[Q] battery life is horrible! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

.. ever since I updated to JB 4.2.2 (I even did _FULL_ wipe/reset) it seems like my batter goes so quickly its not even funny(( I get roughly about ~4h on battery / ~1h of screen time, I'm using STOCK ROM w/ STOCK launcher w/ latest leankernel (BestBalance profile).
i installed BBS and I'm unable to see anything that's doing something that it shouldn't, at this point I dont know what else to do(
please help!

try installing wakelock detector i would recommend possibly changing kernel i would ecomend franco's kernel for battery saving or AK SKL243 that sounds like a bad app somewhere

Like kevtrysmoddin stated, try flashing a new kernel but I wouldn't limit it to franco's as a kernels performance varies phone to phone. You mentioned you were running a stock ROM, but which one?

U can do a clean flash of Purity 5.4.1 with SKL 245 or Fancy r24/r21

I'm using latest lean kernel (6.5/3.0.76), BBS can see all wakelocks, I'll post few dumps later on.

I'm not looking for super advanced features. I'm using stock Rom and stock launcher without any mods other then lean kernel.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

May also want to take a look at the governor that you are using with your kernel. For me, ondemand gives best performance (battery wise) with lean kernel.

I checked it's interactive/deadline.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I'm on AOSPA 3.16 with franco.Kernal 376 and with average use (gaming, social, a lot of music, etc.) I get roughly 10 hours with stock battery and roughly 14 hours with 1900 mAh battery.

Switch to PA, flash AK kernel, download CPU Master, and set profiles.

Don't listen to anyone telling you to install a custom ROM. Fully charge your phone boot into SAFE MODE and see how long your battery lasts. If it lasts way more, it is a third party app that is draining your battery.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2

I'm _NOT_ switching away from stock ROM nor launcher, a lot of people out there using this phone all STOCK!
so is there any solution for stock users to do something about it? I actually did rooted my phone and installed leanKernel but that's as far as I'll go w/out changing ROM/launcher.

[Q] performance cyanogen mod 7 nightly build

hey guys
Yesterday I switched from the HTC Stock rom to the nightly cyanogenmod 7, latest version as of today.
Now my question:
i have the feeling that the phone is a bit slow compared to the htc stock rom (of course I have activated USB Debugging). Now my question is if it is recommended to flash another kernel.
I experience the performance loss for example on the homescreen and in the app drawer, it just doesnt feel that smooth any more... which is strange because the cyanogen mod uses the adwlauncher and I had the same launcher on the stock rom, running very smoothly.
Now is it just my immagination or am I not the only one experiencing that "problem".
I appreciate any comments
greetings from switzerland
I'm on build 12 now and find it very fast and stable. I am using adw launcher without any lag. Did you do a complete wipe before the upgrade?
As for the kernel, these are currently no kernels that work for cm7, how ever the stock kernel is very good and will overclock to 1.5ghz if you want it to.

yes I did a full wipe of the data and the cache..
It's just strange because everything was running so smooth with the stock rom and adwlauncher or launcher Pro. I even flashed the stable versoin of cm... same thing there...

No I'm not using any of this stuff... I tried to sort out everything that may cause the performance drop but with no results..
What linpack and quadrant scores are you getting after a reboot? You should really run each one 3 times and take an average, this will let you know how slow it is (not a 100% test but it'll help)
Also might be worth having a look at "Power Tutor", it'll be able to tell you which programs are using the cpu the most, might find one that is hogging it for some reason.

How exactely do I get those scores?
//EDIT: Ok results: about 40 - 41 Mflops, Time ~2s, Norm Res 5.68, Precision 2.22etc
Have you tried downloading spare parts off the market and setting screen animations to fast, might be them that make it look like its running slower. Be Dr this I an running out off ideas, your score on Linpack is about right for a stock kernel, yet could try running setCPU and have the CPU running a little faster, I have mine running at 1.2ghz for day to day stuff.

If you are using apache14's kernel and use smartass that is your problem. If it's stock CM kernel I don't know...Try setting the governor to performance in setcpu and re-run the benchmarks.Telling us your kernel and CPU clock would help!

I can usually get to the end of the day and still have about 30% left, but I an a heavy user and running the WiFi all evening, do a good 3-4 hours of browsing each day as well as other stuff.
This is not a problem for me as I charge every night. You should give it a go, if its no good return it to normal.

And you do experience a performance boost when overclocking it to 1,2 ghz?
Yes mate, I have a few profiles setup, when charging I have it set to 1.5ghz on performance, normal running is 1.2ghz on interactive and screen off set to 245mhz powersave. The phone is very fast, wakes up well and isn't doing to bad with the battery. The battery life will get better as the development of the Rom continues.

I just flashed the latest nightly build of 15 and it is just as fast as stock rom. Did not notice any slowness.

Please help with battery drain.

I'm new to the galaxy Nexus. I rooted it recently and put maddoggin's ROM onto it(Sprint). Also I have fh05 radios if this helps. I have tried a few different kernels. I noticed only when the screen is on is when it start its decline. I just took it off the charger at 100% at 1:30 now at 1:50 its at 85%. I really just want the jop40d stock kernel to give that a try but I can't find it. Someone please try to shine some light on this.

you gave us no screen shots or anything to even begin looking at the issue you may or may not be having.
What extra info do you think is needed? I gave the ROM radio and build I'm using.

40 minutes screen time and on LTE. Isn't that normal for that model?
I wish I knew what normal was
40 min of screen on time, lte enabled and still 66% left of battery. I think that's normal. Search the forum and u will find few threads about this.

