Need help with LOS on ICS rom.... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I need some help and I was wondering if anyone here might have some ideas. I'm currently using Blend ICS FF18 v16.3. (fantastic ROM by the way). I'm currently experiencing a really annoying bug but I'm about 99% sure it's not ROM related because it first popped up on the last ROM I was using. I'm experiencing a bug where if I'm using the internet web surfing for more than a few minutes, I get the loss of signal circle and then the screen will flicker for a moment or two before the phone shuts off entirely. When I reboot the phone will now show 1-2% battery even if previously I was at a full charge. If I shut down again and plug in the charger for a few seconds and then reboot, the battery will be back to where it was before. Again this only happens when I'm using data such as browsing th web. Doesn't appear to occur during any other normal phone functions. Also, if I have the phone on the charger, the LOS bug doesn't seem to occur even if I'm using the internet.
Anyway, I've never had this issue before. It first popped up on the last ICS ROM I was using so I decided to try another ROM. I did a full wipe, and I also used Calks full format as well before flashing this ROM. Anyone come across this before or have any ideas? I know that LOS bug used to be notorious on this phone back in the day (I never suffered from it however) but I've never heard of a LOS and almost instant battery kill. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Normal Stability?

Hello all. Ever since I got my EVO, I've been experiencing random restarts, even before I was rooted. Right now, I am running CM7.1 and Tiamat from kernel manager, and I probably have to do about 8 restarts and 5 battery pulls a day, no matter how often I use the phone. For instance, today I woke up and had to do a battery pull because the screen would not turn on. The light was also still orange despite the battery being fully charged. I unplugged it at about 8 in the morning and by 10 with no use, I had to pull the battery again because the screen was frozen off once again. Once I got it back on, the battery was down to 80%. I tried using it and half the apps would force close immediately, so I restarted... You get the picture. Some roms have been better than others, and kernels don't seem to make any difference, and I figured it was about normal. Then, I installed what is supposed to be a really buggy CM7 on my touchpad, and have only had to restart it once in the past 2 days, which makes me question how stable my phone actually should be. Does it seem like I should take it in to sprint, or is my experience about normal?
I also never overclock because of my already poor battery life and have tried underclocking, but don't see any noticible difference
bump. should I post somewhere else?
Run an RUU but stay s-off for the moment and see if the problem persists. If your phone begins working properly, then you can flash a recovery and flash whatever rom you want - but don't restore your backup. I'd start totally fresh if RUUing fixes your problems, don't restore your apps and data, just download them from the Market as you need them.
If the RUU doesn't help and the problem continues, take it in to Sprint. It's up to you if you want to s-on before taking it in - I've never heard of anyone getting problems from Sprint with s-off but without root, but I think it's a general rule to do so.
I hope everything works out for you!

I have heard and seen on here many times that random reboots are caused by battery problems, and bad software installs. Try calibrating the battery, also use battery monitor widget to see what ur batt temps are. Then reinstall all your apps, do not restore them then see if that helps.

I'll try an RUU when I get enough time to do some thorough testing. I have reinstalled everything directly from the market multiple times since I've had the phone, and also have used a total of four batteries with no change in behavior. I Will try the RUU soon though. Thanks for the replies

