How does one replace the existing systemui.apk file with the new desired one? Each attempt on my own, I end up with force closes, or "not able to install."
Thanks in advance.
Doesn't work like that. To be simple.

I should point out I am on a Mac.
Do I need to sign my new apk or something? Maybe include it in the entire rom to be flashed?
Help pwease...
I managed to include it with my rom and flash it.
Now, Am I able to rename the rom or will that screw something up?

Sure, but this is still development no?

Technically no. Your question pertains to development, but the development section is for releases of Roms, Radios and kernels and such. But to answer your question, you can rename your flashable zip with no problems. Good luck!

I found a thread explaining that you put the bootanimation.zip file in data/local but it did not work with me. I also didn't see the old boot animation in there.
Is there a different way to do it on the Incredible?
It might depend on the ROM, but on the Incredible it's usually locate in the "/system/customize/resource/" folder.

I'm using the stock rom so I'll give that one a try, thanks.
EDIT: And yup, it's there as VZW_bootanimation.zip, thanks.

Awesome, I just realize on SkyRaider Sense it's in /system/media/ so I reckon the location in ROM dependant.
Anyone have a link to the thread that has a list of boot animations?
I saw it a few days ago but now can not find via stickies or search :/

So does this mean that we can copy another boot animation to this folder and just rename it to the name above and that it will use the new animation?
Yep.

Hi can someone who is stock on a yakju 4.2.1 please post their build.prop file? I want to stop the update notifications. 4.1.2 is running absolutely flawlessly for me.
bump
looking for the same...
I'm no expert but can't you just edit yours so it thinks it's updated?
I see this line:
ro.build.version.release=4.2
So if yours says 4.1.2, changing it to 4.2 would make the system think it's updated and you won't get notifications? I have no idea if it works that way though. Don't trust me on that...

No I've done it before and it requires a little bit more than that, there's some more specific editing required so that's why someone's build.prop might be helpful.

Yeah I thought so. I'm on custom rom though so sharing mine would probably be a bad idea.

I like perfectly 4.1.2 but 4.2 is also tempting just to see how the new things are impelmented. From what I've read, I think I will dread this decision, but something wants me to proceed with the update. Should I do, I'll try and post the file, but it might late tomorrow.

just delete /system/etc/updatecmds/Google_generic_update.txt and you don't get update popup and it's safer and better way than build.prop editing to fake 4.2.#

How is that safer? Just asking...because if I delete it and that works and then I decide later to get updates...how would I do that?

Sometimes some apps may FC when build.prop is modified wrong way..
By deleting the file from that folder you don't get update notification.. You can add file back from android 4.1.2 ROM when you want it back..
Or then add mod version and change text from ro.fingerprint= Google to Samsung may work well
There you go.
Hey, does anyone know any mods that enable us to add the Data On/Off toggle. It's really annoying to use widgets for it.
I already tried this method but I get an error while opening "Settings.db":

Sorry if someone already asked this question, I couldn't find an answer.
Thank you

It depends on what rom you are on. Some AOSP roms have that option baked it. I know Slimrom has it, so I would guess that will03's version will have it as well. I believe you can get there through X-posed and/or Gravity Box as well.

Thank you for your reply, I'm currently on stock rom and plan to say on it since it's the most stable from what I've tried . I'm not aware about X-posed or Gravity Box, I'll try to look into them.

That's cuz you have the wrong version of the editor. That was happening to me also. So I just use the editor from the link I have you. Think it's 0.9

Yes sir! I definitely used the link to download and I just tried it again, it shows version 1.4.1 when you go into the download link and the version also shows up as 1.4.1 in application manager. I wasn't able to find any 0.9 apk. I hope this makes sense.
Thanks

To update official software, you need to be on stock software, unrooted, with stock recovery What version of Jelly Bean is your CleanBean ROM based on?DO NOT take any updates while rooted or on custom ROMs.
Yeah don't ever take official OTAs while rooted/on a different rom other than stock. Hell i never even take an ota for the rom that I'm on, i always do things myself to ensure everything works right. Your build.prop needs to be updated to trick the OTA update, check the developer's thread to see if he posted one for you to flash

Please refer to this thread courtesy of CNexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209418
It has all the answers to your questions regarding ota updates (he even made a guide on how to edit your build.prop yourself!)
Be careful when editing your build.prop though, I'm sure CNexus includes this in his guide but just in case, make a copy of it and store it somewhere safe like an external sd or your computer before you edit it. Good luck! Also be sure to hit that "thanks" button, i find myself thanking almost all his posts

I wouldn't be too afraid. Just be as careful as you can be. I believe editing the build.prop is pretty harmless so long as you keep a copy of the original somewhere. You should do it yourself! You'll feel awesome knowing you took another step and got your hands a little dirtier and have 1 less thing to have to depend on someone else for