I get around 1.5-2 hours of screen on time, LTE on all the time, no wifi and such...what kernel are you using with which i/o scheduler and governor are you running? Also, do a screen shot of running processes accessed through settings>apps>running processes.

So lte is the culprit? I came from wimax (GSII)

I/O cfq
Governor: interactive (can't change it anyways. Won't let me)
And the kernel is on a screen shot the previous page. Also my processor doesn't pass 700mhz although its set for 1200mhz weird.

Holy crap! You have a lot of things running! Usually I only have three or four processes running! I can tell you for sure that the maps app burns a lot of battery in the background, and you need to shut that down and turn off location services! Also, you have the same media bug that I do that I haven't figured out how to stop...sorry I forgot which rom you're on, but on 4.1.2, I had a really go fix by running a certain gapps package, but on 4.2, I'm stuck and that's why I'm online lol...

Just flash Pure AOSP ROM.. I too faced this issue when earlier I flashed stock ROM over bigxie's ROM.ASOP ROMs are very fast and stock type.
I did most of everything I was told and its still draining. I'm even using WiFi now. I guess I will try a aosp ROM and I still would like the stock kernel
do anyone else have any other idea of what the problem is? i know this isnt normal. no one would have this phone is the batter only lasted 4-5 hrs like mine

Msm_camera wake lock

My battery life is pretty awful. I have tried everything to improve it (different kernels etc) and nothing really has improved it. My phone gets HOT too. Just got better battery stats and discovered this. Anyone got any ideas how to fix? Could this be the problem of my battery problems?
Running latest cm10.1 nightly with kt kernel under bolted - 50mv. Thinking about switching to a touchwiz rom to see if this fixes it but really don't want to.

I would do a clean install again and instaead of undervolting just use koonservitive and over clock a little if you want. thats how i am running right now and i just got 40 hrs of battery life with pretty heave use
Thanks for the advice. I have been dirty flashing cm10.1 nightlies since the beginning of the year... Are you running cm10.1? I greatly prefer it to AOKP so would like to stay on that if I could.

Always running at 1.6ghz? Phone charging REALLY slow

Having an issue with charging for the past few days. Phone dies quickly. Phone charges really slow and in CPU Spy, it's either at 1600 mhz or deep sleep. Nothing in between. I checked the clock speed and it's 200 mhz - 1600 mhz. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Yes. Beanstalk.

I've found that the best battery is in carbon ROM

If you can get an app like betterbatterystats to show what is actually draining your battery then that should fix your problem. If you cant find out whats keeping your CPU at max then follow this as much as you can

Wipe the caches...

Let the phone sit untouched for 10 minutes...
Then use cpu spy from the market to test..
You could also try a kernel change to avoid the max cpu issues..
I'm running carbon rom with devil kernel and have no issues...g

Did both of those. Let you know in a bit.
Typically, when the cpu maxes out, phone won't charge.
Consider checking your governor, tweaks, or rogue apps.
10 mins on and still 98%. Everything seems to going so far. Now just my USB problem

I understand.
According to CPU Spy, 1600 is 59%! 800 is 1% and deep sleep is 35%. This is after a clean install / caches cleared / new kernel.
I don't know what's wrong. This is a first for me.

Have you installed personal apps beyond the gapps package ??
I've been plagued with this same issue on AOSP roms for weeks...
And finally settled with carbon rom and devil kernel...
Governor is pegasusq....and scheduling is cfs...
The initial boot will take mine about 10 minutes to settle in...and do "not" use any system tuning apps to control the CPU...as they will conflict and confuse the on board AOSP control..
If you have done this...then factory reset the device and try the test again with no optional apps that control the CPU...
This is a frustrating effect that only targets a few devices...and ours are affected...
I got through it...but try the above settings....and be patient on the first setup....and if the system is free of control files it will work...g
Edit:
I'll stick around for a bit and do my best to help the issue...
I finally got it on carbon rom nightly builds...as all CM nightly roms Will bork my CPU....g

4.3 ota sucks on sprint s3

So the stock ota 4.3 is awesome for performance and smoothness , but for battery it is absolutely horrible, even with a rooted phone and a 7000 extended battery im only getting about a day and 12 hours with about 8ish hours of screen time, then when i was on 4.1.2 i was getting 2 days 12 hours with 15+ish hours of screen time
Im using the same apps as before , greenify , deep sleep battery , mediaserver killer, and wake lock and everything looks normal like 4.1.2 but draining way way faster
Side note i also turned off all my notifications , turned off vibration, turned all gps, locations, off, brightness all the way down, sync is off that dont seem to help
Anyone else notice this or is just me? Anything i could be missing that i should check

I'm getting the same battery life as I was on 4.1.2 I do not use greenify or any other monitoring apps of any kind as they are monitoring all the time which does take resources aka BATTERY to monitor I'm also on stock kernel and I tried the decimalman kernel and for me that provided a faster performance with conservative governor bit way worse battery life. Maybe your battery is going bad...

exactly, I charge mine like once every 24-30 hours and it's rooted on the stock 4.3 ota...remove all those monitoring apps, they're quite pointless.
I use the following rooted apps: adaway 2.8, titanium pro/donate version, clean master, system cleaner, root browser, cache cleaner ng
I ripped out all the Google stock apps like books, games, news, etc. I freeze Facebook cause that eats a lot of battery and only defrost for certain times...I use the browser for my email, Facebook, Amazon, even here like now lol
maybe you'll wanna try the kitkat 4.4.2 nightly rom? more battery friendly too, I have all files up to date and instructions to install it in my rooting 4.3 stock guide if you wanna check it out...totally safe to use