[Q] Lock ups and battery drain

I am hoping there is an easy way to troubleshoot and fix this issue. Every couple of days I can try to turn my screen on and nothing happens. I have to pull the battery to get it to come back up. When it comes up I notice the battery has dropped anywhere from 20-30%. I have tried a couple of different rom's. I am on the EL13 modem. I have tried the El26 and EL29 modem's but I have the same issue. I am not using any oc apps. How can I troubleshoot this and try to correct it?
When in doubt, backup, wipe, and flash the same or a different ROM. It's a bit tedious, but that usually fixes the problem. What ROM are you on right now?
I have done that. Was on caulkin's 2.8 now on the latest blazer. I believe it is related to the LOS bug. I just happened to be on a phone call when it happened again. It dropped the call and the screen went black but the phone didn't restart. I had to pull the battery and when it came up I had lost about 20% of the battery. Trying a different modem now.
There was a similar problem on the OG Epic...maybe this thread will help?
If it's not just a display issue (and something is actually draining the battery), I assume you've tried BetterBatteryStats? It usually works wonders for finding the source of wakelock problems.
EDIT: Actually responded to the question!
I have been trying to monitor this and it seems to be a different issue than what I thought. I thought it was related to the LOS but it isn't. My screen won't come and I have to reboot the phone. I think the battery level is just being shown incorrectly. I don't know why the screen won't come on. It is like it is asleep and won't wake up. I have been searching thru the forums and trying to monitor my phone processes to see what might be causing this. I have not found a solution yet. I have tried 3 different rom's so far and it seems to happen at least once a day regardless of the rom. I have wiped the phone and installed fresh. I have tried different modem versions and that didn't help either. Not sure what to do at this point.
when in doubt take it to sprint and get it swapped out.
im having this issue as well actually and i have to conclude that it's a battery display issue; my phone will be over 50% charged then drop as low as 8% when i reboot. i thought it went away with my last blazer flash but it still happens.
If it helps at all, I was/am running the MIUI rom and the phone would lock up on a nearly full charge at the same location. It was every time I walked out of class in the morning, the phone would just go black screen. I'd hold down the power, reboot, and wouldn't have that problem anywhere else. Hope this helps us find an answer.

T989 Nexus Rom battery drainage issue plus more

so I flashed the Nexus Rom as well as the newly updated 3.8 version with the battery % feature flashed on my phone. The entire procedure was done as instructed (restore/clear 3+ times on everything as instructed) and I waited well over 10 minutes upon a reboot. So all is set and almost everything is working flawlessly.
There are few issues, however, which I'm curious to know if I'm the only one experiencing this:
1. Battery Drain: Fully Charged at 100%, unplugged the cable at 6AM this morning. The phone has been on its battery power for roughly 7.5 hours now handling a total of 5 minutes of calls, roughly 30 text messages, 5 minutes of non-wifi internet usage, email is being pushed, and flashed 3.8. My display is set slightly below the mid section and I have zero widgets on my main screen except for the search bar. A total of 6 icons on my menu and that's it (only 1 page). My battery is at 40% right now. It's only been a day since I've had this flash and I just flashed on the 3.8 just few minutes ago.
2. From the Status Bar pull down menu, Shutdown and Reboot, Recovery option would hang and freeze the phone until I pull out the battery. I can only enter the Recovery mode manually by holding both +/- volume, power on, and releasing both once the 'samsung' logo appears.
3. Mobile HotSpot freezes for good 1-2 minutes. I cannot use my phone as a Hotspot at the moment.
I absolutely love the Nexus Rom from the looks, performance, looks to looks, but few of the glitches I've mentioned are quite irritating. If I'm the only person experiencing this, I'd want to continue on the search to remedy this issue. Please share some experience, ideas, or resolution if you have any!
1.) That's about right for battery. It's a leak so the battery life is still wanting compared to gb. If you thinks that's bad though, you should have seen uclc4
2.) Known bug. Even though its ucld2 the shutdown bug is still present for a few, and especially manifests itself as soon as you run fix permissions. Although the shutdown hang is "reportedly fixed" on ucld2 i'm running seanscreamz sky ics 4.2D-8 with ucld2 base and i have the same problem as well.
Suggestions, either use quickboot from google play, or reflash following op instructions and DO NOT fix permissions
3.) Hotspot doesn't really work all that well, even with the ultracfg fix. I recommend the "WiFi Tether 3.1-beta12" app, i'm using this instead and it works well.

