I'm running CM6.1 RC2, and the past couple of days I have experienced excessive drain, mainly in the first 50%. I attached a picture of the issue. I went to spare parts battery history to see the network usage, since in the about phone battery usage cell standby was 84% of the battery usage, and under network usage there was just an entry for 0, using the most network. When I clicked on '0' the settings application crashed. Yesterday it dropped 35% in 2.5 hours, before it slowed down. It was ridiculous, never used to have this problem, and the battery is only a couple of weeks old so it has to be software. Today it is at 53% after 7.5 hours, which is pretty decent, but at around 70% I disabled 3g and background data to save some energy for a few hours. Is there any way of figuring out what is causing this, or should I reflash? Could it be a CM6.1 RC2 bug? Anyone else having this issue? Thanks in advance
BTW I have no idea why the dialer was so high in usage I only had like MAYBE 15 minutes total of voice calls in 2 hours. The 0 is what I'm concerned about.
Anyone? Bump? No one else is having the issue? Still happening to me on RC3.
I've been getting that problem too.
I used to have battery life of up to 4 days (Mostly standby), now I'm lucky if I get 1.5 (Same usage).
I went in to spare parts and it crashed for me too.
Battery drain here too since cm 6.1

Well '0' is he system's ID, 0 is root. In the graph the blue is bytes sent, red is bytes received. Have you checked other usage like CPU usage? That might be a better indicator of what's using your battery. Then from there you can start to narrow it down to a specific process or app. I'm using the latest nightly and don't have that issue, never have. I use a bit more battery than I think I should but nothing crazy.
Do you have wifi or bluetooth on? Those drain your battery like no other.
I havent used wifi at all today, unplugged at around 6:30, it's 3:45 now and I'm at 63%, but from around 9:50 to 11:45 and then from 12:20 to 2:20 I had airplane mode enabled since the time without a signal was at 70%, very low signal area. So it seems like for only 4 hours or maybe 5~ of non airplane mode time I should be at above 63%. I only had wifi on for a half an hour today. I'm considering going back to stock for a few days just to see the battery life comparison, and then nandroiding back to CM6.1. I always end up going back to AOSP-based roms in the end. I don't have a data plan on my phone at the moment, getting it today I'm pretty sure, so could all of the blue be from the phone continuously trying to access a website? But other people said they have the same issue and I'm assuming that they have data plans, so that can't be too much related. Hmm.
I also checked cpu usage and such like you suggested, there were a lot of things listed but all but two of them were too small to even have a bar. The two that did have a bar visible were minuscule to put it lightly, so that can't be an issue. Battery use in the about phone area always has cell standby at the top, normally between 40 and 80%. It would seem like there is way too much cell communication going on, moreso than normal. Cell standby stays at the top in even high signal areas, so it's not the signal levels. Kind of stumped here.
Well if the cell is in standby then it's linked to a tower and awaiting activity. Every now and then it 'checks in'. If it's doing that too often then that could seriously drain the battery. You're right though, I'd just switch back. Trouble shooting the exact issue wouldn't be worth the time. Maybe try flashing it again later, could have just been a corrupt download that didn't flash properly.
After conditioning my battery religiously (full to empty with every charge cycle) I am back up to about 15 to 16 hours from full battery to system shut down which is way better than the 10-12 hours I was getting when I first loaded RC2. CR_OTA ROM gave me up to 24-30 hours off of one charge with the exact CPU/2g/3g/wi-fi "routine" as I am using with RC2. Tracked battery usage with System Panel app and RC2 has a steady and even drain pattern ... an even diagonal line down the graph (100% to 0%). Cell standby uses a ridiculous 40% of the battery from full charge! On the stock ROM System Panel app shows plateaus throughout the day when the phone screen is off/sleeping where battery use is virtually non-existent. I'm going to load RC3 today and track the cell standby and battery usage. This time I am not going to use setCPU and just let the ROM run as the CM team designed it to be used and see if anything has changed. I tried this with RC2 and the battery still trended absolutely evenly from 100% to 0%. I can live with a 16 hour battery cycle for the CM ROM because it is very smooth and never has a glitch. The stock ROM is smooth as well but it has some buggy behaviors that I just cannot stand for and it does not run the latest GAPPS.
I've noticed i have exacly the same problem(was actually gonna post it when i found this thread)
Needless to say that on eclair my battery lasted ~48 hours constantly, not its drained in max 24...
The highest I have EVER gotten was 24 hours, and that was on a cm6.1 nightly build, pre RC2. I loaded cr_mod and experienced a HUGE drain. I had airplane mode on, just to test, and it dropped 7% in an hour, in AIRPLANE mode, with no screen on time. I went into spare parts and looked at the usage, and sure enough, "running" was at the top, with 99% of the time spent without sleeping. This has never happened before though, so I can probably attribute that to my modifications. I deleted a few apk's and de-odexed it before I flashed it, and I have a feeling something I did corrupted something else, so I'll flash plain old cr_mod and see where that leaves me. I should probably get back into the habit of full charge/drain every cycle. I used to do that until my battery started lasting longer than I was awake for, so I always had to plug it in at around 15 to 30%. I'll run some more "trials" and see what's going on.
Also, on an unrelated note, I love the stock rom, I always love the sense UI, but I hate HTC_IME compared to the froyo Latin_IME, is there any way at all I could port the froyo Latin_IME to the eclair stock rom?
Edit: also, I flashed dumfuq's OC kernel over cr_mod, could that have been the culprit to the battery drain?
Shouldn't be the culprit. It would drain quicker because of the clock speed but shouldn't be too bad.
Yes Latin_IME should be able to be used with sense. Just delete htc_ime and clicker.apk then install latin_ime and it's corresponding clicker.apk which you can get from various roms'. Btw, clicker is used to calibrate the keyboard so you don't have to install it.
NJAZ, what's the result on using CM6.1 without SetCPU? Big difference or not?

