Infuse Dock Reborn-Extracted Cirucit Board Ready For Your Dock - Galaxy S III Accessories

My problem was I already had a sturdy Arkon window mount for my 7" tablet. Easy in and strong and with the proper grip already in place (you can change them out for various size fingers to fit most tabs and phones; landscape or portrait.
I got the infuse dock, but did not want a second mount in my car and I did not want to take the S III out of the case. So, I took the circuit board out as many have done already, and retained the cover to support my cables (Male Micro to Female Micro, left angle so it faces down with my Galaxy landscape Micro port to the right bought from USBfirewire.com).
No I can change from tab to phone, no case removal and all the advantages of one cable connection to the phone with no case removal. Pics attached. Have fun.

As a side note, one of the reasons I could not stream line the assembly and had to retain the micro usb extension wire was the fact that the connector would not stay plugged into the dock micro usb male connector. I guess the weight of the phone in the dock kept it in place as id does not "lock" into the extension. Perhaps other brands work better. Also the usbfirewire.com cable is nearly twice the thickness of a regular cable and is pretty stiff.

I tried out the dock and connector today and it works great. I loaded Google Car app and it gives me the choice of S voice or Google Car app upon connection. I do find that using S Voice and stock driving mode, I sometimes have to go to the Dock settings and toggle on and off the audio out mode if I hear no sound from my car speakers

[Q] Cable that puts the Evo in car mode?

I'm using an adjustable car mount from proclip that holds my phone really nicely in my truck, and I've got a 1000mA USB car adapter that charges the phone really well with a standard USB cable.
My question is about getting the phone to go into car mode when I plug it in. I've read some posts that say shorting the data pins together in the USB cable will make the phone see it as a car charger. Has anyone had any luck making a cable like this? Does it work? Is there anywhere where I can buy one for cheap?
I believe that you can set a profile in Tasker to have car mode enabled whenever AC, USB or both are present.

I've made a cable that does this. I had to buy parts in bulk so I'm listing the rest of them in the XDA market: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784379.
@Davpel - That might work, but then wouldn't it go into car mode whenever I plugged it in elsewhere too?
@ForceO - Sounds nice, but I can't get into the market... I don't think I have enough posts yet. Can you PM me the info?
Using tasker to run car mode will not run car mode every time you plug your phone into a usb charger, if you download the power plug profile from the tasker wiki and install it. When you plug your phone, your phone will ask you if you want car, home or night mode. Pick car mode and tasker will run whatever car dock program you want. I use Custom car home.

ForceOnature has the ticket, that's it, ground pin 4 on the micro usb.

It's pretty easy to make, just take a grinder to a micro usb cable, then pick the extra plastic off with your fingers, then solder a jumper between pins 4 and 5, that part can be tricky because of the size of the tab you need to solder to....patience is key.

I tried the Dremel route and it was definitely not easy. Ended up having to abort and make my own from scratch because the plastic/epoxy stuff used to fill in under the black rubber shell was too hard to remove and still leave the pins intact.

Car Dock Mode

I have bought myself a car mount for my phone, but what I would like to know is, What actually activates car dock mode on this phone? Some people said their should by a small magnet in the holder that activates a mag switch in the phone? Is that true or should I go into car dock mode manually every time?
it's true "their should by a small magnet..."
According to this page it is the USB cord that activates the car dock mode. It probably has some resistors from a pin to another pin, so that your device knows when to change to dock mode.
The fifth pin is grounded in the charger (actually this is the wiring in type A micro USB plugs, but with the form factor of type B micro USB). The better alternative is to use Google's car panel - you can set it to open itself when connected to your bluetooth handfree, you can have any navigation software launched by it and best of all - it works in landscape (a huge oversight on HTC's part).

