Hello everyone, I am experiencing a problem with 3g. This probably has been asked before, but I can't find an answer.
I am in canada, which means the 3G frequencies or whatever is only for LT15a. I have an LT15a phone, with LT15i on it, firmware shouldn't effect the hardware right? So I would still pick up the LT15a frequencies on my LT15a (running LT15i) phone?
But when, say, I am in a car. I don't pick up any connection at all. I can only connect to wifi connections nearby.
When I go to Settings>Mobile Network>Service Providers, I get
3G ROGERS
2G ROGERS
TELUS
Bell
So obviously I would select 3G rogers, and then it says "registered on network" and there is a checkmark beside it. But this hasn't changed anything yet. I have data enabled, but not data roaming. I don't get a 3G symbol, even when I disable wifi. So how can I enable 3G?
Also every time I download internet settings (usually it does this when I open browser) I have to select between Rogers, Fido and cancel. Picking rogers always says "Could not download. Tap here to try again." This gets annoying, could fixing this fix the 3G?

I am not sure, but i think that the North Americas has their own frequencies for 3G which probably requires a firmware ending with a in order to work properly.

Last time I tried to use CM (7 I think?) it didn't work so I found a thread saying to remove some certain code to remove LT15a/i restrictions. You know where this is going.
But could I actually use LT15a ICS if I use CM9?

last time I always got some long error that said something about LT15i, and then it would say LT18 next time, but ok, I will try. Do i just download the lt15i cm9?
EDIT: im using flashtool, should I untick "clear data" and tick everything in exclude except "exclude baseband" ?

Thank you so much, I am restoring all my stuff now. The only thing I need to fix now is not being able to connect to wifi

Hey All,
So, for some reason, I am unable to get LTE when i am flashed on the AOKP jellybean rom for the SGH-1747M (rogers)
I did everything that was stated in Task's Gerrit (Changed the connection for WCDMA to LTE/GSM auto), all that does is work for a while on H+, then disconnects.
I've changed my apn settings to the Rogers LTE settings, which just cuts off communication all together
Ive flashed Rogers Modems, still to no avail.
The thing that bothers me is that other sgh-1747M users claim to have been getting LTE on the AOKP jellybean rom.
My question is WHY AM I HAVING TROUBLE!!!??? I know the Rom was made for an At&T sgh1747, so people may say thats why its not working, but people with Canadian SG3's have been able to get LTE on the same ROM im having trouble getting it on.
If theres anything at all im missing, can someone please clarify exactly what im missing and what I should do to get it working.
I love the AOKP jellybean ROM, i keep going back to it, but the LTE not working just hurts my feelings (since I am paying for an LTE smartphone plan). PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!
PS: the first time I ever changed from WCDMA to LTE/GSM autom i got a 4G symbol for about 30 secs.....never seen it again! HELP!
i dont have a gerrit. so im unsure what you are talking about.
you need to add a canadian LTE apn and then do this...
Enter *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer
phone information
set preferred network type
change to LTE/GSM auto

I'm not really sure. Being as I don't have a Canadian model its not something I can test. But I'm sure some Canadian users will be posting here to help you out soon.
when i try to change the preferred network it will not let me change it to anything else but to lte/gsm (prl) (i have the AT&T version)

Thats interesting. Maybe its because you are actually using at&t network. It works when I put it on LTE/GSM, but all I get is 3G and H+
Check your IMEI in about phone/status. If its showing 0, there's a thread for that.
If you're getting 4G icon and your mobile network status says LTE and are getting LTE speeds, then its cosmetic issue. I had that problem before.
What I did was I flashed Kyan's ROM 1.3 cause its based off of Rogers firmware. Once I verified I had LTE icon on Kyan ROM, then flashed the stock/rooted ROM after.

