I think we need to compile all ICS and JB information in two threads here in XDA, I have read around in the forum but find it difficult to understad things. First I put several questions below to see if it can be answered so it clarifies the situation for the future of DHD.
1. A 3.0 kernel compatible to DHD seems to be available thanx to XDA comunity and not to HTC, is it done from Linux vanilla source then added 3rd party modules? Or is it all from an HTC built binary. If there are parts taken from HTC, which model has it been taken from? I know that Incredible S has almost exact hardware as DHD (like the camera) and it has an official ICS now.
2. What does it mean that we now have the 3.0 kernel really? Is it possible to use the ICS sense 4.0 with small adjustments?
3. How about JB? Is there any possibility to use the same kernel for JB? If so then does it mean that future JB releases of HTC could be ported to DHD?
Virtuos team have kernel 3.0 for htc primo.

Ok, thanx, does it mean that they have access to the source code and bult it themselves or just they have the binary? Building it yourself give you much more options, having the binary on the other hand would make it more difficult to improve, say if you would want to use it with JB.
does this mean we can have sense 4 with fully working cam and camcorder?

Yes. Just check Twitter @chrisch1974 - the guy is Virtuous Team developer, he posted screeshots of working camcorder (!) on Sense 4.0 rom on DHD. Tadah!
I've asked Chrisch (on Twitter) if the kernel he developed would be usefull for AOSP and AOKP roms be he haven't replied me yet.
Anyway – looking forward to show HTC middle finger (I'll record it on Sense 4.0 rom ).

Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone had a Sense 4.0 ROM for the WFS in dev yet.
Sense 4 is ICS only
We have no working hw acceleration in any dev ics rom yet. so to say: miles and miles away.

resizing is one major problem , but don't forget the Kernel ! that's the important part which is probably harsh , btw , Sense 3.5 Runnymede could have been very good if ported to WFS or the evo 3d , but still kernel stuff , actually i guess Samsung's galaxy mini roms could be ported easily since it has a similar display size + an ARMv6 processor which will have a similar kernel i guess ...

Kernel 3.0 is still in development, but if we can get the hwa working, this would be a big step and so we could port sense 4.0, I personally dont like it. But thats my opinion. Samsung Galaxy Mini, thanks for the infos, didn't know that. going to see which great rom they have.
Not going to happen from me unless HTC release a mdpi phone with sense 4 on it.

I am wondering what's the hold back of having sense 4a with a working camera? To my understanding sense is a shell added to android, if we have ICS drivers for a camera (or do we, perhaps its just a patch or workaround) then why cant those drivers work on sense 4a?
I love ICS, really like the ones with working camera such as CM9 or meXdroid Fried Icecream 2 but hate the fact there is a lacking touch to focus, panorama, etc features. Actually I would use those as a daily driver if they even had the bloody MIUI camera.
Yes its possible, the problem with Sense 4.0 is that, it need a proper framework compatible driver, which is not yet available.
Wait, it seems HTC has released ICS update (Sense 3.6) for desire HD in italy (read somewhre in a forum). so we have the drivers in it.
Once devs acquire it and test it, we'll have fully functional Sense 4.0A rom,
Am also waiting for that..
Hope it by end of May.

Does anyone know when the official ota for DHD is supposed to begin?
As Cyanogen posted on twitter
" The Nexus One, along with the other first generation Snapdragon devices (devices with the QSD8x50, MSM7x25, MSM7x27 and MSM7x27T SoCs), will not be supported beyond the CM 7.x (Gingerbread) branch. "
Sad news. But I'm not suprised, I've had my Desire for almost 2,5 year now. It's just getting old. There are great alternatives however, I am so glad there are still some skilled developers trying to port all this stuff, and with succes

I used Sandvold's ICS ROM as a daily. Works great! I'm struggling to think of a bug that pisses me off.... erm.... video rec is choppy or it just crashes, as does panorama BUT they do work... tbh i dont care about that but i wanted to say something

i'm using sandvold's ics 0.16 as well, on stock hboot and it works smooth as gb roms.
Today bworks & dk_zero-cool released cm10 jellybean roms. bworks' rom look good gonna try it.
Nikez ICS is also runs very smoothly