Actually, by process of elimination, the kernel was the issue. I remember hearing about there being a bug in the older dumfuq kernels with something idle being null, I really don't remember but it had something to do with sleeping. I flashed pure CR_mod and then 3.5 dumfuq and I experienced the same issue where it wouldn't sleep. I flashed 4.0, but I think it's too soon to determine whether or not the same issue with sleep is occurring.
I tried doing what you said with LatinIME.apk, I even imported the lib file from /system/lib on CM6.1, but the it was nowhere to be found in the system when I booted. It wasn't under keyboard settings, and HTC_IME was gone. I figured it was an incompatibility between froyo and eclair, since the stock sense rom is eclair and the LatinIME.apk is from a froyo ROM. Do I have to something more than just adb push the apk and lib file? I also tried installing it with a file manager, and no surprise, problem parsing the package. It's a system apk so I didnt expect it to be able to install via a file manager. Do I have to use adb install instead of adb push? I'm wondering if htc IME is so wired into the system that it won't work that way. What if I rename LatinIME.apk to htcime.apk or whatever the name of HTCime is and see if that works, because the system may be is treating that as the stock android keyboard, rather than a third party one, because it is labeled touch input in settings, just like LatinIME in aosp roms.
I'll experiment some more I guess
edit: Nevermind, 4.0 is draining as well, albeit less rapidly. Ah well. I guess I'll have to go back to CM6.1 if I want to do overclock. Shame, I love sense so much.
ANOTHER edit: nevermind, you were right, it isn't the kernel at all. It happens when I turn wifi off. I'm assuming that's because I don't have a data plan so it's continually retrying a server that it can't access. I don't know why it didn't do this on the stock HTC kernel, but I'm pretty sure it's the issue. If I turn wifi AND mobile data connection off, it stays at normal drain as well. Well, I'm at 11% and my battery app is estimating roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes remaining, so I don't know if that's GOOD, but I'll give it a good full charge tonight and run it tomorrow. I hopefully will have data activated tomorrow so I can really test it.
Hey guys new to the slide forum but not new to the site. I come from the G1 thread and we had the similar problem. How is your battery life on a 2.1 ROM? I have my phone rooted with a Sense ROM and it has 2.2 and i do see a bad battery drain as well. I remember froyo ROMs battery life may not be the greatest yet. I remember that was always a big problem over there and it looks like it still hurts here. Have you tried setcpu settings?
Maybe this information will help, i forgot to mention last time i posted that i'm not using a HTC device, i'm using Samsung Galaxy S, and there are more ppl with this problem on our forum aswell, so maybe someone can use this information correctly, i mean, it's either a program that's doing this or some strange freaky froyo process that not everybody has? or idk..
We'll need to get a log or something from one of the phones doing this and see if we can pinpoint the issue. Anyone experiencing this issue using compcache? Maybe it's doing some sort of background compression/decompression or swap is swapping too much while the phone is 'off'. Like I said, we'll need a log dump uploaded so we can sift through it.
As far as the latin_ime, try getting the one from a 2.1 vanilla rom. Check the slide rom bible for the 'senseless' roms like CM5 or something. That should do it.

Well my desire was to get the froyo latinIME onto eclair, since it's prediction engine was so much improved, but I'm getting used to HTC_IME so it doesn't matter.
As for the battery, for me at least, running the cmkernel from dumfuq, v4.0, I get BETTER battery life than the stock HTC kernel. Weird right? If I enable data I get tons of blue in spare parts, under network usage, for things like calendar and contacts. I'll have to assume that's because of the lack of data plan, my data plan doesn't become effective until december 9th. Otherwise, I have no excessive drain. It must be a cm6 issue, with cell polling. Cell standby was always up in the 70%+ range in battery usage in cm6, and on the stock rom it's around 27%. Wi-fi and display are highest, and I still get 20-25 hours.
I agree, to pinpoint the cause of the problem in cm6, someone needs a log to analyze, I'm not actually that smart with these things, nor am I running cm anymore, so can't really help there, but it'd be a good start.

