[Q] SystemUI.apk

How does one replace the existing systemui.apk file with the new desired one? Each attempt on my own, I end up with force closes, or "not able to install."
Thanks in advance.
Doesn't work like that. To be simple.

I should point out I am on a Mac.
Do I need to sign my new apk or something? Maybe include it in the entire rom to be flashed?
Help pwease...
I managed to include it with my rom and flash it.
Now, Am I able to rename the rom or will that screw something up?

Technically no. Your question pertains to development, but the development section is for releases of Roms, Radios and kernels and such. But to answer your question, you can rename your flashable zip with no problems. Good luck!

[Q] HTC Wildfire Bee from Cox

Hi Guys, I really need your help on this one. I have HTC Wildfire from Cox. I wanted to root and remove Cox power up animation on this phone. Here is the details of my phone:
Android 2.2.1
HBoot 1.40.0000
Kernel 2.6.32.21
Let me know if you need more information. I saw many guides about Wildfire but I did not see anyone that has HBoot 1.40.0000 that is why I'm not really sure if the guide is right for my phone.
Sorry I'm new with HTC and Android please help and point me to the right direction.
Thank you so much!!
Sorry, the HTC Bee is very similar but not the same as the Buzz. But that doesn't mean I can't help you
Get one of the Wildfire boot animations or any boot animation that is 240x320. Look in the folders
/system/customize/resource or
/system/media or
/data/local.
Replace it with your boot animation.
Watch it go
Sent from my Wildfire using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
Thanks Giffgaff! You are a ROCKSTAR!!
I was able to root my phone using Z4root
Instead of just changing the boot animation I want to load a new ROM. There are so many ROMs in this site how can I tell if the ROM is the right for my phone? Please note this is a CDMA phone.
Thank you so much Guys!!!

Lol, giffgaff is just the name of my carrier, not actually my username
Unfortunately, this is where the Bee is lacking in - ROMs. As the Buzz is a GSM phone, not CDMA, the ROMs in this phone's Development section will not work on your Bee
The Bee is very similar to the Buzz but as it is CDMA, most ROMs will not work and as there have been no custom recoveries, that makes it even harder to flash ROMs
But you're free to make one if you wish, you'll save the Bee community

I don't know any ROMs personally for the Bee, but a good place to start to make ROMs is Chef Central, here in XDA. You can ask whatever you wish about ROM making - there are quite a good few guides to making them. You can start by extracting a ROM from the HTC Bee RUU. A guide for that is here: I also started off like this!
But first of all, it would be a good idea to start learning the Android slang - this is a good one. Or alternatively, browse any random HTC device and browse the threads, looking for new words. And that thanks was to increase your thanks meter.

You can also theme icons once you get the ROM going by going into /system/framework and decompiling framework-res.apk before replacing the icons. Then, compile it as a system app and replace your existing one. APK Manager is a good tool for compiling and decompiling, and using adb pull to get your framework-res.apk in command prompt. e.g
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk C:\Users\Me\Desktop\ROMcooking
EDIT: If you want to unlock your bootloader, not just root, you can try this:
Here
or you can also try plugging your phone into your computer, typing adb reboot bootloader and try fastboot oem write secureflag 0.
But I don't take responsibility if your phone is damaged
I have Alltel and C Spire RUU. How can I tell this is compatible with my phone? Note I have a Cox branded Wildfire. Thanks!

You should be able to get the current boot.img on your phone by doing the following in adb
'adb shell'
'su'
'dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/sdcard/boot.img'
'exit'
'exit'
'adb pull /sdcard/boot.img C:\Location of your choice'

e1920 - NEW CLONE S3

hello, my name is elia, I recently purchased a samsung s3 clone I unlock (root). I followed several guides, one of whom also taken on this site and none are successful. I can do the whole process, it will restart, but supersu not appear. a model is a bit special e1920_v77_zlh_fwvga with Android 4.1.1 and cpu MT6577. Someone has done it? I already tried with root_with_restore_by_bin4ary_v17 and v25
Thanks

I am glad that I can help someone..
Now, about that partitioning, there is this link; mtk6577gamingrig.blogspot.com/p/how-to-change-your-sd-card-to-phone.html
But I have not tried that partitioning, I rooted my phone just so I could change some things in "build.prop" file, and bootanimation.zip, so that everyone gets the idea that I actually have the original Galaxy S3..
If you succeed in partitioning, leave a comment here.
Also on this blog; mtk6577gamingrig.blogspot.com there are all kind of compatible games for our phone..
Regards,
Boocy.

