Scariest thing that has happened to your gnex - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

What's the scariest thing that has happened to your Galaxy Nexus?
For me it would be when I fell asleep with mx player running videos on repeat for 9 hours. When I woke up it was so hot I could have fried an egg on it . I put it on top of an AC vent to cool off.
Inb4 noobs bricking their phones

When I turned it off for the night at 85% and went to turn it on in the morning and it was dead.
Luckily hasn't done it since.

It literally just slipped out of my hands and onto the kitchen floor. Thankfully nothing happened. Battery popped out, i simply popped it back in. All good! Im trying to preserve mine as i have a white one with a perfect screen! No weird dark splotches or color shifting.

I've done that before, it's terrifying lol. In the first few days when I hadn't gotten my case or screen protector yet and had a naked Gnex.....it fell screen down onto the floor. I braced myself for the worse as I picked it up....but luckily there were no cracks

I saw a picture of Sarah Palin on mine.

You're lucky it didn't burn into the screen!

This has happened to me too!!! On 3 occasions on different roms!! Glad I am not the only one... Hasn't happened in awhile though!:fingers-crossed:

Getting water and soap in while applying a wet screen protector, it started to reboot as soon as the enter-pin screen appeared. I put it in a bag of rice for 1 day, after that it returned to normal.

Once in a party some pig left an iDevice on my Gnex, right on top of it! Poor GNex spent about three hours like that

When it turned off during a phone call and became unresponsive. Pulling and reinserting the battery multiple times did nothing. However, oddly enough after like 5 minutes it returned to normal

Scratched it... i wanted to DIE

When i flashed it the first time, i lost the imei, but xda saved me....

I fell asleep using it while it was charging, and I woke up to the sight of my USB cable not working, my phone refusing to charge with any other cable, and having to send it to Samsung for repair.

Had it sitting on my lap in my car. Got out of the car forgetting it was in my lap. It fell screen down in the parking lot and slip 2 feet on the screen.
Only a couple minor scratches though.

Is this even possible or are you joking? I've done that tons of times in an Otterbox defender clipped to my pillow. it never got that hot.
But I was using screen filter app at 20% with lowest display brightness BC its not good for your circadian rhythm to sleep by bright lights.
Scariest thing I've done was got out of the car and have the phone hit the pavement. luckily a 3 way nail file smoothed and buffed everything out perfectly!

The scariest thing that happened to my GNex is when I screwed up the 4.1 update and the phone got stuck on the boot screen.
The boot animation was distorted, EVEN WHEN I UNPLUGGED MY BATTERY. The screen was literally on when the battery is out. Then everything started to flash for about 5 seconds before it finally turned itself off.

Ruined phone?

y phone fell into a pail with water it was in there about 5 to 10 seconds. i pulled the battery out and used a blow dryer and put the battery back in and the flash came on. is that a good sign? dont know what else to do. did i screw things up by trying to turn it on without letting it dry out all night? i had this happen once before but never saw the flash come on as soon as the battery was put back in. im hoping for some good news because im not paying assurion 100 bucks, ill just upgrade but i still love my epic. thanks guys
I would've left the phone off for a day or so. I dropped mine in the sink once and after a day of waiting and blow drying I powered it up and the soft buttons were blinking and not responding but it eventually cleared itself up. It was weird.

You'd be surprised how durable these phones are. I witnessed my friend drop his in a 10 foot swimming pool. It was in there for atleast 15-20 seconds and it works perfect still. We need someone in the community to conduct water testing along with .... "will it blend?"

Confusious is right.. Remove battery and any protective shell, fill a mayo jar or large McDonalds cup or whatever you have that is larger than your phone with dry rice, then stick your phone in then fill the rest of the way with rice. Let set for like 24 hrs. The rice will absorb ALL the moisture. And then you should be golden.
FYI... You should never turn on an electric devise before it is completely dried out first. And never use hot air on an electronic device. I just assumed those were common sense.
My 1.5 year old stuck my epic in the aquarium it was completely under for at least 1 full min. Before I saw it. And the rice trick worked for mine. Left it in the rice for like 2 days though for good measure.
Hope this helps others in the future.