Well I just recently saw this almost exact same issue (maybe not as extreme) on the samsung tablet running Cyanogen. They removed the phone, telephony, mms, and one more .apk to resolve it. This issue was caused by the lack of a use for those .apks but the system was still using them... a lot. It seemed similar but not exact, maybe some of us more tech savvy people can look into those and see if there's an issue.

Yeah that'd be cool. It must have something to do with that, since it's the cell radio sucking battery.

I flashed 6.1.0 stable, battery drain seems to be slightly less. I'm still at around 5 or 10% below where I was at this time on stock, with 9.5 hours off the charger, current level 57%. Although, I did use airplane mode for almost 2 hours, so really I'm like 10 or 20% below where I should be. I just can't figure it out, cell standby is at like 80% usage in this ROM. It's ridiculous, is it the polling intervals or something? How can it be so much less battery efficient than stock?
I flashed 6.1 RC2 with a low battery and had trouble with battery life. TMO's service was acting very strange for a couple of weeks and my cell standby was consuming a lot of juice. Flashed 6.1 RC3 with a well conditioned full battery. At first I used no setCPU just to see how things would go ... 11 hours from full battery to empty. Added setCPU to RC3 and got 27+ hours out of a full charge. Either TMO fixed it's towers or RC3 was better with cell standby because my network usage was not cranking overtime like it had been. Finally, I flashed 6.1 stable with setCPU and I average around 22 to 24 hours on one charge.
One observsation - when I first flashed RC2 I was really into my phone again. I was constantly tweaking it and flipping through options, testing apps, digging new Gapps, etc. ... bottom line I was just using my device waaaaay more than usual and I think that played a huge role in my (supposed) poor battery performance. All seems to be well with 6.1 stable.
Hi all, this is my first post and I'm a n00b to rooting, but don't let that stop you from reading on since I'm an advanced user and hope I can add some value here. Honestly, don't know what took me so long to do this. Posting to the Q&A forum since I can't yet post to the RC1 Dev forum.
My main goals for rooting were to get out from under Sprint's downgrade of my Swype beta (I should never have installed that OTA update, duh), upgrade to GB, and get better performance (battery especially).
I tried lots of the GB ROMs so far and experienced some of the reported problems like cycling reboots, slow/non-responsive market, CM skate anim cycling, etc. Some ROMs had swype, some didn't and most produced the licensing issue discussed in these forums when trying to install the latest beta.
Long story short, I've found a very stable and fast performing combo that I thought I'd share, and ask a question about. Here's what I did:
In recovery, Format_all, wipe data, system, cache, dalvik.
Install RC1, install the latest GB google apps and restart.
3G performance was piss poor, and I want wimax (more Geeees!), so I installed the toast wimax kernel (and antipasto font which I'm loving), cleared caches again, restarted and now 3G performance was faster than I think it has ever been. [EDIT: WiFi now an issue] and GPS are fast and stable. Best part, I was able to download and install the very latest Swype beta on this ROM.
A couple things that need addressing though:
'Cell standby' is a somewhat high percentage battery drain which I'll try to tackle through other reported methods (could be wimax searching/standby?). That said, battery life is still very good and way better than sprint/sense, even under heavy/constant use.
USB issues: Enable USB debugging and notify. Icon shows in notification bar. Disable debugging, but leave notify checked. Debugging icon still shows. Tied to this is the inability to select the mount/charge options, which others have recently reported in the RC1 Dev forum. So can't mount to PC. Any updates on how to resolve?
WiFi is now non-functional on my office AP.
WiMax control settings not showing up since they aren't there with this ROM/kernel combo for some reason. Any/all ideas welcome on this point too.
Slow market downloads, even though speedtest shows 527kbps down.
Thanks again everyone for this great community!
I haven't had any luck with my phone on my office AP (3COM) since I got this darn phone. For some odd reason it gets the wrong gateway and I have to set it up manually from the terminal if I want to use it after connecting. Check your gateway when you connect and see what you are getting.

WiMax isn't in RC1 yet. You can get an alpha build that Shinzul has up. Or wait until the Final release which should have WiMax and HDMI working.
Thanks, I'll check the gateway, and will check out Shinzul's alpha.
Had my first auto reboot today, and Sms is not working right (yes, less than 160 chars and not mms). Might have spoken too soon about this combo...

