[Q] Flashable Bootanimation.

Are there any flashable boot animations for the DHD?
and in particular, the droid x boot?
if there isn't could someone please tell me how to change mine to this? with links to the files? or a link to a flashable zip?

You don't need to flash them... just use Root Explorer and drop "bootanimation.zip" in \data\local
For the actual animations just search the Themes section in the Desire HD forum. You can also look in the Themes sections for original Desire as most of them should work too. I'm sure someone will have ported the Droid X one, if not try looking in the Themes sections of the Droid X forum... you get the idea

I have the files i want.
the bootanimation.zip and android_audio.zip
but how do I move them from my sd or computer into that folder ? I have the folder open in root explorer right now.

Extract the zip file for the boot sound as it's the .mp3 you need to use. Bootanim stays as .zip
Reply back know how you get on / if you need any help etc.
Oh, and be sure to press the "Mount R/W" when in the correct folder in Root Explorer. Wont let you change anything otherwise

wow I feel stupid. I was using the temp files from the top of the list in my sdcard XD thank you.
oh wait it didn't work xD I have bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 in data/ local and it doesn't work. i've rebooted twice since they've been there. what else am I doing wrong ?

Try the two files I have attached and see if they work. You will need to extract the zip for the start sound as it wouldn't let me attach the mp3. Also, you will have to rename the other zip from black_bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip. I have loads of them so need to keep the file names different.

Still no luck. even with your files, in data/local with r/w it just won't work? is it something to do with me being on the stock rom, kernel and radio?

I've never had a poke around inside a stock ROM for DHD but I expect the files still go in the same place, so it must be a permissions thing as I doubt it would be radio or kernal related.
Silly question I should have maybe asked earlier... you have a rooted phone right? If not none of this will work!
As for a being on a Mac, shouldn't make a difference as you can transfer all the stuff to /data/local/ on your phone... only need a computer to put the files on your SD card if you didn't download them with your phone.

haha yes my phone is definitely rooted, I'm pretty sure I have radio and engineering S-OFF, I had SHIP, now I have ENG, I would really like to know what the problem is though.
would it be possible to fix the permissions ? should I use rom manager to fix them ? or do it manually in root explorer?
If it is a permission problem, rom manager's fix permissions option did not solve the problem.
It would be so much easier just having a flashable zip xD

I must admit, I'm stumped with this! I bet it's something really easy that we're both overlooking!

it has to be something obvious. I would flash a new rom, but then I need to flash a new radio, because last time I ran leedroid, and android revolution HD, my microphone wouldn't work so I had to restore my backup.
having to do all that just for a boot animation and sound would be such a pain.
Well I'm going to sleep, most likely, and hopefully someone will have worked something out by the time i get back or wake up.

Or another option is that your current rom just does not read bootanimation from /data/local/. Try it with custom rom, or put it to /system/.. I do not remember which folder. But look for bootanimation.zip.

I found bootanimation, not .zip but i can't make the system file r/w only r/o

after much trial and error, i found it at last....
@P1xelVandal in case you had not installed any custom ROM then the original bootanimation.zip can be found in the following location:
/system/customize/resource
Rename the original one to bootanimation_bak.zip before replacing in case any error occurs.
And, of course, you have to mount the file system in R/W mode for the changes to take place.. worked fine for me... piece of cake now.

[Q] Simple, silly, noob question.

Okay, after all this time I forgot about the cool little notification sound that the EVO comes with. CM7 doesn't have it so I would like to know where I can get it or just what file to take it from on a Sense Rom, thanks my friends.

You can download a sense rom, extract the apk/sound file, then place it in CM7; or if you have a sense rom, flash to it, use root explorer / es file explorer, then locate, copy it to the sd card, then paste it in the correct location.
Look in> /system/media then look in audio, notifications, or ui

I think jacoballen22 is asking if anyone knows the location of the sound file or perhaps even the file name. I could be wrong though....

Even after transferring everything to the right spot, it isn't an .ogg file and even when I change the extension it still will not show up.

And using a root file explorer corrupts it? Because the simple copy and past should work; as its not tied into sense as its only an mp3 file.