Thanks for the input. I wish the battery life was better. I'll let it sink in for a few days to see if it'll improve. If not, I'll just have to keep searching for a rom with a better battery life. I've tried Beastmod, Juggnaut and many others which have yet to last for over 12 hours.
I read that the hotspot issue was fixed and with the 3.8 update, I presumed it to be completely polished. The shutdown bug, I can live with - hoping there's an upcoming fix in the works.
This ROM is the sickest looking ROM I've tried so far. I wouldn't call it the smoothest due to it's intermittent force closures and freezes, but when things improve down the road, I think this one will stay on my phone for awhile!
I've been using this rom for about a week and the battery has been working great, better than any stock rom I've had. I'll unplug it in the morning around 745 and it'll last until I go to bed around 11.

You should try Mr X' s tweaked Telus stock ROM. This ROM has the best battery life among T989 ROMs period. It is Canadian but works great on T-mobile network. It also does not have much bloatwares as T mobiles stock one. Just Make sure you have wifi sharing, wifi sharing manager and social hub frozen through titanium backup.
As for wireless hotspot, the stock one from Telus works well.
I get about 16 hours use. It may vary for you but battery lasts longest with this ROM.

[Q] Sd-EXT problems lead to awful battery issues? help?

My phone had been having issues accepting the various modems I tried to install on a recent CM-10 upgrade. Prevbiously had used ROM Manager allmost exclusively until I heard that it was horrible and messes up a lot. Was having an omnipresent sd-ext issue. Also wiped battery stats as I had someweird charging issues where it the battery level when not turned on was not even close to the number tha appeared when it turned on.
I have been wiping every time I update etc as my battery had been acting weird. I had been having problems with the phone reading the [Sd-ext] like it wouldn't see it, but still could access it. So I reflashed to stock and rerooted, however the battery. I figured it was time.
well now the battery shows full, but if I untether from the usb link it wont start on its own. if i "jump start" it with USB power it will start but eventually die and flash to battery charge, or just die immediately when I remove the usb cable. I've been running cm-10 mods, but the issue seems to be worse now that I am rooted. I am thinking I'll reflash to stock and try installing CM 9 stable and see what happens, but if anyone knows a better plan I'm all ears.
FWIW when I am in download mode with the battery in it still works even when not plugged in.
Thanks in advance!

Random Shutdowns - E980

Hello, I have recently re-flashed to stock on my E980, I am running the phone on the AIO network as an unlocked device (although it would run fine if it were ATT locked as well).
I am looking for ideas to why I am having a problem. So it goes like this...
The phone randomly turns off. It seems to happen in my pocket, not on the desk. When I go to turn it back on, it is unresponsive unless I pull the battery or plug it into AC. If I plug it in before pulling the battery, it says not enough power to turn on. If I pull the Battery and turn it on the homescreen loads and I have plenty of battery in the upper corner (75% or so). When the homescreen loads, its fine for awhile, then back to step 1.
I am currently unrooted (just flashed back using LG flash tools) however the problem was first noted on a rooted stock ROM. I installed CM11 thinking that maybe it was something in the ROM that was initally causing this and a new ROM was in store for me... Did it on CM 11 too. Then I reflashed to Stock and I am still having this issue.
I have tried most everything and my thought is that the battery is either toast or not being recognized properly. I do not have immediate access to a different battery, but I think i can get my hands on one... If I replace it, I'm thinking it would take me an hour or so to replicate the problem and I still wouldn't be certain that was the culprit.
Anyone have any ideas, or things I could try out before trying to source a test battery, or does this not sound like a battery issue?
hey
i got the same problem
gonna have new battery soon and see if its from this
the sell man told me its could be the ROM
gonna try the modem of e980H
I've been having a similar problem as you, and actually had the device factory reset while in my pocket. Going to try and find a battery around my area, and hoping it fixes the problem. Have you noticed any heating issues as well before the reboot?
yea its getting so heated and drain the battery so fast
i think cos its trying to find single i had that problem with rezound too
i think there connection when its got heat -> drain the battey > and also kills the battery after few times