Keep in mind that the "Percentages" will always total a 100%. Something will always be big.
So to me I WANT TO See Cell Standby be high. That means nothing stupid in the OS is chewing it up. And Cell Standby isn't effected all that much except the Radio Firmware (and settings) !! So be careful what you wish for.
The problem for me is, on sense you can uncheck radio always on to remove that cell standby huge drain. On froyo you can use juice defender. But on cm7 you can do neither. So I need to turn it on and off manually. Very annoying, anybody have a solution?
If you install CM7 nightly build #6 (today's build), it now has support for WiMax and SMS splitting.
juice defender is failing me. and i reeeeeallly hate turning data on and off manually. any suggestions? i'm new to aosp so i'm a bit lost rigt now.
Just use the expanded notification bar and toggle data. You're not gonna be able to shut off the radio without airplane mode.

Unfortunately I think some permissions changed within Android 2.3 which CM7 uses and JuiceDefender just doesn't work on it yet. You're only other option is to flash CM6 (Android 2.2) if you must have JuiceDefender working in ASOP.

ya it looks like thats the case. sucks cause it is taking a really high toll on my battery. i hope somebody will put it into one of the next builds soon.
Continuing from my OP, I'm now off RC1 and onto Nightly #12 with WiMax. WiMax when on is a huge battery drain and I'll be doing some post-reading to figure out if someone has found a way to set a WiMax antenna polling frequency so that it can sleep for periods when not connected.
That said, the WiMax is nice and fast...so I only enable it with the notification bar widget when I need speed or talk/data simultaneously. I also use a new version of Setting Profiles (Full version) to toggle the Wimax on/off based on where I am -- note that this is a test version sent to me by the developers as I've been helping them test this feature. So I don't know if it's in the latest market release version, but if you are a paid owner of that app, just email them and ask for it (although the updated market release is likely not far off if it's not out already).
With the XDA-sponsored SetCPU on and no WiMax, I'm actually getting great standby times in the double-digit number of hours, which has been a first for me with this phone! I know there are some great posts out there about manual conditioning of the battery, which I'm eager to try, and other useful battery-related posts.
I am running CM7 RC1 and I have to say I love it. The first couple of days after flashing I was experiencing terrible battery life. I mean 5 hours or less. I finally flashed Savage-Zen kernel and used the "smartass: governor in CM settings. My battery was better, but Cell Standby was still draining all the battery. I wiped the dalvik cache again and it helped some. but I think the best thing I did was disable google backup settings. Keep in mind before I flashed the kernel and battery life was horrible I wasnt using it heavily, WiFi was off completely, I toggled mobile data on and off as needed, and didnt let anything except for weather autosync. I had maybe 10 applications as well. Once I flashed Savage-zen, used smartass, and disabled Backup data to google servers. MY battery lasts over 2 days with moderate usage with mobile data always on and gmail and weather auto synced.
As far as bug-wise, the only thing I have experienced so far is sometimes there is a slight delay when unlocking the phone and getting the lockscreen to show. Sometimes when the button is pressed to unlock, the bottom touch buttons light up, but the lockscreen takes like 5 seconds to appear.
One more thing is the GPS icon stays in the notification area once it has been turned on and back off.
All in all I can say now that I have amazing battery life, I love CM7 and will not use anything else besides CM7. I cannot wait until the stable release is out. GO CyanogenMod Team!
Hey guys just wanted to take some time to make a post about some things that I am getting use to. I have been an apple product owner for the past 5 years and this is my first non iphone. So far I enjoy my phone but there are some small quirks that I am having issues with. I will list and detail these issues.
1. Haptic feedback always finds a way to disable itself. I always have to go back into the settings and re apply the haptic feedback.
2. The battery is god-awful. I'm not rooted or undervolted. Just stock at&t phone and I'm lucky to get 6 hours off the charger. As in my phone comes off the charger at 9am and by 3pm it is already dead. Is this typical? I read that the facebook app affects the battery life, so I removed it.
This is one of my biggest complaints. My iphone 4S easily went from 9am-7 or 8 in the evening.
3. My home button is not solid. When I push it the feedback is not consistent. Sometimes it makes a light click, other times it feels normal. I feel like maybe something has gotten into the surrounding area around the home button. I take care of all my electronics so I doubt this is the issue, but I didn't want to discount the idea.
4. I have downloaded an advanced task killer, but are there any other tricks or tips you guys could let me in on? Or any apps that would be recommended? I would appreciate the feedback!
5. When receiving photos from iphone owners my phone displays pics as a video file? How can I just get normal mms's from iphones?
OH YEA...when is the GS3 going to get jellybean? My at&t phone still has ICS, and I keep checking for software updates every 24 hours and as of this evening I have not found any updates to the new OS.
1. where are you enabling haptic feedback?
2. as always, battery life depends on usage. screen on time? do you have a lot of apps that could use data? do you have both wifi and data enabled when you're not around wifi? try disabling any stock apps you don't use.
3. i don't have anything to say about this. try comparing to other s3s if you can. then you can figure out if your phone is a problem or it's all of them. i personally don't care nor try to feel the difference if there is one. i tend to use back until i exit the app, not use the home button.
4. task killers are not beneficial to you at all. they actually tend to kill the battery faster. uninstall yours and see how your battery life fares.
5. no one knows when official jelly bean will come. if you root and install a custom recovery and start flashing roms you can try jelly bean right now. but it won't be with touchwiz nor will it have everything working as you would find it in your stock rom.