Put your phone inside rice leave it there for a couple hours the rice helps to absorb the excess liquid it worked for me couple times good luck with your phone

I used silica gel cat litter on my daughter's phone after it spent a few seconds in a warm bubble bath.
Three days later, it worked a ok. Silica gel is that dessicant inside little white bags labelled 'DO NOT EAT'.
Same idea as rice. We had some of the silica gel cat litter on hand, unused of course, so it seemed like a good option.

Dropped my phone in the shower.

Phone was fully submerged in water for about a second. Quickly pulled battery and dried it off. surprisingly the water damage sticker is still white. Turned it back on after about 10 minutes. i was experiencing issues with the speakers while talking and playing music from the phone. rebooted a few times and hopped in my car to try the phone out on the Bluetooth and everything was fine. i even plugged the auxiliary cord into the phone and music playing normally. its been about 5 hours and everything seems to be working again. has anyone ever experienced something similar to this??

that is a seriously stupid idea, just pointing that out. it was inevitable that you dropped it.
secondly your speakers and mic need to dry out properly, out it in a bowl of white rice and leave it for a few days.
if you don't let the speakers dry out it can tear the membrane that is made out of a paper fibre material.

This is the best advice for any device dropped in water. I tell this to people at work that get their personal phones wet and I always get a befuddled reaction. The truth is that it absolutely works 99% of the time. The dry rice sucks the moisture right out.

put your phone under your rice box or basin, need to stay at least an hour or await the day..rice is type of desiccant..it can help to suck moisture.
Spray isopropyl alcohol, to push the water out since it displaces water...throw in [email protected] 175* for 45 min....profit! Worked for me!

sorry bro you were wrong its working now just don't have charging capability and a little problem reading the sd card. you really should know what your talking about before you give someone such extreme diagnosis. and for the charging problem i bet leaving it in the rice overnight will clear it right up.
So your screen had wavy lines, but now it works and your sd card slot is having issues along with no charging capability? Between both of those, I would wonder how much longer my phone would last.

Does your Galaxy Nexus smell weird?

I have rooted and unlocked my phone many times and I am very familiar with the process. After I updated my phone to 4.1.2 I noticed that if I remove my battery and smell near that area I can smell burnt plastic. Is my phone dying? Does your phone smell like that?

Unroot and see if the smell persists...
Has your phone been in the sun for an extended period of time? Wikipedia says 105 degrees average in summer where you live, so I imagine a day on a dashboard might cause this...
It is stock and I don't leave my phone on the dashboard. I keep it in my pocket. Temperature is 50-60 F around this time of the year.

pretty frign good.
Case or not the phone has to be tough because the case couldn't protect it completely from a fall like that.
watch the drop tests on YouTube. Dude drops it from pretty high, without cases on all sorts of surfaces with no significant damage to the phone whatsoever.
The problem is that some people rave, while others revile. My wife dropped hers and it shattered.
I've been highly impressed with the build quality of this phone. I used to have an Otterbox on it but it made it too bulky and honestly the phone looks so good I want to show it off haha. I've dropped it onto my concrete shop floor multiple times and not a scratch or anything. There is a few places where the chrome paint on the trim has chipped off but very minor. Both my Evo 3D and this phone have held up extremely well.

He did have it in a case but still that is pretty frign good.
But what I read here goes with my discussion on another site that you can drop 5+ of the same phone and get different results each time.
I just had my friend drop theirs while sitting on the toilet. No higher than 3 feet and the screen cracked across the top. Nothing below the crack responded. Crazy how physics works. They did not have a case on theirs though.
edit: they do have the at&t version though, clearly inferior.
