM10?

So yesterday I went looking for a good TouchWiz rom, because I got bored of AOSP. I tried almost all of them until I came acrossAxis. I noticed it's dead now, for the most part. but it's honestly the best TW rom I've found. So instead of asking for fixes, since the Dev abandoned his project, I have an issue with switching the kernels.
Since it's a verizon Base, would I have to flash a kernel for verizon? Or could I flash any 4.1.x kernel in our tmobile section?
Stay with our kernels! Do not flash a Verizon one.

Well that's the weird thing, I flashed Ktoonez TW kernel, and it wouldn't boot. I can't find any useful information in the ROM thread pertaining to kernel flashing, so Idk who to ask or turn to. Doesn't help that this rom died WAY before it's time. =\