Hey man, could you please make SP Flash Tool backup of your ROM, and upload it on http://bitupload.com/ for me so I can fix my cellphone??
Only you can do this becouse you have the same model as I do ..
Here is how you can do it; http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.pt/2012/04/creating-rom-dump-of-your-mt65x3-device.html
First you will need ADB drivers installed, and MTKdroidTools, you can find all of the files you need here; http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/91738412/file.html and then start ADB Terminal from MTKdroidTools..
Then enter these commands;
---------------
adb shell
cat /proc/mtd > /sdcard/firmware.info
---------------
Then just continiue tutorial from that link,,, anyway... When you are done, it will be around 650 Mb in size, just zip the folder and upload it on http://bitupload.com/
Please man do me this favour.. my phone is dead with out your help, you know I would do the same for you.. :/

[R&D]Fire Phone Images

Hello everyone.
I'm SafinWasi. I know I'm new to the Fire Phone forums, but I found something big,so I thought that I should post it here.
It seems that unlike the Kindle Fire Tablet series which used a TI OMAP based chipset, the Fire Phone uses a Qualcomm MSM based chipset. That being said,we should now have access to the Fire OS images for modding.
To those who have root:
Please use the following steps to get the boot and recovery images:
Using ES File Explorer, mount system and "/" path as rw- and navigate to /dev/block/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/ and copy "boot" and "recovery" to sdcard.
Please send the two images to me via PM or post it in this thread so that I may open them up for examining.

Thank you once again for getting the ball rolling on this. I had (almost) lost hope!
Absolutely certain root is needed to pull any of the files. I have tried every method possible through ES (e-mail, BT, MMS, copying the file to /sdcard/, etc.)
Another thing I can try is to obtain root on my phone. Someone mentioned towelroot has many different versions floating around, I've only tried the v3 from geohot's site. I'll find some other sources & see if I can't get lucky.

Judging by the 35,000 units sold, and not much interest / activity for this phone on XDA, I doubt anyone's requested it. I sent the following email to Amazon which "escalated" my issue, & also sent the email directly to Jeff Bezos. It's a long shot but let's hope it makes some noise. By AOSP guidelines, they are required to release the device's source code.
The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) has compliance guidelines for companies which produce & distribute devices containing the Android operating system. The recently released Fire Phone operates on the Fire OS, which is a modified version of Android 4.2 "Jelly Bean".
In order to comply with the AOSP guidelines, Amazon is required to release the source code for the Fire Phone device, which it has not.
Please make the source code available for download.
Thank you.

Since the boot loader is locked, I doubt that custom recoveries would be possible, but SafeStrap is definitely a probability.

If anyone knows of a safe place for me to download old versions of towel root I can try to help with pulling the image. AT&T for some reason can't find my phone on their network so it's basically a paperweight and don't mind trying to help with this. If there are other methods I can try to root let me know as well. I can give them a shot when I have some down time.

@SafinWasi and all - I posted the APK in a separate thread in this same sub-forum. In retrospect, I should've just posted in this thread.
EDIT: I believe Towelroot will only work on this phone if you haven't updated to 3.5.1. I'm searching for a way to revert my phone to 3.5 to test this. The Amazon AWS site only has the most recent version available for download.
2ND EDIT: @SafinWasi - I found the old 3.5 OS download link in another thread. The file has a *.bin extension and is 1.12GB. We know through the recovery we can "update via ADB" which will prompt you to adb sideload an update file. I'm thinking I'll try this to get back on 3.5 & towelroot it.
Fire OS 3.5 (thanks to @ONYXis) - https://s3.amazonaws.com/fire-phone-updates/update-fire-phone-121_1.0.1_user_101012120.bin
First of all, I take no credit for these images. I received these from @Dilbert1959 who has confirmed root access using towelroot on Fire OS 3.5. I simply compressed the images to an acceptable file size for XDA.
@SafinWasi - Feel free to move these images to the OP.