Interesting. I will try that method and see what happens. Thanks for the info; will post back with results soon
Ok, so after going through the whole process stated above, i WAS able to get a 4G symbol come every now and then. But before the connection actually finalizes and goes through (before it turns blue on the aokp rom), it disconnects and goes back to WCDMA preferred. I added the rogers LTE apn, and using that apn with the LTE/GSM auto selected allowed the 4G to come, but it keeps disconnecting. It even sometimes changes back to other apns on the list by itself
Anyone know if theres a way to lock the preferred network and apn settings?
enter apn settings, then REBOOT phone. After that, enter *#*#4636#*#* into phone dialer and go change to LTE/CMDA/GSM. that worked for me, I just needed to reboot my phone for the apn settings to work

Mine works until I reboot. Then it changes back to WCDMA. I'm on Telus.
LTE on canadian i747M (Rogers)
I had similar issue with LTE after flashing to AOKP rom. The fix provided by AOKP (after every reboot, type in *#*#4636#*#* and flipping the network type from WCDMA to LTE_only, then flip to LTE/GSM auto(PRL) ) works. LTE will show up as 4G. I have the 2012-09-30 AOKP build installed.
Yesterday all of a sudden I could not get LTE anymore. Not sure what happened as the only thing I did was to activate a new account on Google. Anyway the 4G/ flipping did not work anymore. Reflashed the rom several times, still the same issue, my phone will not get LTE/4G.
This morning tried the following and voila it worked, thought I will share this:
Flip the network type to LTE Only, there is no connection, REBOOT the phone.
1. After reboot, flip the network type to LTE Only again, this time, the connection worked - what a surprise/thrill.
2. Flipped the network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL), connection was ok and 4G came on and stayed on. Did several reboots and repeated 1 and 2 and LTE/4G was ok.
Hope this helps.
I don't recommend you to use task aokp rom! You won't get LTE real speed and Dev won't help you since you are not an at&t user! He couldn't care less about the rest so try liquid jelly bean which is a lot faster and better or milestone 4 and aristodemo! They have better support although they are tw rom but worthy anyways

Task compiles that ROM based on AOKP source, but AOKP officially doesn't support att. Although I didn't have problems getting lte on his ROM the fact that you have to set it every time you reboot is why I am using cm10 for now otherwise it's a good ROM!
I'm having the same issues on my rogers branded s3. No matter what I do I can get lte to even appear. My apn auto rolls back to the provided apn and if I delete that I have no data at all. Hopefully this does have an answer because the Rom is amazing

Alright I think I have it figured out. I added the rogers APN related all others and the only change I made was I removed the info under APN type where it said internet+MMS and left it blank. Saved the APN rebooted and I have lte now. I even rebooted my phone and each time it boots up its showing 4g without having to play with any settings

I have a problem with my telus i747m, I have unlocked it and am trying to use it on rogers but cant. I have tried different sims.
My problem is I dont have a network connection all the time. When I do have a connection as soon as i get a text or try to make a call the phone looses the network connection, when making a call the call gets through but the phone looses connection and the call then gets cut.
no data connection at all. I have rooted the phone and tried flashing the modem posted in development section but it did not help.
do you guys think its a hardware problem, or software?
also when no network is connected and I try searching for a provider it ask me to insert a sim. I have tried different sims and both work fine in another s3 i have.
The phone has a strong signal when it connects to the network and then as soon as the 4g pops up or after a couple of seconds the signal just drops and loses the connection. Then it will keep on getting a signal and instantly drop the network connection over and over again. i have another s3 i can try swapping parts but i dont know what to swap.
hellpppp meeeee!!!
Ok i used rf nv manager andbthe imei is fine.