Infuse 4g/ Galaxy SIII Vehicle Dock Charging Question

So I am planning on getting the Infuse dock for my S3. I want to hard-wire it in my truck so it is a clean install and wires are not everywhere. My options that I see right now are to splice in a cig lighter socket to the current one or the head unit power and then just plug in the car charger to that and run the wire behind the dash up to the mount.
I am assuming the power adapter that gets plugged into the cig lighter steps the power down from the 12v+ to the 3 or 4v to charge the phone correct? Or is this built into the part of the actual dock/mount that slides into the phone? If this is built into the dock/mount I could just run a wire straight down to the fuse panel and wire it in there without having to use a cig socket and adapter.
And another quick question....if I got a new head unit with a rear USB port I could just run a longer USB cable from the dock behind the dash to the rear input. Assuming this provides power, I could charge, use MTP, and stream pandora correct? Would this also replace Bluetooth hands free calling? I guess it would just be simple to pop the phone in the dock and have all those features and not have to worry about turning Bluetooth on and off and pairing. Plus I would assume audio quality would be better via a wired connection rather than Bluetooth.
Anyone?

The dock needs a micro usb connection, which is 5 volts. You have lots of options, from just plugging a micro usb car charger into the dock and lighter socket, to opening up that car charger and wiring direct to fuse box, to wiring a new lighter socket under the dash to the fuse box then getting the little adapter that looks like a rocket that plugs into a lighter socket and gives you a usb port. Combine that with a micro usb cable and poof. I did this last setup and it works great...

[Video] Charging dock desktop cradle for the OnePlus One

Hey Everyone-
Hope you all have been enjoying the videos. This video takes a look at a generic desktop charging dock made for the HTC One M8 but happens to work perfectly with the OnePlus One. Thanks to @hka148 for bringing this to my attention.
For additional OnePlus and technology videos, check out my YouTube channel. Enjoy!

EDIT - There is a use for the USB port on the back of the dock. It can be used to charge a secondary device such as a bluetooth headset or a tablet while your device is being charged in the cradle.
Hey KP, thanks for all the videos you have been doing for us. Just a thought about that USB plug in the back that you did not know what it was for. Maybe it allows you to hook up a power source to charge the phone with a regular male USB input cord in case you don't have a micro-USB connecting cord?

Can you use the USB output and short cable to charge the phone? I'm guessing the idea is so you can put your phone in landscape (horizontally) and charge at the same time.
Thanks for the video anyway!
You read my mind. Was planning to get this but thanks for showing it in action with a TPU case on it.

hmmmm .... maybe! I'm trying to think of anything in my toys where i could arrange what would essentially be male usb to male usb power. Hell, i don't even own a male usb to male usb cable
If i had a male usb to male usb cable i'd probably try using AC as the micro usb power source hook the power the USB port up to a USB port on a PC to see if that functions for data exchange between the devices.

I don't think that would work, i mean putting the phone in the dock in landscape. Remember the channel where you place your phone has a male micro USB connector sticking up in the middle of it. If you turn your phone sideways then that micro USB connector has nowhere to go so you'd be trying to balance you're phone on it sideways which i don't think would work.
What you may be onto though is the fact that it could function as a second charging source so your phone could be in the dock in portrait orientation and you could charge a second device (like a bluetooth headset) via the USB port.

If you put the bit of removable bit of plastic upside down, can you put the phone back in landscape so it's not touching the micro usb ? or is the lip too small then?
*EDIT* Just watched the video again and the removable plastic is flush so there wont be any lip if you put it in upside down.

They should have hired you to help them with the design because that makes sense!! but no, unfortunately it wouldn't work. I like that thought process though

Cool I'll actually use that. I have a Bluetooth headset that sits right next to where I'll have the dock.
what about the speakers?
that dock dont block them ?
I just recieved my dock which i got on your review, and first of, the usb port is wrong way , i had to open it up and turn it around, but doing so i found out how cheap and flimsy the unit is..i cannot get phone to sit on it enough to get a connection and if you take out insert to use with case, you may find the usb end coming out with the plactic it sits in as it is not actually secured in with anything ...mine is now in the trash some 30 mins after opening it...my recommendation......dont bother

Looking for a product like THIS but using USB-C

Hey so I have a Pixel 2 and I've been missing my headphone jack for quite some time. Yes, I can have a USB-C to Aux dongle like the one that came with my phone but it just feels awkward being there. However, while looking at Aliexpress I came across a product for the iPhone
https://goo.gl/uiKYt4
It's a lightening to aux lightening splitter that has a ring holder that doubles as a mount for the splitter on the back of the phone. it makes it take up as little space as possible and was wondering if anyone knew of a USB C Variant for this kind of product?
