Unroot revolutionary on Linux? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Trying to restore my sisters phone to stock unrooted after warranty replacement but my current laptop is running Ubuntu studio 12.04. All the guides I've found are for windows and using adb through the command prompt. Is there a similar guide using bash/alternative method for Linux?
I spent a lot of time on Google trying to figure this out, so, if there's an obvious solution, please try not to flame. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would really really appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure if you have adb setup you can use same commands just in terminal

Yep, if there are any windows specific commands (I don't think there are) just say what they are.

OMG that guide worked fantastically. Also, droidfiles.us had a guide that was almost identical so if anyone is having issues you can also use that one. Thank you so much for the info on where to get files and where to look for the guides. wish i could +1 you or something but I'm a noob lol

One note, the guide on droidfiles.us, the step regarding the bootloader has the bootloader name missing a zero.

Did you try turning it off and back on again?
Need a little more info...
The replacement I recieved's firmware can not.be.downgraded for the S-Off root. With the software being 2.3.4, revolutionary will not root. All this.being said, i.have not been able to find a successful way to downgrade. I have tried all the ways I have found on XDA as well as google and the only one they said would work was Tacoroot and I havent been able to get my computer to get it to work.

Tell us where you are getting stuck, I got my dinc2 with the same setup you have and (after swearing a lot and crying a little) I got s-off and am now running ICS. We are here to help. Calm down and breath, the community here is very helpful. Also, read everything VERY carefully, if you don't do everything juuuuust right it won't work for you.

You can actually force SuperUser on with the SU zip file. But, you need to have an unlocked BootLoader.
You can unlock your Bootloader from HTC's DevSite.
There is also a video from someone on YouTube named FlamingAiro. The video was posted June 19th, 2012. It's SUPER easy once you understand.
I would link you but the forum prevents me because I have not made enough posts for outside links.

Ah, I appologize; I didn't see you rooted it. My browser glitched out for a second.
Enjoy the root!
Also, a good ROM that has ICS and Sense 4.0 is UKB Evolution 1.1. :3
I have that as well but I'm trying to decide whether to stick with CM10 or sense 4.0.....
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I think that Sense 4 is a nice OS and that CM10 has a LOT of bugs. It is still in dev form.
Sense 4.0 for the DINC2 (Vivow) is MuCH more stable and has better response. Also, saves your battery.

I tried that like 5 times on 2 different Macs. One of the lines is wrong. You have to type:
"cd /user/username/downloads" and once you untar the file and attempt to flash it gives you a message that either "heimdall" or "kernel" is an invalid command. Any suggestions on how to fix that?

Root methods

Is there ever going to be a different root method for this phone? I have tried the taco root method a dozen times on two different computers but I always get the same failure. I believe I am doing it right it just won't work. Sorry if this is a dumb question just frustrated at this point.

I don't know what forum you posted to, but I just recently rooted and achieved S-Off with my Dinc2 using the tacoroot method and revolutionary. It took me 10 hours to finally get it and after successfully getting temporary root with tacoroot the trick I found was to run revolutionary and WAIT. Even though each time I ran revolutionary I got the message that read "FAILED! Go make some lemonade" after I waited maybe 20 minutes (while furiously searching for other root methods) the pink "S-OFF" message appeared in my bootloader on its own.

Maybe it will be easiest to use someone else's PC first. After that Mobile Odin can allow flashing from on board your phone.

Other than the method posted, no. Did you use the files in the attachments linked to that root thread? As there are no exploits available to make flashable roots it must be done either with a computer or the method posted.

I apologize for sounding rude, but if you can't follow that guide I don't suggest messing around with your phone too much.
It's pretty straight forward, all you're doing is typing commands into terminal emulator once the required files are on your sd....not difficult in the slightest.
Why not just go to a library and use one of their computers? Or a friends? There's no one click root for the GS3 pretty sure.
Thats where I need help at the terminal emulator commands

Well anyway,
I did try the exploit on my computer and discovered that the exploit appears to be patched for AT&T phones on the latest update, which most people have, which makes this thread somewhat pointless.
It did work on the previous 4.1.1, but only with a computer, which still makes this thread pointless, and most people are going to struggle anyway with the way the terminal commands are given.
It's much easier to just use someone else's computer and use one of the easier root methods.