Thanks for the quick reply. My on screen time is typically in the lower 4 hour range, I would post a screenshot but I am unable to since I am a junior member. I will not disable data as that is completely unacceptable on a smart phone. I didn't realize but my friend deleted my task killer a couple days ago. Using his GS3 I can tell a noticeable difference in home buttons-I wonder if at&t will replace my phone (within 22 days)? I guess I'm waiting for JB just like everyone else.
I am enabling haptic feedback via settings>sound>haptic feedback btw.
I've had my GS3 for about 4 days now and my battery life is awesome. I can go from about 8:00am to around 11pm before the battery icon even turns red.
apparently there's a gsiff_daemon bug or cell standby bug? i haven't personally experienced those, so i couldn't tell you much about them. turning off data is only acceptable if you're trying to avoid an overage, so i get where you're coming from. if your task killer is gone and you're still getting horrible battery life, something else may be the culprit.
a few suggestions: disabling unused stock apps (flipboard, those att apps if you don't use them). i don't know what you need synced but if you don't need your calendar or browser synced you should turn off sync for that. do you use the power saving option? if you don't need much processing power i'd turn that on. auto brightness may help too.
about the home button, if it irritates you too much att will likely replace it. maybe the new unit will have better battery life?

I think the biggest thing that seems to help battery life is keeping the power saving mode turned on all the time. Seems to make a HUGE difference with battery life (especially on stock), but doesn't really seem to affect functionality.
Yea I removed all those crappy widgets.
My phone is always in power saver mode! I'm going to try to get a new unit tomorrow. How does this work? When i had my iPhone I just scheduled an appt at the apple store and they would always switch my phone out whenever I had issues under 1 year.

If you bought at a local store, you should be able to call them up and ask for a replacement for a defective device.
It shouldn't cost you anything as you are within their 30 day return window.
Oh... and as for official JellyBean.... isn't the rumor so far saying potentially late Q3/early Q4? Apparently the International version of the S3 with the quad-core processor is expected to get Jellybean shortly after the "Samsung Mobile Unpacked" event taking place in Germany tomorrow. Haven't really seen anything concrete about when our S3's will see an official release... but seeing as T-Mobile also just recently had an official build leak for the S3, i wouldn't be surprised if the late Q3/Early Q4 speculation could be correct.
Root, install custom rom, install Ktoonsez kernel... Battery life will easily double. If you really want to get the most out of your battery, consider AOKP or CM10... Jelly Bean based, with 0 bloat and almost none of the background process the stock TW rom runs in the background.

4 hours screen time is a lot... even on my iPhone 4 and priors (I had them all) with that much screen time I wouldn't get more than 7-8 hours. Keep in mind you are going from a 3.5 screen to a 4.8... this screen will eat up battery at a faster rate.
With an average of 2 hour screen time I usually get 15-20 hours out of a full charge pending usage. Nothing special, rooted running triune, stock cpu settings.

That's right 3-4 hours of 720p quality is good

I haven't even began reading up on rooting. I probably wont root my phone unless I absolutely have to. I enjoy stock reliability. Also when I go into settings> accessibility, there is no option to enable haptic feedback.

I think after a bit of tweaking you will see better battery life. I get much better battery life than my sister does on her 4S. Also, disabling data won't hurt anything if you are not using the phone. I. Don't charge my phone overnight anymore.... I disable data while I'm sleeping and charge in the am while I'm getting ready for my day. With a few tweaks you should be able to make it through a full day, even with 4 hours screen time. Take some of the suggestions others have mentioned here.

