Hi XDA staff,
Is there any chance we can get a 'thanks' button added to the classic theme? People think I'm being ungrateful
Before anyone asks why I don't use the new theme, two main points:
1) Bandwidth saving, especially when browsing on mobile via web (which I still do because Tapatalk has no "Search in titles only" option)
2) Search results from Google referring to a specific page only correspond to the classic theme. That is, if you jump from a google result to an article that matches your search on page 30, the new theme will go to page 30 but it's not the same page that google indexed.
Thanks!

Am I missing some way to easily navigate back to the forum page when I'm at the bottom of a thread of postings?
vBulletin (that's not what we're using here, right?) has a dropdown at the bottom of every page where you can select a forum to navigate to, and by default it always has the current forum being read already selected, so you can just hit GO.
Here in XDA I get to the bottom of a page and can't figure out how to get back to the topic listing, except by going back to the top of the page, and clicking on the forum name in the forum->subforum->threadTitle navigation.
This is very cumbersome.
Pressing the BACK button on the keyboard is certainly an option, but this suffers from not updating the topic listing page, so I can't easily see which threads have new posts since I last visited them.
Sorry for the small novel explaining this.
If you use Chrome then you could use the XDA Toolbar (see my sig), made by one of the handsome and witty intelligent devs of this very site
It currently has a "Jump to top of page" button on it, which will halve your problem, but there will be a release soon that will include the ability to double-click that very same button and go to the parent forum (exactly like what you're asking for). The advantage of this is that you have to be neither at the top or bottom of the page to use it.
If you don't use Chrome, get used to pressing the home key a lot
Thanks for the response! Yes, I found the 'top' line quite a while ago, but never thought of using the home key. That helps a lot.
I look forward to the upgrade!
I am having a problem with the quick search and kindle fires pop up keyboard. If you use the quick search within a forum the keyboard pops up then disappears. This is using the stock kindle Kb and Swype. And dolphin HD and silk as well.
The only way to search and have the keyboard stay up is to go into advanced search. Then both keyboards work fine.
Just wondering if it might be a glitch in the web coding.
When I say quick search I mean clicking the search button within a forum typing in the search field that pops up immediately.
Does it the same way in search this thread too.
BTW, I just checked it out on my droidx and it behaves the same with Swype and also the multi touch keyboard.
Not sure if I was clear in my first post.
I am talking about searches on THIS forum. XDA-Developers.com
I am not talking about searches in general.
I am talking about the specific problem happening on this forum!!
Are you referring to the Contextual Search "pop-up"?
That probably was never intended for mobile use but you can easily turn that off in your User CP > Edit Options or this URL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
and uncheck "Enable Contextual Search"
Thanks for the reply. No I am not referring to the contextual search. That it's already disabled in my cp.
If you look right above the first post in this thread there is a "search this thread" button on the right. If I click that, a search box comes up right below the button. It is in that box that I am having the problem. Same for the "search this forum" button on the forum index.
The only way to search is to then go into advanced search. Then the keyboard will stay up so I can type.
Btw, thanks again. I realized I may not have been real clear in my first post.

I'm quite happy with the 'Home' page, and the 'Google' page, but I'm not sure entirely how to go about doing the apps page.
I was thinking of doing it all with zooper widget (like the google page - none of those are actual icons, it's all zooper widget.) in order to position things properly, because the launcher grid doesn't allow actual icons to be placed in appropriate positions.
I need some music controls somewhere too - maybe at the bottom of the google page, or the apps page if I split the rectangle background?
Also, I'm thinking of swapping the position of the top 'navbars' and the bottom searchbar, so that I can have a persistent google search (which only displays on the top with no option to place it on the bottom (Nova Launcher). This would require changing the wallpaper background to have the zooper widget search box as part of the background, with the actual search widget on top of it, unless there's a way to have the search zooper widget act/behave exactly like the google search bar?
I plan to release the files when done if anyone is interested
Lock screen is temporary until I figure out what to do with that - ideas/suggestions?
Thanks in advance guys.

Click to collapse
With a layout as clean as you have now, I would be concerned that putting in music controls would complicate things unnecessarily. You might consider hiding the music controls using popup widget 2, or something similar. This would allow you to have music controls at the touch of a button, but not persistent (so that if you aren't listening to music they aren't in the way).
Auto popup with important info (short)
Hello,
I have been on this forum for a short moment now. And like to say thank you first for all the help so far. Thank you for your patience too!
You guys and girls have helped me root and customise my phones.
On topic:
I see there is a need to educate users for the right way to post messages. I suggest a kind of popup with the most important rules.
One of the important issues is that the forum is being filled with posts that are not at right place.
Like developer forum where questions are asked. I myself made myself guilty as well. Been thinking how to correct it.
The solution might be as follows:
- Create a popup that shows the most important rules.
- The same popup has a link to the more complete rules page.
- at the end people sign they acknowledge they have read it and understand.
- Then people can press ok
- A new popup shows (based on login). It shows a quiz and will ask questions. If the user does not know, he /she will not get access to
the forum at all!
- All users must complete this test! Not completing equals no access. After completing you will be sure the user knows the rules.
- Extra precausion, or called penalty if a user does something that is not right. No warning given, but the penalty will be given like
unable to login. Let's say 2 days to start with. With a second violation the period is extended to 1 week. Third time 1 month offline.
Forum admin keep the right to freeze a user and put that user onto a blacklist any time. Which means no access any longer.
Perhaps combine that with IP registration.
I don't know about you, but if I really need an answer fast, I would think twice to make big mistakes again and again.
I know the forum is not the quickest in answering, but people do answer, and usually have good answers.
Hope these suggestions are usefull. B.t.w. this website looks really good! :good: But the content that is offered, outmatches the looks
by a million times. The data, tools, apps made by you guys and roms are priceless!
Keep on the good work
XDA has the least user-friendly forum design I've seen. It has nothing to do with advertisements. Whenever I click the search icon or click the text box for searching a thread or forum, it uses Algolia instead of the far superior built-in vBulletin search engine. Finding a particular forum is a pain in the ass because the newest devices of the day displace links to more useful forums like "General" and whatnot.
This new design is no improvement. Up in the left-hand corner of the top nenu bar, you could click a dropdown menu to view your own posts, any new PMs that have been received, and replies to your own posts. Now, there is some dinky little link that says "Notifications", but brings you to a page without notifications! There is a dot next to "Notifications" for me that says I have 3, but all it does is bring me to my user control panel where NO replies to my posts are shown. It doesn't even reset the unread notification count.
Who the hell designs this website's UI?
My notification dot keeps filling up and never sets back to 0.
No more Mentions or Quotes too, what happened to these? Please put back...
I know you all are trying it's much appreciated but the layout is to Bloated looking, like the News drop down, with the images and bold font, the design is really old looking, sorry to say...
Thin/Light Sleek for Text and UI...
The old layout was fine, it worked.
Please keep this to one thread, thanks: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/about-xda/xda-interface-issues-t3875934
Why is advanced search so hard to get to on the XDA 2015 skin? Can't find a link to it on the "forum home" page!? I have to enter a thread first before I find the gear icon... Am I missing something?
Also no "quick links", have to dig to find my posts and subscribed threads... back to 2013 skin for me...
Yea, I'm not sure there is a link to the advanced search from the main forum home page. I agree it's not ideal. You can just bookmark this link for reference if you prefer: https://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
Also, the quickest way to get to your profile/posts/subscriptions is by clicking your profile icon in the top right corner and clicking your username. So your posts/subscriptions etc are only one click away.