This can't be news. Didn't Cyanogen say when they first started on the CM9 that older devices would not be officially supported?
HI Guyz,
I am not a dev. So please pardon me if i am wrong. When i visited a mobile shop to get a new mobile for my cousin,
1. I saw HTC Explorer , which in configuration is wayyyyyyy below desire. But i was awestruck with the smoothness of it. The appdrawer, swiping between homescreens, widgets etc. but i cannot have the same smoothness even with the official sense 1.9 ? Why is that ?
2. I saw HTC Desire C which is based on 600 MHz Cortex-A5. WTF. ? It has ICS. I can sense that ICS will be very laggy in the handset but my question is how this weak chipset has fully functional ICS and Sense 4.0 ? I still feel HTC Desire is very powerful and capable enough to run ICS. !!
Thanks,
Karthik
I'm running nikez ICS and it is very smooth - does not have sense though.

You could try to download desire c rom, change all "desire c" string to "desire" and see if it works...
lol, it's not so simple to port a rom, it's a different architecture of chip, different screen resolution, different drivers... etc etc...
Like if you run a game on a quadcore with full resolution and the same on a pentium4 with 640x480.. do you understand a little?
I think that the progress in ICS and JB is fantastitc, so appreciate the dev's work and don't pretend too much.

Thanks for your reply and please dont be obnoxious when you reply to someone. Its not that I doubt the devs. What i am trying to say is when a 600 mhz powered device can run ICS, why not ours (out of the box. just with minor tweaks) like transition from Froyo to GB. ?? I was totally upset to see ICS in Desire C rather than mine. I hope we will have fully functional ics/jb not without our excellent devs. !!

Ok, the fact is also that desire c has htc's drivers, our desire hwa was written from scratch by evervolv team, so it isn't an official released properly functioning.
It's correlated with the problem that cyanogenmod don't support it for cm9.
There are a few different ICS roms that work really well and smoothly for the Desire. BCM is based on CM9 but nikez rom and sandvolds rom are not. The only problem I have encountered is video playback issues which can be solved my using mx or rockplayer. Otherwise imo the desire ICS roms are quicker than GB. The devs have done a great job porting these to desire.

Wait... I believe that who tried mildwild 4.3 can say that is quicker, faster (maybe not smoother) rom for desire. With the option of choosing where to put apk and data of each app (if in internal or ext) I can open frequently used app in a second, camera Miui app is perfect and it has no bugs. The only benefits that I saw in ICS was running heavy games with good frame rate (the same game is laggy in GB) and using 4.0+ apps. But so far I found ics and jb rom slower (repeat I mean opening apps and overall quickness). Btw the job by evervolv team and nikez is fantastic and I guess that JB development will go furrher and better than ics

Since Shaky stop developing his Sense 4.0 ROM, this side of the HTC desire development has stopped. The ROM, though in alpha, was working brilliantly well. Everything was smooth, and there were many thing working. Why did shaky stop? That build has so much potential. I really hope that he is still developing his rom in secret, so that he makes a "surprise stable full version" release.

I didn't even notice that Shaky deleted his XDA account. I'm a bit worried about him. What happened?
So, if shaky stopped developing, does that mean that the Desire will never get a full version of the 4.0 Sense, even if it can run it very smoothly?
Begging the devs won't help...
I want this port so much that I'm willing to take Linux classes and to port it myself.
Sooo, is any developer kind and willing enough to continue shaky's work? I know this sounds like begging, but many Desire users really want the 4.0 Sense.
To prevent noobish spamming, like shaky had, devs could just release a full version when it's done.
Please XDA Devs, make our dreams come true.

I have looked all over the desire forum and found not 1 sense 3.6 with ICS rom for our device. I think people are interested but i need to know facts do you want this rom ????
If i get enough people saying yes ill start a thread and port official ICS with sense 3.6 from desire s to our device.
i normally only dev for my own desire but when its stable ill release to xda user's. This will give us stable ICS but keeping the sense as we all love it to some degree. Let me know your thoughts on this by posting below or answering the poll thanks everyone.

cool ill get to work on it but obviously i wont release or open a thread untill its in alpha stage and it boots up and works call's/sms data ect. but this can be worked on more easy because sense 4 is very heavy on the cpu but sense 3.6 is not so it will be alot smoother than the sense 4 roms.

From the performance point of view it's a bad idea. ICS is not stable enough.Contribution to 3.x kernel or features fixes, camera fixes would bring much more.