1. happens to me as well when i turn powersaver on and then off again. (powersave disables haptic feedback, but it doesn't turn on again sometimes when i turn powersave back off) probably will be fixed in next update.
2. don't have this issue at all. how is your screen on time and what do you do on your phone? (ie: any specific apps/games you use?)
3. my home button is definitely solid.
4. do NOT download advanced task killer. it is not needed as android will kill off apps when it needs to. there's also a built in task killer if you'd like. just long press home button and click task manager.
5. happens to me as well but when i save the photo it changes back to jpq file.
6. jellybean hasn't been released yet for s3
Root your phone, install CWM and ktoonsez's sammy kernal. Stock rom by default has the performance governor enabled, which I believe has the phone either running at the lowest clock or the highest clock with no real middle. Rooting your phone and installing a custom rom will allow you to have access to more governors that will treat your battery much nicer as well as his custom kernal has added features and just performs faster as well as has better battery life.
There are all kinds of tutorials on the site and I'm sure even some youtube videos on the process. The only other thing I'll add is to READ READ READ on how to do the process, READ READ READ the thread for possible issues and READ READ READ some more for fixes to any issues that may arise.
The great thing about android is the ability to change almost everything about how your phone acts and operates. Once you start you'll end up like me that whenever you get a new phone, you'll already have downloaded root/custom rom/custom kernal on your home computer so that you're ready to get off of stock within 30minutes of being home.

1. I've noticed that when I enable battery save mode, it turns off haptic feedback, so it might be that.
2. Like others said it depends on what you do with your phone, but on average, I usually get 15-20+ hours on a charge with at least 3 hours screen time.
4. I wouldn't use task killers. But it's smart to do a little management of tasks yourself. For example, when you want to exit an application, don't just hit the home button, hit the back button until the app exits. From my experience, depending on the app, this will actually exit the app and not just leave it running in the background. Also, every once in a while, I pull up the multitasking screen by long pressing the home button, and I hit the "remove all" button to close any applications that I don't need running in the background.
Also, you may want to try installing Juice Defender. What that app does is turn off the data connection when the phone is in idle, and it turns it back on every 15 or 30 minutes (configurable) to synch, check email, etc. The phone connection is always on. It's actually made a noticeable improvement to my battery life. But this also depends on if it's ok with you that you only synch every 15 minutes. For my girlfriend, she likes to get 10 minute warnings when ebay auctions end, and with this installed she's missed some auctions. So it doesn't work for her.
Imo, the single best way to save battery is to get an app to automate toggling data off when you lock your phone. I've been using a Tasker profile to turn my data off after the phone has been locked for 10 minutes, and turns it back on when my screen unlocks. With data off, my phone drains maybe ~1.5%/hr.
Whatever you do though, you likely won't get more than 3-4hrs of screen time, considering the phone is 720p and 4.8".
Herp derp SGS3 Tapatalk 2
Just a departure from what I'm use to(my battery on my old 4S was substantially better)...if I didn't want my data on all the time I could have bought a dumb phone ya know? Anyways with data turned off battery drain was better ~5% hour.

K....I apologize if I missed it, but didn't see a stock jb thread....aside from the one from months ago that has a billion posts. I think a new one is not unreasonable.
Anyway... just curious about what others think.
After debloating it heavily....all T-Mobile and Samsung junk gone and a lot more....and stopping apps from auto starting with autostarts...I'm pretty happy!
GPS took about a minute to lock first time ...but now its quick. And accurate.
It is super smooth after a day of settling.
Going on 14 hours on battery with light to moderate use and at 59 percent left. Seems on par with most stuff I've ran.
I do miss some of the customization ...which will lead me to start flashing soon I'm sure. LOL
But overall....I'm impressed.
Anyone wanna share, ask questions or debate?

I had it working once on my T989D, it was heavily bloated, still seemed faster than usual leaked builds. Doesn't really matter now though because I can't flash anything based off this official tmob update because every ROM I've tried with it either bootloops or FC`s constantly. A real shame, I looked forward to this for so long, I assume it doesn't work because I have the koodo t989. Waiting on the Telus version to be released.

I have a T989D also and I've been able to get it to run perfectly fine for over 24 hours.
I have version 1 of Infamous S2 and I had to flash it, wipe cache and dalvik, reboot let settle for ten mins then flash the newest radio or it would keep dropping my koodo radio.
I think the key is wiping cache and dalvik after you flash it, I did also do a full internal wipe and installed from an sd card though.
I didn't see a huge increase in speed. Although it does feel a little smoother.
The increase in battery life has been huge for me though. On ICS I had a terrible average of about 6-8 hours depending on light to moderate use. On Jelly Bean I'm averaging 10-11 hours on more than moderate use.
Do you have a list of what you removed?
I also can't flash any recoveries except the old cwm so that's probably part of my problem.

That's pretty decent battery life and what I used to get when on the stock 4.0.4, but my battery life with this one has been worse. It drops below 50% after 4 hours off the charger with the same amount of use as before. I noticed in a developer thread a screenshot of someone getting great battery life as well. Did you root and debloat?
It seems like the OP was able to do that with some success. I really like the performance otherwise, much better improvement over 4.0.4. OP, are you rooted? Also, I searched the Play Store for autostarts and saw a few different options...would you mind sharing which developer's autostarts app you're using? I saw one that's paid and a couple that were free. Thanks!
EDIT: The other thing that's frustrating is when a new text comes through, it just says "New Message Arrived." I used to be able to change that in 4.0.4 to where the text would display in the notification area, but I can't find that on this version. Wondering if TouchWiz did away with it or it's because of my corporate password policy.