I see, the part that I do not understand is why are all the CM7 ringers and such .ogg files? and it will not recognize the notification maybe unless I used a trimmer.

I use mp3s for notifications on MIUI, even though MIUI uses ogg files. But MIUI has a different way of choosing ringtones & notifications, which makes it easier.
Where exactly are you moving the file? And are you rebooting afterwards? If the media scanner doesn't run then it may not notice the file.
Edit:
You can also use Zedge to set your notification tones. You may have to move it to sdcard/zedge/notifications to be able to choose it from the app. I'm sure that there are other apps that allow you to choose custom mp3s for notifications.

[Q] Possible to change S-pen pull out sound?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if there was a way to change the S-pen pull out noise to a custom tone? I have the Tmo version and there is only 3 that I can choose from. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to replace the stock sounds with new files of the same names. Unsure of their exact location as I've not looked into it, but it'd stand to reason that they'd be in /system/media/ui somewhere.
Did occur to me that it'd be fun to replace them with, say, lightsaber noises. Or Steve Jobs saying "Who wants a stylus?"

I see the file under the UI folder but it seems I need to assume root, it only has read permissions. I will give it a go when theres a root for tmobile. Thanks for the reply and leading me in the right direction though. Btw you read my mind, I wanted to replace it with a lightsaber lol

Just a quick update. After rooting I just used rom toolbox lite, used the roit browser to insert my custom tone, renamed it exactly to thw original and it works. Thanks onslaught for the tips

Found some lightsaber power-up & power-down sounds if anyone is after them, sourced them from: http://soundfxcenter.com/sound-effects/star-wars/20 and converted to .ogg and reduced the volume so they aren't too loud.
- Go to: /system/media/audio/ui in Root Explorer (or similar app)
- [Optional] Rename Pen_att_noti1.ogg & Pen_det_noti1.ogg to Pen_att_noti1.bak & Pen_det_noti1.bak
- Extract S-Pen_Lightsaber_Sounds.zip [attached below] and copy both files to /system/media/audio/ui
- Go to System Settings -> S Pen -> Pen/attach/detach and set to Sound1
- Enjoy!
I have attached the original Pen_att_noti1.ogg & Pen_det_noti1.ogg in case you overwrote/deleted the originals instead of renaming.

This is awesome. Worked for me. Now Is there anything we can do tobincrease the volume of the spen lightsaber noise. Its very understated which is ok but I'd like it to be a little more noticeable.

I've looked into UI sound folder. there're many ui sounds and customisable.

I found some other sound files that are louder than the ones provided on this thread. I have included the original files I made, along with the re-named ones to drop directly into the "ui" folder. Enjoy!

I'm afraid not. You need root access to the system files to change it.

I love the Light Saber sounds, but I included a shotgun sound to you to enjoy. This will replace notification sound #2.
This came from Jellybomb. So give credit to joshbeach.
Just be sure to follow the instructions given by dceightfive
- Go to: /system/media/audio/ui in Root Explorer (or similar app)

The Pen att notii files on audio UI are read only files and i can not change them. Also, even though i renamed the downloaded files, i can not past or move them the required folder. Any suggestions?

Couple of questions for you...
1. Are you rooted?
2. Are you using Root Explorer or ES File Explorer?
If your using ES, you need to be sure it has root access and has the "system" folder "mounted" for writing (both in settings of ES). Also, it's not the files you downloaded that you rename, it's the original files in the /system/media/audio/ui folder you rename to .bak, then copy and paste the new ones in.

Thank you for your reply. I have my phone rooted. I tried ES. i can not highlight the Mount file system option in the root settings. Also when i click Root explorer, i get the msg that this feature can not run on my phone. I also tried the other app Explorer. When i try to change the name of the original file. i get the msg this is a read only file. So how do i proceed.thank you

I love this phone.
But, I can't turn the camera shutter sound off.
I have seen the following solutions:
Edit build.prop and set the camera sound value to =0
or
Use Camera Zoom Fx app and delete the camera_click.ogg file
I would prefer to do the former.
I guess I need to root my phone to do this - or is there an easier way?
I have never rooted a phone and I don't have a need for a rooted phone other than to be able to r/w the build.prop file.
Can I root it, edit the build.prop file, and then unroot it and have the build.prop file keep my edits?
Does anyone have any straightforward steps on how to root and then unroot this phone?

