Ram - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

How often should I clear my ram. I just do once a day.
Sent from my GT-S5360 using Tapatalk 2

I never bother doing it. I don't even have a task killer, but i do reboot it once a day. That helps keeping it in good shape.

Never. Clearing ram doesn't help anything. And never use any task killer apps, android has a inbuilt task killer. Ram doesn't directly mean battery usage. Clearing it only helps in more battery drain

Never.. I have tweaked my system to clear ram automatically.

Try memory booster lite. But you are better off installing the V6 Supercharger.

Its just not especially Ram Level 2.
Just hit clear memory on the Ram Tab. And kill any unnecessary apps on the active apps tab

its not an app its a script you install through recovery.
if you run AOKP here's the script you can install through Recovery
http://android.mimic.ca/download/cea87b9810cef44d26195600fc22aab6/epic-4g-aokp-milestone-6
just choose the CWM version.
Don't use any. Let android do what it does.

I wish I could like the same post multiple times. So many people ask me how my Epic runs so smooth even after days of uptime and constant use. I answer "with good settings, choosing good apps, and otherwise letting Android do what it's built to do and not changing things assuming I know better".
Sent from my SPH-D700 CM9 4.0.4
so r u saying keep letting it run like poo? because what it is doing is pissing off right now
Try Memory Booster lite or the built in task killer. Just don't keep killing system apps that are going to reload anyway because that will drain your battery. Android on the miniscule amount of memory the Epic has, does not always handle memory correctly and some apps are poorly written and do not release memory and resources.

Same here. I run CM9 RC1 completely stock and let it do it's thing. I'm at 200+hrs uptime and it's still smooth as butter.

As we all know every phone and every user and every configuration is different. Marcusant and Zeinzu both of you have had more than your share of your phones acting different than the majority. It would be more helpful to suggest how to help this guy than brag about how wonderful your phone is. Makes you guys sound like someone else we know. Some phones do not clear memory well and can use help.
OP use some of my suggestions here.

Optimal oom settings

I would like to know the best settings that people use or recommend using or now of an app that's good. I'm using auto killer and I realized it works a lot differently on this phone compared to others.

I stopped using auto task killers ages ago, the built in memory management in android is good enough. You can always just swipe away the apps you dont use in the task drawer anyways.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Using task killers on Android stopped making sense since froyo. Don't use one.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
He's not asking about task killers. He's asking what is the best threshold of androids internal memory handler gives optimal results. I'm curious too.
Ah right. I saw the word auto killer and assumed task killer. In that case, I think ram management apps are just as useful as their equivalents for other OSes: useless.

Yes it was about oom think supercharger script and I was wondering since this phone is quite peculiar on available ram.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I personally use ROM toolbox to control how much background apps and foreground apps gets to use RAM... It's not a task killer. More useful than that. I personally hated the fact that some apps just close because there wasn't much RAM left. These apps just stops that from happening.

What's normal ram consumption?

What is your guys normal ram consumption when nothing is running in the normal task manager?
This is not even the worse its been I have gotten to 27% free with no apps running.

This one is not clearing anything. And this one is with clearing
i never check or clear my memory or cache.

How do you guys keep your Rams low?

I am just curious on what are people doing to keep the Ram count down other than closing constantly unused apps manually.
Mine is always up there and I am constantly removing and clearing apps.
Thanks

It's all about what u got running on your phone, u know apps, games, widgets, LWP, Sometimes even some launchers suck alot of RAM. I would suggest u download greenify app from the playstore, that should help a little.
Just leave that alone, android is smart and you're just wasting battery life. Google android ram management or why not to kill apps on android, there are about 1000 posts about why not to do so anymore.

[Q]Is there an app or script that will clear RAM when screen goes off?

Looking for an app or script that will clear ram automatically when screen goes off. Thank you

Advanced task killer pro does that. If you're rooted, you can use greenify which pretty much does the same thing but hibernates the app as well.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
No need to do that honestly.
You'll only use up more battery clearing out the ram every time.
Android does a really good god in ram management.
Greenify is a good alternative.
It doesn't clear them off ram but it hibernates apps from running in the background that would also consume battery.

Yes it is... Unless you close it completely. Random Access Memory is that.... Places apps apps in memory to later take them out to run, which makes it a faster process rather than closing them completely and opening them again.
Greenify "hibernates" and app as in it won't run, notifications checks, automatically running, check ins or refreshing feeds to save battery, its still in ram but its not running, saving lots of battery.
