No matter which ROM i choose wether its 2.3 based or 4.0 based, Calks or Phantom. Even CM9, Team Dirt. I always get crap battery life. ANDROID OS and ANDROID SYSTEM hog the battery!!! Why is this. The only thing that has not changed will i have been flashing all these roms is the Modem. I am currrently running FF18 Modem. Could this be the culprit? Please help guys!
The android os usage in ICS is normal. What do you consider bad battery life?
So many things affect battery life. Low signal will wipe out a battery in no time, synching multiple accounts (email, facebook is notoriously bad...) and software you may have installed. How is the battery drain when the phone is sleeping? Since there really isn't much we can do about battery while you're actually using the phone, the next step is to improve on sleep efficiency and this will help the battery life overall.
Try installing BetterBatteryStats. There is a thread here on XDA you can search for and download and install this app. The best way to use it is to let the phone sleep on battery without using it for a minimum of 2-3 hours, overnight is best. Then view the kernel and partial wakelocks to see if something isn't allowing the phone to sleep properly.
battery battery life?
Couldn't you also use multiple profiles in an OC app to undervolt and underclock the phone when it sleeps? (screen off profile set to 800MHz and screen on 1200MHz) Just a suggestion, hope this helps.
I have to charge my phone twice a day because I am on it all the time. My ave battery life 11hr 47min. Running Badass Battery Monitor.
Turn off auto sync for your Google account on your phone and manually sync it from time to time. Before I did this android was at the top of the list in the battery. Now screen time dominates everything else in usage.

Yes I did this too, it helps a lot
Yes, synching too often is a killer.
Don't forget about the phone radio too: wifi/bluetooth/gps/data/4G all can have a negative impact if left running.
Someone recently posted that at his workplace, he had zero signal and he could barely make it through the day. He discovered turning data off entirely in that scenario saved battery in a huge way.

Bad battery to me is loosing 60% over night. That's running CM9, android is and system were the dominant battery hogs when that happened. Please help. I've downloaded betterbatterystats.apk but I don't know how to use it. Please help.

I guess you should try downloading any battery calibration app from the market and also try battery control.... I hope it would help you..... Or the usual juice defender

And yes, Im really confused right now. Currently Im on ICS stock rom (6.1.E.1.19), unlocked & rooted, got init.d, supercharger, scripts, ect.
But the battery life doesn't change much for me (14hrs on average use). And most of all, the overheat happens everytime & really fast. I used SetCPU on demand mode to underclock it but didn't solve the problem.
That's why Im considering flashing another custom clean rom that already has all the tweaks, include smartass v3, since I couldn't figure out the deodex thingy. But since there's nothing in the development box, can anyone introduce me some clean ICS roms from other xperia devices that can work on Ion? Jellybean would be preferred.
Thanks
There is only stock rom. I haven't had any hear issues on ICS. I don't use setcpu at all. And that is good battery life

Get juice defender pro set it to customized then set apps to jot use internet that you don't use "disabled " ones you want all the time like Pandora set to enabled screen on and ones you only want if you open them set to enabled.

turning off wifi and 4G when you are not using them can like tipple battery life lol.
Can anyone tell me where to find ROMs for the ion?

I really like how my settings are. Sync settings are minimal...but its been off the charger for 3.5 hours with moderate use and its at 76%....im looking for how to undervolt (not underclock) or any battery saving tweaks.
Also...im on synergy rom and cant change the setting so there is no LTE..why? And quck question...is there a key strock to get to recovery...new here

Turn off the Location access, and dim the screen as much as you like... I just got 36hrs with 3hr screen time with only those changes... To undervolt, you need to be running a custom kernel, and use a tool like SetCPU, Voltage Control, or KTweaker if the kernel is KT... To get into recovery, use the advanced power menu, or while it's off, Vol Up + Home + Power... Check your APN settings for LTE...
I've found that undervolting is a pain, and doesn't save me anymore battery than stock voltages... Mess around with it and decide...

I'm sure it has some sort of battery use, it's always looking for motion... Whether turning it off or not will help a noticeable amount, I'm really not sure, it's a TouchWiz feature, I haven't ran a TouchWiz ROM the entire life of my phone...
Any TouchWiz junkies out there who have noticed a difference turning it off?
find and eliminate wake locks. disable bloat apps. run a good light rom with battery saving kernal. turn off what you dont need. thats all really. if your battery is dying fast find whats keeping your phonw awake and do something about it. I can go to bed with phone at 100 and wake up 8 hours later at 99. also go to bed 50 and wake up 49 etc. you should expect the same. on 3g I get at least 5 hours of screen if im heavily using all day. but battery life is up to you. you want to be minimalist like me you can expect similar results.

You can dial *#0011# then hit Menu > Wi-Fi Settings and make sure the WiFi sleep policy is enabled. Every time your phone sleeps, WiFi is disabled and you have to reconnect, but it does help on battery life.

I dont think it does. uses battery to turn on and off the wifi. just leave it on. ny rom is wicked v8 and intergalactic 2.5 kernal. weird combo I guess. but it just works for now
I squeezed 7 hours display (18+ hours standby) on a single charge with auto brightness on and LTE and sync on all the time. Routinely I get 5+. I would say, get a good rom n kernel combination (only way to know is to try out).
Are you using Google+ and/or facebook?

.. ever since I updated to JB 4.2.2 (I even did _FULL_ wipe/reset) it seems like my batter goes so quickly its not even funny(( I get roughly about ~4h on battery / ~1h of screen time, I'm using STOCK ROM w/ STOCK launcher w/ latest leankernel (BestBalance profile).
i installed BBS and I'm unable to see anything that's doing something that it shouldn't, at this point I dont know what else to do(
please help!

try installing wakelock detector i would recommend possibly changing kernel i would ecomend franco's kernel for battery saving or AK SKL243 that sounds like a bad app somewhere
Like kevtrysmoddin stated, try flashing a new kernel but I wouldn't limit it to franco's as a kernels performance varies phone to phone. You mentioned you were running a stock ROM, but which one?

I'm not looking for super advanced features. I'm using stock Rom and stock launcher without any mods other then lean kernel.

May also want to take a look at the governor that you are using with your kernel. For me, ondemand gives best performance (battery wise) with lean kernel.
I checked it's interactive/deadline.

I'm on AOSPA 3.16 with franco.Kernal 376 and with average use (gaming, social, a lot of music, etc.) I get roughly 10 hours with stock battery and roughly 14 hours with 1900 mAh battery.
Switch to PA, flash AK kernel, download CPU Master, and set profiles.

Don't listen to anyone telling you to install a custom ROM. Fully charge your phone boot into SAFE MODE and see how long your battery lasts. If it lasts way more, it is a third party app that is draining your battery.

I'm _NOT_ switching away from stock ROM nor launcher, a lot of people out there using this phone all STOCK!
so is there any solution for stock users to do something about it? I actually did rooted my phone and installed leanKernel but that's as far as I'll go w/out changing ROM/launcher.
Hello, I just got a 2380mAh battery(brand new) When I tried charging it, it gives me 'Disconnect Battery error'. This did not happen with my stock battery. Can someone help me on setting up undervolting my battery and calibrating the right settings for my T989. I'm running on stock ROM and rooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First ur going to need a kernel that supports undervolting, which means u need to flash Tiberius or go flash a custom ROM that allows it, then DL system tuner from play store and go to tweaks, find voltage control and undervolt till u feel comfy or it starts working better, don't go to low though cuz it'll cause bsods or rrs