I believe that you can unroot directly from the superuser app that is sideloaded via this rooting method. Once unrooted, the changes that you made should remain. If they don't for some reason, all you have to do is keep root and just deny apps that request superuser access.

You would need to root it to edit the build.prop, as it is located in system. That other way to unroot might work to keep it but if you use lgnpst it would replace all the system files, giving you your stock build.prop again. If you wanted to delete the ogg file you would still need to root for that. At least on my phone the camera_click.ogg file is located it /system/media/audio/ui directory. You could just move it somewhere else as a backup. But....being rooted is awesome

You had to root the phone first right or no.?

This solution didn't work for me. I did all of it, and upon resetting permissions, it makes a new file" build.prop.bak and I still get shutter sound. Using es file explorer

Yes. Even deleting the camera shutter sound and editing the build.prop result in this. I just did it myself

Found the solution to be rebooting after the entire process. I forgot I hadn't done it, and decided to just reboot for the hell of it. No shutter sound

I think (once rooted) is safest to just overwrite the click sound(s) with a silent one. Then it plays but you can't hear it. works for me and any camera proggy that defaults to the system will use it too.

On the LGoG it's in: system > media > audio > ui > camera_click.ogg
It may be in a different location on other devices.
You have to be rooted in order to write over system files, but I just renamed the original to camera_click.ogg.bak and then copied the silent version in with the same original name "camera_click.ogg" less the quotes and making sure it's an ogg file too, so there is no system playback error.

I assume it's the LGoG you are attempting this with?
Mine is the first generation (incase there are other generations.)
You'll also want to verify it was overwritten. I'd try playing the sound once you do... just to be sure it's the write file.
Otherwise, you might search your device for the sound and see if it's listed elsewhere.
In case the program you are using does not have "system" write capability, I might suggest ES File Explorer.
Either way, you will have to access the settings to turn on the ability to "write" to root in order to "overwrite the file".
Additionally (if the file is changing back - or so it would seem)... be sure to check the permissions it has before you overwrite it and when you do (assuming success).. make sure to set the "new" files permissions to the same as what the old file had. Else, the OS might overwrite the "new" file with a tared (backed up) version... knowing that it's been screwed with.
It's kind of a form of protection from corruption (computer sees potentially bad file and replaces it with good file.)

Phantom camera_click.ogg
I beg your forgiveness for my ignorance, but I've never done much tweaking to file systems after a rooting... but my gf has the Sprint Optimus G and can't find the camera_click.ogg file at all using Astro File Explorer. Does anyone know any other location it may be at? As a computer technician, I'm embarrassed at my lack of know-how around the Droid OS!

Read the op then go to page 11 and you see there are 2 fields that need to be changed.
After you do that and reboot as it states, you will have sound when you have your volume on and no camera sound when you turn the volume down to vibrate or silent. At least that is how it is for me. I prefer it that way.

Per Murphy's law, after she and I both looked for around 30 min before giving up and me posting on the forums, I downloaded the ES file explorer and found both files within seconds.
Got it with the silent camera while the phone is on silent/vibrate. Now for a little tweaking to silence it with the volume up.

There is a thread in theme section with the stock keyboard... with auto correct, , and long opress for secondary symbol. OR type arsaw and look for his thread..am driving right now, I'll supply the link later if you don't find it

Don't know what ROM you are on... your knowledge of pushing apps to /system (ie., via adb), etc., so I'm attaching the stock samsung keyboard (plain grey) with auto-correct functionality. You need to be rooted at least. Copy the attached apk to your phone... then, using your favorite root file manager (like Root Explorer, etc) copy to /system folder first... fix permissions to rw.r..r.. then, MOVE to /system/app. It will ask if you want to replace the current "SamsungIME.apk", answer yes. You should be good to go.