lol yeah its a odd problem. ill try flashing that, the modem listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898 says rogers, telus, bell is this what you are talking about?
thanks
update so i was about to try flashing the modem again, i poped in the sim turned on the phone and noticed the signal wasnt dropping when wifi was connected. I then shut of wifi and as soon as the 4g symbol poped up the network connection dropped, I then shut off data and got the signal back i havnt lost it sinse and i made a 40 minute call to rogers with no issue; I have full bars.
so it seems when data is turned on the network gets disconnected. hope this helps in finding the problem.
i played with the settings a bit and this is what happen:
GSM only + data enabled = phone works fine
HSPA only + data enabled = as soon as 4g pops up network drops
GSM/HSPA (auto) + data enable = as soon as 4g pops up network drops
GSM/HSPA/LTE(auto) + data enable = as soon as 4g pops up network drops
all of the settings work if data is disabled.
I have just flashed the latest bell jelly bean leak and still the same problem with data turned on phone loses connection.
I have the same setup (Telus SGS3 with Rogers sim) as you but don't encounter that problem. You might want to try to use your warranty for the problem as it shouldn't do that on stock in the first place.

yeah i tried manually setting the apn too. didnt make a differance, also tried the rogers mvlle8 modem no differance basically the phone works with data off, or only gsm with data on.
I have another s3 i thought it could be the sim holder or something tried swapping that, it didnt change anything. do you guys think i should try swapping the antenna

I bought it used and have already opened it up to try swapping parts wwith my other s3, also have flashed it with custom rom and im guessing the previous owner did aswell because the flash counter was at 5 I think ive voided the warranty. Hi all, ever since stock went to JB 4.1, I can not get phone to work on any Rom. Any ROM I flash, many and all radio flash and kernel flash. No matter what, I can not get phone to work on any Rom, except stock rooted Roms. I have T-Mobile SGH-T989 SG2! I wiped everything, tried touch and non touch CWM and just can't get phone to work. I tried every radio that is posted and read all radio issue threads. I even started from a fresh Odin stock flash with wiping everything on phone and sd card as well as external format. All roms that I flash work, but cant not connect to T-Mobile! I even manually applied APN's. Some Roms will detect T-Mobile and it won't connect. Keep getting AT&T, but won't register. This is the second thread I started, but with only one response for help that I tried. PLEASE, anyone with some advice, Thanks!

Doubt it is Sim card, phone works fine on stock JB (Rooted). Thx!
Try Network app from Market, and select GSM Auto (Prl).
Or go to settings, more, mobile networks and network mode and select GSM/WCDMA preferred.
Or go to EDGE / 2G only as a test.
In CM 10.1 and SlimBeam weeklies which I use, it seems to default to LTE/WCDMA. Since our phone does not have LTE, and very few T-mo markets have LTE, I found in some areas it would not register on the network at all until I changed the network preferences to one of the above because I presume the phone is trying LTE when the S2 doesn't have LTE. Also check your APN's? Just some suggestions.
You need a new phone perhaps then.
Seriously, with the new radio for T-Mobile or Telus, which are the only ones that work on all current roms (any others you've tried has been wasted time), and the correct apn settings, you shouldn't be having issues. Triple check radio is correct and apn.
You say your sim is fine.
So everything seems to be ruled out. And other than radio and apn, it can't be any settings, not after a clean install.
Phone busted is all that's left. Simple process of elimination. Well....if it somehow works on stock, but nothing else....then I guess your stuck with stock.
Thx.
P.s. getting snarky with people trying to help will certainly make most people, who may have ideas, just close the thread instead of trying to help.

Hi, guys I recently ran into an issue with the build prop modification in regards to network selection. If I enable the network selection as pointed out in one of the other threads and select LTE /CDMA my phone will lock on LTE however no phone calls can be made out or recieved. I had to reflash to 10k then reroot and then change the build prop to CA/TLS and finally hardreset via stock recovery. Anybody else have this issue?
UPDATE... looks like as long as i dont try to make a call the option to switch it back to auto is still there. One a call is attempted and fails the option to set to auto disappears.

Simple fix. Just select airplane mode for a few and then toggle it off and you'll see your network options come back once data roaming turns off and your carrier logo appears. I typically run lte/CDMA to get consistent lte speed bit when a callsade I have the same issue as you. But I just gave your the fix so your good

Thanks a lot captain obvious, the point of the thread wasn't to "not switch it" dude, it's finding a work around and make everybody aware of what happens.