The 10-11 hours is even more amazing to me because I've been using my phone way more than usual (Simpsons Tapped Out is addicting)
I did do a full recharge/drain a couple times after upgrading, so maybe that may help you.
These are my steps in case you want to give it a try.
(On a full charge 100%)
I used odin to flash back to ICS stock unrooted
I then used kies to upgrade to JB
After the upgrade, I went into recovery and did a wipe/factory reset for good measure.
Unplugged phone and started setup (Disabled some tmobile bloat)
Used the phone until it ran out of charge.
Charged the phone completely .
Unplugged and drained it completely again.
K....not gonna quote a bunch of stuff....but in response to a few things.
This was my experience, but trying to use the tlle4 Telus radio left me frozen at bootup mostly....I got in a couple times, but it wouldn't let me save my apn settings and I had no signal. Flashed the new jb radio and manually had to enter apn settings, which saved this time...and I was good. Tlle4 has better signal where I live, but the new one works OK.
What did I freeze? Well, mostly anything with T-Mobile or Samsung in its name. Now everything is working fine, so soon I will uninstall and delete them completely.
I use the app specifically called Autostarts. It is a paid app....but gold to me. I stop any app I am familiar with and don't want starting by itself at startup or other events. Especially maps!! Otherwise it seems to run all the time. I disable it in autostarts anywhere I find it. Then it only runs when I start it.
Think I got most things that were directed to me covered.
I also use advanced task killer free. I do not ever autokill apps. I use it as an easy way to kill things after I run them that don't close properly by themselves. Like maps and Canada's the weather network app.
Last night when I plugged in my charger I was at 24 hours and 3 hours screen time with 22 percent remaining. So stock seems no better or worse than most other jb roms I've used.

The new message thing was bothering me too. After seeing your post I looked more closely at the settings. Open Messaging and then open the settings. Under notification settings check preview message. Now the text will display in the notification area like before.
The JB this phone got is crap. Doesn't the same phone for att Skyrocket get ripple lock screen and multi window? Also we can NOT download the voice files for offline voice recognition.
The Skyrocket port of JB for this phone can do all of that.

I'm using the Embryo rom now. I did try installing the new stock JB rom but it just can't compared to some of the custom roms. I haven't try the roms by ptmr3, Rushing, and Jamison. I'll probably wait for a few more updates before trying the tmobile JB roms. I missing using Wifi-calling sometimes but the Embryo is just a very good rom.
So today I've installed latest MaximusHD rom for HTC One X, and everything is super fine, except for one thing - when I'm trying to connect to my Skydrive (using official app) while on Wi-Fi I just can't do it. After awhile it just says that I should check if I have a connection. The problem does not occur when I switch to Data Transmission. Other apps usually are able to connect but it seems slower than when using Data Transmision.
I have installed the WiFi update, and when using Google Play, or browsing the internet it seems to work just fine... I also switched from Superuser to SuperSU, but the problem occured before that so I don't think it had anything to do with that (noob question - which should I use? Superuser was there by default, but is ist actually better, or there is no big difference?)
Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app?

I tried, it's still very slow.
Other odd thing is that when I turn on Data Transmission it's always showing the "H" symbol, even in the places where it previously showed "3G" or "3.5G", now it never switches. What does it mean? The speed seems fine though.
This happened to me too. And it's happening to YouTube and google play.
Could it be because I didn't do the OTA update?
In that case i have a little question: if I update the OTA do I/will it wipe all data?

Well I did the OTA update almost right away (after intalling few apps), and I saw the problem after that, so I don't think it has anything to do with that although it's suppose to fix WiFi. Oh and it didn't wipe my data.
EDIT:
Well I can't post in MaximusHD thread yet so I'll ask here, does everyone using this rom experience such a tremendous drop in battery life when using Data Transmission? On WiFi it's normal, but when using cellular it drains 5-10% in 10 minutes... That seems absurd.
bump. Seriously? Anyone knows if this problem with power drain when using cellular data transmission is also present in other clean Sense 5 Roms? Or is there a way to fix that, or maybe there is an update underway?
I just switched ROMs but was getting a full days use out of a charge. WiFi at work and home all day. So I never really used hspda.

Yes! It does this for me too. It seems to drain at something like 1% per minute for me when I have mobile data on. Wifi also drains it quickly, but not as fast. I posted about this in the Maximus thread (some other issues too) but nobody has replied. Good to know it's not just me.