Yes I am rooted and thanks for helping im coming from a z10 lol. perfect I will do that right away. im on stock rom touch wiz called I think 4.1.2

Don't know what ROM you are on... your knowledge of pushing apps to /system (ie., via adb), etc., so I'm attaching the stock samsung keyboard (plain grey) with auto-correct functionality. You need to be rooted at least. Copy the attached apk to your phone... then, using your favorite root file manager (like Root Explorer, etc) copy to /system folder first... fix permissions to rw.r..r.. then, MOVE to /system/app. It will ask if you want to replace the current "SamsungIME.apk", answer yes. You should be good to go.

ok im a noob tho new to all this. So I downloaded your link. Zip file right? Do I put the whole zip on my phone storage? then flash? I downloaded room file manager and cant find /system apps. Sorry for these probably stupid questions. When I open the zip there are are a few folders.

Those are folders/files in the flashable zip. Let's try the simpliest approach first.
1. Download "Root Explorer (File Manager) from the PlayStore, and install
2. From my post #6 above, save the attached file (SamsungIME.apk)... on your phone's sdcard
3. Open Root Explorer, and navigate to the folder on your phone (sdcard) where you put the SamsungIME.apk... long press it, then select "Copy"
4. now while still within Root Explorer, navigate to /system folder, and hit "Paste" (make sure you mount as R/W.. it's the button at the top. If you are mounted as Read Only, you'll get an error message "You cannot past here because the file system is read only". Just hit the "Mount R/W" toggle at the top of screen.
5. Now, "SamsungIME.apk" is in your /system folder. You need to fix permissions. Long press "SamsungIME.apk" and select "Permissions". There are boxes with green check marks. toggle the boxes so that you only have green check marks in: Owner: R W ; Group: R ; Others: R. Hit "OK"
6. Now, long press "SamsungIME.apk" file again, and select "Move"
7. Navigate to /system/app (you should already be in /system, so just tap the "app" folder
8. Make sure you are still mounted as "R/W", if so, tap the "Paste" key at bottom. this will put "SamsungIME.apk" in the /system/app folder
9. if you did all this correctly, you should be good to go...

Okay I tried finall got it in the right system folder like u explained I attach a picture. Its still not working. Do I just need to reboot or flash? I use goo manager.
Hope I didnt do anything wrong while moving it to app system

It appears you are not understanding some of the android basics...and that can be extremely dangerous... especially since you are rooted. From you screenshot, you show zip files in your /system folder. Per my previous post, I stated to copy "SamsungIME.apk" to /system... fix permissions... then MOVE to /system/app. Your screenshot shows zip files in your /system folder (i.e., "SamsungIME.zip"). My attachment is the apk file itself. So apparently when you downloaded, it zipped it for compression purposes. YOU NEED THE APK. I suspect it is inside that zip file.. so you'll need to know how to unzip that zip.. and get the ".apk" The APKs goes into the /system/app folder (Not /system). Try again, and get the SamsungIME.apk out of that zip... copy that apk to /system.. fix permissions... then move (not copy) to /system/app (it's a sub folder within /system). If this didn't work, you have done something wrong.

Damn I had the feeling some was wrong. So should I get that out of the system folder? How do I do that ? I cant delete or move them. Does it harm if I leave them there? Ya im trying that now how yiu explained the apk I get it . Thanks alot tho for ur patients

I use Root Explorer... if you long press the file, you get the option to delete file. Delete the ".zip" files in /system folder. Your screenshot looks like ES File Explorer (or something similar). You should be able to "select" that zip file, then delete. Go back to my Post#6 and download the APK file (SamsumgIME.apk)... do not zip it... you should be able to download file as apk. Then follow my previous instructions. Again, get the APK file (not .zip) to /system folder.... then fix permissions... then MOVE (don't copy or you will leave a copy of the apk behind in /system) to /system/app folder. System apk files belong in the app subfolder of system (/system/app). When you go to paste the apk in /system/app, you will be asked to replace existing file... replace it. Try again... report back.

Ok thanks will do that tomorow . I use es explorer yes. When I try to delete it says file cannot be deleted. Cant see any apk file I use windows 8 maybe tahts why?