Yep, hopefully there is going to be some kind of fix, I really wouldn't like to go through the whole configuration, app instalation, etc. process again.
Ok, so another thing is - some icons in one of the folders on my home screen disapear. It's always in the same folder, and only in this one, others seem to be unaffected.

Issues I'm having:
1. Crazy battery drain when I enable wifi, but particularly bad when I enable mobile data. I have a Tasker profile where if I enable wifi and connect to my home network, autosync and GPS are enabled for 2 minutes then disable themselves. Last night my phone was on 61%, I enabled wifi, and immediately it dropped to 56%.
2. When I go to bed at night I turn my phone off. If I put it on charge at night it gets to a certain point and the phone switches itself on! One night last week it switched itself on at about 89%, so I switched it off again, and about ten minutes later it switched itself on again!
3. I use Google Calendar, not the HTC one. I seem to be unable to disable the HTC calendar - the only option is to "freeze" it in my backup app.
Aside from these things, I really like the rom, but these three issues are making me wonder if I should try something like ARHD and see if the same things are present there.

Well I don't know how it is with the phone turning itself on, because I'm not turning it off to begin with.
The thing with calendar - it seems to me it was also like that when using official Sense 4+, so I don't know if it's fixable.
I think I'm going to switch to ViperX Sense 5 Rom, people seem to say good things about battery life in this one.

Yes, I know some people think the idea of switching a phone off is somehow weird, but I turn mine off at night. As an experiment I just switched my phone off here in work, plugged it in to charge it (it was on about 93% - charged overnight and it has lost 7% since I switched it on when I got up for work at 5.30) and lo and behold it powered itself on when it reached 100%. I don't want this to happen.
The calendar on Sense 4 could be disabled - I know this as I had it disabled! I prefer the Google calendar, so I disabled the HTC one. On this ROM you can only hide it, or backup apps allow it to be frozen, which is what I've had to resort to.

Well then since nobody seems to know what to do in our instance, and I have no idea if there is some kind of update for MaximusHD underway, we propably will have to switch the Roms. I usually had the mobile Data Transmission turned on all the time when outside my apartment and while it did drain the battery more than WiFi it still was enough for 8+ hours of being on with medium usage (sometimes with battery saver option ticked when I needed to be outside for a longer period of time). Now the phone would be dead after few hours.
EDIT:
Today I switched for ViperX Rom, and all of the issues I wrote about seem to be gone, Skydrive app no longer has any issues with connecting. Although I'll say something more about batery life in 2-3 days when I'll actually have a chance to see how it works. In general I can say that this ROM is a lot more customizable, and has lots of tweaks (greeat ones) I haven't seen in Maximus, but still I'll wait for a few days with my final opinion.
Ok so after using it for a few days I can tell that the ROM itself is just better in sheer terms of funcionality. First thing I noticed is that I can now put more than 16 shortcuts into Folders, the icon grid in app panel is 5x6 so now I have 3 pages to scroll instead of 7. WiFi seems work more stable but I can't say that it worked bad in MaximusHD. When it comes to battery drain while using Data Transmission - it's still there, but after a few cycles of charging it seems to get better bit by bit, if it still changes I'll let You know. ROM comes with lots of additional tools, and allows heavy customization, and reclocking the processor for better battery life. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't know what about the phone turning itself on, because I don't switch it off. In terms of the callendar I also use gogle one and I just turned of sync options in the one provided by htc. Also I'm not sure if while installing the rom You are able to choose not to install the HTC callendar.

I've gone back to my old Orange-branded 4.1.1 / Sense 4+ build. Battery life has gone through the roof, HTC calendar is disabled, everything works, no problems. As for the phone powering itself on, well, something odd happened there...
When I decided to go back to the old build I restored my Nandroid backup and reflashed my old boot.img, taking the phone back to its old setup, and all seemed well, but that night I switched it off at bedtime (still find it weird that so many people think I'm freakishly odd for daring to switch my phone off from time to time) and lo and behold, some time later, it switched itself on again! The next morning I did some searching about removing the Clockworkmod recovery, followed the instructions, and also relocked my bootloader for good measure, and guess what? Since then it hasn't powered itself on while charging. So all I can gather from this is it was either Clockworkmod or having an unlocked bootloader that caused my phone to power itself on, because as soon as these two things were changed it has behaved normally.
So anyway, I'm going to stay on this build until Orange get around to releasing 4.2, or my contract expires in April, whichever comes first. Probably the latter, as according to a post I've seen from Orange themselves they reckon the update will appear 3-6 MONTHS after the manufacturer releases it.

Heh I'm alson in Orange (poland), and we got info that the update will show up sometime mid-december. I just got tired of waiting for them to update that's why I ended up with custom roms.
Maybe it was CM fault? I'm using TWRP, tonight I'll turn it off and see if it powers back itself during the night and let you know.
